That knot in your stomach whena dream a needed step forward.
Hinges on a singlenumber, and it's a number.
You don't fully grasp a number thatfeels like it holds all the power.
Maybe for you, it was for anapartment or for a car, or
even just turning on utilities.
(00:21):
That moment when credit score is whisperedand suddenly you feel exposed, you feel
vulnerable, like your entire financialpast is laid, bare, judged, and you're
not even sure what the rules are.
If that sounds like you, if yourcredit score feels like a silent,
invisible barrier holding youback, then stick with me today.
(00:41):
We're gonna pull back the curtain.
We're gonna take back the power.
Hey there.
Welcome back to your daily, financially Confident Christian.
(01:03):
I'm Ralph and it's truly greatto be with you, just you and me.
This is the place where weanswer that deep question.
How can I become a financiallyconfident Christian?
And we're still right here inthe heart of our series dealing
with the stress of money worries.
We've been on a journeytogether, haven't we?
Learning to face debt.
(01:24):
Understanding credit and takingtangible steps towards real peace.
Today we're discussing something thatoften feels shrouded in mystery, something
that can cause a lot of unspoken anxiety.
Your credit score and your credit report.
These aren't just cold, arbitrary numbers.
Their echoes of your financialjourney, moments that shape
(01:46):
your future opportunities.
So let's be honest with each other today.
What does your credit score actually meanfor you, and why should you truly care?
Perhaps you've never looked the,the thought alone feels heavy,
maybe even a little shameful.
What if it's bad?
What if it confirms mydeepest financial fears?
(02:11):
Many times it's easier to justnot know, to keep that part of
your financial life locked away, out of sight, and out of mind.
Or maybe you did apply for something.
That rental, that loan and the termswere unexpected, the terms were harsh.
Or maybe you were simply turned downand they mentioned your credit score,
but it left you feeling confused.
(02:31):
It left you feeling disempowered.
Like someone else was holdingthe keys to your future, and you
didn't even understand the lock.
That quiet struggle, thislack of understanding about
your own credit history.
It's real.
It leaves you feeling trapped, like important decisions about
your life are being made based ona number that you don't control
(02:53):
and a language you don't speak.
It adds a crushing layer of stressprecisely when you need to access credit
for essential things leaving you wonderingif your past will forever hold you back.
But here's the truth, friend.
Your credit report is simply a record.
It's a snapshot of how you've managedand borrowed money in the past.
(03:17):
It shows if you paid bills on time, howmuch credit you've used and for how long.
And your credit score, it'sjust a summary, a calculated
number from that report.
Now I wanna be clear about something.
Our true identity, our worthis rooted firmly in Christ.
We must start there.
It's never in a number, never ina balance, but the truth is being
(03:41):
a good steward, being responsiblewith our own financial reputation.
That is a practical aspect ofliving wisely in the world.
God has placed us in.
The Bible consistently values integrityand faithfulness in our commitments.
Think about Psalm chapter 37, verse 21.
The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously.
(04:06):
Now while that speaks to generosity,it also clearly implies that the
righteous due repay their debts.
And how about ProverbsChapter 22, verse one.
It reminds us this a good name.
Is more desirable than great riches.
It's great scripture, and in today'sfinancial system, part of that good
(04:28):
name, that reputation involves howreliably you've handled credit.
Understanding and managingyour credit report isn't about
worshiping a number, it's just not.
It's about being a diligentand trustworthy steward of your
financial reputation, reflectingfaithfulness in your commitments.
(04:48):
It's about being free fromthat financial anxiety.
So my friend, you're askingwhat can you do right now?

a light on it and taking control?

That's Experian.
Equifax and TransUnion, and youcan get that once every 12 months.
So when you get there, choosejust one bureau to start with.
Don't feel overwhelmed, just pick one.
(06:16):
And then once you've pulledit, take just 15 or 20 minutes
to look through it and listen.
You don't need to become an expert today.
Just glance at it and askyourself some questions.
Are the balances listed here, even mine?
Do the balances look generally correct?
Ask yourself, do I see inaccounts I don't recognize?
(06:37):
Just a quick scan.
And then finally, if your bank or creditcard company offers free access to your
credit score, take a look there as well.
Just notice the number.
I don't want you to stress about it.
Just see where you stand.
Now you're wondering,Ralph, why does this help?
