The pitching staff has a 1.35 ERA at this moment, and we are here for it. Ross Tucker, CBS Sports, Westwood One and More joins the show to give us a national look at the draft, and starts with his own experience. Is there concern moving a guy inside, tackle to guard? Ross fills us in. PORTAL UPDATE! DJ Davis is heading to Washington. Plus some college football news in LA.Steve Palazzolo, Pro Football Focus joins the show to give us the final preview of what the Seahawks might do tomorrow and through the next three days. He takes a good look at Ian's mock draft to grade him. Steve thinks drafting a quarterback each year is the way to go, regardless of what a team has. Where will the most value come with offensive linemen? Mike Holmgren, The Legend recalls his draft day experiences throughout his career and tells Ian how it applies to this day's way of things. (03:15):
fought to buy cores light frost brewedcrewers like Choose Chill Action Sports Bar and
Grill in Kent's East Hill and DeltaAirlines that's coming up at three o'clock today.
All right, we don't have aton of time to get to baseball.
My apologies. We'll get a littlebit more maybe at one o'clock today.
It's listen, I'm being honest. This is not your time of the

(03:35):
year, Mariners. Now is notthe time to be good. It should
have been two weeks ago and wecould have focused more on you guys.
But no, now you want tobe good. No, I kid,
Marriers are in first place or twelveand eleven last night, Yeah, they're
twelve and eleven. They're in firstplace in the American League West. As
my guy Nathan Bishop. Have youheard of Nathan Bishop. I'm not sure
if you have or not. Youknow, I feel like he's got an

(03:57):
mw in there, something little Mollywopsituation. Also a lot of other things.
Yes, I woke up this morningto a text from him, which
he tweeted later. Today is thefirst time the Mariners are in sole possession
of first place at the twenty threegame mark since two thousand and nine.
It's the last time they were atleast tied for the lead was twenty nineteen,

(04:20):
and as he pointed out, don'tlook at the rest of the year.
They might have won two games thatrest of the season at that point,
but two thousand and nine the lasttime they were in first place,
sole possession of first place. Twothousand and nine, sole possession of first
place after twenty three games. Yeah, I mean, what does it mean,
Baki? I hear you, JackEye, hear you. I know

(04:40):
it means nothing. You know whatit does mean something ut to some of
us because I can look at thestandings and see at twelve and eleven teen
and when we wake up from ourdraft slumber party over the next three days
four days including today, and theMariners are playing a home series this weekend,
and then they've got Arizona and thena big one against Atlanta. That's

(05:00):
tam cool. To be honest withyou, first place is fun. I
don't care if it's today tomorrow.Yes, you want to be in first
place at the end of the year. But you're there. Now. Here's
the thing. The other option is, you could be the Houston Astros at
seven and seventeen. You could bethe La Angels at ten and fourteen,
and it ain't going to get betterfor the Angels. It might get better
for Houston, it ain't getting betterfor the Angels. And I know it's

(05:24):
not always the be all to endall, but it feels like there's a
number out there that people always kindof look to to try to make a
point, whether it's positive or negative. That number is run differential and the
Ms, despite their massively slow start, inability to do much offensively except for
hit home runs. And sure thehome runs are fun. Chicksting long ball,

(05:44):
right, Jess, that's what theylike. They're plus seven and run
differential. I'll give you a little. The rest of the American League West
Rangers are plus six. Probably nota surprise that those two teams are sitting
there at the top minus sixteen orthe Angels minus thirty six. Of the
A's and Houston not only seven toseventeen, they're minus thirty three. They're

(06:06):
getting obliterated right now. I meanit just they've lost three straight games.
They're taking on Chicago. I justI don't. We've seen seven and seventeen,
we've seen nine and fifteen. Atthis point in time, this is
a cool thing. Don't diminish itat all. Don't take our fun away,

(06:27):
don't suck the life out of it. And Logan Gilbert continues to be
great. The pitching continues to begreat. He is now thirty one to
zero when the team scores at leastthree runs for him, never has lost
a game his decision at least whenthe Marriagers have scored three or more.
And just the pitching continues to belights out. Cal Rawley. Joe Sheen

(06:49):
may not think he's a superstar.I do. Joe knows more about baseball
than I do most a lot ofpeople do. I get that well.
He also said it in a comparativestands to Julio. So yes, I
think he's a star. Julio isa superstar. Julio. And what did
what did Julio do yesterday? Ourguy Joshian saying, Hey, I need

(07:13):
to see Julio hit the ball inthe air and get it out of the
ballpark. And Julio did just streamingour show. I think he was.
He was, he was, hewas our his inner self was going,
I need to listen to to JoeSheian and get the ball in the air
and elevate, and he did justthat and the Ems get to win.
Uh. It's it's it's a funteam that it's a fun team in this
sense every night. And we thoughtthis going into the season, and there

(07:34):
were a couple of times, especiallywith Castillo at the start of the season,
it didn't. It was kind ofa little disappointing. But it feels
like every single night you have achance to win a game because you're pitching.
It's just better. It's just it'sjust it's better than anybody else.
And that's an awesome thing. That'san awesome, great deal that they have

(07:56):
right now Texas tonight, and Imentioned it like like the kind of get
a little bit a little bit lostin the wash over the next few days
because we have a little thing calledthe draft coming up. They have a
day game tomorrow and then a nightgame coming up on Friday. But Bryce
Miller goes against John Gray tonight.Bryce Miller has been I mean, lights
out good. Got a sub toEer at one point eight five as well.

(08:22):
Mems are six and one. They'vewon six of their last seven games.
They're eight and three over their lasteleven. This was all after it
looked like it was kind of like, oh God, here we go again
type of thing. And for thosewho didn't like the fact that we were
saying here we go again, Iwould point out to the past history gave
us reason to say here we goagain, because that's kind of how it
has been over the years. Butthey've got the sambase percentages climbing there at

(08:43):
three seventy nine since April fifteenth, which is number one of the major leagues.
And it's not with hits as muchas anything. They're they're controlling the
zone like they want to do.They're getting on base or walking, they're
finding a way to get on andthey're doing all those things. They're also
looking with a win either today ortomorrow, to have their third straight series
win. And it's awesome because thisis a team that lost its first five
or whatever was series, right,so they couldn't even win a series.

(09:05):
So now they're turning around pitching staffa one three five er. Think about
that, that's the entire staff onethree five ERA, just fifteen earned runs
given up in their last one hundredinnings and just twenty walks in and one
hundred and five strikeouts in those lastone hundred innings. Not only are they

(09:26):
controlling the other team's offense with strikeoutsand outs, they're not putting anybody on
base either. So tonight hopefully theycan keep it going good for the MS.
I like first place Mariner baseball. It kind of is fun. And
if they win this series, andif they're not going to say those two
words when we're talking right, thenegativity, we won't say it with the
positivity. No, I'm just goingto tell you this. I like seeing

(09:48):
a team in first place. Idon't care what time of the year it
is. And if it's sustainable, great, If not as fine, but
at least we can have some fun. And you know, when the dust
s. That helps from the NFLdraft, refocusing on Saturday and Sunday and
see where this team is. Buttwelve and eleven is good and we get
to see kill Nick. Yes wedo. Okay, let's do this.
We'll take a break. We gota guy Ross Talkers coming up in just

(10:09):
a minute. CBS Sports, Westwoodone, all Things football. We'll get
his thoughts on the NFL Draft, what to look forward to, what he's
looking forward to, the storylines he'scovering. Get his thoughts on the Seattle
Seahawks, Mike McDonald much more. It's Ross Talker coming up next ninety three
point three KJRFM. Now back tothe inf Neest Show, brought to you

(10:41):
by Snow Call Me Casino. NFLDraft begins tomorrow. We get to it.
All the conversations can come to anend. We actually see some action,
some action tomorrow. Can't wait.Mike Holmber will join us coming up
at two o'clock today as we visitwith Coach's been a while since we had

(11:03):
a chance to talk to him,our weekly visits with him in this fall.
Obviously, he gets together with usa little bit during the spring and
offseason as well. He'll join uscoming up at two. Steve Pelosolo Pro
Football Focus at one twenty today, but joining us right now on the Beacon
Pumbing Hotline. Seven years in theNational Football League. They probably have a
statue for him on the campus atis alma mater at Princeton University. As

(11:26):
well. He hosts the Ross TuckerFootball podcast. You also hear him on
CBS Westwood One, which we ofcourse carry right here on our radio station
on KJR. Welcome back to KJR, Ross Tucker, how are you.
I'm doing awesome. No statue, unfortunately, But I think five years ago

(11:48):
they named me to the one hundredand fiftieth Anniversary All Time Team. Good
because Princeton. Princeton played Rutgers inthe first college football game ever in eighteen
sixty nine. And I feel likethat sounds pretty good, like one hundred
and fiftieth Anniversary team, but thatthat's a long time. That sounds like

(12:09):
a like that might be my coolestaccomplishment. Actually, you've got a lot.
I mean just the first of all, you went to Princeton. I
would put that at number one. It's kind of all after that. I
mean, not you played in theNFL, that's great, but you went
to Princeton. Man, Like Iwent to the Princeton of the Northwest is
Washington State University. That's the that'sthe prince That's the Ivy League of the
Northwest. But I mean you actuallywent to an Ivy League school. That's

(12:30):
that's a big deal, my friend. Yeah, I feel like, well,
I'm glad that you feel honored tohave someone that went to the finest
institution of higher learning in America onyour show. I'm gifting you guys to
fifteen minutes. You know what's sofunny. I have a lot of things
like off the outside of media, including a recruiting business right for high school

(12:54):
athletes. And you know, anytimea kid like has Ivy League opportunities,
probably in particular hard Princeton Yale,I always say the same thing. I'm
like, just say, you know, dude, you're not making a four
year decision, You're making a fortyyear decision. And I'm not even that
smart. But every time I saysomething because I went to Princeton, people
think it sounds smarts. It's reallyan amazing thing. It's I don't think

(13:18):
I even knew. I think Iwent to Princeton because I didn't have like
the Power five offers, and Ithought, I'll never make the NFL if
I can go to Princeton Harvard,I need to do that for a job.
So I went there for a job, but I didn't realize how much
it frames so many of the conversationsin your life. It's like, for

(13:39):
me, it's what a lot ofpeople know. Like if you ask someone,
hey, tell me about Ross,They're like, yeh yeah, when
we're NFL player Princeton guy, right, you know, or it's just even
what you just said, right,Like my best accomplishment is just it's fascinating
how long that stays with you andhow significant an aspect it is of what
people think of me. Ross talkerswas I'm going to give our listeners little

(14:01):
heads up at the end of ourconversation day with Ross, We're going to
help you perhaps get your Mother's Daygifts handled all right, So I'll just
say he's gonna Ross is gonna walkyou down how you can take care of
Mother's Day. We'll do that atthe end of the segment today. And
maybe that's a public service that we'regoing to provide for you guys listening today
here. I love it. Ninetythree point three KJIFM. You were not
drafted, but you were signed asan undrafted free agent seven years in the

(14:24):
NFL. Did you do you rememberthat that weekend? Did you get to
like back then it was probably twodays, right, it was a Sunday,
I'm assuming did you think there wasa chance you'd get a call that
day. How was that for you. I'm glad you're teeming me up on
this so because it comes back tothe Seahawks, believe it or not,
but I was. It was twothousand and one, and it was a

(14:46):
Saturday and Sunday. I think thefirst three rounds were Saturday and no second
four rounds were Sunday or something likethat, right, And my parents had
just gotten me my first cell phonefor my birthday the month before, so
I had a cell phone, andI had my dorm number dorm phone,

(15:09):
and I just watched the entire draftin my dorm room with my roommates coming
in and out or whatever. AndI only ever got called by one team,
and it was the Cincinnati Bengals, and they called me twice. And
what was funny about that is theydidn't have a single winning season in the

(15:30):
nineties. They were considered by farthe worst team to go to, the
worst franchise to go to. Theycalled me in the first round ian and
when I answered the phone, Iwas like, I'm right, I'm ready
to be a first round was outAnd then they called and all they did
was they called me in the firstround, just to tell me, hey,

(15:52):
we have your rank pretty high ifyou don't get drafted for a free
agent. And they called me thenext day. So here's what's interesting.
My agent was a guy named Joelinta great guy. He told me I
was fifty to fifty whether I wouldeven get signed, not whether I would
get drafted or not, whether Ieven be signed as an undrafted free agent.

(16:15):
So all of my roommates second semesterof college were like going out till
three am every night because it's senioryear. Second semester, I was getting
up at five am training for youknow, Combine and pro dain and all
not combine, just prodein and allthat stuff. And it's like an hour
after the draft and I still haven'theard anything. And at this point I'm

(16:41):
starving. So I walk out oncampus. I walk up to Princeton.
It's a littly unique they have. It's called eating clubs. Picture like a
whole street of mansions that are likefraternities and sororities combined into one. You
have all your meals there and allthe parties are there, but nobody really

(17:02):
lives there. It's unique to Princeton. Right, So I'm starving as I
walk out and there's a cookout andeverybody's got beers and they're all drinking,
you know, and eating burgers. And I went out there and I I
was starving, and I couldn't evenlook anybody in the eye. I couldn't
look my friends in the eye.I couldn't. I got a hot dog

(17:25):
and like thought I was hungry, but couldn't really eat it. I thought
I had just wasted my whole secondsemester. Finally, I just walked back
to my dorm room. As I'mwalking up the steps, I hear the
phone ringing in the door. SoI just like pre cell phone, So
I go running up the steps.I grabbed the phone. I'm like hello,

(17:45):
and it's my agent, Joe Linta. I'm like hello. He's like
ross, I said, yay.He said, where have you been?
I said, well, you said, If I the longer it took for
you to call me, the worstsign it would be. So I was
hungry. I went to get tomeat. He's like, well, congratulations,
you're the newest member of the WashingtonRedskins. And I thought, oh

(18:07):
my gosh, are you serious? And he told me, and I was
so excited. I immediately I intwo things that are noteworth I immediately sprinted
back out to the eating yea inmy foot flops. And now all my
I came bursting out the doors intothe courtyard and into the back cory where
everybody was, and I saw mybuddies and I just said redskins, and

(18:33):
they're all, you know, footballplayers at Princeton, but not NFL type,
and we all jumped up and downand it was like, I'm getting
chills and my eyes are filling upjust telling you this story right now,
and what's really interesting? So thatwas just amazing, right, just unbelievably
amazing. My dad five to nineof bucks sixty five. I went to

(18:53):
Princeton and I was going to geta chance in the NFL, and then
I ended up making team because MartySchottenheimer liked me, and the head of
personnel twenty eight or twenty nine yearold John Schneider, Wow, really liked
me. Wow, Marty. Idon't know Marty had hired Schneider before the

(19:14):
draft or after the draft, Ihonestly don't remember, but Schneider was the
head personnel guy in his twenties.Wow. Now, Marty had final say.
But Schneider was the head of personnelguy in his twenties, and I
remember meeting him and he said, you're doing a great job. Keep up
the great work, and so like, I have John's number in myself in

(19:34):
my phone, and yeah, Ithink I probably reached out to him once
or twice. But if I seehim at a game, I talk to
him. And so I'm drilled forthe success he's had. And I knew
him when he was like they calledhim boy Wonder, and that's how he
got the job. I don't know, like he must have. He must
have nailed a lot of guys inthe nineties because that's how Shottenheimer heard about

(19:55):
him and hired him. Yeah,we're gonna find out boy Wonder what he's
like this now without Pete Carroll. But you know his his reputation is strong.
You know that around the league.Did he call you brother, by
the way, Hey brother, Heybrother. That's how I mean. He
talks like he's like he's like almostlike he's a whole Cogan. Hey brother,
hey brother. Uh, we lovewe love Schneira. I think he
does. Yes, he's great.Uh it is Ross Tucker joining us here

(20:18):
on the Beacon Plumbing hot line.I did laugh at your you had a
tweet, and we all need sarcasmtweets, right, Uh, like some
sort of like little little thing alongthe way. Someone's trading up, someone's
trading down. At this point, you've talked to a million people, You've
done these types of shows all acrossthe country. I know you just talked
to our buddy, great Cosel, who joins us every week as well.

(20:38):
Are you just ready for this thingto get going? What? What?
What? What? Where? Where'syour mind at right now as we're here
on Draft Eve. Well, youknow what's interesting about it to me is
I do think when we get thisclose like we are now, that it
feels like to me, more andmore real and information comes out. It's

(21:02):
been a lot of bs, youknow, in other in the in the
days leading up, but now we'reactually getting some real info that I kind
of believe in terms of how manyquarterbacks go in the first round and what
teams are trying to trade up forone, what team are trying to Now
it's not all real, obviously, but a lot of it I think is

(21:23):
is I think there's more truth, more fact and fiction coming out right now,
which is interesting too, because I'veseen multiple reports of the Eagles,
the team that I, you know, work for and I do their Eagles
preseason games. See a lot ofreports of the Eagles looking to trade up,

(21:44):
and there's a lot of talk aboutthe Seahawks trading down, which would
not surprise me because of John Schneider'sconfidence in his ability to find good players
and the fact that they don't havea second round pick. So who knows,
maybe you know, I can totallysee the Eagles wanting one of like

(22:04):
five players and they're there at sixteen, and so they move up from twenty
two to sixteen, and Schneider movesdown to twenty two, still gets a
really good player for the Seahawks, but then picks up the second rounder because
the Eagles have two of them. That makes a lot of sense to me.
Ross Tucker joining us, I'm curiousyour thoughts if I'm not mistaken.

(22:26):
Your career ended with a neck injury, right, yes, okay, And
unfortunately we know that all too wellout here in Seattle. Cam Chancellor,
that was what ended his career,Cliff Avril, and in his career Chris
Carson, same thing. So obviouslyand that's no joke. That type of
injury. You know, acls areone thing next or a completely different deal.

(22:48):
I bring that up for this reason. A guy that I think is
it fits what Seattle would look for. We know him because he was at
Washington and then he failed a physicalwith the Huskies, ends up going and
have an incredible career with you knowversus with UCLA. Lay out to a
lot to the pass rusher, theedge rusher from UCLA. I know you
talked about him with Coseel. Letme ask you from the perspective of a

(23:08):
alignment what you see from him,But be also how concerned or would you
have any concern at all about thatprevious neck injury. Well, I would
definitely have concern about the neck injury, definitely. I can remember news came
out about Leyton vander Esh's neck whenI was at the draft in Dallas that

(23:30):
year and I was talking with lateinterviewing him the day before the draft,
and he was pretty upset that theninformation came out and he said he had
no idea what they were talking aboutand that it was somebody just trying to
have him fall in the draft orwhatever. Well, it turns out you
know, he had a couple ofneck injuries in the NFL, and he

(23:53):
just retired after six years because ofhis neck. You know. I can
remember I hurt my neck on thewedge four man wedge against the Ravens and
I heard any of my C five, C six bruise my spinal cord and
you're so right in And I forgotthere was that many guys for the Seahawks

(24:14):
that have had neck issues over theyears. But I remember asking Washington's neck
and spine surgeon and doctor. Hesaid he did some tests in my hands
and feet with my toes and fingersthat showed that my spinal cord was bruised.
And I said, well, whatdoes that mean? What do you
think? He said, I thinkyou're twenty eight and you went to Princeton

(24:37):
and you should get a real job. And I was Actually, it was
a really weird feeling because I don'tknow how to describe it, but like
in an instant, I both lostmy identity but got clarity. Yeah,
because I would have tried into playforever. I would have tried to play

(25:00):
every year, you know, untilthe wheels fall off. So I needed
someone to say that to me.I needed a doctor to say that.
But then you know, you know, there's always those guys who are like,
you know, football's just what Ido, it's not who I am,
and like they go out of theirway to tell you all the other
things they've got going. Well, that was not me. I mean,
I loved being Ross Tucker the footballplayer since I was, you know,

(25:22):
ten years old. That was myidentity. So that was really really difficult.
But I say all that to say, you know, it's not an
injury that they're gonna let you pushthrough or play through. You know.
I don't know if you follow ProFootball Doc or Sports Injurycentral dot com with
doctor Chow the former Chargers team orthe kid exsurgeon, but it sounds like

(25:47):
Latu has already had a fusion andthat you can't you can't have two of
those. So the issue is ifhe has any type of neck issue.
Again, it's you know, forme, they told me you could try
a fusion and see if that worked. I was like, no, I'm
done. You know, once yourfinal cords bruised, I'm done. So

(26:11):
it's a shame for lat two.But he just played very well in the
last couple of years, so Ido think a team that is in win
now mode and is not as concernedabout the long term will draft him in
the first round. But the concernis like can he be a ten year

(26:33):
guy or you know, even asecond contract guy. But there will be
people that say, listen, Idon't really care. He's the best pass
rusher in the draft this year.If we're not good this year, I'm
gonna get fired. I'm taking him. It is a win now league,
and I mean, I think there'sthere's a I think probably two thurs of
league probably thinks they're gonna win rightnow. That's I know. That's how
they think here in Seattle, evenwith San Francisco in this division, with

(26:56):
the Rams a playoff team last year, with the Cardinals maybe seemingly on the
rise, that's how they feel.Ross Tucker joining us here on the Beacon
Plumbing hotline, Russ the allegedly whatwe hear the rumors is the draftnicks are
telling us it's a very deep draftfor offensive linemen tackle specifically, and a
lot of tackles that you know, project to perhaps move inside. No better

(27:18):
person to ask you than this, they ask than you moving a tackle inside
to guard how are you ever concernedabout that? I'm like, if you
have guard or tackle tape, yousee what a guy's like as a tackle,
do you. Is it just aforegone conclusion you can move a guy
inside or is there a risk ifyou take a tackle a guy who's played
tackle exclusively in college and you flipthem inside. There's absolutely a risk,

(27:42):
And don't let anybody ever tell youdifferently. There's absolutely a risk. Now,
there have been a number of guysthat have done it with tremendous success,
right Joel Buttonio for the Browns,Zach Martin for the Cowboys, Brandon
Sheriff in Washington and Jacksonville. Soit seems to me like there's more success

(28:06):
when you take a college tackle andtry to make him a guard. But
I was part of multiple years wherethe team tried to take a veteran tackle
and make him a guard and itdid not go well. One time was
Washington two thousand and two. Theysigned Rod Jones, the left tackle from

(28:29):
the Rams, put him at guardand it just was not was not a
good fit. You know, thingshappened so much faster inside in terms of
the stunts, the linebacker blitzes andtackled, you know, two thousand and
seven, same thing. I wasback in Washington and it was Todd Wade,

(28:51):
and both of those guys really struggledat guard. Neither guy was able
to start in both instances, youknow, the Washington franchise had to go
get a real guard. So Ican speak from experience, not any every
tackle can play guard. Feels likeit goes better for the college tackles you
move to guard as opposed to onethe guy has already been in the league

(29:15):
at tackle for a couple of years. So like a guy Fatanu from Washington,
people, you know, obviously becausethe connection here, excited about him
and his prospects. It seems likehe's a guy they're projecting as a guard,
although he was a really I mean, you know, one of the
best tackles in the country the lastcouple of years, one of the best
offensive lines in the country. Youknow, he may end up being greatly
successful, and if somebody moves himinside, he could still also be successful

(29:36):
as a right tackle. And hell, apparently right tackles get paid right Penny
sewel right, So I guess Ijust asked that for that reason, because
it's sometimes we make assumptions that someone'sgoing to just easily slide in somewhere,
and maybe that's not always the case. Well, and let me say this,
he's an awesome player. Like Iwatched him, he is awesome and
I don't care that he's six'four and not six sixty sixty seven.

(29:57):
He has long arm and great seat. I think you're really making a mistake
if you don't try him at offensivetackle first, and if it doesn't work
out, then move him into garbage. I think he can be a very
good offensive tackle in the NFL.Ross tell us about my front page story

it's on the cover of the newspaper, framed with pictures. The picture your

mom on the cover of newspaper, pictures of her and her kids or her
grandkids or both. And I'm justtelling you, like when she read to
quote from my sister that my sisterwouldn't be the woman she is today if
it weren't for my mom, mymom just sort of crying. In fact,
like I think almost most moms,I think cry when they read these
stories. It's just kind of anemotional thing. So listen, I know

(31:26):
that much. And like moms areeverybody's first round pick. There aren't very
many moms that are a bust. There had the whole other conversation. That's
very unfortunate. But moms are firstround picks. Get them a first round

we do. We headed the portalevery day at twelve forty five. Why
don't you buy Bowen Scarf Ford inKent. Bowenscarf dot com is the website.

They got the big BEECU credit unionsale going on this weekend. Make
sure you check it out at BowenScarf Ford in Kent, right across from
Carponito Brothers down there in beautiful downtownKent, Washington. You know, just
a stone's throw by the way fromwhere the boys are going to be today
if the Action Sports Bar and grillingKent as well. Big Kent's got a
lot going on, got a lotgoing on, all right. Here's our
portal update for the day today.Washington basketball has got a commitment at court

(33:00):
on three dot com from former Butlerand former UC Irvine guard DJ Davis.
He's a six to two senior.I'm assuming he's just got the one year
of eligibility left because he's played threeyears at UC Irvine and a year at
Butler, so that would be four. This will be his fifth year,
so I'm sure COVID you're stuck inthere somehow. So DJ Davis is a

(33:22):
guard. He averaged thirteen and ahalf points, three point two rebounds,
two point six assists per game.A six to two senior veteran guard DJ
Davis sounds like a good pickup forDanny Sprinkle and the University of Washington basketball
program. So there you go,a little good news in the portal for
Husky fans. Also, this oneI find just hilarious. This one night.

(33:45):
I find this one hilarious. FormerUSC wide receiver Kyle Ford last season
was at UCLA, so USC Uclain the portal heading back to USC six

(34:07):
two six three two and twenty poundwide receiver. I remember him, Kyle
Ford. Yeah, one year ofellegebuilder Ruff says, quote my fault,
I was tripping. I'm now committed. You know what. That's some straight
honesty. That is just some straighthonest I think think what it does.
It just speaks to the level ofstupidity that we're in in this world right

(34:27):
now with college athletics you're in andnow you're I mean, you went across
town to your biggest rival for oneyear and Nellison in Kyle in Kyle Ford's
defense, it makes he went there. It was Chip Kelly whatever. Kelly
leaves. So you go and andyou know, you go back. So

(34:50):
you go back to Lincoln Riley whowould have been there before. And Lincoln
Riley says, yeah, man, come on back. So he's going back.
That's just that's recruiting. Oh,it's just it's just what a world,
man, What an absolute crazy worldwe are right now. And so
yeah, that's that's the latest fromthe transfer portal. We can I think
that's good enough for now. Idon't need that. Let's talk about Mark

(35:13):
Sears, what he might do withCrimson Tie and others. Grant Nelson,
so we'll keep an eye on that. In college basketball, college basketball,
it is just it's it's crazy rightnow. The football transfer portal again closes
next Wednesday, week from today,so open for seven more days. You're
on portal duty on Saturday, bythe way, when you're in Pullman,
So I expect you to have afull report on portal day. Oh.
I will have eyes and boots onthe ground in Who's I don't even know

(35:35):
who plays for that team anymore anyway, but yeah, you tell me we'll
get an update from you on onMonday. I'll get up n Matteir.
Yes, your your portal. Youcan do the portal update on Monday for
the radio show Jess along those lines. So okay, I got you four

it's game time and it's Tully time, you can fire off your thoughts,
questions, comments and concerns. Alsolove to hear your voices as always on

(35:58):
the talk back. Go to theeye Heart radio app the little red microphone
gets some thoughts interesting stuff from RossTalker. Seven years in the NFL and
Ross was an offensive lineman in thein the National Football League. Two things
jump out, And I remember yesterdayI was listening to Dick and and Softy
talk about lat too, and heis by all accounts, and we've talked

(36:20):
about him with Cosell and others,he is. He is the best pass
rusher right now, the most polishedpass rusher in the NFL draft. But
that neck injury. He passed everything. But like Ross said, he goes
he had a fusion like that thatyou can't do that again. Is there
a risk? I don't know.I tended to lean with what Ross said

(36:43):
in this regard NFL teams don't thinkabout tomorrow. They don't think about they
don't think about two or three yearsdown the road. And I'll be honest
with you, if there's any teamthat doesn't think that way, it's this
organization. At least it has beenunder Schneider and Carroll. Again, we're
all kind of working under thessumn thatthings will be somewhat similar with John Schneider
running the show. But we don'tknow. But they just don't sign.

(37:05):
I'm gonna go through it the nextsegment. They don't re sign their picks
all that often. It just doesn't. It just gets the most out of
them. That they're cheapest. Youjust point, yeah, it's and I'm
not saying that that organization is cheap. They get the most out of the
players. Well, they are atleast expensive, right right, right,
Yeah, I mean I I That'sthe thing that kind of jumps out at
me is that these guys, youknow, they don't think in terms of

(37:28):
seven eight years down the road. They think about you know, winning today.
Understand this, and I mentioned thiswith Greg bell we in our crosstalk
earlier. Do not ever be fooledinto thinking that the Seattle Seahawks are thinking
about developing young talent and worrying abouttwo or three years. They want to
win right now. Mike McDonald hada chance probably to go do couple different
things this season. He came herebecause it's not a rebuild. It's because

(37:51):
they already have a good core inplace. They need to act And I
am I have to say this overand over again. They have a lot
of holes. We know that theyhave a lot of holes on that roster
right now, but they also feellike they can win right away. That's
how they operate. They and thisis from right on the think I think
Greg Greg said it, Well, they won nine games last year, guys,

(38:13):
they won nine games, Like thisis not a bad football team.
There's a team that somehow straight bybecause there's enough talent out there and so
they're not faking down the road.So a lot two would make sense in
some ways for them, because listen, is he gonna have a ten year
career? Maybe not. But asas cruel and kind of crass and and

(38:36):
and cold as it sounds, theydon't care. That's the way the business
is built though. That's one hundredpercent how it's all right, we'll come
back. I'll kind of give youan example of what they've done over the
years with not bringing guys back forsecond contracts. We'll do that next ninety

Steve Palazolo, PFF, Pro Footballfocus, PFF dot com. He is here

(41:23):
on draft Eve. My friend,How are you doing? My friend?
What's going on? Doing great?Get excited? We are We're very close
at the draft night always always agood time. Should also check in.
I was getting text from Steve lastweek. It sounds like the trip to
the chili in Cincinnati was a hitwith the youngins. Not you went chicken

(41:45):
fingers or whatever chicken strips, Iguess, but it was a hit.
I saw, I saw the wholegroup there. He looked like you had
your hands full. Friend. Ohyeah. The four kids love it.
They love to just get this,to get a little kid spaghetti with the
monster cheese, and the act ccidentallyupgraded him to like a bigger size.
So it was great. The kidfor a nice and pull and enjoyed their

(42:05):
skyline chili strip. I love it. I love that other great picture.
That was awesome. All right, let's get to it. Let me let
me go through a couple different thingsand we get to the I did a
Seahawks mock draft cursy at PF PFFthe mock simulator, their draft simulators.
There's a ton of funnel on theway, and I get your thoughts on
some of the guys that I pickedalong the way before I get to that
point. As we sit here ondraft eve, what are the big storylines

(42:28):
that you just are are you can'twait for five o'clock or I guess eight
o'clock your time tomorrow, right,What's what are you most excited to see
take place tomorrow? What do youis the quarterbacks? Is something else?
No, it's always the qbs.First. Where are they gonna where they're
gonna land, whether what's their landingspot? Is Washington really gonna go Jayden
Daniels because I'm a big Drake Mayfan, and I always thought Drake May

(42:50):
would be the pick at too, even when the buzz was going the other
way. So how do those topguys land? I think from a storyline
perspective, the Broncos are just fascinatingsitting there at twelve with Jared Stidham as
the starter and all the dead tapmoney from Russ and Sean Payton as the
head coach. I just think thatwhole dynamic is fascinating because they'd have to
leap frog a few teams. Theydon't have as much draft capital because they

(43:12):
don't have a two because they gaveit to the Saints for Sean Payton.
So I think what the Broncos aregoing to do is really interesting. And
then the receivers, right, myweak neighbors and Marvin Harrison Junior and where
they land, and you know alot of rumors of teams moving up and
trying to go get their blue chipplayer that's not a quarterback. So yeah,
I just can't wait to just sitthere in real time and watch it

(43:32):
and react to it. It's alot of fun every year. You personally,
if you were ranked the quarterbacks onethrough six, Steve and I'm just
just that first tier of quarterbacks thatare day one, maybe early day two,
depending on whose slips. Assuming CalebWilliams is number one, I'm assuming
that is the case with you likeeverybody. But would how is Steve Palazzolo

(43:54):
ranked the quarterbacks one through six?Yeah, I'd go Caleb Williams, Drake
May number two for me, JadenDaniels number three. I think that's probably
a tier. I'm Caleb Williams hisown tier, then maybe May and Daniels
at two and three, and thenthe next tier. I think it's closer
of some level of J. J. McCarthy, Michael Pennix, and then

(44:15):
Bo Nicks. Is Nick number sixmight be closer to the top. Yeah,
I think mix the steps. Yeah, Yeah, I get him.
I get how people could like him, and I think he could be good.
I just don't know if I wantto be the team that finds out,
I guess is how I look atbone neck. We talked about quarterbacks
so long ago. Before I moveon to my fantastic Seahawks mock draft,

(44:37):
which by the way, got tobe COURSI at PFF. Before I get
to that, just one final thoughtfrom you on Michael Pennix. Yeah,
I mean, I think, look, there are definitely people around the league
who really like Michael Pennix and thisthat story is finally hitting the airwaves so
to speak, this week, thatthere are teams that value Michael Pennock in

(44:59):
the top half of the first round. I think the injury concerns are valid,
even though he's been healthy the lastcouple of years. I think he's
got an excellent arm, you know, loves to just throw lasers outside of
the numbers, you know, fantastic. I think some of the questions are
how does he create outside of structureand when you know, under pressure and
everything. I thought he answered alot of those against Texas. And my
final take is, really I ifTexas made the comeback, Michael Penis Junior

(45:22):
is going in the top half ofthe first round. In other words,
if Washington lost that game and didn'tplay Michigan in the finals. Penix's stock
is higher, but because he wentand played Michigan and had, you know,
his worst game of the season,it dropped him a little bit.
So look, I think he's Ithink he's worth taking a shot on in
the first round if you really needa quarterback, even though he's probably,
you know, to me, atier below the Drake Mays and Jayden Daniels

(45:45):
of the world. All right, you're ready for the the Ian Fernes Seahawks
Mock Draft one rounds one through sevencourtesy of the PFF Draft Simulator. Yeah,
let's do it, okay, AndI didn't do any trades. You
can do trades. If you guysare into it, man, go do
it. You can. The waythis simulator works at PFF dot com,

(46:06):
it's crazy you can do trades, but they make it fun. I was
only a couple cups of coffee intothe day and I had to go do
a hockey show. So I'll behonest with you, I didn't have the
energy quite to do the trades.I kind of wanted just to play it
straight up, so I kept sixteenthpick overall round one and I went with
you call him Johnny, Johnny NewtonJason Newton from Illinois defensive lineman. What

(46:28):
do you think. I like Newtona lot. I mean, I don't
know if he ends up going midfirst or late first, but when I
was watching him, Byron Murphy, the other top defensive tackle in Texas,
is getting some top ten type ofhype. I think there's similar players as
far as value. I mean, not exact players, but I think both
should be valued as first round players. Newton's a disruptor, is a very

(46:49):
good path rusher. He's so quick. He moved around the defensive line a
little bit for Illinois. So Iknow the NFL a lot of people are
talking about the money that defensive tackleshave just made over this last offseason and
the last two off seasons. Really, I don't know that that's the nature
of the position so to speak.I think a lot of good players just
hit the market at the same time. But either way, getting a first

(47:10):
contract defensive tackle is a value intoday's market. So I think the idea
of having a Johnny Newton or aByron Murphy makes a lot of sense for
a lot of teams. And Ithink Newton's just a nice interior disruptor.
To add to the mix. Good. So it sounds like you like that.
Okay, Murphy was gone, bythe way, if people wondering,
and so Murphy was gone. Lastwipe took Newton round three, pick eighty

(47:31):
one. I went positional need forSeattle with the guy that was available,
and I went the safety from uscKaalen Bullock. By the way, I
got an as I got an aminus grade from PFF on the computers.
But I went Kaylen Bullock for asafety at pick eighty one, round three.
So he's exactly eighty two on theconsensus board, So right around where

(47:53):
all the accumulation of all the variousdraft boards would have a Kaylan Bullock.
I think it's a solid pick.I think he's got free safety type of
skills one some of the best,I would say, just pure playmaking type
of skills. You know for safety. In this draft class, there's a
lot of box safety types that's notreally Bullocks game. So I think he's

(48:13):
going to add some versatility from acoverage standpoint. And if you draft a
good coverage player, anybody that affectsthe pass game, that's probably going to
give you a good grade in thein the PFF mock draft simulator. So's
that's why you got that a mind? Yes, sir, huh how about
that? Didn't see a lot ofa minus is on the last few report
cards back in the day. ButI'll take that any day. Okay.
Next up we go to round four, pick one oh two. And this

(48:35):
is what I'm really curious to getyour thoughts on this one, because I
kind of like this when I sawhim available, because I think you and
I have talked about him. Iknow Cosell and Great Coselle and I have
talked about him. I believe ourother guy, Rob rang and I have
talked about him as well. Andhe was there sitting at pick one oh
two round four out of Tulane.I took quarterback Michael Pratt quarterback in the
future. Perhaps, what do youthink? I think drafting quarterbacks every year

(48:58):
makes a lot of sense. Idon't care what you have on the roster,
you know, drafting a guy atyou know, round four, at
pick one oh two makes a lotof sense. I think Pratt is probably
QB eight, right. So you'vegot the big six that we talked about
earlier. Then you have Spencer Rattler, and then Michael Pratt, and I
think absolutely if you can get himin round four, that makes a lot
of sense. I think he's gotyou know, he's got a good arm.

(49:20):
I think he's got some development todo as far as vision goes and
see in the field. I thinkhe's a very good developmental quarterback prospect.
And I would take I will takea developmental quarterback prospect around round four or
five, whatever it might be,every single year. So I love that
as a as a mid round off. I could have gone and maybe took
a little bit of a reach andgone after Milton, but I was at

(49:44):
round four. It just Pratt seemedto make more sense. Milton, I
think is going to drop a littlebit lower, isn't he. I think
so. Yeah. I like Pratt. I like Pratt better. You know,
again, there are tiers to thequarterback thing. I think Pratt's clearly
in the top eight as far asquarterbacks, and then a drop off as
far as the rest of the guysthat are going to be more like round
six and seven type of guys thatwould be, by the way, the

(50:06):
second pick. I believe on Daythree it's gonna be an early pick for
the Seahawks if they indeed keep thatpick round four, pick one h two
overall of my end. So MichaelPratt, all right, this one.
I was thrilled with that he wasstill there and it popped up and again
the way it works is it picksautomatically for the teams that you don't select.
And I look down and maybe, and this is based on all the
information you guys loaded into your computersthere, I think maybe there was an

(50:29):
issue because the off the field stuff. I looked up and sitting there at
pick one eighteen, I had theability to take out of Texas Deveandre Sweat
the defensive lineman. Thoughts. Yeah, So as as general manager here,
Ian, you're going to have toyou know, I've heard this described before.
You're going to have to, youknow, explain this one away.
Yeah, at the press conference, right, you're gonna have to answer some

(50:50):
tough questions on DUI a couple ofweeks ago, right, yeah, and
general off field and maturity concerns. But you're going to get up to the
podium and say, well, here'shere's why we did it. Right.
The dude three hundred and sixty poundsand he moves well for a three hundred
three hundred and sixty pounder and hedidn't just play nose tackle of Texas.
But he is a run game wreckerup front, and that's what you're that's

(51:14):
what you're playing for, you know, in the fourth round. Look,
there's not a lot of hits inthe fourth round generally, and so if
you got to stretch a little biton a character concern, you do it
on a player that's got second roundvalue. And that's what Devandre Sweat is,
a guy that talent wise should bea second round player, right,
a plug and play run stuffer whocould push the pocket. So I like
that, you know, as faras if you can, if you can

(51:36):
answer those questions, if you canhandle that, get him in the locker
room, get him around some goodpeople and have them have them help him
out. Andre Sweat a massive upsidefor a fourth round player because he's a
very good player, very disruptive, three hundred and sixty pounds. Love what
he could do in the run game. And then if you do get a
good five hundred snaps the season outof him as a fourth round pick,
and then you've got to steal doyou think do you think that? I

(51:58):
mean, obviously, the way Idon't. I don't how your computers worked,
but I mean the fact that he'syou said it, he's a second
round talent. I think when wetalked about him a couple of weeks ago
or a few weeks ago, threed UI, we're all assuming that he's
probably gonna be in at worst anearly day too. Guy. Right,
So the DUI concerned before he hadvisits obviously has is a red flag.
It's it's not Jalen Carter red flag. There wasn't a horrible, horrific tragedy

(52:23):
involved, but that is a redflag with sweat. Do you think that's
why he's gonna drop down to daythree? Yeah, So he's been I
use NFL mock draft database dot comthat has a consensus board, right,
it's you know, it takes allthe different draft boards into consideration. It's
got Sweat down at seventy seven now. But he's been as high as you
know in the in the thirties andthe forties, you know, pretty recently.

(52:46):
So yeah, I think I thinkwe we threw a little adjustment into
the mock draft sim so that hewould drop as well. Plus there's just
some variance anyway. Dwan Jones wasthe guy last year, right, it
was a fringe first round tackle. The Browns end up getting him in the
fourth and he becomes a starter andhe's been fine. That becomes a steal.
I mean, that's what you're lookingfor with Devandre Sweat. If he's
available on the fourth round. Yougotta trust your interview, if you met

(53:08):
with him, and you got totrust you know, I guess probably a
lot of different things. It's yeah, that comes into play, all right.
Round we dropped down nothing in roundfive. We have a couple of
picks in round six, round six. I finally I finally started dressing a
massive need and that would be withpick one seventy nine in round six out
of Arkansas six five three oh seven. I like those measurables. He's an

(53:30):
offensive lineman, bowl Limmer, andI believe he projects as a center,
but it looks like he could playon the inside of guard as well.
But I went Bowl Limmer Arkansas picknumber I mean, my sixth round pick,
pick number one seventy nine. Thoughtson him, Yeah, so Bolimmer.
He's got played a little guard atArkansas. He can move people in

(53:50):
the run game, doesn't have agreat pass blocking profile. But I'll give
you a little tip and a littlehint here I've got I do my own
little draft model, got some prettygood results historically, O Limmer. If
you see if you're if you're ablue in my draft model, I mean
you're you're picking those guys. Thehit rate on blues is just through the
roof compared to the league average. And he is like one of the handful

(54:10):
of blue players available on Day threefor me. So you picked a good
it's a good pick. So Ithink he's got starting potential and again profiles
really well at at at the nextlevel, is at one twenty six on
the consensus board. So you're gettinghim at one seventy nine and getting him
as a ninetieth percentile model guy.For me, I think it is an

(54:35):
absolute steal. All those things Iknew, Jess, I knew all those
things. I had it all. It's a great right up in here in
my head, had all those thingsthat Pelas was talking about, all right.
Uh, second pick in the sixthI had two picks left. Second
pick in round six, pick oneninety two overall. I went with Michael
Barrett, the linebacker out of Michigan. And I'm gonna I'm gonna guess there's
probably a pretty big variance on himtoo. I know I've we've talked about

(54:59):
him. I think you and I'vetalked about him. Others have as well.
He's a smaller player, not thebiggest guy. I'm kind of thinking,
you know, Kevin Pierre Lewis orsomebody like that, you know that
type of guy which has had success. Maybe he's a special teams guy.
But I took a flyer on MichaelBarrett. Yeah, I actually don't know
what's ton about Michael Barrett. Notgonna lie is that, y'all. Look,
I'm covering days one and two here, and he's probably one or two.

(55:22):
So I haven't dug deep into thefilm. I do know we ran
four to seven as a five toeleven linebacker. That's usually not great,
and I do. I mean,I get the model numbers on everybody.
He's got a solid model grade, especially for a six or seventh round prospect.
So that's fine. You're taking flyerson linebackers, and I know that.
Uh, it's not about bad placeto do that. Take flyers on
linebackers. Well, and that's whatI did with my last pick. As

(55:44):
well. I went down the sameroad again. I went to the last
pick, round seven, two thirtyfive. I went Jalen Ford out of
Texas and kind of the same thingas a position of need stack linebacker.
If you're going, we're in roundseven now, Steve, I mean that's
that's that's where we're We're around seven. So I went Jalen forty six three,
two hundred and forty two. Uhmost I doeple think he can maybe

(56:07):
project as a MIC linebacker down theroad. So my last pick was was
Jalen Ford out of Texas. Yeah, I mean similar, similar answer.
Now he's projected to go a lothigher. He's projected to go, and
I think if you're picking in theseventh when when the guys who are projected
to go higher, like Jalen Fordprojected to go, I think about one
hundred picks hyeah, about eighty picksearlier. That's a good value right there.

(56:30):
So now you're getting a guy thata lot of people liked and thought
it was maybe a Day two guyat some point in the whole process,
and he drops. I think Fordis a good, solid linebacker prospect,
so maybe even better than Michael Barrett. So I like that pick for two
thirty five. There. Seventh round, you're not, you know, you're
not. You'll find a lot ofstarters in the seventh round, you know.

(56:51):
Let's just take us some campus. No, I'm looking for the Chris
Carson or somebody like that. That'sgonna pop, Malcolm Smith, whoever it
is, it's gonna that's gonna pop. All right. So my my overall
draft rade from PFF. You guysgave me a B, which I'm happy
with. Again, this school wasn'tmy best thing in the world, and
so if I get a B,I'm thrilled. That's good. I tell
my kids to strive higher. Butthat's just that's just me. Top seventy

(57:13):
five percent of Seahawk drafts, bythe way, in terms of my draft
rank. So there you go.Huh, how about that Ballozolo. I've
learned something along the way. Goodgood draft results. There. It shows
how uncomfortable it can be though withouta second round pick. Right, It's
like I got a couple couple impactplayers, but man, it'd be really
nice to have, you know,an extra second in there. Well,
I think you bring up something. We'll wrap it up with this. I

(57:36):
just kind of looking through there andlooking at the and the good thing about
this exercise, all joking aside,is is I'm going through this, you
know, like for their true needs. I mean, they have to add
certain things to their roster, whetherit's during the draft, udfa's or you
know, other free agents that arestill out there, maybe a trade,
whatever it might be. There aresome needs for Seattle, especially on that

(57:58):
offensive line. And by the timeI went from the first round and all
the way down to pick eighty one, there was nothing of value there,
and I just it kind of youknow, I think that's where this is
kind of a reality test, right. This is where the PFF the simulator
is probably pretty accurate in terms of, you know, what John Schneider and
his staff could be looking for.If, like you said, Steve,

(58:19):
if they go from sixteen and don'tpick again until eighty one, there's a
pretty big gap there. And ifyou're trying to improve something on the offensive
or defensive lines, you're gonna you'regonna have a hard time without that second
round pick. Yeah, it's agreat place to play through those scenarios.
Now, I'm a big believer inthis draft. I think the top twenty
to twenty five players in the draftnon qbs are like, they're good prospects.
I think you're getting a good,solid starter in this draft. I

(58:40):
don't think there's a lot of reachesthere. So you got a Johnny Newton,
that's fine, But then you gotto play. Remember when the when
the Seahawks took their first rounder andkept trading down and they basically turned one
pick into six picks, and oneof those six picks was DK Metcap,
who was, you know, absolutelya first round caliber player. And so
it's like you got your first rounderand then five other chances on other players

(59:01):
to hit even if they missed, right, Even if those guys missed,
you still took those You still hadall those lottery tickets, so to speak.
So it's an interesting exercise to say, what if they took sixteen and
did keep trading down and flipped itto you for four more picks, right,
and you have four picks between yeah, I don't know, thirty two
and seventy five or whatever it is, and then you fill. You might

(59:22):
be able to fill multiple starters insteadof just one starter. So those exercises
are fun and sometimes worthwhile. Atthe NFL level when you can trade down
and accumulate more assets. All right, my friend, I appreciate this.
Great stuff. Tell people about whatPro Football Focus has going on, not
just on the website, but alsocoming up tomorrow and through the draft.

on our conversations for now with whatthe Seahawks are going to do. We'll
go back through that mock Draft.I had Steve brought up a good point
DK Metcalf that was part of thetrades in twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen,
when it was just like a whirlwindof activities what the Seahawks were doing.
I'll go through some of those andjust tell you how crazy it was.

(01:01:28):

(01:04:03):
Neest Show, brought to you bySnow Call Me Casino. Trades, Trades
and more trades. John Schneider, known for his trades, loves making trades
on Draft Day, a whole bunchof trades. We're on Draft Eve twenty
twenty four for the NFL drafts, right on the cusp of things. Here
we go. Man, They've madeone hundred and twenty seven draft choices since

(01:04:27):
twenty ten, has John Schneider andPete Carroll, and we all know how
it's kind of broken down over theyears. It's been It's been a lot
more successful early on than it hasthe last couple of years for John Schneider
and his and his group started outgreat. Russell Okung, Earl Thomas,
Golden Tates got pretty good for awhile obviously, then the Hall of Famers.

(01:04:51):
Since twenty ten, eight players draftthat were AP All Pro first teamers.
Only Michael Dixon though since those firstthree drafts has been in that regard.
So it's it's been a little bitof a dry spell in terms of
awards. I'll go through some ofthose numbers in a second, but this
is what we're kind of expecting.Six times he's traded down in the first

(01:05:12):
round. Never traded up in thefirst round, John Schneider, but six
times he's traded down in his previousfourteen drafts. The thought that you don't
have a second round pick, andyou wouldn't pick again until from sixteen until
eighty one overall Day two eighty onethird round pick seems to be a little
far fetched unless there's someone there theylove. But even then, I think
it could be hard not to makea move and try to acquire a second

(01:05:33):
round pick. And that's some ofthe rumors going around right now. We
had Ross Tucker on about an hourago, and there's interesting comments he made.
Remember John Schneider was a guy thatsigned him as an undrafted free agent
out of college. He told thatstory. He was at Washington with the
at the time Redskins now the Commanders. That's where Schneider was a twenty eight
year old personnel guy. And we'llhave that full interview up because it's a

(01:05:55):
great story. It's a great story. It's quite long, but you should
go to our podcast page. It'sa really good story. Well well,
Drosstalker for CBS Sports Westwood One wastalking about how you know now or at
the time of the year where thingsstart to get real. I think there's
more truth, more fact than fictioncoming out right now. Which is interesting
too, because I've seen multiple reportsof the Eagles, the team that I,

(01:06:16):
you know, work for, Ido their Eagles preseason games. See
a lot of reports of the Eagleslooking to trade up, And there's a
lot of talk about the Seahawks tradingdown, which would not surprise me because
of John Schneider's confidence in his abilityto find good players and the fact that

(01:06:39):
they don't have a second round pick. So who knows. Maybe, you
know, I can totally see theEagles wanting one of like five players and
they're there at sixteen, and sothey move up from twenty two to sixteen,
and Schneider moves down to twenty two. Still gets a really good player
for the Seahawks, but it pickedup the second rounder because the Eagles have

(01:07:01):
two of them. That makes alot of sense to me. Yeah,
Greg Bells keeps talking about, youknow, Green Bay, familiarity with them,
whoever it's they just I just thinkthey almost I have to is a
hard, strong thing to say,but I think I feel like they really
have to make a move with thatsixteenth pick and find a way to get

(01:07:25):
into the second round. And addyou know, whether it's a late first
couple seconds and the third whatever itmight be. And and for those who
are just you get excited about thefirst round, I know, we get
we all get excited about the firstround. Yeah, but we kind of
got over that with this regime becausewe were just wait and wait. Well,
but this and this regime has nothad success with the first round.

(01:07:46):
Like if we're being really if we'rebringing just brutally honest, this is you
know, let's just go back, you know, Witherspoon, jury's out,
Okay, but we go back overthe years, you know, Brooks call
your affetti, Irvin Carpenter, like, has not been great first rounds.
Three first round picks, only threefirst round picks for John Schneider have been

(01:08:10):
Pro bowlers. Devin Witherspoon, RussellCoog and Earl Thomas with Seattle with Seattle
Fair. Okay, Frank Clark,Frank Frank. The Secon round pick doesn't
matter. So have been for havebeen have been Pro bowlers. Earl Thomas
is the only first round pick backin twenty ten that was the first team
All Pro. Okay, So thefirst round is not and I'm not trying

(01:08:32):
to tear apart John Schneider. WhatI'm telling you is that his success has
come later. Like his success hasnot come in the first round. It's
come in rounds two through seven alongthe way. This is an organization and
we talked about the guys last week, the lieutenants, the guys involved,
those guys have all been with him. Nolan Teessay's the only guy that's been

(01:08:56):
there less than fifteen years. He'seleven. The combined group of four guys
that work with Schneider, that overseethe personnel departments, whether it's college scouting,
player personnel, pro personnel, etcetera. All the scouts, the
four guys combined have sixty years experiencewith the Seahawks. They have been around
for a long time. They knowwhere to find guys out of the first
round. They know where to findquality players out of round one, out

(01:09:18):
of picks one through thirty two.The first round is the fun sexy.
We know by the time they comeup tomorrow and Roger Goodell gets through the
first thirty two picks and we puta bow on round one tomorrow. Anybody
listening to this radio station, noteven this show, just this radio station,

(01:09:38):
whether you're listening to the Draft Missin the morning with Chuck and Buck
with Greg's got his insights as abeat writer. And you know from ten
to twelve me Softy fame the mockdraft. Today you I would be stunned
if there's a name that's picked,if you're kind of that draft nerd,
like like a lot of you guysare, and we see the numbers people
want to talk draft. I willbe stunned if there's guys picked in the

(01:10:00):
first round that you that you gowho like, we've gone through all of
these guys, Yes, we've gonethrough everybody, it seems like as far
as the first round, except theSeahawks did that to us a couple of
times over the years with Bruce Irvin, James car But this is a different
world now, it is. Thisis just a different world. Like we
live in a world now where everyand you know, every single player is

(01:10:21):
scrutinized. Hell, I did itwith Fatanu earlier, right like I and
and and do you you might havethat? Could you have that cut?
Maybe not? Don't worry about it, don't worry about it. I'm no,
no, no, no, don'tdon't. We'll get we'll get tomorrow.
But I brought I brought up aguy that is a consensus first round
maybe god maybe late first round atworse. But if he's there at sixteen

(01:10:42):
and they trade out of that, but people are going to lose. But
what I brought up now with Ross, with Ross Tucker, is that you
know good football like and Ross likesreally good football player. No guarantee he
projects as a guy in sine fact, Ross said, I want to see
him play outside in the NFL usedto start. Here's the thing. We've
broken down all these guys. We'vebroken down them all and I'm telling you

(01:11:04):
again, this isn't a regime thatyou are. You should be more interested,
more curious, and more excited aboutwhat they do after the first round
than the first round. Now theydrafted two guys last year. Devin Witherspoon
already has bucked the trend. He'sthe first guy since twenty ten in the
first round pick for playing for Seattlethat has ended up being a pro bowler.

(01:11:26):
And Witherspoon looks like a guy thatcould probably possibly be an All Pro
player as well. Like he lookslike he's and Jackson Smith and Jigba a
little bit of a slow start lastyear, but we saw him come on.
Maybe there's potential there for him tobe a pro bowler as well.
So like I'm not last year's firstround picks were on paper right now look
like they're turning out quite good. But as you go through over the years,

(01:11:49):
I just went through them. Imean, these guys don't get re
signed, they don't get brought back. They get one contract and done.
Brooks call your a fetti Irvin compkarp O Kun like those guys just we
it's one and done. It's onecontract and you're out of here. And
that they just don't invest a lotof times. Earl's really the one guy
that they've invested heavily in as afirst round pick. Earl was and then

(01:12:12):
that went south after a while, but that wasn't football. You know what
this reminds me of, And notto equate it to college football because it's
completely different landscape. But when itcomes to coaching, is I still remember
and I know that coach Leech operatedthis way at Washington State, and coach
Dickert has come out and said it, we're not getting the five stars,
We're not getting the four five starsguys. We're gonna go get the three
star guys. And that is whythat is the value in recruiting that I

(01:12:36):
see what John Schneider and Pete Carrollhave done in the past, and we'll
see what he does with Mike McDonaldnow is finding that value that you were
talking about it. It reminds meof the same exact thing. And by
the way, I do have thatkind of Ross Tucker talking about fought to
It's only twenty seconds. We havetime to play it well. And let
me say this, he's an awesomeplayer. Like I watched him, he

(01:12:56):
is awesome. And I don't carethat he's six four and not six sixty
sixty seven. He has long armsand great feet. I think you're really
making a mistake if you don't tryhim at offensive tackle first, and if
it doesn't work out, then movehim into garbage. I think he can
be a very good offensive tackle inthe NFL. Now from the Start Rentals

(01:13:36):

We do this every year. Weold Purple sheet calls up Mike Olman and
says we need you for the NFLDraft, and Mike says, I'm retired.
I don't study these guys anymore. But we just want his inside.

(01:15:55):
We want to have that really givesus an excuse to have coach on and
see him and talk to them, and here he is. For the next
couple of days. He's going togive you a full breakdown rounds one through
seven. Right now, what doesyour draft board look like? Mike,
No, you said, you saidexactly right in the beginning, you know,
rich Ol and said, Okay, you're coming on, I said,

(01:16:16):
and not to share. Yeah, yeah, you're coming on. So here
I am. You're stuck with me. Don't ask me any hard questions.
Okay, Well I never do,I never do. We just have a
conversation back and forth. I will, I do love. We talked about
the process before, and we'll gothrough that in a second. It's probably
changed over the years. I wantto just reminisce a little bit. The
two thousand and two thousand and onedrafts were your drafts here in Seattle,

(01:16:41):
correct, Yeah, one first roundin two thousand from Alabama. You took
a guy by the name of SeanAlexander. What do you remember about when
you were scouting Shawn Alexander. Well, it's just, you know, he
had had a tremendous college career, and then the thing was that his team,

(01:17:02):
Alabama at that time, it wasn'tthe undefeated Alabama. You know,
the coach he had was eventually letgo, but uh, you know,
he just was we needed a runningback you know, we had Ricky Waters,
but Ricky was near the end,and you know, he was too
good to pass up. And youknow, as much as people say that

(01:17:24):
I wanted to pass the ball everytime, every down, you know,
a great runner really made all thedifference, and he did. He was
really good for us people. Thatwas not a hard pick. I mean
that was that was that he wasthere. We scouted him, we liked
him, and so we picked him. Sometimes it gets a little squirrely,
but that was not a hard one. Yeah, nineteenth. Overall that same

(01:17:46):
draft, speaking of throwing the football, you took a pretty good receiver.
What do you remember about your thirdround pick from Florida, Darryl Jackson.
Well, Daryl was you know,he was great for us. And and
you know what these guys, ifyou and I would say this too,
we'll talk about receivers because I guessthe Seahawks, I mean talk about their
receivers as well down the road. But you can I was fortunate enough to

(01:18:12):
get good, really good receivers inrounds two to three. A little bit
later during my career. Daryl, though, was We scouted him hard.
He checked all the boxes. Hewas a good guy. I really liked
him, and he had a greatwork ethic, and so he put that
with his physical skills. That wasnot a tough one either any And I

(01:18:32):
think over the course of his career, honestly he was a little underrated.
He was really good. He washe was really good. A couple more
guys, I just back to backtwo thousand and two thousand and one was
something else because you took Corn Robinsonthe next year. I mean, so
you had your two wide receivers, you had of Bobby Ingram to mix.
You're going to a Super Bowl afew years later, which was awesome.
But the seventeenth pick in the twothousand and one NFL Draft was a guard

(01:18:57):
out of the University of Michigan. He now has a statue in Canton,
Ohio, Steve Hutchinson. You tooka guard seventeenth, and I'm sure there
were people probably here at the time. I'm guessing Softy in others, Gas
Grass, all those guys. Iwasn't here. Mike Ho's in Utah then.
But I'm sure there's some people criticizingyou for taking Steve Hutchinson. That
turned out pretty good. You musthave really liked what you saw for the

(01:19:18):
big fella. Oh yeah, youknow. And then there's a good story
that goes with that. We wentback to the University of Michigan pro day
and they had they probably had,oh I don't know, ten or eleven
kids that they were draft eligible, some high but they were going to go
in the NFL Draft. They reallyhad a good team. Walked onto the

(01:19:39):
practice field that day and everyone waslooking at David Terrell, who was a
wide receiver. They really wanted tolook at him, and he was,
you know, physically everything you wanted, all that kind of stuff. I'm
standing there and Bo Shambecker comes upto me. He's no longer coaching.
He's kind of got the office andhe wanders around. He's a consultant for
everybody. And he comes over andhe says hello, and we're talking.

(01:20:02):
And I had to tease him becausewe played them in the Holiday Bowl when
I was at bau and he claimedthat we held on every single play,
and every time I met him inyears after that, I just kind of
throw a little dark in there.I'd say, hey, we didn't know,
we didn't hold in that game, and that was ten years ago,
you know, And he fires upto start yelling, oh, I mean,

(01:20:24):
he's going crazy. So but hegoes, Mike, he goes,
I know you're up here to seeTerrell and those guys. That guy right
over there is the best one.And he pointed at Steve, and so
we got on. We had knownabout Steve, certainly, but we we
really dove in heavy on Steve, and clearly that was one of the best

(01:20:46):
picks we've ever made. It's oneof the best picks of franchise history.
There's no doubt about that. Iknow it's more a collaboration in two thousand
and five, but I just pointthis out because you know, you guys
are so close. You took youknow, you took Trufon and number one
cam Hanlan was number two that year. Seneca, who was a big part
of nothing else. The NFC ChampionshipGame was that year as well. So

(01:21:08):
you had a bunch of I meanyou you could really see Josh Brown was
drafted. I mean, who wasarguably norm sorry others, I mean,
one of your best kickers, ifnot the best kicker that this franchise has
had. You have all those guyskind of up and it's interesting that what
you were missing five you were kindof missing a little something and it was
the linebackers. And I always lookback to that old five draft. Lofa

(01:21:29):
and Leroy you you you guys havetwo rookie linebackers and Mike what a big
part of getting the Super Bowl. Those two rookies were right, Oh,
there's no question about it. Andyou know they really were good. And
that's listen, that's tough to do. You know, you draft a guy,
even if he's a first rounder, and he comes in at any position,

(01:21:51):
there is a learning curve, butit's it's those two were ready right
away. Lofa. Of course,Lofas you talk to them all the time
now he's still around. He wasa special guy. Not only is a
great player, but he was smart, a great teammate, I know,
and and not not a particularly bigguy. He was a little bit undersized

(01:22:12):
for linebackers at that time. Buthe really he really was very very good.
And that that elevated us. Thatelevated us to to where we got
to. And you know this, but as I was finishing up, I'll
tell you what the drafts while Iwas there after the first one that was
not a good one because we hadtwo competing groups. Yes, the group

(01:22:35):
that that scouted for Dennis, andthen and then my group that came in
and it did work, and thatwas my fault. Okay. But then
as we got going, you know, Ted Thompson, I can't say enough
about the job he did. Andthen of course he went on to run
the Green Bit Packers and he wasawesome. Well, and then once you
weren't involved anymore, they're drafting longsnappers and two kickers. So's we'll just

(01:22:57):
leave it at that. Yeah,I mean, but that was that's well,
yeah, that also happened. Imean I tell people, and I'm
honest about it, that I reallydidn't have to be there no draft day,
No, no I could. Icould have been you know, over
a Dino's there someplace, just kindof just talking about stuff that. You
know, it's a different world now, because you know, when Pete was

(01:23:19):
here, Mike, you know,we've talked about this time. When Pete
was here, he had the finalsay. And you know, John had
his four lieutenants, Nolan and MattBarry and who well, Sarah Hindline and
Kirshner. We're all up there lastweek talking. I said, nothing changes,
you know, John's in charge andall that. Well, things do
change. John was maybe leading thedraft, but Pete had the final say.

(01:23:43):
Now it's the general manager as thefinal say. But Mike McDonald's there.
I'll ask you this because you werekind of on the other side as
a GM and then the coach. But I don't there was obviously we all
know there was no collaboration from theguy that was a GM the last few
years when you didn't have to bethere. Mike McDonald, I assume would
be very involved, but not havinga final say. How challenging do you
think it is for this scouting staffthat John has assembled. The four guys

(01:24:06):
I just mentioned, Mike, they'vebeen it's with the Seahawks have combined sixty
years with Schneide, I mean, and John's going to the fifteenth draft.
But they have a new coach anda new coaching staff. Is that a
challenge at all? Knowing, youknow, trying to do you even care
what Mike McDonald thinks. I wouldhope you would. But how does that
work? Yeah? Well, Ithink what happens is that John before he

(01:24:30):
hired the coach. Okay, theseare things that had to be talked about
and really thought about how are wegoing to work together, and from both
sides, both Mike and John hadto come up with it with an idea
that this is going to work.Otherwise it doesn't work. It doesn't work
unless those two guys are doing thesame thing. And I go back,
I go back to my time inGreen Bay where Ron Wolf was my boss.

(01:24:55):
I was a new head coach, first time head coach in the league,
and he was my boss. Andhe had been a long time great
general manager, great guy for theRaiders and all that kind of stuff,
and he had final say, buthe didn't make any decisions. He really
didn't make any decision on a playeruntil we talked. The talk through it.

(01:25:16):
And there were times when I'd say, you know, I didn't agree
necessarily. The best examples he wantedto draft full back in the you know
high and and early in my careerthere, and you know, I said,
you know, we like this otherguy more, and he went with

(01:25:36):
me, and that full back stayedwith us. Was a great, great
player for Green Bay for a longtime. So we didn't never have an
argument. We worked together, eventhough if we said, okay, we
both I want him, I wanthim, he goes Okay, I got
to go this way because he hadfinal say, and I think that's how
Mike and John are going to work. Yeah, I think it's it's it's

(01:25:57):
the collaboration will be interesting. Ithink the fact that it's maybe we'll learn
a little bit about what they've donethe previous fourteen years, if things have
changed it all in terms of whatthe draft looks like. And you know,
they certainly took a reach and tooksome flyers on guys by the year.
We'll see if they do that comingup starting tomorrow and then obviously through
the weekend as well. My Colenggrinjoining us here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
Inside a draft room, I thinkNolan brought this up the other day

(01:26:19):
that he said, you guys wouldall be kind of surprised. It's quite
quiet in there. There's not alot of like back and forth collaboration.
Like you said, you maybe it'syou the head coach and the GM or
speaking and that's about it. Whatis it like? I mean, you've
been in forty nine Ers, Packers, Seahawks, Browns, You've been in
different different draft rooms. Are theysimilar? Are there some common themes to

(01:26:41):
all these draft rooms. I thinkso well, I think, you know,
I grew up in the league withthe forty nine ers, and Bill
ran it in a certain way,and I think I probably ran it the
same way. And so you know, it is quiet, you know,
because there's stuff to do. There'smight big conversation between me and I'll go
over to a scout or a coachor you know, coach's top. But

(01:27:03):
everyone has their responsibilities in the room. There are phones all over the place.
There's a guy that I think itmight be different now, but there
were phones on all over the place. There are books in front of you.
There are draft boards. There's threefour boards around you try and anticipate
who's gonna draft who, And youhad people assigned to that. You have

(01:27:25):
people that actually, you know, one of the great guys in the league
came out of book. Michael Lombardi, who was with Belichick for years in
New England and he was the ClevelandBrowns general manager and all this kind of
we called him Scoop because what hehis job with the forty nine ers was
Okay, we're gonna draft this guy. He'd go where his job is to
go get him off the board.Take them around, show him to everybody,
and then put him up on theother board. That was his job.

(01:27:48):
And so you have guys doing thosekind of things too, so it's
fun. I remember inviting John.I always invite John Nordstrom to the draft
room and he's sit in the cornerand I draft somebody. I'd turn around,
he nod or you go. Idon't know. It was fun,
but he was good and obviously hecared about football. And it's an exciting

(01:28:08):
time. But there's a lot ofdowntime too. You leave the office,
going to your office, you know, wait for phone calls from people.
Surprising things happen during the day ofthe draft. I'm looking through here and
I know that, like I,hear a lot while Schneider likes to draft
trade with certain teams, and hekind of does. And now I'm looking

(01:28:29):
back at the two thousand and twothousand and one, two thousand and two
Mike Homgran drafts. I'm guessing it'snot a coincidence. Maybe it is,
but I'm looking at some of thetrades. Trade to San Francisco, trade
to San Francisco, trade to GreenBay, another trade to Green Bay.
There's another one to Green Bay andanother one to San Francisco. It's funny

(01:28:49):
that, like, is there afamiliarity? Do you like going with guys
that you know? Even like youleft the organizations? But I'm sure the
relationships are still strong. Is thatsomething to keep an eye on you?
You kind of stay with the guys, you know, you try to trade
with the guys. You know.Maybe it's a trust factor. I don't
know, Yeah, there, youknow what, there is a trust factor.
And also you know, they theythose phone calls didn't always come from

(01:29:12):
me to them. They'd phoned metoo, so uh, you know,
and and look at I was relativelynew and how at holding that position,
and so I'm sure they thought theycould take advantage of me a little bit.
But I had some funny things, you know. Bill walshone me once
and said we'd like to move uptwo spaces before in front of you,
you know, And I said, well, or a spade or maybe one

(01:29:35):
spot. And I said, coach, I you know what, if you
want to pick the guy I want, I can't do that. He goes,
well, what if I told youhe was weighed more than two hundred
and fifty? The guy I wantweighs more than two hundred and sixty pounds,
So I knew that wasn't the guyI wanted, So I said,

(01:29:55):
okay, we'll do the deal.So you know you do stuff like that.
But yeah, I would say, having said you deal with your friends,
I will also say, don't trustanybody. Don't believe anybody, because
they're working it too. They're workingat pretty good and at the end,
if they get you, they laugha little bit and they teach you about

(01:30:15):
it. Okay, I'll wrap itup at this. I am curious because
I think I remember you've told methat wall story before, and I just
as you're telling me again, I'mthinking about this for a second. I'm
sure you had a lot of callslike that, either you're making or vice
versa where their guys want to moveup, move down, like whatever the
case is, and do you guysare you honest with each other? You

(01:30:38):
said not to trust anybody, butthere's probably got to be some times like
hey, I'm not going to picka quarterback, like how did those conversations
go? And does anybody ever screwthe other guy? Because I would think
that would be like one of thosethings that's just taboo, Like you can't
do that. You're gonna pay aprice down the road. But there has
to be some sort of prop Isthere any kind of transparency at all?
I think there is, And Ithink you said it right. I think

(01:31:00):
you know you're you're you're bouncing arounda little bit on certain things when you're
talking to the conversation and you're you'relaughing, you're joking. I need this
when when you get right down tothe nitty gritty and and he's a friend
of yours or somebody you coached withor someone you know, then it's it's
straight shooting that That had been myexperience. Yeah, you know, no

(01:31:23):
one ever. I never got gemmedup that way with one of my colleagues
or one of my friends, likethe guys you know. Yeah, like
so like like Schneider's on the phonetomorrows is like I got sixteen. I
want to move down, but Iwant to do this, and the guys
wants to come up, and you'relike, how transparent would he be in
saying listen, like I need tomove down to twenty two or whatever it
might be, and I'm going toget this guy or vice first, or

(01:31:45):
somebody wants to move up to hisspot. How transparent are they, Well,
they probably wouldn't name the player, right, but they're they they about
a movement. They talk about movement. Absolutely. Yeah. In fact,
one of the things that you dobefore it even starts, you phone every
team, every team regards to whereyou are and say, listen, if
you want to come up to mysay say you had a pick in the

(01:32:05):
first seven picks, ten picks. You phone everybody, say you want to
come up, give me a call. If your guys you know, give
me a call if your guys there, maybe we can do something. So
you alert everybody that that communication cantake place, you know. And so
I imagine I don't think the Bearsare doing it now, but they have
the first pick in the draft, but there are people that they wanted.

(01:32:29):
Everyone's on the phone trying to moveup and trying to get the player they
want, particularly when you have thismany quarterbacks. You know, that's such
a big deal. This year,When Mike Hombrin walks through the Virginia Mason
Athletics Center on Draft Day, everyonebows, well, they do just that
is true. But when you're walkingthrough on draft day, as you've done
for the last decade or so sinceyou started working for us and started coming

(01:32:53):
with us. You know, youwalk around the halls of the Virginia Mason
Athletics Center and you make your waydown around different places. Is there any
part of you that misses it?Or are you just like this is the
best place to be because I cankind of walk around see what's going on
here, but I don't have anypressure on me. Do you miss it
or is it like this you're ina better spot right now? Well,

(01:33:13):
it's it's both, you know,and I I there and you and I
have talked about this before a littlebit. I h there are certain things
I miss. I get asked thata fair amount. I missed the players.
I miss my staff. I missthe camaraderie that way and the closest
that way, and how hard weworked. I miss The draft was fun.
I mean the draft to me,you put a lot of work in

(01:33:34):
and and you're setting up the futureof your football team. So it's very
very important. The stuff, youknow, the stuff I don't miss.
I miss the press conferences. Idon't miss the late nights all that.
Wait a second, you missed theyou missed the press, you miss us,
you missed the press conference. Iwould miss I missed you, I

(01:33:56):
know, and I missed I missedjustice. If I knew justin the Yeah,
yeah, I wasn't out here yet, but you missed me before my
time. Coach Mike put on agood show. Just wasn't born yet.
No, you know, Mike puton a good show because he was always
good to us. And there's there'sguys that don't like it, but you
were always good to us and weappreciate that. Uh, we will see
you soon. You're great, You'rethe best. Love the stories, love

(01:34:17):
the inside I think I know ourlisteners really appreciate, you know, just
some of the inside stuff and what'sgoing on behind the scenes, and and
we appreciate you for it. Sowe'll talk soon. Thank you, sir.
That's Mike hol Long grind boy, nothing nothing, man. We're so lucky.
