Agi Keramidas (00:02):
Welcome to Personal Development mastery
podcast, and this is anothersnippet of wisdom where I select
my most insightful moments fromprevious episodes. Today's
snippet comes from my guest,Robert Quinn, who talks about
discovering and living a PurposeDriven Life. Keep listening to

(00:23):
learn how to uncover your uniquelife purpose and transform the
way you see yourself and yourcontribution to the world. Let's
dive right in

Robert Quinn (00:39):
to have a purpose driven life is to be very, very
clear about why you're on thisplanet. Many people believe
they're on the planet to eat, tosleep, to reproduce, which are

(01:03):
the same things animals do. Um,there's an entirely different
perspective in life, and thatperspective is, I have a
contribution to make, so mypurpose is my contribution to
the world. How will the world bedifferent? Because I was here,

(01:27):
how will people be better off? Alife purpose is not an ego
mechanism. It's not somethingabout what you acquire. I'm
going to make a lot of money.
That is not a life purpose. Iwant to have a lot of power
that's not a life purpose. Alife purpose is your gift to the

(01:48):
world. What is uniquely you, andhow do you give it away? And the
moment you can answer thatquestion, your life changes
dramatically. In fact,everything changes. I have a
good friend who has helped15,000 people write purpose

(02:10):
statements. He said, My purposeis to wake you up and bring you
home. What he meant by that isthe moment you write your life
purpose and you get it right, you feel like you've suddenly

(02:30):
come home. And you feel wideawake, right? You feel very
mindful and conscious, and youcan see things you didn't see
before. Having a life purposechanges everything we work with
a lot of folks where we simplysay, you've got 90 seconds write

(02:52):
a one sentence, life purpose. Itshould be simple. Should be
clear, write it down. Now mostpeople panic when we give them
that assignment, but in their 90seconds, they put something
down, and they usually don'tlike it very much. We say, you

(03:13):
know, that's absolutely fine.
What we want you to do, we'regoing to give you some ways to
think about this, but every daywe want you to take two minutes
and rewrite your sentence. Itmay take 11 days, it may take 25
days, it may take 60 days, butone morning you're going to

(03:34):
rewrite that sentence and you'regoing to run to wherever it's
closest to you and say, Readthis. You're going to be excited
because you've come home andyou're awake that you really
will capture now, there aremany, many things that help like
list the 10 Best and the 10worst things that ever happened
to you. As you look at these 20things, what has life prepared

(03:59):
you to do that no one else cando. Now that's a really
interesting, transformationalquestion, suddenly, because when
I write my 10 Best things, thatmakes me happy. When I write the
10 worst things, I'm depressed.
I'm on the carpet. But suddenlyyou ask the question, What did
these 20 things? What did theyprepared you to do that? No,

(04:19):
suddenly the 10 negative thingsare not negative anymore.
They're teachers. And so if I'vehad a terrible experience, that
prepares me to empathise withother people who've had that
terrible experience, I learnedthings in that process. When I
look at the best things thatever happened to me, why did

(04:42):
they give me joy? What was itabout them? What patterns exist
across these and as I begin tolook at myself, I can derive
clues as I rewrite my lifesentence. And there are many,
many other things. Can be done, but it's personal work. It's
deep reflection. It's aboutknowing who I am, and many

(05:06):
people cut the process at thebeginning fearing that they have
nothing. Our experience is thateverybody has what it takes to
write a life statement. It'sjust a matter of engaging the
process.
