really takes to successfullytransition into motherhood.
So join me.
Here to discover things likewhat to expect in childbirth,
(00:27):
how to prepare for your birth.
We'll also talk aboutbreastfeeding and so much more.
I'm so grateful to share it allwith you right here on Oh Baby,
the podcast created for pregnantmoms preparing for their first
hospital birth.
Let's get started.
If you've ever had that gutfeeling like this whole birth
(00:50):
thing doesn't feel as supportiveor as personal as it should,
you're not wrong.
There are some big lies.
The birth industry keeps feedingfirst time moms, and today I'm
gonna tell you three of thebiggest ones.
The same lies that are keepingyou overwhelmed, anxious, and
(01:11):
stuck on the hamster wheel ofGoogle and TikTok.
But I'm not just calling themout.
I'm gonna show you exactly whatyou need to know so that you can
get off the fear train and intoyour power.
Okay, let's start with lienumber one.
Just trust the doctor.
They'll handle it.
(01:33):
Ugh, y'all.
Let's talk about this one.
Of course, your doctor isimportant.
Of course, your care providerhas medical training, but here's
the truth.
Birth is a team sport, not asolo performance.
In fact, research shows thatmoms who actively participate in
(01:55):
their birth decisions actuallyreport higher satisfaction,
lower rates of intervention, anda better postpartum recovery.
So what happens when you justtrust the doctor?
Well, you're less likely tospeak up when something doesn't
feel right.
You're more likely to justaccept unnecessary interventions
(02:19):
and you miss the chance to builda birth experience that actually
reflects your values, not just ahospital policy.
And if you've ever had thatlittle voice in your head
saying, wait, is this normal orShould I ask about this?
Baby, that's your instinct.
(02:40):
And around here, instinct isgold.
We don't ignore it.
We actually honor it.
You deserve more than a medicalevent.
You deserve a birth experience.
All right, now let's talk aboutlie number two.
Pain is just part of the deal.
There's nothing you can do aboutit.
(03:02):
Let me guess.
You've heard someone say birthis painful.
That's just how it is.
And while yes, labor comes withintense sensations, this idea
that you just have to sufferthrough it, well, that's a
straight up lie.
Here is the truth.
You absolutely can prepare yourbody and mind for the sensations
(03:25):
of labor.
There are proven ways to reducepain naturally.
Things like movement, breathing, hydrotherapy, massage, counter
pressure, and even mindset work.
When you understand what'shappening in your body, it's way
less scary and way moremanageable.
(03:47):
As a matter of fact, whenlaboring moms are supported with
continuous care like a doula oranother informed partner,
they're actually more likely tohave shorter labors and less
pain medication.
So no pain isn't just part ofthe deal.
Discomfort with purpose, yes.
(04:11):
Suffering in silence.
Uh, absolutely not.
and if anyone's ever told you, just get the epidural as if
that's your only option, girl, they've only seen one version of
birth.
now let's move on to lie numberthree.
Breastfeeding will comenaturally.
This one.
(04:33):
Whew.
Y'all.
This one hurts because it setsso many moms up to feel like
they're failing on day one.
Just put the baby to breast.
They don't know what to do.
It's natural, so it'll justwork.
Sound familiar.
But here's what they're nottelling you.
(04:53):
60 to 80% of moms reportstruggling with breastfeeding in
the first week.
And most hospitals don't giveyou enough one-on-one lactation
help.
Not to mention a natural processdoesn't mean an automatic one.
Breastfeeding is a skill.
Say it with me.
Breastfeeding is a skill justlike riding a bike and both you
(05:18):
and your baby are actuallylearning together.
what will actually help you islearning about latch before
birth.
Understanding what a good feedlooks like and what it doesn't,
and knowing how to get helpearly before you feel like
giving up.
You are not broken.
If breastfeeding doesn't clickright away.
(05:41):
Now, let me rewind that and sayit again.
You are not broken.
If breastfeeding doesn't clickright away, you're just under
supported.
That's why I teach it beforebirth so that you're not caught
off guard.
So let's recap those lies realquick.
Number one, just trust thedoctor.
(06:03):
No, you absolutely must trustyour intuition and get informed.
Lie number two, pain is justpart of the deal.
Listen, there's so much that youcan do to manage it.
You don't have to just let ithappen to you.
And the third lie, breastfeedingis natural.
(06:24):
It is natural, but it is notautomatic.
It's a learned skill and you canlearn it.
if you've ever felt likesomething is off or you've been
told, just go with the flow.
If you've ever felt like no oneis really preparing you, you're
not crazy, you're just waking upto the truth and that mama.
(06:47):
That's your first big win Nowthat you know what's not true,
let's talk about what does work.
In the next video, I'm breakingdown my birth blueprint.
This is the exact formula that Iuse to help all my moms go from
scared and confused, to groundedand ready.
(07:08):
And it works even if you'venever done this before.
So if you're ready for real prepand not fear-based pressure, I
want you to go watch it now.
You're gonna feel so much reliefonce you see what's possible.
