Heather Hakes is a mindset coach, speaker, and author of Take the Leap. She has been featured on numerous podcasts and published in Voyage Denver and Women Who Empower and Inspire. Heather has reached tens of thousands through her international podcast, Mind Over Matter.

Heather specializes in helping others get out of their own way by awakening their infinite potential to create their ideal life. Heather is a graduate of Tony Robbins’ Mastery University and Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass. She also studies Eckhart Tolle, Bob Proctor, and Robin Sharma’s principles of presence, shifting paradigms, and personal mastery. Heather manifested six-figures after taking the leap to quit the corporate world by aligning with her true passion and purpose and is now on a mission to help others overcome self-doubt through her transformative coaching programs, retreats, and courses.

Following society’s rules

How likely are you to follow the “rules” that society sets for you? Heather admits that she was caught in this trap for a long time. She followed society’s rules in getting her degree and moving into the corporate world. For over a decade, Heather felt out of place, like she was chasing someone else’s dream. She remembers complaining to her parents about what she was doing while dreading every single Monday and cheering every single Friday for week after week. Climbing the corporate ladder left her feeling miserable about her job and her life. She finally clarified what she really wanted in life with the help of a coach.

A moment of pivot

What is it that you need to pivot from right now? Pivoting away from what you’ve known is not an easy thing to do. For Heather, it meant leaving the safety and security of a corporate job with a steady and sufficient paycheck. She had felt the gnawing inside of her for a long time as it told her to make a change. Her message to others is not to wait until you’re “ready” and everything is aligned because those moments may never come. You just have to jump first and let the net appear. Heather made the leap, even though it meant facing the worst-case scenario with fear and hesitation. We all need to realize that our story is a journey and a process---and not a destination.

Creating a path

What do you do when the traditional path isn’t available or clear? Heather says to find a mentor when your circumstances change and you can’t see clearly the path ahead. Look for someone who is where you want to be or a few steps ahead of you. They can help you create clarity and formulate a roadmap forward. Be resourceful and find an “accountabili-buddy.” There are coaches, mentors, and peers who will help you if you just ask; they can be great resources to help you move forward with an attitude of gratitude for your journey and what you learn along the way.

Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream-chaser to take--”Take one step in front of the other. Don’t look too far down the road. Try my technique for identifying specific goals: know your WHAT, be super specific about your strong WHYS, and take your first step.”
