My sister-in-law wasvisiting us back in October.

(00:58):
Which was so delicious.
So decadent.
But when she got back home andtried to make that same super
self, it wasn't quite as good.
She couldn't put her finger on at first.
But then I hit her that we had used asdry time I got from bro up and barrel.
That we had, but she didn't have.
So it just shows how much flavor.
(01:21):

(01:43):
Now it's raw with today's episode.
I want to start off with apublic service announcement.
You should buy more shallots.
I think shallots are, are great.
They have great flavor.
They're very, very, very, very underrated.
And I think you definitely shouldbe buying them more and I'm
gonna give you some reasons here.
So.
(02:04):
One of the good things aboutshallots is they have a more mild,
more sweet flavor than onions.
Which I think makes them the betterchoice if you're going to use them raw.
So, if you are wanting to includethem in a salad, you want to
put them into a salad dressing.
(02:24):
Uh, anywhere that you would useraw onions, I think you're better
off using raw shallots instead.
Uh, sometimes the bra.
Onions can be a little bit overwhelming.
Like you want to, whenever youadd ingredients, something.
Whether you're makinga burger or addressing.
Or.
Anything that would call.
(02:45):
Four.
Onions.
If you, you don't want tooverwhelm it with the onion flavor.
Because it, because it canoverpower things to take over
that that is the dominant thing.
You want it to play a role.
In the whole entire part ofwhat you're eating that just.
Boom be.
Right in your face.
I find this is often true.
(03:07):
With some types of snack foods, Ican get like crackers and they're
just like dominated by onion powder.
And it just, it just like, oh,I taste as onion powder now.
So Nance could be.
Could be pretty strong.
They're great.
I love our new.
That's why I really love.
Sauteed onions when you saute them really.
Wow.
And, and it kind of mellows themout and brings out their sweetness.
(03:27):
So I love those I'm burdened.
I do not like raw onionson burgers or on tacos.
Um, like when you get thosestreet tacos, I always asked for.
Onions not to be there.
But maybe if they were shouts, maybe give a better try.
Um, I need to try those S3 taco September.
Let's see if I liked that better.
(03:47):
But I think alleyway RA.
Shallots are I think often a betteroption than using raw onions.
And also sometimes.
You only find these giganticonions in the grocery store.
So because, you know, because the.
(04:07):
As they look good on theshelf, they want that.
People.
Um, Are always attractedto large produce here.
If you look through.
At the store ads.
You'll often see the word jumbleused to describe something.
So like, oh, we got jumbo pairs and wegot jumbo mangoes, and we got jumbo.
This.
And we got jumbo that, um, but.
(04:29):
Yeah.
Sometimes you don'twant a jumble honey in.
You only need so much for yourrecipe, because again, you don't
want to overwhelm with them again.
So.
Or they go off what's happensis you, you bind on, in.
Maybe use a quarter of it,or maybe you just half it.
You wrap it up, you put it in your fridge.
Three weeks later, you find it in theback of your fridge and it's ruined.
(04:52):
So you ended up just, just wasting it.
Uh, shallots are much smaller.
And so.
The most of the time I would usean entire shallot for a recipe.
So I don't end up having, um,leftover that I'm not going to use.
Now, the one thing you do haveto look at is the price of
shelves could kind of vary.
Uh, depending on if you canbuy them loose, that's better.
(05:15):
Sometimes you'll see them.
Packaged and it bags, but with likethree, four shouts or so, and sometimes.
And that be actually more buddy.
That just buying a single audience.
You really have to look around.
Uh, you have to wait things out.
Decide.
Um, which is going to be better.
Uh, economically.
(05:35):
But in terms of I'm not wastinganything, all I think most likely
you're going to use up shelves better.
And, and they still, theystill packing the flavor.
And, you know, I think they'rejust a really good option.
If you are looking to kind ofchange things up a little bit.
I mean.
Go for kind of a different flavor.
Um, try using shallots.
One thing I really like to use themin is during Thanksgiving time.
(06:01):
We'd like to get either like the.
White sweet potato so that oursuper tier that's, um, Not as sweet
as the orange puppeteers are more.
They are.
There are white inside.
So, so have some sweet potato flavor.
And I like to mix shallots in with those.
And bake that, and thatends up being really good.
Um, and I think that like theshowers are the perfect thing
(06:22):
because they don't overwhelm.
Um, the sweet potatoes to where I'mjust tasting that big punch of money in.
So I hope after listeningto this today, next time.
You're in your produce departmentof your favorite grocery store.
And you see the shallots.
You're going to put some into your cart.
