But first I'd like to say congratulationsto our listeners, Kai and Mike, who'll be
getting married next July at the Riverviewin Simsbury, right here in Connecticut.
(04:10):
Again, congratulations Kai and Mike, and thanks for listening to the
Stress-free Wedding Planning Podcast.
So let's start with this.
Why do people get the jitters?
I mean, you love your partner, you'reexcited, but suddenly you're panicked
about centerpieces and crying over cakeflares, and it's because it's a big deal.
(04:32):
A wedding isn't just a party.
It is a public commitment.
There's pressure from family, friends, your budget, your
timeline, and your Pinterest board.
It's a perfect storm ofemotion and expectation.
And let's not forget, some of thesejitters are from how you think things
should look, not what you actually want.
(04:52):
That's
exactly right, Sal.
Sometimes, some of the stressthat you put on yourself, those
jittery feelings are self-imposedbecause you cannot have perfection.
How many times have we told you before?
No wedding is ever perfect, so please trynot to get those jitters by thinking too
(05:13):
far in advance and wishing for perfection.
It'll never happen.

Now, how about managingthose expectations?
This leads us to the biggestpiece of advice that we can ever
(05:35):
give, and that's... ready for it?
Here it is.
You are allowed to let go ofthings that don't matter to you.
Not to your mom, not to yourneighbor, not to your wedding
blog, not to social media, TO YOU!
You are allowed to let those things go.
We've also seen couplesfight about colors.
(05:56):
Well, colors don't really matterwhen it comes to the end of the day,
it's the two of you getting married.
Don't fall into, "wehave to do this" trap.
If it doesn't bring you joy, skip itand be honest about what does matter.
If you care more about the music thanthe table setting, then invest in music.
(06:20):
We're not saying that because we'reDJs, but there are some things that
you really do need to spend yourmoney on, and there's some things that
are not gonna make the difference.
Look, there's only so many hours in theday and you really should concentrate
on really what's important to you.
You know, as Sam said, you know, nothing is ever going to be picture
(06:41):
perfect, but concentrate on the thingsthat are important to you, and you'll
get as close as you possibly can.
We've just explained how toconvert wedding jitters into joy.
We've discussed why wedding jittershappen and how to manage 'em.
Coming up next, what really matters, and five essential tips on how to
convert wedding jitters into joy.

(08:30):
Reception awareness.
At the reception, your guestsmay not be the only ones you have
access to your ballroom or venue.
So keep an eye on those envelopes.
Yeah.
You know those envelopesthat your guests bring?
Put them in a basket or a receptaclebehind the head table or sweetheart
table, or in a well observed location.
(08:53):
Think about putting somebody in chargeof removing and securing those envelopes
in a timely fashion during the reception.
It's so important to do thisreception awareness tip.
You don't want thoseenvelopes to go missing.
And that's another tip from Sal and Sam.
This is the Stress-free WeddingPlanning Podcast with Sal and Sam.
(09:13):
Welcome back to our discussion abouthow to convert wedding jitters into joy.
I'm Sam from Atmosphere Productions.
I'm Sal from After Hoursevents of New England.
We've already discussed why weddingjitters happen and managing expectations.
Let's talk about what really matters.
Here's the truth.
At the end of the day, you'llremember the look on your partner's
(09:37):
face, the laughs, the moments, not whether the favors matched or
the napkins were the right color.
I always tell clients, focus on yourfeelings, not just the logistics,
because the logistics can be off,but it's those special moments such
as the toasts, the first dance, thepeople you love all in one room.
(09:58):
That's what stays with you.
That's what brings usto the magic question.
We ask couples when they're stressed," if nothing went perfectly, but you
still got to marry your person andhave a blast on your day, would
it still be a great day?" Yeah.
I think, you know, every timethe answer's gonna be yes.
So now for the big question, howdo you turn jitters into joy?
(10:20):
How do you actually do that?
How do you shift from anxious to excited?
So here's a few quick tips.
First, pause and reconnect.
Take 10 minutes with yourpartner the night before.
And No more planning at this very moment.
Just remind yourselveswhy you're doing this.
And you can also take 10 minutes at thereception and just go away and just relax.
(10:46):
Just the two of you.
It's always something greatto do on your wedding day.
The second Tip is to delegate.
Yes.
Seriously.
This is extremely important.
Let your vendors handle the timeline.
That's what you paid them to do.
Let someone else chase down your uncleor your aunt that they need for pictures.
(11:08):
You do not need to do everything.
Delegate, delegate, delegate!
So true.
Sam, you, hired people for areason to do a special job, and you
have family and friends who coulddefinitely help you along the way.
Definitely delegate.
Now, another thing we've talkedabout, and I can't emphasize
enough, don't aim for perfection.
(11:29):
Aim for memorable.
Things that go wrong often.
Become the best stories.
They certainly do.
And now this is where youdo your breathing exercise.
Breathe in, breathe out, laugh, dance, have fun.
You got this.
Look and remember, your wedding isa celebration, not a performance.
(11:53):
Don't miss the joy by chasing perfection.
Take in the moments and have fun.
So there you have it.
We've just explained aboutconverting wedding jitters into joy.
Whether you are deep in thetrenches of planning or getting
ready to walk down the aisle.
Know this, their nerves are normal.
(12:13):
