Obesity is a major public health issue around the world and a growing concern for our youth. Children with obesity experience poor health outcomes, report a lower quality of life, and face a significant amount of weight bias and stigmatization. This talk will focus on understanding obesity as a chronic disease, identifying contributors to childhood obesity, and reviewing the current model for obesity treatment. We will also highlight the importance of community-wide efforts focusing on obesity prevention.
Dr. Walston works in the Healthy Active Living clinic at Akron Children’s Hospital where her clinical interests include working with children, teens and their families who are struggling with the disease of obesity. She also enjoys working with adolescents who are pursuing bariatric surgery.
