(00:05):
Hi, I'm Stephanie Poole, founderand CEO of Birth Prep Academy.
I'm on a mission to helppregnant moms prepare for their
first hospital birth.
I'm sharing revealingconversations about what it
really takes to successfullytransition into motherhood.
So join me.
We're here to discover thingslike what to expect in
(00:26):
childbirth, how to prepare foryour birth.
We'll also talk aboutbreastfeeding and so much more.
I'm so grateful to share it allwith you right here on Oh, Baby,
the podcast created for pregnantmoms, preparing for their first
hospital birth.
Let's get started.
(00:47):
All right, mama, let's have areal talk.
You've probably heard peoplesay, just go with the flow,
trust your body.
but what if I told you that thismindset could actually set you
up for a traumatic birth?
Now, I know that might soundshocking, but here's the deal.
When you don't have a plan,Decisions get made for you and
(01:10):
those decisions, well, theymight not be what you actually
want.
So stick with me because by theend of this video, you'll know
exactly why going with the flowcan be risky and the simple
shift that you can make to takecontrol of your birth
experience.
(01:31):
Okay, let's break this down bytaking it all the way back to
step one.
So the very first thing I wantyou to understand is that
hospitals run on protocols, notpersonal preferences.
If you don't clearly communicatewhat you want, then you'll
likely be placed on theirstandard routine and that can
(01:54):
look like IV fluids, continuousmonitoring, and laboring in bed.
Even if that's not really whatyou had planned.
Second, I want you to considerthis.
Stress takes over when you feelout of control.
Let me say that again.
Stress takes over when you feelout of control.
(02:14):
Now labor, well, that's superintense and if you're just going
with the flow, then it's easy tofeel powerless when unexpected
things happen.
That's when the panic can set inand suddenly birth feels more
like something happening to yourather than something that
you're actively a part of.
(02:35):
Now, the third thing I want youto be mindful of is what we call
the cascade of interventions.
And what I mean by that is wehave to be careful that one
small medical intervention, let's say for example, like
breaking your water before.
for labor naturally progressesto that point, sometimes that
(02:57):
could potentially start what wecall the domino effect leading
to more interventions.
Things like Pitocin, epidurals,or even C sections that could
potentially be avoided.
So we have to be careful aboutthat.
All right.
So after hearing all this, you're probably thinking, so
what can you do instead?
(03:17):
Well, Well?
I want you to start with onesimple thing.
I want you to have a birth planand a birth strategy.
A birth plan lays out yourpreferences, but a birth
strategy means that you know howto communicate those preferences
and you ready to adapt if thingsstart to change.
(03:41):
It's not about controlling.
It's about knowing your optionsand being involved in every
decision.
Also, I want you to practiceadvocating for yourself, and
this is important.
I want you to get into the habitof asking questions.
As a matter of fact, here's afew that you can just have on
(04:03):
deck to, to be willing to askduring your labor and birth
process.
Things like, is this necessary?
Or things like, You can ask, well, what are my other options?
Do I have any other options?
If so, what are they?
And I want you to ask, you know, what happens if we wait?
What happens if we just give ita little bit of time?
(04:25):
Is that an option?
These are simple questions thatput you back into the driver's
seat.
Now, most importantly, I wantyou to educate yourself right
now.
the more, you know, before laborstarts, the less likely you'll
be caught off guard when it'stime to give birth.
And that's exactly why I createdbump to bundle blueprint So that
(04:49):
you can walk into the deliveryroom confident, prepared, and in
control.
Now let's take it a stepfurther.
Not all doctors are assupportive as they seem.
And in the next video, I'mbreaking down the five red flags
that your doctor might notsupport your birth plan and what
(05:12):
to do before it's too late.
So if you want to avoid beingblindsided at your next
appointment, go ahead and clickthe next video now.
