Speaker 1 (00:01):
It feels good, good news, positive stories. We share him
every day on the show Happy Stuff. What's you find? Caleb?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
So, Philly's first baseman, Bryce Harper recently helped a New
Jersey high school senior, Jake Portella with his prom posal.
In a now viral video, Bryce and Jake knock on
Julia Leonetti's door. She answers, and she gets real shocked
when she sees Bryce. She says, I'm gonna cry, and
then Bryce says want Jake wants to ask you to prom,
so I thought i'd help him out.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Will you go to prom with him? She then hugged
Bryce first. Oh yeah, I'm going right, She said, you're
the goat.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
And the video ends with Bryce shaking her dad's hand,
which is really sweet. And as for how this all
came about, Jake said, he literally knocked on Bryce's door
and asked him and he was immediately willing to help.
He can't make it to prom because I think they
have a game, but they think they're going to have
a Phillies themed color as further what they wear.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
But he just knocked out his door and he's like, yeah,
I'll help you out do it.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
That's amazing. Yeah, so a fire department. The whole thing
has been rescued by a half a million dollar donation
from a ninety one year old man. So at the
end of the first quarter, the Calhoun, Missouri Fire Department
volunteer fire department only had one hundred and sixty nine
dollars in its bank account and it was depending on
donations from other departments to protect the small town of
(01:20):
roughly five hundred people. But it's a whole different situation
now that Sam Sloan, who's a ninety one year old man,
gave five hundred thousand dollars to the department, telling NBC News,
I know how much money they had each year to
work with. I was in business for forty or fifty
years in this community. The firefighters made Sloan the honorary
fire chief, complete with a hat, and they said that
(01:41):
they'll follow his terms for the gift. All he wants
is a large community barbecue, wants the department gets new uniforms,
and he wants the new fire engine to lead his
funeral procession. Someday, let's week save the whole damn town.
