HIDDEN TRUTH Behind The History Of Salt – Why Not All Salt Is Real (Is Salt Bad For You?)
Have you ever wondered where your salt really comes from—or why some types may harm while others heal? In this episode of The Biblical Nutritionist Podcast, we uncover the ancient and biblical history of salt, the difference between real and fake salt, and why this essential mineral has been both praised and feared.
Salt has been more than a seasoning—it was once a source of life, wealth, and covenant. Ancient civilizations built cities around salt deposits, used it as currency, and even required it in worship. But in modern times, salt has become misunderstood and misrepresented.
We explore how salt went from sacred to suspect—and what that means for your health today.
What Is Real Salt?
Real salt is unrefined, mineral-rich, and harvested with minimal processing—just as God intended. Examples include:
Sea salt
Himalayan pink salt
Redmond Real Salt
What Is Fake Salt?
Highly processed white table salt is stripped of natural minerals and often contains anti-caking agents or chemicals like bleach. It’s the kind of salt that’s earned the bad reputation—not the real thing.
You’ve probably heard that salt causes high blood pressure. But most studies blaming salt for health issues didn’t use real, natural salt. Instead, they studied extreme doses of processed salt in unnatural settings.
Key Health Benefits of Real Salt:
Supports hydration and electrolyte balance
Aids in nerve and muscle function
Promotes digestion and mineral absorption
So instead of fearing salt, we need to ask: What kind of salt are we consuming?
Most people need between 1.5–2.5 teaspoons of real salt per day, especially if they eat whole foods and stay active. Low-sodium diets often neglect the need for essential minerals, which can lead to fatigue, brain fog, and imbalanced electrolytes.
Salt plays a powerful role in Scripture:
Used in every offering (Leviticus 2:13)
Symbolizes purity, preservation, and God’s covenant
Jesus calls us “the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13)
Salt is more than seasoning—it’s a spiritual symbol of truth, preservation, and God’s design for health and wholeness.
Final Encouragement:
Stop asking “Is salt bad for you?” and start asking “Is my salt real?” God gave us salt as a gift, not a threat. When we choose real, unprocessed salt, we align our bodies and our faith with His perfect design.
