bonus they thought they were going to get?

that right now. Just rumor has it.

(02:10):
OK, so people often experience a
complex mix of emotions around New Year's
Eve, New Year's Day into January. I'm
going to kind of list some. So and you're
probably going to find a place within
this, this, these ideas that you
that resonates with you. And I want you
to know you're not alone. There's lots of
other people feeling the same thing. So

(02:32):
maybe you feel hope or optimism
about the fresh start, anticipating
positive changes, viewing the year as a
blank canvas. For achieving goals and
dreams, maybe you have a sense of renewal
and possibility. Feeling energized to
make resolutions, embrace new
opportunities. However,
this time can also bring lots of anxiety

(02:54):
and pressure. Some people feel stressed
about unfulfilled goals from the year
before, or worried about meeting
expectations they're setting for
themselves. This emphasis then all over
the place, new year, new you, you know,
like you'll hear that everywhere. That
can be overwhelming or artificial to
many. Go back a couple episodes where we
talk about it's new year, same you
and you're just starting a new chapter,

(03:15):
not restarting all over again, but you
feel this constant bombardment for other
people to reinvent yourselves and that's
just really overwhelming, anxiety
producing and and pressureful. There's
also sometimes this bittersweet quality
to this transition. You reflect on the
past year, and that might bring some
gratitude for good moments, but also some
sadness about difficulties or losses that
you experienced the year before. Some

(03:37):
people experience lots of loneliness
during the holiday season,
particularly if they're physically
distant from the people they love, or
they've gone through significant changes
in their relationships this past year.
Lots of us have had some kind of change
with who we are able to
talk to, who's around, how

(03:59):
how those relationships exist.
Because holidays can also trigger more of
like an existential thought about the
passage of time, like some wishful
feelings or melancholy about growing
older, seeing the years pass. Even my
six-year-old was saying, boy, this year's
flown. And I'm like, you're 6 and just
wait till you're 40, right?

(04:21):
Or 60, right?Others might feel kind
of an ambivalence or skepticism about the
arbitrary nature of calendar-based fresh
starts like, eh, it's just another day,
need another day, another dollar. There's
also been, I don't wanna discount
those who have experienced trauma or loss
this past year. And the new year

(04:41):
might bring complicated feelings of
grief, but mixed with a feeling of
hope and for healing from that
trauma. And some people simply just feel
the complicated mix, right?I wanna keep
grieving, but I also wanna look for
healing, and I don't know. Which emotions
I should be feeling, which there is no
should just feel the feels, right? And

(05:03):
then of course there's those that just
feel neutral, indifferent, just another
day, right? This is what I'm going to tell
you how I'm feeling. I'm actually
recording this mid-december, so I don't
know how I'm going to feel on New Year's
Eve, New Year's Day when the episode
actually comes out, but today. I still
have a lot I want to get done by the end
of the year. I have a lot I want to do
next year. We've set our goals for the

(05:23):
next year. I still have things I need to
fill in with those goals and timelines,
and I'm feeling really overwhelmed with
all the things I want to do. If you
listen to the last episode, you know I
was trying to do too much. So
I want to talk now about how you might
set an intentional emotion for the
year to come and take however you're
feeling now. Which is very

(05:46):
natural, right?Very common. There's lots
of people that feel how you feel and then
and take that and set an intentional,
emotional tone for the year to come.
And so this is going to be another short
episode because it's coming out with the
holidays. So I'm not going to take a lot
of your time, just going to invite you

(06:06):
at some point, maybe while you're
listening or maybe at some point
over the next few days, maybe later
today. Just to sit
quietly and reflect on the emotional
state that would best serve your
well-being and your goals this year. Some
examples, it could be calm confidence or
joyful curiosity or peaceful

(06:27):
determination, whatever resonates with
you personally. And I like that kind of
two words to it. It's not one emotion,
it's two emotions. My son
loves Inside Out and Inside Out 2, his
favorite movies. If you've never watched
them, I recommend them. They're actually
really good. for adults too.
But in the first one, they learn like

(06:48):
it's not just one emotion, that emotions
can mix together and actually create more
memories. And then a second one, they
learn, sorry for, sorry, I should have
said spoiler alert, my apologies. In the
second one, they get into all these new
emotions. There's emotion wheels out on
the interwebs where you can see all these
emotions that you could have. Maybe pull

(07:10):
one of those up, right?Just Google
emotion wheel. And that'll
come up and you can kind of think like
which, which couple of these do I want to
mix together to set as like the
state that's going to serve my well-being
and goals. And then you know,
maybe consider how this emotion feels
in your body, right? Our emotions are

(07:31):
something that can be all over the place,
not just in our head or in our hearts,
but they can feel, they can be felt in
different places. So if you kind of
think of, OK, here's the the feeling I'm
thinking about. Then consider
where do you feel it?What physical
sensations accompany it?What
might calm confidence feel like?Relaxed

(07:52):
shoulders, steady breathing, warmth in
your chest. Where do you want to
feel that confidence?Or where do you feel
or that emotion?Or where do you feel it
right now as you're starting to think of
that emotion? And you can create simple
practices to try help cultivate this
feeling, maybe of that word or short
phrase. That you you have captured

(08:16):
and you put it places where you're going
to see it more regularly, like you know,
on your computer, like a little post-it
note or in your planner on the
regular, something like that. You might
identify ways to connect with that
emotion on the regular right part of your
morning routine or part of your nighttime
routine. To consciously like
embody that and and intentionally choose

(08:38):
to feel it. And even if you don't, you
know it doesn't fit where you are now,
you can create environmental cues that
right that remind you of that feeling and
notice when you kind of naturally
experience this emotion and take mental
notes of like what triggered it. So maybe
you can include more of those things in
your life to bring that intentional
emotion into your day-to-day. So it's

(09:00):
important to remember, this isn't about
forcing yourself to feel a certain way
while you're suppressing other emotions.
Rather, you're taking all the feels,
right?And you're gently
orienting yourself toward an emotional
North Star while still allowing
space for the full range of human
emotions. Again, look up one of those

(09:22):
emotional charts. We have lots of
emotions. You're gonna, you're just
choosing like, what's my North Star for
this year? When I want to feel grounded,
when I want to feel directed, what kind
of emotion do I want to come back to as
that touchstone?I actually
asked A I OK, I'm feeling
overwhelmed right now. What kind of
emotion might I choose for the year to

(09:43):
come?Use your little friendly A I
thing if you like that idea.
And my A I guy per thing
suggested something like calm acceptance
or patient trust. And then calm
acceptance. I mean, I like acceptance,
but also like, I want to have a growth
mindset, so that doesn't really fit

(10:05):
me. You know, I want to be content with
where I am, but like, I don't want to
just get lazy or, you know, whatever.
That's at least the connotation of that
word to me. But patient trust, I
really like that because it reminds me
too. That I don't have to do everything.
I can trust in a higher being. I can
trust in the people around me to do

(10:26):
really good things that I don't have to
do everything. And I can be patient to
allow, you know, that trust to,
like, show itself as valid. And so I'm
thinking that might be the emotional tone
that I'm going to adopt for the year to
come. Patient trust. I'd
love to know what kind of emotional tone
you're choosing, what what's gonna feel

(10:48):
supportive to you for the year ahead. If
you're watching on YouTube, you can
comment, let me know.
Maybe that will spark someone else that
they're like, oh, I like that one. I want
to do that same one. Or maybe just
even putting it out there in the world
that you're more likely to do it right.
Because I just shared with you, like all
these listeners that anybody around the

(11:09):
world could hear this, I bet I'm gonna
have a lot more patient trust in the year
to come. So there you go.
That's that's the episode for today.
That's it. This, I
believe a lot of what we
do with building wealth
comes from our emotions and our
emotions are things that are helpful to

(11:29):
us, to feel them, to experience them, not
to squash them, right, but
also to guide to them
and to have those places where we can
intentionally feel. Certain things that
are helpful to us and our journey with
our money, with our relationships, with
ourselves, and build that confidence and

(11:50):
that excitement, that chutzpah for the
year to come, the courage for the year to
come. So hope that was helpful to you. If
