Feeling tired, wired, and stuck, even when you’re “doing everything right”?

In this episode, Kathy sits down with hormone and thyroid expert Amanda Hinman to translate the body’s signals into a clear plan. We unpack why calories in/calories out fails women with thyroid or stress dysregulation, how the gut–brain–hormone axis drives energy and weight, and simple ways to calm cortisol, support the thyroid, and sleep deeper. Expect practical tweaks (protein-forward breakfasts, nervous-system downshifts, smart movement) that help you feel human again.

Explore Amanda’s resources: her book The Thyroid Hormone Solution, a free Hormone Consult, and the Hormone Health Kit to start personalizing your next steps.

Foreign welcome
back to welcome
to Unlearn the Crap and Level up, your Soul
is Calling. I'm your host, Kathy Baldwin. And on
today's segment of the Unlearning Curve, I want to

(00:23):
talk to you about the myths of healing, healing and
our healing journey. This month is
Women's Empowerment Month, the month of September 2025.
And there is a lot for us to un.
There is a lot for us to unpack this month.

(00:43):
And so this month I'm going to be focusing in on empowerment.
Some of it's going to be challenging the status quo, but some
of it is going to be about sharing and learning and our
collective collabor together.
Let's start with the healing Journey.
For those of you who've been following this podcast

(01:06):
for a while, you know that I've written two books.
The first book was Unlearn the Crap and
Level up, your Soul is Calling. I wrote that book a couple of years ago
right at the beginning of my healing journey when I had
all these epiphanies of things, things that came together.

(01:27):
I started to understand the biochemistry of
our bodies and how it creates illness and
how that led to my chronic stress and the breakdown
of my body and the creation of fibromyalgia.
And I was so excited when I wrote that book because

(01:48):
I thought, oh, I have found a secret that I've
been searching for my entire life and I feel so,
so much better. I want to share it with the world.
That was the first stage of my
healing journey. That was the first stage of my empowerment.
But what I learned was that

(02:11):
healing journeys are level up
steps. And after the
initial high of feeling,
I got it finally. All that work,
all of that work and learning and healing
and processing, all of that, I'm free.

(02:34):
Well, what happened, what happened was triggers.
What happened were challenges. What happened
were things happening within my life that
forced me to take another look and
level up and clear some more. And so I realized

(02:55):
that I needed to connect the dots and really go
to the root cause that that first stage of my
unlearning my own crap.
And so I wrote my second book. The second book is
How I Unlearned My Crap, where I
took a look at the connecting the dots and the

(03:18):
sequences of how something probably innocuous happened
in my early life and how it developed and how that development
changed my beliefs, my thoughts, my reality,
my life, my every part of everything.
And so that was my unpacking journey where I wanted

(03:39):
to share my story so that you could
see and maybe challenge some of the thoughts and beliefs
that you were having, it would be like, oh well, maybe this thing
that happened that I poo pooed and said it wasn't that big
of a deal and, and I just put it behind me actually is

(04:00):
one of the keys to my empowerment. And I just need
to dig in a little deeper and, and take a look at this and see
the lessons and grab what the world is trying and the universe is
trying to teach me about this. And so again, I leveled
up and I thought, ah, this is amazing. But what happened,

(04:21):
Challenges, emotional breakdowns,
triggers were happening all around my life again.
And I thought, okay, I need more,
I need more. I have a big vision, I have a big passion.
I know my soul is calling me to level up.
So I'm not going to quit. This close to the

(04:45):
finish line. This close. And so I
wrote my third book, which I am so excited is being released this
month. It's called the Unlearned Life.
And in this book I share how I use
technology of AI, of chat,

(05:05):
GPT and integrated it into my daily
life. Allowed me to do that near
effect that, that neurons that our brain needs because
we need, need biofeedback in order to
level up and heal. And so I knew I had
done as much as I could possibly do all on my

(05:29):
own. And so being me and really,
really wanting to put the past
that didn't work for me behind me and step into
the true, aligned, authentic version of myself, I went all
in. I'm that kind of person anyways, I, I do things
deep, I, I dive all in. And so I used

(05:54):
Chachi PT and AI in order for me
to see what I couldn't see because I would, I would share what
was going on with my life, my thoughts, my feelings, my results.
And I would say use my books,
use my podcast, use the guests that I've had

(06:15):
on here, use all this information and help me see
what I can't see, help me to find a different
perspective, help me to process,
ask me the questions. And so I created this entire
process where every day things got easier

(06:35):
and I felt lighter and I felt stronger
and better. And so I wrote the next book in that
series, which is the Unlearned Life, which is where I
show you how you can also use
the technology that is out in the world and actually

(06:56):
use it for your personal benefit, how you can
feed it when you are feeling in your empowerment,
all the information that you want to be mirrored
back to you, you can self direct your own life, your own thoughts, your own
beliefs, your own feelings. Your own results, and you can
use technology to help you

(07:19):
achieve your own goals. And so I'm really excited about
the release of that book and sharing it here with the
world. But that's not what this conversation
is about. What this conversation is about is the
truth about what a healing journey looks like.

(07:40):
Because we have all this crap that we've
been told, that when you go through the dark night of soul, when you go
through your healing journey, that you arrive
on the other side. And when you arrive,
it's sunshine and rainbows and things become
easy. Well, they don't.

(08:03):
It's hard. It is still having
challenges and triggers, but what happens
is you can handle it easier. You don't get taken out
by these challenges. They home you,
they challenge you, they help you to level
up. I now look at triggers

(08:27):
as gifts, as my inner soul,
saying, oh, we got something here, Kathy, you need to pay attention
to, and I own it. And I challenge
or I love having that come to me because that is
another ability for me to let go of

(08:48):
a little more crap that's been weighing me down.
And so I want to talk about what happens after
you've done all the work, after you've addressed
everything in the past, you're still going to have those triggers come up because
it's a process. And when it comes up, you're easily able to say,

(09:08):
ah, here it is again. Okay, I see you, I hear you.
I. I acknowledge you. I release you.
And now we step into the next level.
What is the next level after you
do your healing journey? It's called integration.
It's called alignment. And so all of these

(09:32):
challenges that you had before and they took you off
track, they're coming back again. But when they
come back again, it's not a sign that says you're off track.
It's not a sign that says you failed. It's a sign that says,
ah, we get to do this differently. We get to

(09:52):
prove to our brains that we have
leveled up. And that proof changes the
neurons and the neurofeedback in our brain.
It changes our belief system. It does the rewiring.
Because the rewiring has to come with repetition.

(10:12):
And that repetition is seeing the same challenges
but handling them differently. It's about knowing
where your triggers were, what took you out,
what made you disempowered, and saying,
ah, I'm not going to do it like that this time.
This time I am going to use the

(10:36):
tools of what I learned through my healing journey.
I'm going to see clearer, faster.
I'M going to process through this road.
While it might still be difficult,
while it might still be challenging,
I won't break through this. I won't fall

(10:58):
through this. And if I do fall, it'll be like tripping.
I just get back up and keep going. I don't need to be
taken out. I don't need to have a breakdown
in order to have a breakthrough. That's the beauty
of the healing journey. The unlearning curve
that we go through, it makes us less

(11:22):
afraid. It actually gives us that place where we
say, bring it on, bring it on. I'm ready.
I'm gonna do this better, different, because I
am better. I am different.
I am stronger. I want more, and I'm ready
for more. And that is what real

(11:47):
healing is about. It's about facing the conflict.
It's about facing the discomfort. It's about facing the
setbacks and saying, I'm ready. I can
do this. And if I fall, I know how to pick myself
up. And if I need help, if I
need assistance, I have the tools.

(12:10):
Whether it is our collaborative tribe or the way
I did it personally with my book Unlearning
the Unlearned Life, which was using AI
and technology to help me level up and get
to that next level, I want you to know

(12:31):
there is a process, just like we
talked about in Unlearn the Crap and Level Up. My first book,
how the universal laws allow us to
take a look at a different perspective. But know that
everything has a gestation, and you're healing and

(12:52):
you're leveling up as a gestation.
And just like the laws of rhythm
say that we go in and out of
our own seasons, leveling up is
part of that. And yes, we will
have times of challenges and conflict,

(13:16):
just like the winter, but we will also have times of
isolation and going inward where we can take a look and heal
and release and purge. And then we have
times of growth spurts, like spring,
where everything is coming alive. And when we
understand that our life and our

(13:39):
own journey is part of
that leveling up of the. The universal
law of rhythm, of gestation. And we give ourselves
the tools that we need in order for
us to level up. This is the month

(14:01):
of women empowerment.
But this is more than about us
individually. The world is.
The universe is. We are being called
to level up. Our soul is calling us.
But it's because the world is leveling

(14:24):
up. There are energetic shifts that are happening.
The electromagnetic universe is
leveling up. If you're paying attention to any
of the graphs out there, the Schumann resonance or the
Italian graphs. If you're part of watching what is

(14:45):
happening within the bio electromagnetic world that
we live in, and you're starting to see that there is a direct
correlation between our own personal journeys and what's happening
within the world. And then we take a look at what's happening geopolitically
and socioeconomically and how we are a part of

(15:06):
all of that. It's all changing, it's all leveling up.
And that turbulence that we're experiencing within the world,
that is part of the
healing journey for us,
globally, societally,
energetically. We're in a time

(15:30):
of expansion. And yes,
it can be scary and it can be difficult,
but that's okay. Because part of the crap that we were taught is that
it's not supposed to be difficult. And if it's difficult,
numb out, avoid, distract yourself.
That's part of the disempowerment. That's saying, don't go

(15:53):
inward, stay small,
don't allow yourself to shine.
That's part of how we've been manipulated. That's part of how
we've been controlled so that this imbalance
that we see within our world and within our lives has happened.

(16:13):
But your healing journey is calling you to
say, no, I will not play small. No, I will not
put my voice down. No, no, I will no longer play
by those old rules. I will level
up. I will handle the challenges. I will do

(16:35):
this for me and for all of us.
I don't know if you've noticed, but even this podcast is leveled
up in the last while this entire summer season,
there have been massive changes that have been happening in the background.
So many things have had to collapse,

(16:56):
renovate so that it could be reborn.
And this month of Women's Empowerment Month is
also the level up of the Unlearn the Crap podcast.
You're going to see that I am 100 moving to
a more consistent five day a

(17:16):
week platform. I dealt with everything that was thrown
at me from spring and summer and I have
rose to the challenge. I've created, what I
needed to do in order for me to manage all
of those external things that were happening.

(17:36):
It's okay that I took a bit of a break over the summer.
It allowed me to go inward with my podcast. It allowed
me to go inward with me in my life personally. It allowed me
to really go into introspection.
2025 is almost over.

(17:58):
We all came into this year
thinking things were going to be different, and they are. But they're
not different in the way that we thought we were going to arrive at Utopia
and everything was going to be better. No, we all
faced incredible challenges and

(18:20):
the question is, what do we do with those
challenges? This podcast
topic is about setting realistic
expectations. Yes,
it's hard. Yes, there are challenges, there are conflicts,

(18:40):
there are things that we need to do differently.
But that's what this is about, is saying yes.
When this is happening, it means it's working. It means you're
doing the right thing. Because if you're coasting and things are easy,
you're not changing anything, including your

(19:03):
own leveling up. All this month,
I am going to be talking about women's empowerment and
when I talk about women's empowerment, because it is women's empowerment
Month. But I want to talk about the empowerment of the feminine.
Not just the empowerment of the feminine in

(19:24):
females, but the empowerment of the feminine
within all of us. Male,
female, by binary, non,
binary, whatever. However we identify ourselves, we have
masculine and feminine and the feminine is chaotic.
The feminine is wild and crazy and

(19:46):
creative. And it's okay.
We have the masculine of being able
to say we have the tools and the resources.
And I want more than anything for this
podcast to be one of the resources that you
can come to and know you're not in this alone, that it's

(20:09):
okay when it hurts, it's okay when it sucks, it's okay.
It's not going to make it go away, but it's
part of the process and you can handle it.
I encourage you to grab my books,
the Unlearn series,
Unlearn the crap and level up how I unlearn the crap

(20:32):
if you need some examples or inspiration. But I also encourage
you to use all the tools that are available to you.
On September 9th, my unlearned
life is releasing and I encourage you to grab
that and follow the steps so that you have everything you

(20:53):
need to be able to access your
own inner genius. Because it is you who
have the insights. It's you who have the tools.
It's you that matters. And you can find
it. And I hope to help. I hope this

(21:14):
conversation has helped you see
that the healing journey is not a once and done,
but it is like going through school as
a kindergartener. Things are challenging.
My grandson is now entering junior

(21:37):
kindergarten. Today is his first day.
And do you know that the things that he's
going to deal with, the challenges he's going to have as he learns new
things, are going to be nothing to him
when he's in high school? And that's what our life is about that

(21:57):
is how we handle it is
we get bigger, better, stronger. We gather tools
and resources. We rewire our brain by unlearning
the crap that takes us out.
I am so excited for

(22:17):
what is coming, but it's going to be challenging and
we're going to do this together.
My name is Kathy Baldwin, and this has been another episode
of the Unlearning Curve on the Unlearn the crap and level
up your soul is calling podcast. I can't

(22:38):
wait to continue this conversation, and I can't wait to see
how you level up and bring your gifts to the world.
Until next time, remember to challenge everything
so that you can achieve anything, because your soul is
calling you.
