Blind spots refer to things that we are not fully conscious of that affect our lives. This is sometimes due to a lack of knowledge or awareness, but it is often because we are in denial.

The definition of a blind spot, according to the APA Dictionary of Psychology is, “a lack of insight or awareness—often persistent—about a specific area of one's behavior or personality, typically because recognition of one's true feelings and motives would be painful.”

Blind spots occur in many areas of our lives, but especially so with our aging parents.

Three takeaways from this episode:

  1. A true blind spot is when you don’t know what you don’t know.
  2. Other blind spots are often things that are right in front of us that we don’t want to acknowledge.
  3. We all have them. If you don’t think you have a blind spot, that is one of your blind spots!
