The genre of music known as a rap is a controversial subject among Christians. There have been statements made about rap in favor of it, and there have been statements that directly opposes it. Nevertheless, rap music is one of the most popular genres of music today. It is not only national but international. So, what about the Christian and rap? Is it an appropriate genre of music for the Christian? To answer this question and others like it, we must go back and view its history; namely, its origin and purpose.
