Speaker 1 (00:00):
As an enter famer report he's on the Fresh Show.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
So the Super Bowl kicked off with a very powerful
message and also by honoring the victims of the New
Orleans terror attack and other tragedies that have shaken the
US in the last couple months, and it certainly seems
like there's been a lot.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Now.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Eagles and Chiefs players were on the field just moments
before kickoff when Saints Starr Cam Jordan and brought out
NOLA first responders from the terror attack to thank and
honor them for their service. The powerful tribute continued by
honoring victims of the DC plane crash, the Philly plane crash,
Hurricane Helene, and the devastating California wildfires.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Elsewhere during the Super.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Bowl, a protester was waiving a Palestinian flag during the
halftime show before getting tackled to the ground by security.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Now, this moment went down and I don't.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Know if anyone saw it during Kendrick's last song, and
video shows what appears to be a performer pulling out
the flag and putting it on full display as he
stood on top of the same car that Kendrick started
his show on.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
In the crowd.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
The sever Caesar's super Dome was packed with a listers.
I mean, Kevin Costner, Bradley Cooper, Pete Davidson. President Donald Trump,
who was fresh off of his flight over the newly
dubbed Golf of America.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
He had a busy day.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
He was also golfing with Tiger Woods earlier in the day,
so he got a lot jam packed.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
He was very busy.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, they had to fly over the Golf of Mexico
that announced it, and there was Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
It was, well, it was exciting.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Call it what it is.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
What did I say? Did I say the Golf in Mexico?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Excuse you, my god, that's gonna be a hard one
to break.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
The Golf of America. And then they announced it, so yeah, yeah, yes, sir,
he did.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Also Ice Spice and Taylor Swift were there.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
And listen, you guys know I'm a Swifties so maybe
I'm biased, but I felt bad for her. The entire
stadium it seemed like was booing her. I mean, I'm
assuming it was Eagles fans. And then after the game,
Trump kind of doubled down and was like the only
person that had the worst time.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
In the Chiefs was Taylor. She's just she was just
supporting her mawn so I was the girl, literally, I
don't know, she was just she was just there.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
She had a very funny reaction to being booed too,
just with her little side.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
I like, this is weird. Why are you guys booing me?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I really loved those seeing Serena Williams, who of course,
was one of the surprise guests during the halftime show,
she tweeted, I love you Taylor Swift.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Don't listen to those.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Booths soster eggs. There was a there was the necklace.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
For Kendrick Lamar.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
What did a necklace mean?

Speaker 3 (02:28):
A lower case A for a minor?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah so yeah, so he said something like his lyrics
are strike a chord, but it's probably a minor and
like the double on timed underage. Yeah, so he had
the blinged out lowercase a. Serena Williams was, I guess
if you want to call her an Easter egg because

(02:53):
she cannot stand Drake. They used to hook up and
Drake won't stop talking about hooking up with her.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
But she's married, so.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
That's a I was gonna say, like, what does your
husband think of that?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
I don't think he likes it like, Hey, I'm gonna
go I'm going to further troll this guy that I
used to be with on the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
I'll be back tomorrow sports her.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
I hope he supports her in it, because Drake has
been trolling her for years. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, Oh, I thought you meant what her husband thought
of the fact that Drake won't stop talking about it.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I mean that's an interesting take if.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
She's like, Babe, I'm gonna go out there and we're
gonna get this guy. But I bet you he does
support her because he's probably pissed that Drake.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Won't stop talking about hooking up with his wife.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I think though, if I were with Serena, I'd be like,
how about we just ignore it? How about we don't
feed it.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
You wouldn't like it.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
I don't think i'd like it, because if you're like still,
if you're that intent on getting back at a guy
that you used to be with, but you're with me
now so much so that you're gonna go into super
Bowl and you know, do a little dance.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
I don't know. I guess I'd be like, are we
we're not over that? Like, we're not ignoring that you
have an upgraded I would like it.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
I think she was supporting Kendrick too, because he actually
just her name in the song, so that was okay, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, that's fair.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I mean he probably didn't want to, you know, fumble
her bag on going on the super Bowl stage.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
It's probably her only chance ever and that would be cool.
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
But I really do hope though, that they don't drag
her into the lawsuit.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
That's my one that's my one prayer.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I'm like, Drake, leave her alone.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
And seeing that Drake is suing everybody, see, we might
get into Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I was genuinely worried about Drake, like I can't like
I It's the entire country is singing about you. Yeah,
you know, I mean it was that was next level.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
I don't know. I mean I thought, I don't know,
I'm worried about him.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
He'd be all right, I think, be just fine. Right, Yeah,
he can go, he can go cry into some money.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
I mean, it's like enough that there was a concert
bashing him. It's enough that there was an award show
bashing him. It's enough that the super Bowl was bashing him.
I mean that's a lot of that's a lot of crazy.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
Worried about Ice Spice personally, why she's sat there. No,
that's a great thing. She sat there next to Taylor
and they never put her name up there. It was like,
there's Taylor Swift and it's like, I Spights, You're just
sitting there.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
That was concerning for me too. It was very concerning.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Obviously, Blake Lively was noticeably missing from last year's Super
Bowl crew, so that was.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
A very interesting bit.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
