57: Behind the Scenes at the Downtown Aquarium

Who knew that years ago, Houston would have an enjoyable and unbelievably different place that would stand out in the downtown area? Now recognized as a city landmark, the Downtown Aquarium is one of Houston’s great visitor locations. It’s an incredible place to see because it’s a magnificent six-acre entertainment and dining complex. Plus, who doesn’t like aquariums?

Wade Broussard, general manager at the Downtown Aquarium for the past six years but has worked at the Aquarium for 25 years, joins Blanca Quezada to talk about all the exciting things that happen behind the scenes to help keep all the variety of fish and animals healthy, safe, and happy year-round, even during inclement weather. He also highlights all the educational programs offered to children and teens. In addition, Wade talks about the entertainment complex’s full-service restaurant, shopping, and various amusements.

The Downtown Aquarium brings you nearly 300 diverse species of fish of all sizes, including huge sharks worldwide, in its 500,000-gallon aquatic wonderland. In addition to fish, it features other animals, including tigers, that kids and adults can enjoy and learn about.
