Yes, dear blog, so listen. Yesterday I was preparing myself
to send an email to one of our coworkers. And
this coworker I love, like we we go way back.
She's taught me a lot. She's an icon. She never
miney now girl, so I mean you cool. But so

as I'm prepared to this email, I should have. All
I needed was a thanks, you know. That's really all
the email really called for was me to just say thanks.
But instead I sat here for like ten minutes trying
to find the emoji button in our emails because I
needed to add a heart so that she understood how
grateful I was, because she sent me the copy for

my commercials.

So like you couldn't just say thank you, I love you, well, no,
I love you because that's too much. But a heart
symbolizes love, but without saying oh. I see the conundrum now.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And I have this problem of I can't respond to
text or email without some type of emoji, like I
need to let you know the vibe and I always
want you to know that the vibe is light, it's fun.
I'm smiling.

I never want to send you an explamation point. You
think I'm yelling, but I have to include an explamation
point because if I don't, then you're gonna think I'm
being mad.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Is that like if you say to somebody like, I
don't mean to be a jerk, or let me be
honest with you, or I'm not gonna lie you. Is
that like when you preface something, but then I'm about
to be a jerk. No, because so what I'm saying though,
is that so you can say whatever you want and
then put a little flirty fun emoji at the end
of it. It's like, you suck, smiley face. I still
think you suck, but smiley face means I could be kidding.
Is that what you mean? No?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
I just I think it's something with millennials and gen z,
like it's a way that we have to communicate with
each other through email and text, and it's like you
have to if the some people, if you don't put
an exclamation point, then you're you're being mean if you
some people, if you do put an exclamation point, then
you're being really mean. If you don't use an emoji,
then it's like you're being dry with me. If you do,

it's it's I don't know, maybe it's just me, but
I really overthink this whole thing, and I cannot send
email without some type of emoji like to say like
like I'm smiling, I'm not yelling. This is a heart
because I love an email.

I always do, yes, But what if I just what
if I just know you and I assume that whatever
you're saying is coming from a good place, Like I didn't.
I didn't need a little you know, rainbow and heart
next to it to know that you didn't think you
can love. But you know what I mean, like like,
I mean, you sent me a lot of eggplants, but
I'm like, I thought that was because you were looking
for some stir fry or something, you know, like you know,
you're looking to eat more helpfully in the new year.

One who struggles with this that overthinks the way that
we communicate through text in emails.

I did, But it took me like an hour to
find the button because my email was all rearranged when
I came back. But yeah, I had to find that
heart before I sent that email.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
It's just it's that serious. I'm afraid to put a
period in the text message. Ye I literally I was
texting Kalb the other night and I was like, I
put a period? Is she gonna think? I'm like trying
to like be assertive like you are the period I
want to We cannot be that fragile, are fragile.

I can't use a complete sentence in a text message forever,
