This post-Footloose, pre-Dirty Dancing gem stars a baby Sarah Jessica Parker as Janey, an army brat with a dream of joining Dance TV, and Helen Hunt as her rebellious BFF Lynn — aka our surprise style ICON.

Costume designer Betty Pecha Madden delivered 1980s teen movie fashion gold, from velcro tearaway tartan schoolgirl skirts and Adidas kicks to Lynn’s unforgettable collection of hair accessories (stegosaurus clips, rainbow feet barrettes, raccoon hats, a grasshopper pillbox hat, and even a Cinderella rat crown). We break down all the campy, ‘80s looks and dive into the film’s stacked cast (hello, Gina Gershon and maybe Robert Downey Jr.?!), and the underrated soundtrack. Dancin’ in Heaven!
