really takes to successfullytransition into motherhood.
So join me.
We're here to discover thingslike what to expect in
(00:26):
childbirth, how to prepare foryour birth.
We'll also talk aboutbreastfeeding and so much more.
I'm so grateful to share it allwith you right here on Oh, Baby,
the podcast created for pregnantmoms, preparing for their first
hospital birth.
Let's get started.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (00:46):
Okay,
tell me if this sounds familiar.
You're excited to breastfeed, but deep down, you're worried.
You start to think about allthese different questions
swirling around in your head.
Things like, what if it hurts?
Or, what if I don't make enoughmilk?
And how about, what if my babyjust won't latch?
(01:07):
Listen, I get it.
Breastfeeding is supposed tocome naturally, right?
But then you start to hear allof the horror stories about
cracked nipples, and babies whojust won't Then you start
wondering, can I even do this?
Well, today I'm going to tellyou why breastfeeding feels so
(01:28):
hard for most moms and how youcan breastfeed easier because
listen, here's the truth.
It's not just about luck orinstinct.
It's actually about skill.
There are real reasons why momsstruggle with breastfeeding and
I'm going to break them down foryou today so that you don't
(01:50):
struggle with those samechallenges.
Sound good?
Let's dive in.
Microphone (TONOR TC-7 (01:55):
Alright,
the first thing I need you to
know is that breastfeeding is alearned skill.
It's not like the movies wherethe baby magically latches and
everything's perfect.
It takes practice, it takespatience, and the right
information.
But here's the problem, mostmoms are not given the right
(02:17):
information.
In fact, They're set up to failbefore they even start.
and the biggest reason for that,Most pregnant women are given
these three huge lies aboutbreastfeeding.
And for those that actuallybelieve these lies, they're more
likely to struggle than tosucceed, possibly even giving
(02:39):
up.
So let's break this downstarting with the first one.
Lie number one, your body willjust know what to do.
Nope, your body is incredible.
But breastfeeding is a learnedprocess for both you and your
baby.
Just like walking, talking, oreven riding a bike.
(03:01):
No one is born knowing how to dothose things.
That's why babies are constantlylearning how to latch and
eventually they get good at it.
Now, while babies are practicinghow to get that good latch, moms
are practicing the rightposition until they get good at
(03:21):
that.
So if breastfeeding doesn't feeleasy at first, that's totally
normal.
That doesn't mean that you'refailing.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 A (03:30):
Now,
here's where it gets really
interesting.
There's one thing that can makethis learning process a lot
easier, and most moms have noidea it even exists.
But I'll get to that in just asecond.
First, let's tackle the secondbig lie.
Lie number two.
(03:50):
If you're struggling, you justneed to tough it out.
Ugh, this one here makes me somad.
So many moms are told that painis just part of the process.
But let me be clear, breastfeeding should not be
painful.
Let me say that again.
Breastfeeding should not bepainful.
(04:13):
If it is, then that signals tome as a lactation consultant
that there's something off.
Maybe it's the latch.
Maybe it's the positioning or itcould even be an undiagnosed
tongue tie, The good news isthat there are fixes for all of
these.
So just know that you do nothave to simply just push through
(04:36):
it.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (04:37):
And
then there's the biggest lie of
all the one that makes momssecond guess themselves and quit
way too soon.
Lie number three.
If your baby cries a lot, itmeans that you're not making
enough milk.
Now this one is heartbreaking.
Because so many moms areconvinced they're not producing
(04:58):
enough.
But guess what?
Most moms are making more thanenough milk.
Babies cry for a lot of reasons, things like gas, tiredness, and
growth spurts.
And in my experience, about 80percent of the time, milk supply
isn't the issue at all.
But when moms don't know this, they start supplementing, their
(05:20):
supply drops, And suddenly theyfeel like they failed at
breastfeeding.
When really, they just neededthe right information and
guidance from the start.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (05:29):
so
if believing these lies sets
first time moms up for failure, then what exactly makes
breastfeeding easier?
Well, let me tell you.
Are you ready?
Get your pen out.
Here's the secret.
The moms who have the bestbreastfeeding experience all
have one thing in common.
(05:51):
They went in with a plan.
They know what to expect.
They know how to troubleshoot.
And they know exactly what to doif things get hard.
Now, if you're here, that meansthat you're pregnant, that you
are interested in breastfeeding, and that you also want to have a
positive breastfeedingexperience.
