Speaker 1 (00:01):
Caitlin, do a blog audio journals like we're writing in
our diaries. Go ahead, dear blog.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
So a while ago on the show, I, in order
to hold myself accountable, talked about how my doctor was really,
really on my case about starting to think about mammograms
and starting to maybe think about getting the gene test
for what's called the brockogene, which is related to breast cancer,
and a ton of the thirteen had been on my

(00:28):
case and asking about it. So I am happy to
report it may have taken a couple of years, but
I finally worked up the courage to take the kit
from Mi Gino, and she started this whole program to
where she has the kids in office, which I think
that was an issue before they were hard to get
or they were too expensive, and insurance is now covering
a lot of it or some of the cost if

(00:48):
you have a risk that they prove a My nana
had breast cancer at forty and her sister had it
as well, and so technically I should have done this
at thirty, but you know, neither here there. So I
finally took the test and it was a very easy experience.
I was nervous because my doctor's office changed their messaging

(01:09):
system and they kept messaging me like you need to
make an appointment, you need to make an appointment, and
I'd be like, oh my god, the results are in.
But it was just for my annual and I was like, oh,
you give me a heart attack every time. So I
did get the results back and they were mostly good.
I do not carry the gnarly brockegen, the bad one.
I carry a variant of it and a variant of
another gene, but they're not an issue right now, so

(01:29):
like I can take a deep sigh of relief. And
what's really cool about doing this is now they have
my info and my data and my genetics and so
if they're going to keep researching these things that I
carry and everyone who does the test, and they will
contact you if they find that it is starting to
mutate or become an issue. So it's like a community

(01:49):
that you join for life, and it's so awesome and
I know obviously it's very scary, but I think in
these cases, knowledge is power and finding things early is power,
and yeah, if you have any questions, it was it
was an awesome experience. It was just like doing a
DNA test. So swab mail it in and mine was
fully covered by insurance, which I was scared of. I

(02:10):
know Angeline and Joelee was the first one to like
do this, but at that time it was so expensive.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Well, I know people like you and in our family too,
my grandmother and my mom have had issues. So I
know that it can be daunting to go do it
because it's almost like am I walking into something like
but by ignoring it or not doing anything you said this,
you know it could be so much worse as in
the future if you're just naive to it, right, like

(02:36):
if you just don't, you just choose to ignore it,
like it's not happening. You know, maybe if you catch
it early then you know the outlook, the prognosis will
be so much better then if you wait. And I
know that's easy for me to say. It's a scary thing.
Colon cancer in my family too, So they're gonna have
to go stick a thing up my booty, which and
not in the way that anybody would want so anyway,
but I'm dreading it too because not because I don't

(02:57):
I don't want to do that, but also because I
don't want them to find anything. And it's like why
I was none the wiser. I felt fine, but they
you know who knows that they find it early enough
in your case or in this case, then they can
treat it and you know you'll live a long life.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, and if you have kids, it's important. If you
want to have kids, it certainly affects that. And by
the way, men can get tested for the Brockagen So
like if my dad had been tested and he was
a carrier, that would be information to know. So I
sort of did it, you know, for the family as well.
So yeah, I mean it just DM me ka e
l a n for real on Instagram. If you have
any questions, No one's.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Going to remember that.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I know.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I have to do it for you. It's k ae
l a N fuck read.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
But yeah, go go get the info because it's helpful
and it's not as scary as you think. Maybe.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Well good for you, that's good message. Yes, thank you
Calein three years La tail, I do the same things
in there, so say stuff on the air and then
I'm like I'm committed, right, and then I have to
do it. The entertainer reports sext
