Practicing what Zen Buddhism refers to as “the beginners mind” can lead to opening you up to new creative discoveries and creative flow. No matter your educational background, expertise, knowledge and experience around any particular subject or craft, approaching it with a beginners mind can be valuable to your creativity. This means practicing an openness, child like curiosity, and willingness to let go of any preconceived ideas. Letting go of the expectations you place on yourself about having to know what you’re doing and having to do it perfectly the first time. When we allow ourself to not have to be all knowing, we allow creative inspiration the freedom to flourish.
