So, someone asked me recently, “How do you make sense of all the financial stuff when you’re running a business on your own?” And honestly, that’s such a great question because, let’s face it, small business finances can feel overwhelming. And not everyone has a background in finance.
Let me tell you a quick story. Back when I was a banker, I saw businesses of all sizes—startups, small shops, established small businesses. And it was fascinating to see how financial literacy (or the lack of it) could make or break a business.
But here’s the thing: even when I launched my own business, I quickly realized that personal knowledge doesn’t automatically translate into systems. It was one thing to understand financial principles and another to set up processes that worked for my unique business.
So today, we’re going to break it all down—financial statements, budgeting, and using your numbers to grow your business. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a roadmap to help you gain clarity and confidence with your finances, and you’ll be ready to make decisions that actually support your goals.
So Let’s jump in!

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
