really takes to successfullytransition into motherhood.
So join me.
We're here to discover thingslike what to expect in
(00:26):
childbirth, how to prepare foryour birth.
We'll also talk aboutbreastfeeding and so much more.
I'm so grateful to share it allwith you right here on Oh, Baby,
the podcast created for pregnantmoms, preparing for their first
hospital birth.
Let's get started.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (00:46):
So
in this video, we're going to
break it all down, how milksupply actually works, what's
normal and the biggest reasonswhy so many moms think they're
not making enough milk whenactually they are, Plus, I'll
tell you exactly what to do toset your supply up for success
(01:07):
before your baby is even born.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (01:10):
And
stick with me because at the end
of this video, I'll share one ofthe best ways to know if your
baby is getting enough milkwithout second guessing yourself
every five minutes.
So let's get into it.
All
right, first things first, your
body is literally designed tomake milk for your baby.
(01:30):
This process starts before youeven give birth.
I know it's crazy, right?
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (01:36):
Here's
the thing, your milk is already
here, right now, yes, whileyou're still pregnant.
Your body is already producingcolostrum.
that's the super concentratednutrient rich milk that your
baby will get in the first fewdays after birth.
As soon as your baby is born, your body kicks into full milk
(02:00):
making mode.
Here's
how it works.
After birth, your body stopsmaking pregnancy hormones and
starts releasing what's calledprolactin.
That's the hormone that tellsyour breast, okay, it's go time.
Then, within a few days, yourmilk transitions from colostrum
(02:21):
to mature milk.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (02:22):
So
if your body is literally built
to make milk, then why do somany moms worry that they don't
have enough?
Well, that brings me to thefirst big misconception about
milk supply.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (02:36):
One
of the biggest mistakes new moms
make is expecting to see fullbottles of milk right away.
But here's the thing, breastfeeding is not the same as
pumping.
As a matter of fact, your babyis way more efficient at getting
milk than any pump.
And in the first few days, theirstomach is tiny, like cherry
(02:58):
sized tiny.
They don't need huge amounts ofmilk.
They need frequent feeds.
Transcripts
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (03:05):
So
instead of stressing about how
much milk you see, focus on howoften your baby is nursing.
Feeding on demand is what tellsyour body, Hey, come on, keep
making more milk.
And that, my friend, is how youbuild a strong milk supply right
from the start.
Now, let's talk about anotherbig reason why so many moms
(03:27):
think their supply is low.
When in reality, Their body isdoing exactly what it's supposed
to.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (03:34):
Okay,
let me paint a picture here.
You just had your baby andsuddenly they want to be on your
chest all the time.
They're rooting, they're fussy, and you start thinking, Oh my
gosh, I must not be makingenough milk.
Well, the truth is, this iscompletely normal.
(03:56):
It's normal.
Newborn behavior is calledcluster feeding.
And it's actually the sign thatyour baby is working with your
body to boost your milk supply.
babies.
They go through growth spurtswhere they nurse constantly to
increase demand, which tellsyour body to make more milk.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (04:17):
So
if you're thinking my baby is
nursing all the time, I must notbe making enough milk.
Remind yourself.
This is my baby's way of helpingme build a strong supply.
The key is to let them nurse asoften as they need.
That's what keeps your supplygoing strong.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 A (04:38):
Now,
let's talk about the one thing
that can actually mess up thisprocess and cause low supply
issues if you're not careful.
So many moms struggle withsupply, not because their body
can't make milk, but becausethey weren't given the right
information from the start.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (04:56):
Here's
the deal.
Milk supply works on a simplerule, supply and demand.
If your baby nurses frequently, your body makes more milk.
If your baby nurses less oftenor you skip feeds, your body
makes less milk.
It's really that simple.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (05:15):
So
to keep your supply strong, the
most important thing you can dois to nurse early, nurse often,
and respond to your baby'shunger cues.
That's the secret.
Now I know what you're thinking, but how do I actually know if my
baby is getting enough milk?
That's the biggest question,right?
(05:37):
Well, in the next video, I'mgoing to show you exactly how to
tell if your baby is drinkingenough milk without second
guessing yourself.
