Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, my name is Josh
and I'm your push coach.
I'm a failed rockstar turnedseven figure life coach.
I've trained over 40,000coaches and entrepreneurs since
I got started back in 2014.
I currently run my own lifecoach certification for those
who want to learn the powerfultools of transforming lives
using the psychology of truecoaching.
(00:20):
On this show, we're going toexplore business from a
different perspective.
I combine high energy withpsychology to teach you business
in a totally different way.
If you're tired of being toldto just show up and do the work,
or just believe more or justtrust the compound effect, this
podcast will take you on a deepdive to help you understand what
(00:43):
is actually holding you andyour clients back from doing the
work.
Once you understand thepsychology of performance, we
can build powerful messagingthat will attract the right
people who finally show up anddo the work.
If you're ready to be apowerful leader and build your
legacy, let's dive in.
Hello, what's up my friends?
(01:06):
What's up?
My name is Josh, I am your pushcoach and I'm excited to hang
out with you today.
Happy New Year to everybody.
As I'm recording this, it'sJanuary 8th, so I get that it's
not exactly like Happy New Yearper se, but I just feel like
2024 was a crazy year for a lotof people.
(01:29):
I just feel like we need tocelebrate Happy New Year all
month long.
Let's just make a whole monthout of celebrating Happy New
Year.
I want to talk today a littlebit about leadership, because
leadership is something I'mreally passionate about.
Leadership, because leadershipis something I'm really
passionate about.
Most of you know that I havewritten a bestselling book on it
, called F Leadership, that youcan get for free on my website,
(01:50):
as well as the best version ofyou.
We give away those for free aslong as you pay for shipping.
When you do that, you get anautomatic download of the audio
book as well as an instantdownload of the ebook.
So leadership is reallychallenging for a lot of reasons
, and some people struggle themost with just literally leading
(02:13):
themselves, especially when itcomes to their business, and
others struggle with leadingothers, like they can get
themselves to take action.
But then leading others is thisreally big, freaking challenge?
And so today I want to talk alittle bit about why it's hard,
because I actually don't thinkmost people understand.
I mean, they know that it'shard, they know the experience
is hard, but they don't know whyit's hard.
(02:35):
And I want to talk to you aboutthat a little bit today,
because a lot of people feellike why would anyone even want
to follow me?
I'm not successful or smart orinteresting enough.
Or they might feel like youknow, I failed or quit too many
times, so like, why would peopleeven trust me?
Others might feel like I knowhow to motivate myself, but like
(02:55):
I literally don't know how toduplicate success to other
people.
And then some are just like youknow what if others are failing
, like maybe it's a directreflection of me as a leader.
But I also feel like deep down, like deep down inside, there's
this other thought Maybe I'm noteven worthy of leading others
(03:19):
or getting the success that Iwant.
And sometimes that's really theunderlying belief.
That can be the most dangerous, because what happens is we get
these deep rooted beliefs Okay, and then we have more like
shallow things that we saybecause we're not consciously
aware of that deep rooted thing.
And that's kind of what I wantto talk to you a little bit
(03:41):
about today.
Actually, I'm going to use as anexample.
I want to talk about math for asecond.
I actually really like math, but lots of people really
freaking hate math.
They're just like triggered byany type of math that they have
to try to do in their heads, andso I like to use math as an
example.
Okay, I want you to pretend youknow if you're someone that
hates math.
(04:01):
Or maybe you're someone like meI'm like really good at math
but was terrible at science or Iwant you to just imagine
whatever your worst subject is.
Ok, we're going to use math asan example.
I want you to imagine as a kidyou know, you come home, you do
math tests, you keep coming homemaybe fourth or fifth grade,
and you keep getting these likereally subpar grades on math
(04:25):
paper and after math paper, onmath test after math test, and
then one day your dad looks youin the eyes and said what in the
world is wrong with you?
Are you just stupid?
Do you not know how to do math?
And what happens is there'sbeen kind of like these seeds
(04:45):
that have been planting already.
When you get a bad grade afterbad grade after bad grade, it
starts to develop in you aquestion of maybe I'm not very
good at this.
And then, out of nowhere, someone you really look up to,
someone you really respect, someone you love, someone whose
opinion you hold so near anddear to your heart, actually
(05:07):
goes ahead and solidifies thisbig fear and this big insecurity
that you now have.
And in this moment, when yourdad looks you in the eye and
says, are you just stupid?
Something clicks and this ishow our belief system works.
Okay, our beliefs are built upof a combination of repetition
(05:31):
and emotional experiences, soanything that happens like over
and over and over and over, yourbrain eventually just adopts as
a rule Okay, Whether it's fairor not, that's just how our
brain works.
If something happens, you know10 or 15 times our brain goes.
Oh, okay, this has happenedenough times.
I have enough data.
Let's make this a new rule inour brain that says we're not
(05:54):
good at this and your brain isreally just trying to keep you
safe, because your brain doesn'tknow that you're living in a
modern world where math is not asaber tooth tiger.
Your brain doesn't understandthat.
Your brain just goes.
We've done this several timesand we weren't good at it and
that didn't feel good, so let'stry to avoid this at all costs.
Okay, that's one of the ways ithappens, but another way it
(06:14):
happens is a really emotionalexperience, like your dad,
someone you love, looking at youand saying are you stupid?
And in that one single moment aconcrete belief can be set.
Repetition plus emotion justmakes it that much harder to
overcome.
Okay, it just becomes this likedeep rooted thing that is
(06:37):
almost always unconscious.
And I want to help you to seethis, because, on one hand, a
lot of you are like well, that'snot really unconscious.
I know I suck at math.
I've continued Like I'm very, very aware of that thought that
I have and it probably doesn'taffect your life that much,
especially since we all havecalculators on our phone these
days, but I always like to pointthis out.
(06:57):
In that moment, you consciouslyadopted this belief of I suck at
math, but you unconsciouslyadopted this belief of if I
don't perform, my dad doesn'tlove me, or if I don't do the
(07:18):
right thing, I won't be loved, Iwon't be accepted, I won't be
accepted, I won't be appreciated.
And that subconscious, underlying belief then starts to
affect our life in way moreways than sucking at math does.
Obviously, you also have abelief that you suck at math
(07:39):
which is going to make mathharder for the rest of your life
by just adopting that onesingular thought.
But there's going to be a wholelot of other issues in your
life.
That's also harder becauseyou're walking around with this
new rule in your brain that saysif I don't perform well enough,
I'm not loved, I'm not accepted, I'm not good enough, I'm not
(08:03):
worthy.
And the problem with this isthat then we start to take on
these unconscious habits.
For some of us, it turned usinto really hard workers, which
is a good thing in theory.
But when we're not getting theresult we want, especially in
business, I've talked to so manypeople that are like Josh.
(08:26):
I've always just been able towork hard and have success.
That's how it's always worked, and in a day job, that usually
is how it works In a day jobwork ethic.
As long as you're doing a jobyou've been properly trained to
do, work, ethic usually risesyou to the top.
As long as you're doing a jobyou've been properly trained to
do, work, ethic usually risesyou to the top.
But as an entrepreneur, here'swhere it becomes dangerous.
As an entrepreneur, we have alot of other moving pieces.
(08:48):
Okay, you don't just do yourjob and have success.
We have skills that we have tolearn.
We have skills that we have todevelop, and what happens?
What I see all the time is somany people never learn the
actual skills that it takes tobuild a business, because they
have this programming in themthat says I have to work harder
(09:13):
in order to achieve somethingand if I'm not achieving
something, first of all I'm notloved, I'm not accepted, I'm not
worthy, but second of all Ineed to work harder to try to
make it happen.
And then you just find yourselfin this cycle of just working
harder, working harder, workingharder, working harder, working
(09:34):
harder and still not gettingwhat you want.
And then here's where it getsreally crazy friends.
And then here's where it getsreally crazy friends you
accidentally stack an additionalbelief on top because after
you've worked harder, harder, harder and over time, remember
that repetition.
That repetition of if somethinghappens over and over and over,
it starts to become a rule inmy brain.
(09:55):
Now I start to get thisconflicting rule that says for
my entire life I've workedharder and that has got me
approval, that has got me thelove that I want, that has got
me the success that I want.
But now, in this new chapter inmy business, no matter how hard
I try, it's never enough.
I want to go one layer deeper, because that's the conscious
(10:19):
level.
The layer deeper than that is.
No matter how hard I try, I'mnot enough.
No matter how hard I try, I amnot worthy of success.
And when all of this just kindof stirs together in the
(10:40):
subconscious mind, it becomeslike a fucking Tulsa, Oklahoma
tornado of limiting beliefs, which then accelerate all of the
feelings.
One of the things that peopledon't talk about enough is just
how much our beliefs and ourfeelings are interconnected, and
that our feelings and ouractions are interconnected.
(11:03):
And what happens is, underneathall of the actions are these
feelings, and then a layerdeeper are these thoughts, and
then a layer deeper are thesesubconscious beliefs.
And if we do not take the timeand energy to fix the beliefs,
no amount of hard work in theworld will ever matter, because
(11:26):
you can work all day and nightas an entrepreneur and still not
create success if you don'ttake the time to learn the right
skills, if you don't take timeto learn the right systems and
methods.
And working all day and nightis not going to guarantee
success in a business.
So at some point you're goingto have to reprogram your
(11:49):
beliefs and then learn theactual skills that it takes.
And if you are someone who isstruggling to create success, it
is going to be 10 times harderto create success if you don't
learn the psychology behind allof this, of how your brain and
your feelings and your storiesand your thoughts work.
(12:09):
If you do not learn that, success is going to be 10 times
harder.
And if you're someone who wasable to create success because
maybe you are the kind of personwho learned the skills or
developed the skills and gotthere, it's going to be 10 times
harder to help other people tocreate success that are dealing
with these limiting beliefs.
(12:30):
Most leaders are just tellingpeople to work on their mindset,
read more books, get morejournals, have a better morning
routine, and the problem is, myfriends, none of that is ever
going to address the deep-rootedsubconscious beliefs that
people are truly dealing with.
The only way to do that is todig in through something we call
(12:54):
true coaching, and the reasonwe call it true coaching is
because there's a million andone people on the internet that
call themselves coaches, andwhat they mean by coach is
cheerleader, accountability,giving tools, giving systems.
Now, there's nothing wrong withthat, but when I'm talking
(13:14):
about true coaching, I'm talkingabout understanding the
psychology underneath all of itand knowing how to actually
coach someone through all of thethings going on inside of their
brain to help them to make theunconscious conscious.
Okay, this doesn't happen fromme teaching someone like, even
(13:34):
as you're listening, you'relearning about the process, but
this process still has to bedone for it to actually change
your life.
In other words, you would haveto literally get on a coaching
session with me so that I couldask the right questions to find
out what this belief is in yourbrain, because we all have
different experiences, differentpasts, we've all developed
(13:55):
different stories, or sometimeswe've developed similar stories,
but in different ways, and truecoaching is the process of
digging through those layers tofind out what is holding you
back, to literally uproot thatand start building something new
.
It's such a powerful thing andthat's why I'm really pumped, my
(14:16):
friends.
I'm so pumped about our nextround of our life and

bunch of money and praying toGod that on the other side of
the curtain, it's the thing theypromised.

belief to help others do thesame.
It also means you have thetools to communicate in a more
powerful way.
Some of you have heard me talkabout this a million times.
Everything I do in sales andmarketing comes from what I
(16:28):
learned about the psychology ofhow our brains work.
When you know what's going onin someone else's brain, you
understand what gets them tolean in versus what triggers
them.
I like to say, when you trulyunderstand the psychology side
of things.
You can build bridges insteadof accidentally burning bridges.
It's the most powerful tool tothis day in almost 11 years.
(16:53):
Guys, I celebrate 11 years ofbusiness next month in an 11
years of reading a million books, making over $7 million in
sales.
To this day, true coaching isthe one singular skill.
If I had to take everythingaway and be left with only one
thing to rebuild on, I wouldchoose this skill 100 times out
(17:15):
of 100.
