(00:05):
Hi, I'm Stephanie Poole, founderand CEO of Birth Prep Academy.
I'm on a mission to helppregnant moms prepare for their
first hospital birth.
I'm sharing revealingconversations about what it
really takes to successfullytransition into motherhood.
So join me.
We're here to discover thingslike what to expect in

(00:26):
childbirth, how to prepare foryour birth.
We'll also talk aboutbreastfeeding and so much more.
I'm so grateful to share it allwith you right here on Oh, Baby,
the podcast created for pregnantmoms, preparing for their first
hospital birth.
Let's get started.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (00:46):
Okay, real talk, so many moms want to
breastfeed, but their milksupply never fully comes in, or
it drops off way too soon.
And I hate to say this, but alot of the times, it's not
because their body has failedthem, it's because they were set
up for failure right from thestart.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (01:08):
today, I'm going to share three huge
mistakes that can destroy yourmilk supply before you even get
started breastfeeding.
These mistakes are sneakybecause they don't just affect
your supply today.
They can actually mess things upfor weeks to come, making it
harder and harder to recover.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (01:30):
And listen, if you don't know about
mistake number three, it couldliterally make or break your
entire breastfeeding journey.
So stay with me because by theend of this video, you'll know
exactly what not to do so youcan start off strong.
All right.
Mistake number one is a big onewaiting too long.

(01:53):
to start breastfeeding.
And this happens all the time.
Not because moms don't want tobreastfeed, But because they
don't really realize howcritical those first few hours
really are.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (02:05):
Here's the deal.
Your baby is born with a naturalinstinct to latch, but that
instinct fades fast.
If you wait too long to nurse, your baby might get sleepy or
fussy or even too frustrated tolatch properly.
And guess what happens next?
Low milk supply.

(02:25):
Because the first few feedssends a signal to your body that
says, Hey, we need milk.
Let's get this production going.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (02:33):
So what can you do?
Great question.
Make sure your baby gets skin toskin time ASAP after birth and
nurse within the first hour ifpossible.
This is called the golden hourand it's one of the best things
that you can do for your milksupply.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 A (02:52):
Now, if that mistake wasn't sneaky
enough, mistake number two iseven worse because it actually
tricks moms into thinkingthey're doing the right thing
when in reality it's destroyingtheir supply.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (03:06):
So, let's get into it.
Because this one is a gamechanger.
Your baby is not eating on aschedule just yet.
They need to nurse on demand.
Which means feeding themwhenever they are showing hunger
cues.
Even if it feels like they justate.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 A (03:26):
But, here's where so many moms go
wrong.
They hear from well meaningfamily members or even hospital
staff that they should wait acertain number of hours before
feeds.
and that is a recipe fordisaster.
As a matter of fact, let me knowin the comments, have you ever
heard that thing about babiesshould only eat every three

(03:48):
hours or so?
If you've heard this, you arenot alone.

Microphone (TONOR TC-7 (03:53):
Instead, what you actually need to do is
nurse at least 8 to 12 timesevery 24 hours in those early
days.
And yes, that includes wakingyour baby up if they're sleeping
too long.
Because here's the thing, themore your baby nurses, the more
milk your body will make.

(04:13):
It's literally a supply anddemand system.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (04:16):
So, now let's talk about the biggest
mistake that tanks milk supplyfast.
this one happens to so many momsthat had every intention of
exclusively breastfeeding, butended up unintentionally
lowering their milk supply.

Microphone (TONOR TC-77 (04:34):
Listen, there's nothing wrong with
supplementing if that's theright choice for your family.
But here's where things gosideways, moms are often
pressured into giving formulaearly on before their milk
supply is fully established.
And when that happens, it candrastically lower their supply
before they can even get achance to make enough milk.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Audi (04:58):
I see this all the time.
Moms are told that their babyneeds more milk in the hospital,
right?
So then they give a bottle offormula, and then another, and
another.
But here's the part no one tellsthem.
Every time your baby drinksformula instead of
breastfeeding, your body getsthe message that it doesn't need

(05:21):
to make as much milk.
And just like that, your supplystarts to drop.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (05:27):
So if you ever need to supplement,
that's fine, just make sure thatyou're also stimulating your
milk supply either by nursingfirst or using a pump.
This helps the demand to stayhigh so that your body continues
to make enough milk.

Microphone (TONOR TC-777 A (05:45):
Now, knowing these mistakes is huge,
but what if I told you thatthere are easy, natural ways to
actually increase your milksupply fast?
That's exactly what we're goingto talk about in the next video,
so click on that now and I'llsee you there.
And if this video helped you, give it a thumbs up so more moms

(06:08):
can avoid these mistakes.
But for now, go watch that nextvideo so you can learn how to
naturally boost your milksupply.
See you there!
