On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I’m talking about your “Inner GPS” - that practical, yet Divine guidance system inside of you that can help you find your way, especially when you’re feeling a little lost or if you’re unsure about where you’re headed in the new year.

I share a few personal stories, a couple of spiritual insights, and some simple daily practices to help us to better trust our intuition and to compassionately course-correct when we get off track

As we step into 2026, I encourage us to take some time to get clear on where we want to go, what we want to create, and to listen more deeply for your inner directions.

My hope is that we can all move through the world in such a way that wherever we go, we leave the people, animals, places, and planet better than how we found them. ❤️

(00:01):
Hey you guys, welcome to theKaren Kenney show. I'm wicked
happy to be here with you, because look, if you can hear
the sound of my voice, it meanswe survived 2025 we did it. We
did it. I got my new Goonieshirt on the Goonies, we never

(00:21):
say die, right? Goonies neversay die. We made it into 2026
here we are. Congratulations.I'm so happy to be here with
you. And here's one of thethings that always happens, at
least for me, maybe you canrelate. So at the start of a new
year, we start to ask ourselves, right? All these questions you
might be asking yourself. Firstof all, you might be asking

(00:44):
like, what the just happened? You're not watching this. I'm
like, grabbing my face. Okay,No, but seriously, start of a
new year, you might be askingyourself some questions like,
Where am I even going? Right?Like, where am I going? What's
my destination? What do I wantto do this year? What do I want
to create? What do I want toaccomplish? Right? Where am I

(01:06):
going? What am I doing? Who am Idoing it with, right? All of
these are really normalquestions to be asking. And for
me, it's kind of like having atreasure map, right? It's kind
of like, like asking myself, like, Okay, what treasures do I
want to, kind of, you know, tryto find this year or experience
or create or whatever. And as weknow with, you know, if you

(01:27):
watch the Goonies movies, youknow, if you didn't, oh my god,
please go watch it. It's one ofmy favorite movies of all time.
Hey, you guys, right? You alwayshear me saying that the start of
my emails and stuff. But youknow, the Goonies, they needed
to save their home, they neededto save their little town, and
they ended up finding, like thistreasure map, and it takes them

(01:49):
on this adventure, right? Andeven as adults like we need,
sometimes a Map to navigate toget us where we want to go. And
the premise of today's wholeshow is, I believe that we each
have an internal GPS. We have aninner GPS and an internal
compass, and that's what we'regoing to kind of dive into

(02:10):
today, which I think is like,Thank you Jesus. Thank you baby
Jesus, in a walnut shell, right?Like that that is actually
available to us. Now, some of usmight call it by different
names, but we're going to get tothat. So let's just break down
what a GPS actually is. What isyour inner GPS? We're going to
get to that. But the actualexternal GPS as defined, right?

(02:33):
I looked it up. So the GPSstands for a global positioning
system, or a global positionsystem, and this is what it
does. It guides us by providingprecise location, navigation and
timing information throughsignals that are sent from a
network of satellites, and ithelps everything from our

(02:56):
smartphones navigate roads tocritical infrastructure like
banking and emergency services. So it's essential, obviously,
for daily life and countlessindustries. It works by
receivers on the earth, calculating the distance from
multiple satellites to pinpointlocation, speed and directions,

(03:18):
and it guides uses from point Ato point B. And I got to tell
you, when I saw that, I juststarted cracking up laughing,
because I don't know about you,but there have definitely, I
mean, I would say pretty much, like every second of every day,
but there certainly have beensome times in my life where I
needed some help getting my assfrom point A to point B. I don't

(03:40):
know about you, and I don't justmean like in the car, I
literally mean like, oh my god,I have there were a series of my
own choices, thinking I knewbest or better, like I had a
plan. You know what A Course inMiracles always says is, like a
healed mind does not plan.Doesn't mean you don't have a

(04:01):
plan, or you don't make a plan. You just don't make that sucker
by yourself, which, for me, justpoints back to this whole inner
GPS. But let me just tell you alittle story, a couple of
stories, to put this intocontext, right? So I do not
always have a great sense ofouter direction. I mean
literally, like when we'redriving or whatever, but I sure

(04:21):
as shit know that I have aninner GPS, but this has come
through, like learnedexperiences. It's not like I was
born, just kind of automaticallyknowing this, or maybe we did
know it, but we were taught bythe world and our environments
and experiences not to trustourselves or trust the inner
knowing that we have. But here'sa couple of stories. So when I

(04:43):
was a little kid, there are two,two times specifically, that
really stand out for me, becauseI was scared out of my mind,
like scared shitless, as we say, where I'm from, right, where I
got lost as a kid. The firsttime was at the tops field fair.
If you've never been. Into thetop shield fair around here,
right? Massachusetts, NewHampshire kids, right? It's this

(05:04):
massive fair, and it'severything. It's like sights and
sounds and smells, and it's justlike an overwhelming olfactory
kind of experience, right? There's so many noises, and
there's like every kind of,like, greasy, you know what?
Candy Apples, popcorn, frieddough, dead animals on a stick,

(05:25):
like everything you could thinkof, right? Everybody's Hawking
their wares, and there's like,4h things over there, and
animals over there, and ridesand games and noises, and it's
just a lot, right? So imaginebeing a tiny person, like three
years old, or whatever it is,and your parents somehow lose
you in this massive crowd, right? So nobody's paying

(05:49):
attention. It's like probably1971 7273 I don't know. I'm
tiny, right? I'm a little kidfour. I don't know, maybe I'm
four years old. I don't rememberexactly, but I was little, and I
just remember, all of a sudden,I can viscerally, you guys, I
can literally, I have the memoryof, like, you know, when you're
a little, you know, everythingis either, like, you're looking

(06:10):
at people's thighs or knees orcrotches or whatever, like,
everything is big to you. Soremember, imagine being like,
close to the ground, becauseyou're a little person, and
you're just looking up, and allyou see are these bodies moving
past you. And I was, I was a kidthat was wicked attached to my
mother. You know? I was a kidwho would always be like,
grabbing the pant leg so to belost in a crowd like that. I

(06:34):
just remember being so scaredand crying my little eyes out,
and I was like, Oh no. Andsomebody came and helped me, and
they walked me over to like thelost and found and thank you
Jesus. Then like over thespeaker system, or however they
communicated, my parents finallyfound me, but I remember like,
just not knowing where to go orwhat to do. And of course,
because I was a little kid, right, the second time I got

(06:57):
lost, we were at a babysitter'shouse in Andover. I don't know,
I was like, had we been therebefore? I don't know, but the
whole day, there's a series ofevents about like getting stung
by a bee, and my sister tryingto get the bee away from us,
like shooting me in the facewith the hose, probably longer
than necessary, because she wasjust being mean to me.

(07:19):
But at some point we were leftunsupervised. We walked to the
park, you know, back then theywould just be like, beat it.
Like, go away. Like, even thoughwe had a babysitter, they were
like, yeah, go to the park downthe street. And my sister and I
were coming back from the park, and again, I'm a little kid,
right? And we're coming backfrom the park, and it's like,
let's do a race and see who canget home fastest, right? But of

(07:40):
course, my sister's like, I'mgoing to take the streets. And
I'm like, I'm going to cutthrough the woods. I don't know
why I thought this was a goodidea, but I start to go through
the woods, and instead ofstaying really close to, like
the tree line, the outline, Imust have wandered into a little
bit further right into thewoods, and all I remember is

(08:02):
just again, looking up at thetrees, and it was a sunny day
out, at least, and I could hearlike, all the critters, like in
the leaves and in the woods andthe birds and the things, and I
was just like lost, like Ididn't know what direction to go
in. You know, when you'relittle, like, you can't see over
bushes and trees and stuff likethat. And I just remember
standing in the woods crying, calling for my mother. I was so

(08:25):
scared and so sad, and then allof a sudden, divine
intervention. I You guys, Iswear to God, I was like, I
don't know how it happened, butI somehow wandered back towards
the tree line where I couldstart to see houses. And I was
like, please. Like I was, youknow, I was like, little
Catholic kid, so I'm sure I waspraying, asking God to help me.

(08:46):
And I wandered out of the woodsinto somebody's backyard. My
sister, I was like, had beencrying, of course. My sister
thought it was wicked, funnythat I was lost. She probably
preferred that I wasn't found. But my ass got out of the woods.
But I just remember like this, Ithis sense of like, not having
any idea of where I was inspace, not having a good sense

(09:08):
of direction. And even to thisday, now, again, I don't know
about you, but me, like, Iprefer landmarks, like I do not
when people are like, Oh, go tothe go to the second stop sign
and head west. I'm like, Whatare you talking about? Or
they're like, go north. I'mlike, you go north. I don't know
what that is. Tell me there's abig white house on the corner

(09:31):
with red shutters. You're gonnasee the fence. Go left there.
Banger right here. Like I needlandmarks. I need locations. I
need things that are grounded inspace and really, like obvious
right when I'm navigating theouter world. But my inner world
is something that I reallytrust, like, where I'm a little

(09:53):
more hesitant about gettinglost, quote, unquote out there,
like in here, and I'm touchingmy heart in here. I'm touching.
Watching my like my head, youknow, like I have a I have a
good sense of my inner GPS. AndI think we all have an inner
GPS. I think we all have aninner compass. Now, again, we
might call it by differentnames, like I call it sometimes

(10:15):
the inner teacher, right? Ofcourse, in miracles says we all
have an inner teacher, aninternal teacher. Call it your
inner voice. Call it HolySpirit. Call it your intuition.
Call it your gut instinct. Idon't care what we call it right
in this episode, I'm justcalling it your inner GPS. But I
remember the first time I wasthinking about so I've been

(10:37):
teaching yoga since like 1999but I hadn't become officially
certified or anything yet. So Igot certified in 2001 at the
Kripalu. If you guys know whatKripalu is, out in the
Berkshires in Massachusetts, Ibecame a, you know, certified
Kripalu Yoga teacher. And atthat time, I was, like, driving

(10:57):
around, like, teaching at 1000different places, alright,
that's an exaggeration, but abunch of different places. And
so like every day, I'd bedriving somewhere else to some
gym or some studio or somechurch where I rented space or
whatever. And I finally decidedthat it would be nice to, like,
have my own place. I didn't knowwhere I was going to open one. I
didn't know what I was going todo. At this point, I was living

(11:18):
in Northwood, right? So off ofRoute four. So I was driving
from Concord, from one of theplaces I had been teaching,
right? And I've been drivingthrough, driving from Concord
towards back to Northwood. Andall of a sudden, as I hit the
the Epsom traffic circle, now Ihear, I literally hear a voice,

(11:41):
right? And I say it's not. Thereare times when I say like I
heard a voice inside of me. Andwhat I mean by that sometimes is
it's more like a wordimpression, like the words are
just there. I have the words. Iknow what to say. I know what to
do. This happens to me a lotwhen I'm when I'm on stage or
speaking or telling a story, orwhatever, the words like, are

(12:03):
there. I have access to them, but sometimes it's like I
literally hear a voice in myhead. And all I can tell you is,
as I was driving down, normally,I would go around the traffic
circle, take what is called, like the second exit, meaning
just I would continue straighton on Route four. But when I'm
pulling up to this, this thing. Now, you gotta remember, it's
like 830 at night, right? It'slike 839 o'clock at night. It's

(12:26):
like late. And all of a sudden,as I'm getting up to the traffic
circle, I hear go right, like, turn right. And I was like,
wait, what? Like? But I know I'mold enough now at this point to,
like, trust that somethingsmarter than me, something more
divinely intelligent is at work.So I just bang a right, and I
start to drive down Route 28now, I had driven down Route 28

(12:49):
like going towards hooks, it andstuff 1000 times, because I also
was teaching at that time atExpress fitness, which was like
a little sister club to theexecutive in Manchester. And as
I drive down, you know, therewas always this little plaza on
there on the right hand side, ifI was going right, and it used
to have like the post office init, and there was a hair salon.

(13:12):
They were like different things. So I pull in, and as I pull in,
I can see on the left side ofthe building, it's dark, but on
the right side of the buildingin the front, all the lights are
on. And I'm like, Okay. And so,like, I'm like, Okay. I'm it's
like, it just again, it's like, pull in. So I pull in and I see
a little sign. Well, I saw thesign from the road. It said for

(13:34):
rent up on the on the largersign. So like, I pull in, like,
space for rent, and I see thelights on in the lawyer's
office, so I knock on the door, and the lawyer who owns the
building, it's not like it couldhave been any random business,
but now it's the guy that ownsthe building who, like, answers
the door. I'm like, Okay, firstof all, he's he's all the things

(13:56):
that had to line up for this tohappen. He's working late. His
lights are on, not just hisoffice light the lights in the
front office, like where hisassistant would or associate
would sit. I see the light. Isee the sign. I go in. He
answers the door. We end uptalking. Now at this point, I
have, like, no money. I have, like no money, money to start a
business. What I have is a dreamand a prayer and a hard work

(14:18):
ethic, you know what I mean. Andso he and I end up talking, and
he makes a deal with me, becausehe says to me, I like you. Kid,
that's what he said to me, Ilike you, kid, I'm going to give
you a shot. He's like, he is thedeal. So he's like, I'm going to
give you a shot. We're going tostart your rent at this we're

(14:38):
going to do it for this manymonths until you get some
traction, and still you're untilyour business starts to grow,
right? And then once you do,you'll pay me X, Y and Z. It was
like a miracle, you guys. It waslike having my prayer answered
that somebody, first of all, allthe events that led up to this,
that he was there, that it wasonly, like 15 minutes or
whatever, from my house, thatit. Like right off a route four,

(15:01):
but not so busy that peoplecouldn't pull in and out of
that, the whole thing. And I wasin that space for many years,
and it was the beginning ofquest yoga studio. And I loved
it, loved it, loved it. And thething is, this our inner GPS.
There really is, I believe, something smarter than us that
knows exactly where we are, knows where we want to go, where

(15:23):
we need to go, and it knows howto help us get there. And it
made me something, made me thinkabout something that A Course in
Miracles, and Marion Williamsonalways says, and I wrote it
down. So I wrote down the quoteso I didn't screw it up, because
I don't like to misquote otherpeople. So Marianne always says,
and this is based on, obviously,a principle in the Course of

(15:44):
Miracles. She says, the universeis self organizing and self
correcting. It is always movingin the direction of good.
How much do I love that? I'mgoing to say it again. The
universe is self organizing andit's self correcting. And we're
going to get to the selfcorrecting in the second part of

(16:05):
this. It's always moving in thedirection of good. She goes on
to say, we live in a selforganizing and self correcting
universe. For every problem, there is a potentially
miraculous solution. A closedhat deflects the miracle, while
an open hat brings it forth. This is so important, this part,

(16:29):
she says, in every moment, wemake a choice between the
heavenly awareness of ourconnection to all living things
or the hell of the delusion thatwe are separate and alone. And
she says, the mind willmanufacture according to our
choice, and whichever we choose,we will seem to experience this.

(16:55):
And I was like, Oh, my God, thisline about the mind is going to
manufacture according to ourchoice. So just like when you
get in your car, let's sayyou're driving some place and
you've never been there before.Okay, she's talking about how
the universe is self correcting. And I want to give you an
example about GPS, like when youget in your car, and like how

(17:17):
this applies, because sometimesI need to hear a little story to
make sense of what of somethingI always say, like, the whole,
this whole podcast is aboutstorytelling, telling and
spiritual principles andspirituality, right? And so I
always use stories to kind ofteach, like the dip the deeper
thing, or to share the deeperthing. And remember, as I always
say, everything I'm sharing isfor my ears first. It's to

(17:38):
remind myself the miracles andthe love and what's available to
me, right? Okay, so here's thething, whether you use Waze or
whether you use MapQuest, Iremember when we used to use
MapQuest, back in the day, wewould literally print out paper
maps. It was so great. We wouldprint out our paper directions,
and once in a while, I'll stilldo it just, just for old time

(18:00):
sake. But so whether you'reputting into your phone, you're
using Waze or Google, GoogleMaps or Mapquest or whatever,
when you type in that address oflike, where you're trying to get
to that program, that little GPSsystem is going to lay out a
path right, and it's going totell us exactly whatever voice
it's saying, like, at the end ofthis road, make a left or

(18:22):
whatever right. Now, sometimesthe map can seem a little kooky,
right? If you ever done it andit's telling you, make a U turn,
make a U turn. Make a U turn.Like, there's a glitch. I'll
sometimes just go out of the appand, like, reset my destination.
That can be really helpful, right? There are going to be
times when the system that we'reworking within isn't working, so

(18:44):
we have to make a change, rightto help ourselves. But there are
times when we have been givenvery clear instructions by our
inner GPS, by our inner teacher,by the divine intelligence, by
your intuition or your gutinstinct or Holy Spirit or
whatever, we have gotten cleardirections. It knows where we're

(19:05):
trying to go. It knows where weneed to go. It's going to help
us get there. But then sometimeswe get in our own way, and we
make a wrong turn. And the thingis, is that we're going to screw
up because we're human. We'regoing to make mistakes human,
and we're going to make wrongturns. But this is what's so
interesting about the inner GPSand the external GPS. Your ways

(19:28):
doesn't start talking to youlike an asshole, like, the ways
doesn't start being mean to youor telling you that you're
stupid or start calling younames or judging you, and it
doesn't yell at you, and itdoesn't tell you, like, doesn't
say things to you. Like, whycan't you just, like, follow
directions? Why are you makingthis habit on yourself? Why are

(19:48):
you making the trip last longer?Right? It doesn't do any of that
stuff. We might do that stuff tous, but the thing that is
consistent and knows where we'retrying to go and is trying to
help. Us get there. And whetheryou call that spiritual team,
your divine helpers, HolySpirit, God source, the
universe, the divine I don'tcare what you call it. I do

(20:11):
think that there is somethingbenevolent that is trying to
help us if we can just get outof our own ways. And when we
make mistakes, when we screw up,it's not more helpful to stop
beating ourselves up. And thisis where self compassion, self
forgiveness, kindness, mercy, grace, tenderness, right? All

(20:32):
these things come into play whenwe get lost and screw up with
the ways or the Map Quest orwhatever. Again, it doesn't
become verbally abusive to us.It doesn't say, oh, yeah, of
course, you screwed it up. Herewe go again, right? It's not
doing that. All it does is itsimply reroutes us right. If you

(20:52):
go left and you meant to goright, it will tell you take a U
turn. It's always going tosupport us so on the path that
we think we're on, there aregoing to be times when we When
we bang a UE, when we shouldn't,we're going to screw up. We're
going to go to the wrong place, but the route will just the map
will just re route us. So eventhough we might make mistakes,

(21:13):
even though the route maychange, the path might switch
up, we might think, Oh yeah, I'mgoing to be married to this
person my whole life, and thenyou end up getting divorced, you
might think, Oh, I'm going tohave this career, this job for a
really long time, or I'm goingto be a dancer or a singer, I'm
going to be a machinist, or I'mgoing to work at whatever you
think, and then all of a sudden,it's like plot twist, right? So

(21:36):
sometimes the root might change. But here's the thing about the
GPS, it doesn't matter how manymistakes you make. It doesn't
matter how many times you screwup or how many wrong turns you
take. The thing is, is when youstart to realize, like, Oh, I've
gone in the wrong direction.Don't keep driving in the wrong
direction. Sometimes you justgotta pack it. You gotta hit

(21:59):
pause. You got to forgiveyourself. Take a breather,
right? Accept like, oh, I made amistake. I got to forgive myself
for this, right? And then, andthen, and this is the important
part. We got to listen for thosedirections. Man, whether it's
turning up the volume on yourphone so you can actually hear
that little voice telling youwhere to go, or you got to
listen deeply to the innervoice. And whether you through

(22:22):
that, do that through having adaily spiritual practice, a DSP,
you take time for mindfulness orcontemplation, but you slow down
the chatter, you turn down theexternal volume, right? Maybe
you get off your phone, or youget off the social media apps
for an hour a day, or a coupleof hours, or whatever, take a
little break from all the noiseso that you can hear the true

(22:45):
voice that is trying to directyou where you're trying to go.
You know what I'm saying? So wegot to listen for directions,
and then we have to, like, takeaction. You got to stop moving
again in the right direction. You got to trust and you got to
take action. And all of thishelps, right? If, first off,
you're spending some time withyourself, figuring out where it

(23:07):
is, exactly where you want togo. And here we are with a new
year. We have a whole cleanslate to start to create the
life, the experiences, therelationships, right, the
business, whatever it is, thebook you want to write, the
things you want to do, theplaces you want to go, the
people you want to do it with, right? This is the beginning of
a fresh new year. We might bethinking about these things, but

(23:28):
you got to know where you wantto go, and then you got to pay
attention while you're gettingthere, while you're going there,
you got to know where you'regoing. You're going to know what
you're doing, because if you'renot careful, you could hurt
yourself or others if you'removing too fast, you're going to
miss the exits, and if you'renot paying attention, if you're
trying to multitask, right? Idid a whole podcast on this such

(23:51):
a long time ago called singletasking. We got to be single
tasking when you're in the car, drive, pay attention, and then
we got to learn to listen. Wegot to learn to listen for that
inner voice, for that deep, thatdeep trust that can build over
time. Right? And you startsmall, start asking right for
support in the morning. I alwayssay, like, start your day. Start

(24:15):
your day, whether you use theword God or source or universe
or higher self or higher power,or whatever it is, spend a
little time getting quiet.Right. Start with five minutes.
Just take five minutes and justbreathe and get quiet and try to
drop in and if at first youcan't do it sitting. Some people
say, I can't sit. A lot oftimes, people will say to me,

(24:41):
Oh, I can't sit and meditate. Ican't be still. You know what I
often jokingly say back to them, that must be really hard, then
when you got to go to thebathroom, here's reality. We can
all sit still for at least acouple of minutes because you do
it every day. When you go to thebathroom.
But here's the thing, I'm notkidding, even if that's the time

(25:04):
when you can sit still and takea few deep breaths and like,
become more aware, that's reallygreat, right? Because we want to
deepen our connection to ourinner GPS, that inner compass,
that inner voice, that innerteacher. And I've always said
for years and years and years tome, what GPS stands for is God's
pretty smart. God's prettysmart. And the divine and the

(25:27):
higher beings in the universe, there's a sense of our purpose.
It knows where we're trying togo. What we're trying to where
we're trying to go is we'retrying to come home to
ourselves. We're trying to comehome, return to love, come back
to the truth of ourselves, thatwe are loved, that we are good,
that we are beautiful, that weare holy, that we are worthy,
that we matter, that we are seenright, that we make a difference

(25:49):
just by being here, all of thesethings, these truths. So if you
find yourself here, here's adaily prayer. I've mentioned
this before. Anybody who knowsme has heard me say this prayer
like a gazillion times. It comesfrom A Course in Miracles,
right? And, of course, inmiracles, it's in a slightly
tiny bit different order, butthis is the one that's kind of
like sunk into the culture thesedays or forever, and it's this.

(26:13):
So each day, this is what I say.I say this at the end of all my
yoga classes, etc. So whateverthe God of your own
understanding is, whatever it isthat you ask for insight or
guidance from. I always say, Idon't care what you call it. I
don't care about the name, butknow what it is for you, right?
Well, try, you know, if you'rebuilding that relationship with
God, source, the divine, theuniverse, again, love whatever

(26:34):
you call it, and this is what weask, please have me go where you
would have me go. Have me dowhat you would have me do, have
me say what you would have mesay, and to whom. Please, use
me. Please use me. Please useme. And then I always say and so
it is Amen. So this is when weare making ourselves open for

(26:59):
business. We are makingourselves open and receptive to
guidance, to our own inner GPS.To align the assignment is
alignment. I always say, so wehave to align ourselves with
those signals right theintersection between the heavens
and the earth. Where are wegoing? What's our longitude and
latitude? Man for 2026 I'mlining my things up. I got some

(27:20):
things going on that I'm excitedabout, and I hope you do too. I
hope you have some things thatyou're leaning into and moving
towards and creating. And I'm soexcited to be able to kind of be
walking this path and on thisjourney, like with you, at least

(28:45):
think for a wicked long time,I've ended my show with saying,
you know, wherever you go, mayyou leave the animals and
yourself and the other peopleand the planet, the living
planet, you know better than howyou found it. And that's that's
the gist of this. Is that wewant to move into this new year,
leaving the people and theplaces and the animals and the

(29:05):
things that we create and do andwhatever we discover, we want to
leave it better than how wefirst found it. Wherever we go,
may we and our presence and ourlove and our energy be a
blessing. Bye, you.
