Hello, Hello, Chelsea, thanks for having me on.

Speaker 6 (01:58):
Oh, thank you so much for joining me and looking
forward to this.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
I absolutely love your albums and we're gonna talk about that. Okay, Yes, ma'am,
I'm looking forward to Thank you perfect anytime. So first off,
a question that I love to start off with because
I know everyone's story and journey is different.

Speaker 6 (02:14):
So how did music come into your life?

Speaker 5 (02:16):
When did you realize that this was something that you
could do and that you wanted to do well.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I didn't really have very many you know, music folks
on our family, but I started singing in children's schoir
at church when I was a little.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Boy, and I didn't like it at all, you.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Know, I was probably five or six or seven, you know,
all along in there. But my mom made me do it,
and eventually I kind of decided that I liked it
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
And then a guy named.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Dan Roberts, who's a song rather than Nashville, who had
written a bunch of hit songs, has written songs for
Garth Brooks like beaches are Cheyenne and everything else. He
moved to Texas, where I'm from, and I met his
son at school and we can best friends. So that's
how I got turned on to guitar playing and songwriting.

(03:04):
And once I figured out that that was the thing,
I was just obsessed.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
It's always I always hear that there's that one person
that is like an inspiration, you know what I mean,
that kind of catapults you into like, oh okay, I
can do this.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
It takes that, I think it really, there really is
something to that because and I want to be that
for other people too if I can be, you know,
like when I meet kids in my hometown or wherever
who are young folks who are starting to play, I
always try to encourage them because yeah, you know, there's
so many things in life that you don't even think

(03:39):
about being a possibility until you see and meet somebody
who does it.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
And that's true from a lot of things.

Speaker 6 (03:47):
Oh yes, absolutely, even.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
What you're doing, you know, like doing shows and most
of the people I'm eie working TV or radio, they
all have the same type of story.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
There's one person who turned them on.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
It's so true, it really is, and you know, I
just think it's so great how you also yourself like
to give back in that same way to others that
are up and coming and you know, wanting to also
you know, do what you are doing and you have.
So I have to talk about this because I'm so
excited about this. I absolutely love all the songs on
both albums. So you have a two part album title, Yes,

(04:23):
Honk is the Tonkers. You have Acts one and Act two.
So first off, how did a two parter come about?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I love this idea, well, a lot of the you know,
I guess originally I thought about like a double album.
And the idea behind that is, you know, back in
the day when people actually still bought CDs and records
and we're limited by the for man, sometimes artists would
have to release double albums because they had a lot
of songs on them, for sure. And I thought, well,

(04:51):
I'll just do like a I'll call it a double album,
you know, but it's just one. It's just all digital.
But then I'll start thinking about it and talking to
my friends Christy from Aristo Media, and she's a great publicist.
She said, well, what if you released you know, part
one and then Part two a couple of months later,
and that's why I decided to do And I think

(05:12):
that was a good choice because it's a I think
there's about twenty songs between the two albums, and you know,
it's a lot to ask people to listen to twenty
songs on one album. So I thought maybe if I
broke it up, you made a little more time to
promote it and things like that.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
Oh yeah, it was a great idea, It really was.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
And both of these albums showcased such an authenticity to
your songwriting music, which I'm absolutely positive is the reason
why people are gravitating towards you and your music.

Speaker 6 (05:39):
And it's just honest and relatable.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
I mean, those are two factors that I'm sure that
going into this project you wanted to put out there, right.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Well, thanks, yeah, I think you know my songwriting and
the songs that I like to write, I think that's
a common theme, you know.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
I was trying to be genuine and.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
I don't know, you know, I think I think a
lot of a lot of artists say that, and I
think most of us mean it, but I don't know,
you know, I just start to write about what's happening
in my life. That's how I keep it genuine or
what I see. You know, every song I write is
necessarily autobiographical, but if it's not, it's usually about somebody

(06:21):
who I know who went through something.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
So if you just write about the things that are
around you, and I think that's a big part of
what you know, makes things relatable and not trying to
think too much about what's popular or you know, what's
going to be on the radio, because I'm sure, you know,
I'm sure there's a benefit of thinking of that too,
but they can start getting in your head and then.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
It interrupts the authenticity.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
It does, it really does, and you do you keep
it there, and it's a great balance because people also
are able to relate to a lot of those same
experiences that you that you share about.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
You know.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
So I think that is just an incredible, incredible gift
that you give as a songwriter. And it's a mix
of fan favorite singles and then also new originals, which
I think is really cool.

Speaker 6 (07:14):
Yes, So some of.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Them I had already released as singles and I was like,
you know, and some of them I have a song
on Yellowstone Season three of Yellowstone, and so I put
out quite a few songs after that because I really
didn't have any clue what I was doing. I just
had that awesome opportunity and I was like, oh my gosh,
now I'm a legitimate musician. Now I'm gonna start releasing music.

(07:39):
And I just kind of wanted to compile everything into
one place because on the streaming services and stuff, sometimes
it's hard to find singles if they're not one of
your top four or five songs. People really got to
dig through your profile on there to find them, and
I thought this would make it a little bit easier.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
Yes, it does, you know, And let's you know, start
at act one. So tell us about this album and
what listeners can expect when they listen to this one,
because you have such great songs on on this one.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
So tell us a little bit about this one.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
I really appreciate it. I think, you know, my favorite
song on that record is probably watching You Burn. That
was actually the first single we released off of it,
and I wrote that song with a couple of my
really good friends here in Nashville, and it's definitely, you know,
personal about kind of something I was going through at
the time, and it gets close to home, and I've
just gotten such a great feedback from that. And then

(08:35):
there's no song on there called do You. That is
one of my personal favorites, probably any song I've ever wrote.
For some reason, that's one song that I actually enjoy
listening to. Usually I don't like listening to my own music.
Of course, right when you first finish it, it's fun
to listen to it, and you listen to it all day,
and then you can get tired of.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
It, you don't listen to it anymore.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
But those two songs are like songs I actually i'm
listening to. You know, Dave Smith, this guy who produced
those here in Nashville, and he had such a great
job on him and I just really appreciate his help
on that, And and a lot of the songs on
Part two, some of them are recorded in Nashville and

(09:19):
some of them are in Texas. Most of the ones
on I'd say most of the songs on Part one
are from Nashville, and then kind of the opposite for
Part two, but there's a little from each on each album.

Speaker 6 (09:33):
Yes, I love that.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
So you you start in Tennessee, but you came back home,
That's right. Yes, I love I love, I love that
And like I said, both albums are just incredible.

Speaker 6 (09:45):
Is there a song off of Let's start with Part one?

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Is there a song off of this album that fans
have really been connecting to when you're performing live, like
that go to song that everyone is like really wanting.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
I think I would say watching You Burn people have
really I really like that and it's a ballad, which
kind of surprises me. Sure, but you know, usually it
seems like people you expect people to want the toe
tappers and they have tempo songs. But I had a
lot of people ask me to play that one, and
I think it might be the the best received out

(10:18):
of any of.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
The songs I'll put out on Part one.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Oh, absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
There's a lyric video for that one out too, everybody,
So if you wanted, yeah, yes, I'm yeah, yeah, I'm listening.
I'm a sing along type of girl, so I love
when there's some lyrics.

Speaker 6 (10:33):
That you can sing.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
That's awesome. I like watching lyric videos too, I do
that all the time.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
Yes, Oh for sure, Oh, for for sure. And then
of course Act too. Now a song in Act two
which you already hit on it a little bit, but
I'm sure it's familiar to many of our listeners. So
that is this way of Life, which was featured on
the hit TV series Yellowstone, And this was actually your
breakout single, and boy did it make and leave an impact.
But you record a new radio version of this song

(11:01):
that's on this album.

Speaker 6 (11:02):
So I love it.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
I sure did, I uh. And it's kind of a
funny story behind that.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
So I ended up getting that song on Yellowstone and
it was a complete blessing from the Lord because I
was when I was living back in Weatherford before I
moved to Nashville, and I was working back there. He
had a tree business, I did treework, and Taylor Sheridan
to go create Yellowstone moved to Weatherford and ended up
hiring me to do a bunch of work for it,

(11:28):
and we became friends. And this was actually like this
was before Yellowstone was such a huge deal and it
just started season one, so it was like still really
underground compared to what it is now. But we became
pretty good friends. And I ended up having a song
on that show. And in the song it cuses it
says the S word SJA, and I didn't think of

(11:52):
anything of it. Well, The day after my song was
on the show, I got a call from a lady
at itens and she was saying to tell me that
my song, I don't know, has you got my number?
That my song was charting, and the ites charred and
they need but they wanted to know if I had

(12:12):
a version that didn't have a cuss word in it,
and I was like, oh, no, I don't, so that's
kind of the idea behind that. And then of course
radio people have asked me, hey, do you have a
version that you know is clean?

Speaker 3 (12:24):
So I made one for him.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Right, that's that's wonderful. I love it.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Both versions are amazing, but I love that you also
were able to kind of make it a little bit
so it's more radio ready, I should say, you know,
more radio friendly, Yes, kid friendly, you know, right right,
exactly exactly.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Of course, way most of these kids talk nowadays, they
could probably teach me a few cuss words.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
And they probably could, honestly, and I can date it's true.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
Oh that is too funny, but it really is, you know,
such a great song. And it was like the most
shazam country song in the US the day after airing.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
Which is it was incredible insane.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Yes, And I actually I wrote that song on So
I wrote the song on like a Monday and sent
it to Taylor the next day in an acoustic demo,
which is what they used on the show.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Sure, and they used it on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
So from the time I wrote the song to the
time I was on Yellowstone was less than a week.
So that six days or whatever was the craziest experience
of my life.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
It was just so cool, you.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Know, right what whirlwind I mean, you know, a moment
of time that you will definitely not forget. I mean
you you you know, created this song. It went on
and then instantly people were really gravitating towards it and
people were loving it.

Speaker 6 (13:47):
I mean, what a whirlwinds experience, you.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Know it was. It was really cool.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I mean it was and it just goes to show you, like,
it's really encouraging for me because so you know, things
like that can happen, and just opportunities will come along.
Like people ask me sometimes how do I get a
song on Yellowstone? And sometimes I go for out them.
I'm like, well, you need to start a tree business
and went the third and then you know it, but yeah,

(14:16):
that's all you got to do.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
But the.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Thing is, it's like, I guess, the way I think
about it is like, you know, regardless of what you're doing,
there's so many opportunities that come along, and I've squandered
a lot of opportunities.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
In my life. But you know, finally one came along
when I was ready.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
And now I think the thing is just like trying
to make sure I'm ready for whatever, you know, whatever the.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
Next one is, right, it always comes when you're ready,
and I think that was the perfect time.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
And what a cool thing to say. You know that.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
You you're part of the Yellowstone legacy.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
Really, I mean, you've had a song it is I'm that.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
I mean, it's just an incredible, incredible thing, and I'm
just so excited to see what is next for you,
and you know, with this way of Life, which of
course is in part two of the album. One of
the songs are on this album for those that may
not have heard it yet, The.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Title track, Honkey is the Tonkers, is one of my
favorites and it is one that I had already released
and I wanted it to be the title track, so
I put it on the album, and a lot of
people had not heard it because it's just kind of
slipped between the cracks when I released it, and at
that time, I didn't really know what I was doing,
you know, I just kind of uploaded song. Even with

(15:29):
the yellow the Yellowston sound was great because they put
it on the biggest TV show on America.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
I didn't have a clue what I was doing.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
As far as promoting it, provacing the most of the opportunities.
So I think Hanky's the Tonkers is probably one that
I think people will really enjoyed.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
And there's also one on there called fifty in the.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Fast Lane that's very oldo biographical. It's one of my favorites.
And then there's a song called Firefly I wrote about
a conversation I had with my grandfather, which I've got
really good response to that from certain people. It's always
interesting to see, you know, which people like which songs,

(16:12):
Which are my friends, or which of the people who
I know gravitate more towards the different songs.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
Right right, It's pretty neat to kind of see who
is appreciating what, like, what is going with you know,
I think that is I think that's pretty cool that
you're able to kind of see and it's Like I said,
both albums are in CREBIS, so I hope everyone goes
and checks out Honkyst the Tnkers Part one, Part two
both available now everywhere you can find music today, right,
so you could just check them all out, check.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
Out all this, Yeah, so please please do. And are
there any thoughts.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
I'm a very visual person, so any thoughts on maybe
a music video for any of these songs off the albums?
Was that even anything that, when on the table, is
an option?

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Do you? If there's the song on part one, do
you We filmed a video for it and it's still
being worked on.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
I wish it was already done.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
We kind of had a few hiccups and had to
reshoot some stuff, so I'm hoping that that'll be done
sometime in the next month or so. It'd be good
to have some video stuff for this album.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
Yes, Oh, I'm looking forward to that. You just made
my day. I am really looking forward to that one.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
And yeah, and I'm going to be sharing it on
all of our socials as well once that comes out,
and then of course the albums will be promoting it everywhere.
And I hope everybody checks it out and you know
where can our listeners also find you on social media
so they can find out what is next and what
is on the plans for you coming up.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Sure, so I always encourage people if they want to
figure out where.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I'm playing and everything.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Usually Instagram is best Garrett Bradford Music with two rs
and two teas, and then I also have TikTok Scared
Bradford t X and a lot of times I put
new songs up on TikTok.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
And test them out.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
So I always and I always love it when people
message me, you know, so if anybody wax One music,
make sure and show me a message on Instagram and
let me know where you're listening from.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
That always makes my day.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Yes, everyone, please do, please do, And I know that
you will just fall in love with Gara and his music,
so please make sure you do and support and share
with the friends, share with family member and I have
some fun questions for you before we go.

Speaker 6 (18:26):
Are you ready?

Speaker 3 (18:28):
I'm so ready?

Speaker 6 (18:29):
All right?

Speaker 5 (18:30):
So, while performing I love to ask this question because,
as as humans, things happen. So while you were performing live,
have you ever had any embarrassing on stage moment or
something that just didn't go?

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Yeah, you're talking to the King of embarrassing moments, So
kind of the funniest thing is one time.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
I was not long out of high school.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
It was you know, when I really first started getting
out and playing with the band. I was up playing
and this girl was in the kind of standing. It
wasn't like there's a bunch of people packed up in
the front. You know, this is just like a little
bar in Texas. And this girl is kind of sitting
at a table in the front. And I saw him looking.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
At me and kind of laughing. And now I got
on with the song and.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
She goes, hey, just so you know, your pants are celebs.

Speaker 6 (19:22):
Listen wardrobe man functions.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
I've heard it all friends, listen all about how you recover.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
That's right. I just laughed at it all.

Speaker 6 (19:32):
That's all I can do, exactly, That's all you can do.
Oh that is two fight. Listen that it happens when
you're live, you are at the mercy of the audience.
And that just kind of that right.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
Yes, yes, And for people who may not know about you,
what is something that you love to do some hobbies
when you're not working on music.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Oh, I really love I love to hunt fish. Those
are pretty common things kind of a more unique thing.
I like to arrowhead hunt. I love to go try
to find the arrowheads. I've got a huge collection of airheads.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
So oh cool. Now I'm the different.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Native artifacts back at the at the ranch in Texas.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
That's one of my favorite things to do. I just
I love that.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
And I love to read too. I really like history
a lot of like military history. I was never in
the military or anything, but I've always been fascinated with
military history, wars, and I've got a crazy book collection
which I've I've not even read them all.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
I always joke and say, you know.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
You'd think I was really well read if you saw
my bookshelf, but unfortunately I buy them and don't always
read them. Yeah, it makes us a little smart though, right,
because listen, check out the collection.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
That's right.

Speaker 6 (20:48):
That's right. Oh that's too funny. I love that. See
that's things we cannot find on Google.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
See, no, can't find that anywhere else right here, exactly exactly.
And then the last question, which I'm sure is probably
the craziest question you've ever had on.

Speaker 6 (21:01):
An interview, but it's all right. I like being different.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
I wanted to ask you if there is any animal
in the wild or or not?

Speaker 6 (21:10):
What do you think best personality wise?

Speaker 5 (21:12):
What animal best personality wise suits you do you feel ooh.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Hmmm, I think I would be a raccoon. I can survive.
I could survive anywhere. Yeah, I could survive.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
In the city, but I prefer to be out in
the country, that's right. And I like digging around in
the trash and taking maps, So maybe that's me.

Speaker 5 (21:36):
I love how you were ready to really think You're like,
I got your question, don't mess with me.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
That's right.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
Prepared. I love it.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
Thank you so much, Garrett. This was such a blast,
and I hope you come back on anytime.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
I would love to Thank you so much, Chelsea, and
we'll we'll stay in touch.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Thanks bringing me on of course.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
Everyone, please make sure you check out Honky is the
Tnkers right now Part one and part two everywhere.

Speaker 6 (22:05):

I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
