Feeling frustrated that your team doesn't rally together like they used to? You're not alone. This episode explores the critical mindset shift needed to revive team energy in today's rapidly changing business landscape.

The world has evolved dramatically since 2016, especially through the pandemic's online gold rush and now into a new phase with shorter attention spans and different consumer behaviors. But here's the trap many leaders fall into: they keep trying to recreate past successes using outdated methods. When we fixate on "getting things back to how they were," we miss the opportunity to pioneer what comes next.

I break down the psychology behind this challenge using a powerful coaching framework. Your thought that "things are harder now" creates feelings of stress and hopelessness, which leads to fewer meaningful actions, ultimately manifesting the very difficulty you fear. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy! The solution begins with shifting from asking "why isn't this working like before?" to "what problem can I solve now?" This pivot from problem-focus to solution-focus changes everything.

Beyond mindset, there's also a practical "seed problem" to address. When team cohesion weakens at the end of your pipeline, the solution lies at the beginning of your funnel. If you want team players, you need to actively attract them through messaging that emphasizes collaboration and community. Your marketing should consistently highlight how much better results are when achieved together.

The leaders who will thrive in this next era aren't those who perfectly preserved their 2019 playbook, but those willing to evolve and embrace new possibilities. Join our five-day leadership challenge at joshcoats.com to learn what's working right now from 15 industry leaders across different companies and products. The next "gold rush" belongs to those who can adapt—are you ready?

is actually holding you andyour clients back from doing the
work.
Once you understand thepsychology of performance, we
can build powerful messagingthat will attract the right
people who finally show up anddo the work.
If you're ready to be apowerful leader and build your
legacy, let's dive in.
What's up?

(01:05):
My friends?
My name is Josh.
I'm your push coach, excited tohang out with you.
Today.
I've got a little bit of aspecial episode talking about
some leadership strategy on howto revive your team, so I run a
program called the Six FigureInner Circle very specifically
for top leaders in the industry, and I do a lot of teaching and

(01:26):
training on a combination ofleadership systems and like
advanced sales and marketingstrategies.
One of the things that I findwith mentoring a lot of people
in the network marketingindustry is that in general and
I don't mean this as any type ofan insult, but in general the
network marketing industry is agood five to 10 years behind on

(01:48):
actual marketing strategies, andso I tried to bring all of the
things that are working in myworld as a life coach and course
creator to their world.
That helped them to translateit into ways to help them make
more sales and also recruit morepeople to their downline.
So today, in that specificprogram, I opened it up with Q&A

(02:09):
because I think it's really, really important not just to
teach what you want to teach, but to find out what are the
real problems that you'restruggling with right now and
let's make sure we're solvingthose problems.
That needs to be the number onefocus is solving the problems
you have right now, and onespecific leader she said Josh,

(02:29):
you know we're struggling to getour team revived and it feels
like you know, back in 2016, 17,18, 19, 20, like everyone was
excited, everyone loved being apart of the hype of, like, the
big team goal or, like you know, the like we're all going to try
to go for this rank advance, and it was like we could

(02:50):
announce something and peoplewould kind of immediately get
excited about it.
And now we announce those thingsand people are more like, ok,
cool, go do that, like, have fun.
And, in other words, it's lessof a like everyone's excited to
do it together kind of a thing, and it's more of a people kind
of like just doing their ownthing and aren't coming together
with the same collective andcollaborate energy.

(03:12):
And so, um, I dug into it acouple of different ways and and
I want to, I want to, I want tojust share the two.
I'm not going to share allthree things that I shared on
the call, but I do want to sharetwo of these specific
perspectives that are going tohelp you if you're in a similar
situation.
So the first thing that I askedher is what is the problem with

(03:32):
it being different than it usedto be Like?
Why is that actually a problem?
And, of course, as we kind oflike dug in the reality, is
things used to be, they used towork a certain way, and when
things work a certain way, firstof all, I mean it's fun to know
this is what works and this isexactly what we need to do, and

(03:55):
let's just keep building on thisright.
But the problem is when weaccidentally forget that the
world is always evolving andwhat worked really well 2016 to
2020, I can promise you wouldnot have worked in, say, 2010.
And so what I've personallyseen is I've been doing this

(04:17):
since 2015,.
Working with network marketers, and at that time, at 2015, we
had like a real big divide inthe industry.
There were a lot of people in alot of businesses that were
still on kind of like the tailend of doing things in person,
and then a lot of other peoplethat were starting to see this
big time momentum from doing itonline, and I kind of watched as

(04:42):
a lot of top leaders are likethe way.
I don't mean this in anynegative way, but older top
leaders, people that have beenaround for like several years at
that point were reallystruggling with this exchange
into the online world and a lotof them weren't willing to grow
and evolve and learn the new wayof doing things and they kind

(05:05):
of got left behind and some ofthem had enough built up
residual that they were fine.
But for some of those people, those companies have now gone
under and they're now beingforced to learn the new way of
doing things, whereas there wasthis new group of people coming
in around 2015, 16, that werekind of like honestly, a lot of

(05:25):
women in their like late 20s,early 30s, that were already
social media people, and so theywere learning how to do
business on social media andthings just started taking off
and blowing up.
And, as a lot of you know, 2020, when the pandemic hit, was
like the online gold rush.
Everything was just magical andeasy.
And then in the last couple ofyears in my opinion we're

(05:49):
entering the new phase Okay, sowent from being all done in
person to being all done online, and now there's like a new
shift happening and I'm notsaying that it's changing the
vehicle per se.
It's not like we're going tolike a new place per se Although
I guess you could argue thatTikTok is a new place.
That didn't exist back then andI do think TikTok has changed

(06:12):
things a lot, regardless of whatplatform you're on, in the
sense that, in my opinion, tiktok is kind of what's created
a little bit more of a likemore distractions.
People just want to watch likea 10 second clip and move on and
scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll scroll, and in my
opinion, that has created adifferent type of consumer where

(06:35):
all of us want something quick,we want something fast, like
like that has completely changed.
But like really this isimportant, this is so important
is, if we're not careful, we'regoing to spend so much time
trying to figure out how to getthings back to how they were
that we completely miss out onthe next movement.

(06:55):
And I'll be super honest, Idon't know exactly what the next
movement is.
I'm not saying that there is aclear, definitive way.
I think usually we don't evenreally know until four or five
years later when we're lookingback.
But the point that I am makingis that if you aren't careful,
you are accidentally going toget stuck in an old way and

(07:17):
everyone has moved on withoutyou, and so the question should
not be how do we get things towork like they used to work.
The question should instead bewhat is working now, now, and
how do we grow and how do weadapt as leaders, to make sure
that we're constantly evolvingand that we are constantly on

(07:38):
the cutting edge of what isworking, so that we can pass
that on to the people that welead.
And I'm not saying that youneed to go spend like five hours
a day studying trends oranything like that.
But my point is we need to havean open mind and an open
perspective, because if we arenot careful, we will carry
around this idea that it'sharder now than it was then and

(08:01):
when we have this, I'm justgoing to walk you through like a
very, very simple life coachingprocess that I would be putting
you through.
This is what we teach in ourcertification, but this is also
what I'd put you through if youwere like, let's say, a
one-on-one client.
If the story you have is thingsare harder now than they were,
then Our story or our thoughtsturn into feelings and when we

(08:26):
think about things being harder,it creates immediate feelings
of stress and overwhelm andhopelessness.
So our thoughts turn into ourfeelings and then our feelings
turn into our actions.
When we are feeling hopeless, frustrated, overwhelmed,
exhausted, the actions that wenormally take are we do less

(08:50):
actions take.
Are we do less actions?
We try less to get things towork, because when we're feeling
hopeless about the results ofour work, we usually do less of
that work.
Some of you will push throughand be like, well, I just do it
anyways.
But I would call that unalignedaction, meaning you're doing
the things because you knowyou're supposed to do the things
, but there's no belief behindit, there's no energy behind it.

(09:13):
There's no energy behind it,there's no creativity behind it.
It's literally just youchecking off boxes, and so our
thoughts turn into our feelings, our feelings turn into our
actions, and then our actionsultimately give us the results.
So when we step away, when wetake less action, when we're
having forced actions that areout of alignment with who we are

(09:34):
, we end up manifesting thatthings are literally harder, and
so what we have to do is wehave to pivot away from this.
We have to become veryself-aware.
We're in a season where a lotof leaders are struggling with a
lot of these thoughts andfeelings and accidentally
manifesting a season of hardship, and what we need to do instead

(09:57):
is ask why do we even careabout this, like, why do we even
want to help people?
And as we answer this question,we start to lock into our
purpose, we start to lock intoour potential, we start to lock
into our superpower, and I'm notsaying that this fixes all the
problems.
I am going to talk a little bitabout strategy in this little

(10:18):
mini episode as well, but thefirst problem is always dealing
with our own thoughts andbeliefs, because that's the
first thing and really the onlything we can fully control.
If we're stuck in a cycle of whyis it different, why is it hard
, why isn't it working, wecreate more of that when we
instead tap into.

(10:39):
I want to help every singleperson in the world, because I
know people are struggling and Iknow people need what I have
and I don't want people to haveto go through this alone and I
don't want people to have to dothis without the resources the
way I used to have to.
Now, all of a sudden, I createfeelings of purpose and hope.
Those thoughts lead to thefeelings that get me to actually

(11:02):
take the positive action.
It takes for this to actuallyget easier.
Nothing is going to get easierwhile we're sitting around
looking at problems.
It only gets easier as we'reout on a quest to solve problems
, and that's one of the prayersthat I say with my kids in the
morning is that we ask that Godwould give us the solutions to

(11:23):
the problems that are happeningin the world, so that we can
make the world a better place.
That is literally our job asleaders.
Friends.
Our job is to find problems andthen create the solution.
It's not our job to wake up andhave an easy life or an easy
day or an easy business.
We are literally in thebusiness of solving problems,

(11:47):
and if there are no problems tosolve, we probably don't have
much of a business.
So embrace the fact that we getto learn, we get to grow and we
get to create whatever the nextbig thing is.
We are going to get to do thatif you lean into it.
But now let's talk about thesecond problem, which is what I
call a seed problem.
Lean into it, but now let'stalk about the second problem,

(12:08):
which is what I call a seedproblem.
So anytime I see a problemmanifesting at the end of the
pipeline, I want to go back tothe very, very, very beginning
of the funnel, which is ouradvertising, our marketing, our
messaging.
Okay, so one of the things shesaid was that you know like she

(12:30):
really misses.
When people came together as ateam and wanted to be part of
something, I said so if that'swhat we want at the end of the
pipeline, then we need to insertthat into the beginning of the
funnel.
We need to talk way more onsocial media about how much
better it is to do things with ateam, about how more fulfilling
it is when you have people onyour side, about how much more

(12:50):
exciting it is when you dothings together with other
people.
So for her, she's a health andwellness coach.
So going to the health andwellness goals, it's more fun,
it's easier, it's moreproductive when we do it
together.
The business side, it's morefun, it's more easy.
We need to go back to the rootof the problem and start there.

(13:14):
It doesn't fix the problem bytoday, but what we're doing is
creating a new motion so thattwo months out, three months out
, six months out, we have anentire pipeline, an entire
funnel full of people that wantto be team players.
And then, guess what, we don'thave to convince people to be

(13:35):
team players because they camein as team players.
So when it comes to ourleadership, friends, this is
really important.
We are always in control.
It might not feel like it.
There's a lot of moving piecesthat are outside of us, but
there is always a way for us totake control.
We have to be very, verycareful about the energy by

(13:58):
which we ask questions insteadof what is wrong and why isn't
this working, how about what iswrong and what can I do to fix
it.
I want you to take a minutetoday and I want you to ask
yourself what is the biggestproblem you're having in your
leadership, or even in yourbusiness today, and are you
accidentally making that problembigger and harder by constantly

(14:21):
focusing on how hard it is, orare you pivoting your focus to
how do we solve these problems?
What am I in control of?
What can I learn?
How can I change?
How can I adapt?
And friends, that is one of thereasons I'm so passionate about
my certification.
It is literally equippingleaders with a better way to

(14:43):
help their people.
We are not living in a hype ageanymore.
We are living in an age wherepeople want specific solutions
that help them More specific.
That's what life coaching isall about.
