Speaker 1 (00:00):
They talk better than they tell me. These are the
radio blogs on the Fred Show, like we're writing in
our diaries, except we say I'm alowd to. We call
them blogs. Paulina, Yes go.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Thank you so much, dear blog.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
So I purchased, well, I didn't my husband purchase a house.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
We bought a house back like what.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
January February ish, and we are new to the block.
And now we are having our first black party.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
And I know I.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Grew up like having black parties and like black parties
were fun.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, so I'm really excited they're making a comeback.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
And I think because they went away for a while,
right they did blog parties were I feel like they
were like kind of gone, and now they're.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Not a block. Really you still to those?

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Now?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Make me come back.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
So I'm excited because this is our first one at
the new house. But of course it lands on a
weekend where half my family's gone and hobbyse whole family's gone,
so they're all on vacation, so like no one's going
to be here from them that they're good time, So
that would have been fun. A lot of my friends
like really can't come. And then my best friend is
having his block party slash housewarming party that same day.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
So you're not throwing the block party right like it's
being organized by somebody else.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
It's organized, but it's on your block.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
It's on my block, Okay, I want to be clear. Yea,
it's not like, well, it's my block party to throw,
but no one's coming, so I'm just not doing it. No, no, no, no,
Like they picked the day.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
They picked everything, and somebody's collecting like all the funds
and everything. So speaking of the funds, there was a
request of can you every house kindly requesting right forty dollars,
And even though I knew that I will be in
and out that day because my sister is here too,
and we're kind of in and out right and I
may or may not be there at some point, I.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Still paid it. I have to felt like I had you.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yeah, like you cannot not pay this to your neighborhood
throwing this. You have to contribute. You cannot be the
one house in the neighborhood that does not contribute to
the block party, whether you're going or.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Not going exactly, even if we were out of town,
even if I.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Was out of town, I feel that you didn't book,
like you two for this thing. It's not like a
thousand dollars, you know, it's forty And even if you
don't go, and you know, they get a bounce house
for all the kids in the neighborhood, you contributed to that,
Like is the right thing to do.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
I love that you said that exactly. And one of
my friends he's like, why would you contribute to that?
Like you're not going to be there, and I'm like, well,
that's the point, Like I need to be the neighborly
friendly like person that also contributes to these events, these
organized events on our block, even though I may not
be there, even though you probably will see me there too.
How embarrassing when I pull my lawn chair up there

(02:27):
for a couple of minutes and like, you know, hang out,
and then they're looking at me like, I don't think
she paid because they will gossip.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Oh yes, they will gossip.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
No, you you have to even for that reason alone.
You have to contribute, just so that you're not the
person they're talking about.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
You have to So who told you? Did you have
a friend who was like, oh, you're not going, so
don't pay.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
When my friends told me that I don't like it. No, yeah,
I didn't like that either. I think it's important. I
think that I'm creating a community, if you will, of
you know, just just contributing to the fun that we're
about to have, because this block is full of fun.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
I agree. No, if one in the neighborhood, it is
what it is.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
Yeah, And as the new neighbor, you definitely have to
because the people that have already been on the block,
they already are looking at you to see what kind
of vibe you're going to give. So you got to
start off on the right foot.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
And I haven't really, to be honest, and met many neighbors.
I've met a couple. I met the nice man across
the street, older man. I think he's a veteran, excuse me.
Then across the street this way we got a nice couple.
And then two houses down I met a nice couple too.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
That's all I know.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Now you have to put it would be like in
my building. I live in a building, high rise, bunch
of units, and there's a homeowners association fee and it
covers like certain staff and the pool. I guess it's
like an indoor pool for working out in a gym,
I don't know, like clean the floor whatever it is. Right,
it would be like me going, well, I don't use
the pool, so I'm going to take twenty percent off

(03:48):
of my HOA or something every month because I don't
use the I don't use it, so I don't I
shouldn't have to pay for it. It's like no, but
we live in a community, so we're all contributing, and
we use what we use. We don't use what we
don't use. But like, if you don't want to do that,
then go live on a ranch in Utah where you like,
you don't Montana or something where no one else is
around you and you don't have to worry about anybody else.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Right, Yeah, I agree, and actually do, like I hope
that everyone's contributing because I do realize there are elderly
people on the neighborhood, like and then in the block,
I mean, and I kind of do hope that they
are too. I mean, again, every situation is different, but
I just kind of hope that they are just so
that I don't know, like I just would hate that
to you.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Know, you know, one, if you've got the forty bucks, yes,
and maybe somebody doesn't right, and so like, if you've
got it, even if you're not going to be there,
then you should give it because I think it's the
right thing to do.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, it makes everybody feel good, like it'll be fun.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Well, go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
No.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I was just going to ask if she remembers the
Friends episode where Ross moved into an apartment and the
handyman was retiring.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Oh, and everyone pitched in for the handyman, but Ross
didn't and the whole building hated. I mean he had
to move.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, someone just texted, it's a whole Friend's episode. Yeah,
as you said it. Yeah, yeah, Because I like cameln
you live in a building. I live in a building
like a high racing and they try and do stuff
like this, like they try and say like oh it's
movie night, or in the community in like the chared room,
or like they try and do like in the lobby.

(05:10):
They'll have like a happy hour once a quarter or something,
and people go and I don't, but people not surprisingly
because I'm what I gonna do to show up and standing.
It's a high school like high school dance all over again.
I get to walk around engage like banks. But I
never lived in a neighborhood that did stuff like this,
like and I kind of I don't know if I
ever had kids and family like as much I don't
want to live in the suburbs, I feel like you,

(05:31):
I would owe it to them to go into an
environment like this where people do stuff like where the
neighbors the kids play with each other and kids ride
their bikes, and like, I don't know, there's stuff that
happens seasonally. We never had this growing up. Our neighborhood
never did anything.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Like this, even had black parties.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
No. But I think it's a very Midwestern thing. Maybe
it's a Southern thing too, but I know it's very
much a Midwestern thing. Like the thing I told you
about with my grandfather, how like everybody had when the
garage door went up at five o'clock and then everybody
could go drink out of the cagerator in his garage.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
I'm still waiting for that. I want to be that.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I want to know what it was brilliant, because the
one problem for me would be you've got randoms in
your driveway every day because that's you started the tradition.
But the other thing is everyone loves you because you're
the beer guy. Yeah, and then you know, I don't
know when I need to borrow a tool or something,
I can go over there and get it because I
gave you, you know, perhaps blue ribbon.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
But he was smart.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
He had a signal when the garage is up, come
when it's down, don't bother me because some neighbors.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Don't get the social cues.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Like we spoke on Tuesday, we do not need to
speak on Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Like, no, that's a good pointed. And this was in
the eighties and seventies. This is before people could have
a code on their garage. Because now I can see
somebody getting clever and being like, well, just give me
the APP. No, no, I'm not. No, I'm not going
to give you the APP like we're not doing that.
I have the old I'm taking the motor off of
my garage door. It's manual, so when it is up,
you can attend. When it is down, you cannot attend,

(06:51):
and it will not open for anyone but me. Exactly.
I think it's I think it's nice. It is nice
they do in your neighborhood.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
I don't even make eye contact with my neighbors. Okay,
I don't want to meet nobody. I don't see.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
I'm the one who gets the hard time on this
show for being anti social, but it turns out many
of you are too.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
I am very much so outside of here.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Yes, people don't understand that. Follow me on Instagram if
you want to talk, people are like you guys, see
that relatively personable and whatever. It's like, yeah, but we
use all of our words before everyone's out of bed
in the morning.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Exactly, And get ready with me. I'm on TikTok. If
you want to talk, I don't have many words in person.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
I think that would surprise a lot of people. I
think everyone just thinks you're just a just a nope,
just a funhouse of content and friendliness.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Nope.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
I close my garage, running the house, let the dog out,
and going out.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
I should run run in the house. Yeah, I've done
that too. I've done that too. Like right, here's somebody
going into the rash room in the hallway and I'm like,
I'm going to wait a minute, yes, yes, or do
you ever do the thing? This is terrible? And I
live in a community, I know, do you ever do
the thing where there's elevators? Of course? And like I'll
see that there's a chance that I'll have to be
in the elevator with someone else, so I'll like speed

(08:01):
my walk up and like push the button really really
fast because i want the door to close, because like
there's enough elevators for everybody. So it's like, I'm not
I'm not inconveniencing anybody, but I don't necessarily want to
have to talk to you, so or all walk slower
so that the person in front of me can get
an elevator and have their own elevator. Then I get
my own elevator. Oh yes, okay, good, I'm not.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
That.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, I'm like Fred, hold on, I'm getting on the elevator,
and what you say, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
The best part is when you are pretending to be
on the phone. Then the phone rings and I was like, oh, oh,
it was just connected. I had no idea. I'm waiting
by the phone. After Ben's
