(01:00:00):
That's for any of you listening. You're probablyholding on to things or literally
hoisting things on your shoulder and
carrying heavy things aroundwith you all the time
that you don't need to be andyou can set it down.
You can let it go and you can run off andgo execute and do things and be free.
Immediately when I had the thought ofdoing that I had negative thoughts.
(01:00:20):
Well, people are going to judge you.
Oh, what is he going to think?
What is everybody else going tothink blah, blah, blah.
And there were those feelingsand thoughts
that were trying to preventme from doing that.
But choosing to be upbeat meanspunching through
that noise and doing the thingthat you're called to do.
(01:00:43):
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Thank you so much for being herelistening to upbeat
and particularly this episoderight here right now.
This episode.
Let me tell you why.
If you're here catching this one, ittells me one of two things.
One, you are most likely a close friendor family member or longtime listener,
(01:01:06):
longtime supporter of the show and of me.
And I thank you so much for being here listeninginto this one and catching it, you
know, coming back after nearlyan eight month hiatus.
And so it means a lot that you would be backhere listening in for this episode.
Or two, you might just be discoveringthis podcast.
This might be your very firsttime ever listening in.
(01:01:28):
And in that case, welcome.
Thank you for being here, too.
I hope you stick around.
And what an episode to catch because, man, okay, this this
one, this episode is kind of a turningpoint for the show.
Everything before this one, everyepisode before this one.
And I think this is number two hundredand sixty six, which is wild.
(01:01:49):
But everything before thispost was part of a
multi-year journey, five orsix year journey.
My regular uploading schedule, youknow, every Monday morning.
And then there was that eightmonth hiatus.
And now this is me coming back.
This is me posting new episodes again.
And it really is a turningpoint for the show.
The point of this episode isto share with you,
(01:02:10):
you know, why the hiatus, whatI've been up to.
And I'm going to be a little bitmore vulnerable in this
episode, probably than I ever havebeen on the show before.
And then I want to share with you what myplans are for upbeat moving forward.
Lots of exciting things ahead.
You know, I am a little bit clearerminded and more focused.
And again, like I said, more intentionalwith the show now.
(01:02:32):
So I've got some big plans.
But before I get into that, yeah, I wantto share with you why the hiatus.
So let's break it down.
You know, essentially, it wasn't burnout oranything with the podcast specifically.
Maybe it was a little bit, but I thinkI just hit a wall in life.
You know, I was struggling mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
And in October last year, just before I stoppedposting to the podcast in October
(01:02:57):
last year, I actually started therapyfor the first time ever.
And that was incredible.
One of the best things I couldhave ever done.
And I'm still doing that becauseI think it is very helpful.
It was an eye opening and kind of hard journey, but ultimately very refreshing.
And it helped me connect a lot of dots, you know, and make sense of what I was
(01:03:21):
going through and why Iam the way I am or
why I have the fears or strugglesthat I have.
You know, it was a reallygood thing for me.
And the podcast just keptcoming back to me.
I kept feeling called to it.
And there's got to be a reason for that.
And it is in the realm of like what I'mpassionate about, what I enjoy doing,
(01:03:42):
especially seeing how it impactsother people.
And especially having such incredible
conversations with the guestswho come on the show.
So there's just limitless possibilitiesand opportunities.
You never know what is rightaround the corner.
And the only way to guaranteeno success or no new
(01:04:03):
opportunities, especially in the realm ofpodcasting, is by not doing it.
So I want to make sure thatI'm doing this.
I want to make sure that I'm showing up.
If anything, just keeping promises to myselfand challenging myself in a healthy
way, you know, but hopefullyit's also reaching you.
Hopefully it's reaching more people and
(01:04:24):
hopefully it unlocks a lot ofcool new things ahead.
But I have felt very called to this.
And so I'm not ready to justbe done with that.
It's something I feel likeI need to be doing.
But yeah, with therapy, too, I thoughtit was so interesting.
There were similarities of whatI was talking about there
that I've also we've covered hereon the podcast before.
(01:04:45):
So I thought that was awesome.
And it just reminded me of somereally important messages.
It's crazy how much you're carryingthat you don't
realize you're carrying until you'regetting it checked out.
You know what I mean?
That's for any of you listening.
You're probably holding on to things or liftingthings up or literally hoisting
things on your shoulder andcarrying heavy things
around with you all the time thatyou don't need to be.
(01:05:06):
And you can set it down.
You can let it go and you can run off andgo execute and do things and be free.
And that's something I'm learning to do.
I'm definitely not perfect at it.
I struggle with it.
It's like a daily battle.
But it's, you know, a messageI want to put
out there into the world withthis podcast, too.
And speaking of, you know, heavy things withthe podcast, this is a good segue into
(01:05:30):
something I've struggled withfor a very long time.
And that is the name Upbeatwith Parker Kane.
I have struggled with that name forthis podcast for years.
But let me tell you kind ofmy process behind it.
The person who came up withthe name actually
Upbeat was my friend Addison, one of my best friends.
And he was a roommate of mine in college.
(01:05:52):
And gosh, think back.
It was 2018, 2019 when we were thinkingof a name for the podcast.
So there is kind of that sentimental attachmentto the show and to that title.
However, the word Upbeatmeans a lot to me.
And he had come up with that namewhile he was hearing
me out and while we were havinga heartfelt conversation.
(01:06:14):
For me, Upbeat is a choice.
It's a choice to choose to be upbeat.
It's a choice to be happy.
It's a choice to be hopeful.
It's a choice to hang on towhat is more positive
and listen to your more upbeator authentic voice.
Right.
Let me tell you something.
Negative thoughts don't come from God.
(01:06:35):
Negative thoughts don't come from you.
The truest, most authentic you.
Negative thoughts come fromthe adversary.
Negative thoughts come from the version ofyou, the unhappy you, the scared you,
the filled with fear and insecuritiesversion of you
that wants to keep you stuck, thatwants to keep you down.
So always paying attention towhat your thoughts are,
(01:06:58):
what is holding you back, whatis boosting you forward,
what is negative, what is positive.
And for me, choosing to be upbeat is choosingto hang on to those positive thoughts
and push through adversity, push through thethings that will try to hold you back.
A good example of this is an episode, obviouslya while back now, where I had
(01:07:21):
explained I went to a concertand I felt prompted.
Like I really needed to talk to this gentlemanat the concert and give him a hug
and tell him he matters and thathe should never give up.
And immediately when I had the thought ofdoing that, I had negative thoughts.
Well, people are going to judge you.
Oh, what is he going to think?
What is everybody else going to think?
Blah, blah, blah.
(01:07:42):
And there were those feelingsand thoughts
that were trying to preventme from doing that.
But choosing to be upbeat meanspunching through
that noise and doing the thingthat you're called to do.
And for those who know my story of, you know, getting really, really down in 2015
and not wanting to be here anymore, choosingto be upbeat meant staying, hanging on
(01:08:06):
one more day, going to theMcDonald's with my
friends, standing up and beatboxingin front of the crowd.
You know, it meant pushing through those uncomfortabletimes to stand in purpose.
That is what upbeat means to me.
And that's kind of the visionfor the show,
which has been evolving andgrowing over time.
(01:08:26):
Because I think when I very first startedthe show, I didn't realize that.
And that's why I've kind of wrestled withthis name is I think it's misleading.
I think people read upbeatand they think, oh,
you know, beatboxer, upbeatmusic, high energy.
And it's really not that once you listento these episodes, they're usually more
(01:08:47):
motivational, inspiring,focused on faith.
Mental wellness and growth, right?
Specifically with the angle of like
entrepreneurship and branding andbuilding your side hustles.
And ultimately it comes down to building somethingmeaningful and something in your
purpose and your calling and in yourcalling without losing yourself.
(01:09:09):
That's the message.
That's the message rightthere is I want to
build something meaningful withoutlosing myself.
I want you to build something meaningfulwithout losing yourself.
And I want us all to be able to stand in ourpurpose, stand in our callings, do the
things that we love, that we're passionateabout, build the side hustles, the
(01:09:32):
businesses, have the impact we want to have, help the people we want to help.
I want that for all of us.
And I think it's possible forpeople to achieve that.
And the important thing, though,is to not lose yourself.
So often, creators, entrepreneurs,speakers, right?
(01:09:53):
You name it, even dentists, the last coupleof years I've spoken at more dental
conferences and even in their work, you know, they lose
themselves to a point of not wantingto be here anymore.
I think all of us struggle with that.
And I think that is one of the single mostimportant messages to get out there is
(01:10:15):
to not is to a not only, youknow, not give up on
your dream and the things that youwant to build, but be.
Build it without losing yourselfin the process.
That's that's the message right there.
That's what upbeat means to me.
It's not just this upbeat beatboxing, highenergy positivity podcast, which I think
(01:10:37):
a lot of people think it is when they whenthey see the cover and they read the
name and they know who I amand that I beatbox.
But obviously, we take a more mentalwellness, personal growth approach.
So that's why I've wrestledwith the name.
And if you are someone who wants that kind of content, you know, you know, you can do that.
(01:10:58):
That kind of content, you know, I would encourageyou to stick around if you're
struggling with burnout, if you're strugglingwith ADHD, if you have depression,
anxiety and identity loss, if you feeloff track or stuck or lost.
Then I think these episodes are going tobe incredibly helpful for you.
(01:11:18):
And I want to make a promiseto you right now.
I will only invite guests on this showwho align with this mission.
And in my solo episodes, Iwill try my darndest.
I'll try my best to alwaysadd some kind of
value and inspire and empowerhowever I can.
And again, to me, a beat is a choice to stayhopeful, to own your story, to protect
(01:11:42):
your voice, to build something meaningfuland not lose yourself in the process.
As for what's next on the show,I can tell you I've
already interviewed like 10 or morepeople, incredible guests.
These are amazing deep diveinterviews that
have already happened and areabout to come out.
The very next episode right after thisone is with Cade Peterson.
(01:12:04):
The dude has absolutely blown my mind justin his teachings of pushing past your
comfort zone and how that is essentiallyhow we can rewire our brains.
And we go into a little bit of like neuroplasticityand some other things.
But the guy is a creator.
He's an influencer.
He was just hanging out with T-Pain.
That was as a result of his, I guess, challengeon the internet where he danced in
(01:12:30):
his car to T-Pain every day, filmedit, posted it for
like 80 or 90 days until he wasable to meet T-Pain.
So he's got a really cool creator story.
We talk about some of the things that he'shad challenges with and we talk about
his most important life lessons thatwe can all learn from.
So that is an amazing episode.
But there are even more afterthat to come.
(01:12:52):
And I'm going to sprinkle in some moresolo episodes too here and there.
But I just want to make sureI'm showing up
authentically and not like tooperformative or anything.
And I want to make sure I always have apowerful message to share with you.
As far as some other new things, theseare big question marks right now.
I don't know exactly how I'm going to do it,but I would like to build community.
(01:13:14):
That is huge.
You know, especially in this, like Isaid, loud, noisy, crazy world.
And especially with the rise of AI and justtechnology and how separate everybody
is with the internet and socialmedia and all that.
I think some of the mostimportant things to
build right now is connectionand community.
(01:13:36):
And so that's what I want to build.
I don't know exactly how I'mgoing to do it yet.
Podcasting.
I've said it a number of timesthroughout my journey.
It can feel kind of lonely because I standhere alone in my room and record.
And then I never know totallywho's listening and we
never talk or hang out or do workshopsor anything like that.
(01:13:58):
And it can feel lonely andkind of one-sided.
And I don't want that to be thecase this time around.
I want to build community.
I want to make more connectionsand make connection
happen and maybe connect youwith the guests more.
There's got to be some kind of way.
And if you have ideas, I mean, youwant to be a part of it.
Let me know.
But that's something I'mbrainstorming a lot
(01:14:19):
right now is how to make thismore of a community.
And as part of that, though, I do want toannounce I have a brand new newsletter,
which is wild that just barely I'mcreating something like that.
I mean, we've talked about thaton the show before, too.
Newsletters, email lists, thosekinds of things are very
important for creators and entrepreneursand businesses to have.
(01:14:41):
And I've never had one.
And so I challenged myself recentlyto create one.
And, you know, your patienceis appreciated
because I'm sure I have noidea what I'm doing.
And I'm sure there's going to be somekinds of mistakes or something.
But I created a newsletter.
You can find it in the links down below.
I don't I'm saying that because at the timeof recording this, I don't even know
(01:15:04):
what link I'm going to haveit attached to yet.
But I'll make sure it's linkeddown below or in the
descriptions wherever you'regetting this episode.
And it would mean the world if you could
subscribe to that email listto that newsletter.
I'm going to do personalvoice notes on it.
That's something I was thinking about the
other day was how can I makemy newsletter unique?
(01:15:24):
How can I make it something that's not justflooding people's inboxes, you know,
giving them more crap that they'regoing to delete essentially.
Right.
So an idea that I had was to always starteach newsletter with a voice memo,
whether it's about that episode or somethingelse that's on my heart to share.
And then the latest episode, some additional
insights from me and somethingI'm excited about,
(01:15:47):
too, is sharing more about theguests that come on the
show, which you can get that on mywebsite, too, sometimes.
But that's the other thingwith podcasting is
you can only put so muchin the description.
And I feel like you can't really if you don'tknow who the guest is, for example,
it's hard to fully know kind of theirvibe and what they're about.
So I'm going to put more of that in the
newsletters, as well as some coolproducts that I'm using,
(01:16:09):
some things that have been working forme, some things that I'm building,
any of the community stuff that I buildis going to go in there.
And hopefully, you know, just as that grows,
there's going to be more coolthings over time.
But I want to make sure it'svaluable and I want to
make sure that upbeat is a placefor us to kind of
reset, refresh, recharge.
(01:16:31):
And so each newsletter is goingto come out on Wednesdays.
Each newsletter is going tokind of reference
the that week's episode andit'll be connected.
I'm thinking usually with a challenge forthat week or until the next episode,
something that we can wecan be working on
and improving so that we'realways learning,
(01:16:53):
always improving, always mindful, alwaysgrowing, those kinds of things.
So subscribe to the newsletter.
Make sure you're subscribed to the podcasttoo and that you're following.
And you know, my website is parkercane.co,parkercane.co.
That's where you can find all my socialmedia links and stuff.
But we'd love to have you alongfor the journey.
And again, if you're stillwith me now, even
(01:17:14):
after the hiatus, I appreciateyou being here.
Please share it out.
I hope to grow this in thenext couple of weeks.
And just as we continue to show upand as we continue to build,
I hope that this gets some moremomentum and we can
start getting this message outthere to the world.
So thank you so much for everythingyou guys do.
Thank you for supporting.
(01:17:36):
Much love.
I will see you in the next one.
Until then, stay upbeat.
