Speaker 1 (00:00):
One oh three five Kiss FM, Chicago's number one hit
music station. I'm Bella and I've got the lovely sill
over here sale. How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm good? How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm great? I'm just so happy to be in your presence.
You have no idea any waiting for this interview, Like,
oh my gosh, I've been so excited. I've been studying you,
stalking the socials, you know, as one does. So you know,
don't mind me, just creeping.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Don't worry you want to.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
So I was creeping that you're a self taught pianist
and singer.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
That's a stretch, but yes, I did teach myself piano.
That's so cool.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
I can you teach myself anything. So now it's like
you go from this self taught, you know, girl in
your parents' basement as you were saying, and now you're
headlining for Dualipa. How does that feel like? Have you
had like an I made it moment?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yet?
Speaker 1 (00:55):
I know, like the tour just started, so it's like
kind of fresh. But what is that like?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
I mean, any moment that I'm on stage singing to people,
I think is in I made it moment? Yeah, because
it's the whole point, do you know what I mean? Yeah,
that's all. That's the whole reason that you do it.
If there's fifty people in front of you or a
hundred thousand people in front of you, like that is
what we've all wanted and what every artist wants. Yeah,
so I think that I've had a million I made
(01:19):
it moments just by singing on stage and having that opportunity.
It definitely feels surreal, you know, being on this tour,
and I'm so thankful to do it for the opportunity.
It's just incredible, and she's incredible, and she's an artist
that I look up to a lot. So it's been
really fun and it just started, so a lot more
(01:40):
experiences to go.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
But yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. And this is not
this is not the final stop. You've got a lot
ahead of you. But I saw so I as I
was saying creeping on the socials, stumbled upon TikTok, and
I saw that you have a new song coming out
next week called something like this. I am so excited
for it. You you have so much soul in your voice.
(02:03):
You get that a lot I do. Yeah, okay, yeah,
it's it's like incredible. Thank you, goose bumps.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
But can you tell me give me a little sneak peek, like,
what should you what should like a what should I
expect from this song? Well?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
I think that the song itself, it's so you know,
different from a lot of things that I've done in
the past, mainly because it's this opportunity for me to
explore my femininity and explore what it means to feel
confident in myself without feeling like that confidence is coming
from a partner or a relationship or whatever, like any
(02:42):
outside source. It feels very internal. As much as the
song is, it's very sexy, it's very you know, and
it really brings that out of me. I think it's
the first time that I've able I've been able to
explore my sensuality on a record, truly, but also without
any expectations or any anybody's opinion surrounding me, you know
what I mean. And I think that what you can
(03:04):
expect is just it's very confident, and my hope is
that it can invoke confidence and self love and other
people as well. You know. I think that you can
just expect to feel really sexy and have so much
fun when you're listening to the record.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Yeah, I'm going to feel so sexy.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yes, it's genuinely like it. It is one of those
songs that I just like. I listened to it and
I just I feel like I can be myself and
I'm there's like space being held for that, you know
what I mean. And it's so interesting because the song
is waiting. It's the lyric is like I've been patient.
(03:44):
I've been waiting for something like this. And the way
I take that, I think, is like I've been waiting
for this new version of myself outside of my past
relationships or my past traumas or issues or self confidence issues,
like I've been waiting for this version of myself to
finally come into fruition. And here I am. And it's
a celebratory moment for me and I hope for everybody
(04:07):
that listens to it.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
I am so excited. And can we know what date
it's going to drop? Next week?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
It's going to drop September twelve.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
September twelve, Sorry, I get marking it on my calendar,
like as we speak.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Please September twelfth. And I'm so excited. Everything's getting very
fuzzy with the door but it's I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well, this is very exciting time. And I saw that
you have a little at a James tattoo. So I
was thinking, so, what is an artist that you wish
you could collab from present, past, future? No, I'm kidding
for the past. It's like, uh, like would just be
like your dream.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Collab Prince, Prince, Prince, I would love to hear you guys.
Oh my god, I just like I can't even imagine
it would be it would be Prince, or it would
be Ran Wilson. I think that would be incredible, like
(05:06):
those I just I've I really love old music. I
really really love it. It connects to my soul. I
don't know why.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah, I was gonna say, you're like giving old soul, like,
you know, like in a good way. Yeah, Like you're
very approachable and like.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, I think it's you know, I grew up in
a big family and and with a lot of I
mean extended family, and I was really grateful in that
and blessed in that way to have so much you know,
education about you know, the past and and music from
the past, you know, especially for my grandpa and my grandmother,
(05:43):
and so it really just like get connected with me.
And I think that I am a very nostalgic person
as much as I am so young and don't have
much to be nostalgic about yet, but I I just
I love the feeling of taking people up to a
certain place. And I think that old me music, especially
the music that I've that I love and listen to
(06:03):
and I've collected in my own vinyls and everything. It
always takes me to the place, you know, whether it
was the place I was in or the place that
I can only imagine they were in when they were
writing it. And I love music like that and it
inspired me a lot to make my music like that.
I always want my music to have, you know, uh,
a smell, a taste, sound, It will take you somewhere
(06:25):
in your life. It will take you to a certain place.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
So yeah, So I have one a little fun question
for you so we can like wrap this up. So
I was wondering, if you have a hot what's your
hottest take that you'll take to the grave. For instance,
mine is like, I think that people who sleep with
their socks on are absolutely insane.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
They are insane. Okay, thank you very much, agree with that.
I think what's my hot take? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I need to be you gotta have one. You gotta
have one.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
I guess, like, I guess my hot take is like
I think that you don't need to drink milk past
like twelve or thirteen years old. And I guess that
might be.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
My you know what I did.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Sorry, unless it's in your coffee or your cereal, but
if you're downing an entire giant glass of milk, sure,
I don't know how to feel.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
That's just me.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
That's just me. You drink milk of power to you.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
I'm just saying that is so valid. Okay, So that
was so one of the five because I f am,
thanks for hanging out, So thank you.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
So much for having appreciate it. I really appreciate you
coming in
