Speaker 1 (00:00):
To go to the top topics and the tea came
up a little bit yesterday in the first game.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
How how real was that to you?

Speaker 3 (00:09):
And how how much of passage maybe a function of
solectrician you already had this year and just you know,
all the play I.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Mean, I think you just kind of answered the question. One.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Yeah, they've been on the field a lot in the
last four games, you know there, I think it was
right around eighty eighty snaps on average, you know, give
or take a few plays. That's a lot, you know,
in a row consecutively, in a row to.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Be playing.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Eleven straight games, you know, uh, two weeks in London.
And look, I'm not not making excuses for anything. I'm
just kind of trying to paint a picture. And then
and then you add on top of that, we're not winning.
We're not we're not executing, we're not winning games. So
I think I think all of that from a team perspective,
not just the defense, but a team perspective.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
The guys are the.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Guys retired, the guys are mentally and physically fatigued. This
is a good time to step away and take a
break and recharge.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
For the last six games.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
The margin of defeat yesterday, how much of that was
the function of playing what everybody regards as a really,
really good football team, and how much of it was,
if any at all, your players in any way letting
go of the rope a little bit in the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I don't believe they're letting go of the rope.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
I don't. It is a good football team. They are good,
and they're gonna play for a long time. I think
this year, you know. I mean, that's that's just without
without question in the NFC. I look at it, and
even visiting with guys today and seeing the guys today,

(02:02):
you know.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
They are they're they're tired.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
It's it's been you know, each week, each Monday, you know,
we haven't felt very good. And and that also weighs
on it. You're going into the next week, You're trying
to motivate yourself again, You're trying to get yourself, you know,
pick back up for another game and excuse me. And
that's hard, that's hard emotionally, you know. And and then

(02:31):
like I said, you you you go out, you don't
coach well, you don't play well. Obviously, what result of
you're trying to trying to get At the end of
the day, you are trying to win a game. And
and I see these guys practice and and do the
things during the week and and not be rewarded for

(02:51):
that on on Sundays and and so that also plays
a part, you know in this as well.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Can you confirm the news about Gabe? And then was
anybody else banged up to the point where what was
the news you heard about A Davis? I know, I
want to make sure you asked the question first before
I give any information. See how this works. But does
it look like yes, he is.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
He is going to miss the rest of the season.
It is, it is confirmed to this morning. So gosh,
I I hate it for him. He's battled through some
injury this season and but he was in good spirits
today when I saw him. But he'll he'll miss the
remainder of the year. Everybody else came out, you know, Uh,

(03:38):
Ezra just kind of tweaked his ankle, same one he's
had and he's fine. Walker little came out, had a
little knee tweak in there. He's gonna be okay. Everybody
else is Cisco or Tyson, you know, he came off
kind of holding all the three DB's, Darby, Buster, Tyson,

(03:59):
are all gonna be fine?

Speaker 1 (04:01):
What about Morse?

Speaker 3 (04:02):
You get poked in the young.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Yeah, he got poked in the eye, came out for
a little bit there that actually went back in the
game late, and uh, he'll be He'll be fine.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
So have you said post game that he would evaluate
potential changes to your staff, potential changes at hand? Have
you decided on anything.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
No, still evaluating.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Have you had conversations with Shod that that's your.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Back just after the game.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Are you meeting with Shaw today tonight? Mmmm?

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Well yeah, I mean not yet.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
But I mean, you don't have anything schedule, and there's
something in books further, I wouldn't tell you, But no,
that's uh who who told Shad that this was the
best team ever assembled? I mean, I can't imagine that
him being away from them, that he just decided that
on his own.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
I I don't, I don't know, okay, I I I'm
not privy to the conversations that Shod has or who's
who's he talking?

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, I I just I don't know. I can't answer
that was it you?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
No? Okay?

Speaker 5 (05:10):
I mean it's a lot of play this time of year.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, no, I get it, I get it. I mean, yeah,
we talked. We Yeah, no, we talk a lot.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
I mean we pre pre season, offseason, I mean going
into the season. You got high expectations obviously for your
football team, as you should everybody does, start of uh camp,
start of the regular season, and you know rightfully, so, do.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
You have the authorities to fire Ryan Nielsen yourself or
would you have to get up proved through Trent.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Or shot or both. Nah. I would definitely have a
conversation with with them first if that were the case.
But we're not. We're not. There is there is there any.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Unwritten rule in the NFL about firing coaches in this
like two or eleven firing assistance when it.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Looks like I think you gotta be.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
I think you gotta be really, really careful when you
start pointing fingers at certain people.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
It's a dangerous thing.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
And I'm not gonna do that, not doing it, not
right now, because that's as a head coach in this
league that's going through what we're going through. You're you're
you're pointing a finger, and if it's gonna be pointed,
it needs to be pointed at me.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
To start with me, right, So that's enough on that you.

Speaker 6 (06:34):
Obviously you're gonna get a lot of heat, as you
just mentioned, But what what do you Kelly's fans that
that had such high hopes and they're seeing what they
saw yesterday, just a franchise worst.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
In so many categories.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
I'll say this, and I told the team this today,
and I told to him after the game, that the
team that was out there yesterday that it was not us.
That's not who we are, that's not who we stand for.
There's enough pride in that locker room, enough pride on
the coaching staff to whether we win, you know, whether

(07:12):
we win the game or not. Right, how we performed,
it's not who we are. It's not who we are.
It's not it's not how I coach, it's not how
we prepared during the week. It's not how the players
practice and and what they put their bodies through. I
don't think many people understand what these guys go through
during during the course of a week.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
These guys play, and this is this is across the league.
This is not just us.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
This is everybody who puts a uniform on game days.
They're they're playing through pain, they're playing through injury. They're
playing hurt and sore, and especially this time of the year,
and so my my hat is off to those players
because of what they battle through. And so you know, yeah,

(07:56):
you can. You can criticize me all you want, point
the finger at me. That's fine because it's where it starts.
But you know, for the players, uh, they they put
their best foot forward every single day.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yesterday was not who we are.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
And to Jean's point, I mean this is this is
an exhausted team right now and we need this week
to to get rejuvenated again, get fresh again, get ready
to go for the last you know, six weeks.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Regrets about you?

Speaker 6 (08:26):
You had tough camps last couple of years too, and
sometimes it's worked out. But now as you look back,
do you ever regrets that how hard you guys practice,
how long you practice from camp to.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Em at some of the early stages of the regular season,
and maybe it's caught up team. I don't, I don't.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
I you know, look, I always tell the guys too,
there's there's no substitution for your hard work in preparation.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Right, this is a football this is a football game
of sport.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
It's contact. You gotta put pads on. You got to
do those things to condition your body. The way camp
and the way the schedule and the way the CBA
and way everything is sort of laid out for us.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
To do that once a week, you know, twice a
week at the most when when camp starts. When really
when pads come on, I don't.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
And you got to remember too, we we do mote
the bulk of our hitting before we play a game, right,
and then we do maybe that second week because we
do a joint practice, right, so, and then after that
you're kind of getting ready for week one. So I'm
very conscious of getting the guys ready.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I mean, if you look at that Miami game, we're
flying around, we're fresh, we're you know, our guys were
in great shape, right.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
So that's the goal coming out of camp is being
in that position now as the season goes, right, the
bodies were down, where's on the mind. Losing obviously doesn't
help that, right it Actually I guess it. I guess
it does kind of help that, right.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
I Mean, it just kind of.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Fans the flame a little bit, and it and it's hard,
it's hard to to each week pick yourself back up
when when you're defeated, and it's.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I think it's a uh again, a credit to the
players for.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Rolling up their sleeves each week, going to work, getting
ready to play another football game, putting their bodies on
the line one more time, right, you know, uh, for themselves,
for their families, for the fans, in order to win
a game.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Following up on that, what about London. I know you
won some games coming out of London last year, so
maybe that eventure catches up to you this year. Obviously,
four game Street after four games in the Street, after London,
is there any think there's any correlations at disappointed worts.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
To I think it's something we need to take a
look at where the buy is, you know, ten days
over there.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
I know we always go early in the season, so
having to buy early in the years, I don't necessarily
like that as much, but I think we need to
take a look at where it is, you know, and
the timing of it as we move forward.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Always the guys loose tomorrow or today.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
No, my plan was to bring him in tomorrow and
we're still We're just still getting together tomorrow in the morning.
We got a couple of things we got to take
care of, sort of business side. But other than that,
my plan was to get him in here and do
a little work tomorrow as well. But I think where
we are, the best thing is just cut them loose,
let them, let them start getting healthy, let them get fresh,

(11:43):
get away, get away from me. I'll get away from them,
you know type thing, and enjoy the week. You guys
even watch we did this morning and again to that point,
if if I'm not and I and I shared with this,
you know this morning, if if I don't keep my

(12:05):
foot on the gas with these guys, then and it's
almost like you are pulling the plug on the on
the season. And so I'm not gonna do that for
these players. I'm gonna keep pushing them. I'm gonna keep
showing them. I'm gonna show them the good, I'm gonna
show them the bad. We have to get through these games,
you know, we gotta watch the tape and in in

(12:26):
order to in order to get better.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
And so I think it's important to do that, and
that's why we did it today.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
That is up for.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
Potential change that you're evaluating right now.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Gosh, I really wish everything's but let's just put this way.
Everything's on the table. Let's leave it at that. A
lot of times after those tough losses, you talked about
wanting to get back out of the field to get
the bad taste, talking about lives.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
It's time different cause I think it's a reset. This
is a reset.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
If we're nine and two, I'd be like, no, let's
not have a break, Let's keep rolling. I think you
know what I'm saying. But the where we are and
and you know, still six games to go, I think
it's time to to just hit the reset button and
and just sort of rewind, you know, kind of get
get like I said, get fresh again. Coaches and players

(13:26):
and the coaches need and this is what I challenge
them to this week. This week, we got to go
back and we gotta look at everything right from a
schematic standpoint, player standpoint, personnel standpoint.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
All that kind of stuff. This week.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
And and you know, if we're if we come out
of this buy and we just kind of keep doing
the same things and trying to expect different results, it's
it's probably not gonna happen, right, So we gotta do
some little little things, some minor things.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
We'll do it. And that's what we're gonna spend these
next couple of days doing do you.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
Look at it and make changes to things even if
you don't they're broken, just to try and.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
See if that can.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
If it's not broke, don't fix it, right, I mean
that that just goes without saying, you know, if if
if something's working, let's let's figure out how to keep
doing that right and and but if it's something we
like and we need to tweak it, we'll tweak it.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
But if it's if it's working, I'm not gonna fix it.
No need to.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Yeah, I uh, let's just say there are things that
that are that are we need to coach some things
a little bit better, see things, anticipate them.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
There's some there's there, there's there's there's some good on
the film. There's That's the thing about it too. I think.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Sometimes people are so fixated. I think on the final result,
which is listen, it's it's the it's the number one thing.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
I got it. Okay, it's a win or it's a loss,
end of the day, got it.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
But it's how did we get there? What did we
do in between? From snap the whistle? And there are
some really good things. There's there's some physicality things. There's
some you know, some provement in the secondary b T
obviously is a bright spot. I mean, there's there's some
things out there that, you know, Brent and strange, there's
some things out there that that that leads you to

(15:48):
believe that we got to continue going down that path
and and and sort of find ways to, you know,
either get the ball to one m or at least
give 'em opportunities and during the game.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Okay, thanks coach,
