Welcome to another episode of Aligned with Cal Quarrel. I am Cal and if you are someone that reads the title of a podcast episode before listening to it, you are going to have seen that I am back handwriting all of my content. And by content, I mean social media posts, emails, and more recently, a blog post. And that blog post is actually the first blog post for 2025 and it is the 7th of August. So why? Let me begin by saying this. I really love AI. I use AI every single day in my business. I use it to support my clients and I also use it in my life. I have been very open about how I use it. particularly on my Instagram stories and in my emails. I love using AI to create recipes for me when I can't be bothered to go to the supermarket and I wanna utilize what I have at home. I very much dislike food waste, so I will ask ChatGPT to create recipes with things that I really need to use up. I use it for DIY. solutions. For example, I got an error message on my washing machine. I asked chat GPT what that meant. So many different things, but I had become lazy in my own business and I started outsourcing my voice to chat GPT to shortcut a process that is extremely important in my business. which is marketing. And as a result of that, I had become very disconnected with what it was that I was saying. And it was very much a disconnection of what I was in actual fact, putting out.

Welcome to another episode of Aligned with Kel Quarrel. I am Kel, and if you are someone that reads the title of a podcast episode before you listen to it, you are going to know that this episode is all about why I've gone back to handwriting my content. And by content, I mean social media posts, my emails, and also more recently, a blog post and It was actually the first blog post that I have put out in 2025. And I'm going to begin by saying, I absolutely love AI. I use AI in my business every single day. And I would go close to saying that I use AI in my everyday life, if not every day, every other day. I've been very open on my Instagram stories and within my emails that I use chat GPT, particularly to create recipes. So when I can't be bothered to go to the supermarket, I ask chat GPT to create recipes with the food that I already have in my home. I very much dislike food wastage. So when I know things are coming to an end, I asked ChatGPT to create recipes to use them up rather than throw them out. I use ChatGPT for DIY. So the other day I had a error message on my washing machine. I asked ChatGPT what it meant. So many different things. However, what I had started to do was outsource my voice, my marketing completely to ChatGPT. And as a result of asking it to write content on my behalf, I had become very disconnected with what I was actually wanting to say. And as we all know, in business, marketing is...
(05:19):
extremely important. If people don't know who you are or what you do, it's very difficult for them to buy from you. However, what I'd recognized was my content that I was putting out there was not landing. And I took some time and did a call to create challenge with Kirsten Morrison. It was a free five day challenge. And in that I became very aware that I had outsourced my voice to chat GPT and as a result was extremely disconnected with what was actually going out there, what I was actually marketing. And so that challenge kind of was a bit of a light bulb moment for me and very much a slap over the wrist in that because I'd become disconnected with what I was putting out there, it was not being received well. And from that challenge, I prioritised taking some time to write some content. And the last two posts that I have shared on my Instagram that were handwritten have had more engagement. than most of my content from the last six months. And not just engagement, I'm not interested in what I call vanity metrics. I'm not really that concerned about how many people like it or share it. And I know as someone that has a business and is a business coach, I could definitely pay more attention to those things. But what means the most to me? is when women share that one, they consume my content, two, that it moves them into action, and three, they actually share that with me. And so as a result of a post that I shared on Instagram, I had two women reach out to me directly and share that they had been moved into
(07:47):
taking action based on what it is that I had written in that post. Now, both of those women were in two very different situations, both incredibly powerful women in business, but they were activated in very different ways. But what the result was is both of them got into action. that will see themselves should they remain consistent in a completely different spot in three, six, 12 months time. And that is what it is that I really want for my content. And so that was affirming, of course, but even more than that, it was the connection that I had to the content that I was putting out. As I said before, I'm not really that interested in vanity metrics. I'm more interested in having an impact and knowing that what I'm putting out there into the world is authentically me. Now I'm not saying don't use AI. I handwrite my content in my Remarkable. I get it to convert it to text. Then I reread it. I make edits that I can see would improve the readability of that. And then I do ask my GPT, which I have created inside ChatGPT, to read over it and remove any unnecessary words or clean up anything to elevate the readability. But before I was actually asking ChatGPT to create the content from scratch. And the result is completely different. So two big things for me. One, the content has been landing in such a different way when it is that I've taken the time and prioritised the time to write content. And two, the way that I feel energetically
(10:10):
putting that content out. Because here's the thing, sometimes content's gonna land and sometimes it won't. Sometimes content's gonna be seen and sometimes content won't. But as long as you feel energetically aligned with what it is that you are sharing, I feel like that removes the need for vanity metrics because it is what it is that you feel called to share. And for me, when I look at it through the lens of human design, which is something that we do inside Elevate and Align Mastermind and something that I do when I work with my clients one-to-one. Your conscious mercury is all around your messaging and what it is that you are here to say. And I have the gate of shock. And so what that means is I'm here to kind of drop a lightning bolt on people to make them sit up, make them wake up and maybe have them think a little bit differently. And it's around transforming them. to look at maybe what needs to change. And when I was outsourcing my content to ChatGPT, even though I was perhaps giving them, giving them, giving ChatGPT a little reference to what I wanted to speak into, it was not really coming from my authentic message. And so changing that, going back to prioritizing time where I sit and write has really transformed everything and it has allowed me to tap into what it is that I am truly here to say and how I am designed to say it. So I'm gonna ask you the question, what in your business
(12:28):
have you outsourced that you've recognised it's time to take back? Maybe it is that you have also been outsourcing your voice. Maybe it's your time. Maybe it's your energy. Maybe there is some boundaries or some filters that could be put into place to support you better in your business. But as I said, This simple five day called to create challenge sparked such awareness in me that I had outsourced what is for all of us, one of our most powerful tools and that is our own authentic voice. And talking to women in my DMs, it was really interesting as a speaker, as someone that has a company that runs live events for women. When I speak on stage, I can't pause and ask Chatty to give me the content. When I'm in flow, holding space in a room, that is not something that I can do. And so on a podcast, here, no script, free flowing. I don't want to pause and have to refer to ChatGPT or another AI solution to give me the words that I want to speak. And when things are heavily scripted, I believe that takes away our nuances. It takes away that authentic feel of when someone is speaking. And so it's not.
(14:15):
And so it's obvious that when I was outsourcing all of the writing of my content, that it didn't come through as authentically me. So I'm really enjoying back being.
(14:39):
server.
So in hindsight, looking back, it's quite obvious that outsourcing my voice, even though it was written content, was never going to land as powerfully as if I had a handwritten or typed out from scratch exactly what I was feeling inside. And part of that was short-cutting. Part of that was, well, something's better to be put out than nothing at all. But what I have learned is that when you put content out just for the sake of it, then it really means nothing.
(15:33):
And in hindsight, it's quite obvious now looking back that being a speaker and speaking without scripts, doing a podcast without scripts, and it always being authentically my voice, then it was going to be disconnected from when I was asking something else to write my content for me. So I am really loving being back. prioritizing time to sit down and write and writing about things that feel exciting to me that I feel passionate about and writing it in a way that whilst it might not be the perfect English, the perfect grammar, it is more in line with how I speak and the way that I want to deliver. my voice. So hopefully this has been a
(16:42):
So in hindsight, it is quite obvious that when I speak without scripts, I do podcasts without scripts, that I'm gonna be disconnected from content that I'm actually not writing. And I'm now really enjoying prioritizing time to sit and write about things that I feel passionate about and I feel excited about. And the next level to that is that I've also been putting myself in my best working environment to support that creativity. And it's definitely not here behind my desk. For me, as an external market in human design, and if you don't know what that means, go and ask chat GPT or send me a DM on Instagram and I can share more with you. But for me, it is putting myself out there. out and about around other people's energies, where it is that it is busy. I do not need to be conversing with them. But for me, one of my favourite spots is the patio at Pacific Fair. I will take myself there with my Remarkable and I will write. And that environment is really supportive to my creative work. So. Little question, as I said for you today, what is it in your business that you have outsourced that you are ready to take back? Time, energy, maybe it's your voice, whatever it is, I'm going to encourage you to absolutely use AI to simplify, to automate, to do the repetitive boring tasks, but be very careful in what it is that you are handing over. to it in the hope that you are short-cutting something. Anyway, that is all from me today. I just wanted to share why I'm back handwriting my content. I hope that it continues to land, but what I do know is that it absolutely feels more authentically me.
(19:09):
So a reminder, ask yourself this question. What is it in your business that you have outsourced, maybe in the hope of streamlining or taking a shortcut, that it is time to now take back? Maybe it is your time. Maybe it is your energy. Maybe for you, it is also your voice. I'm gonna encourage you to assess and reflect and take steps forward to taking back whatever it is that you have outsourced that no longer feels good. Thank you for joining me on this episode. I am actually now going to make myself a chai latte and sit and do some writing. Until next time, I hope you stay well and I will see you again soon.
