This is our very first re-release! We thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Dr. Leslie Fuller, ND, and we look forward to welcoming her back soon! We hope you enjoy it this time around as much as we did the day we recorded it!

Sweaty palms. Stomach in knots. Heart pounding. Shallow breath. Brain fog. Clouded judgment. Sound familiar? We’ve all experienced stress and anxiety. Today, Dr. Leslie Fuller, N.D. joins Mike and Helena to talk about what’s going on in the body when we feel stressed and anxious.
Stress and anxiety impact so many facets of our lives and have direct effects on our physical and mental health. Join us as Dr. Fuller helps us understand the connections among the nervous system, brain and the gut; different types of stress; the importance of language; and the role fear plays. We talk about social media, work-related stress, PTSD, the role of pharmaceuticals, and the facilitated use of psychedelics.
The episode is a great primer on what happens when you experience stress and anxiety in the short-term and long-term. Chronic stress and intermittent high-stress is something that is more common than ever before—Mike and Helena see it in their clients everyday. In fact, stressed out individuals are Helena’s area of speciality. Join us for a riveting discussion and learn more about your lightning bolts (this will make sense when you listen!), your response to stress, and, why every person’s response to stress and anxiety are as unique as their fingerprints.
Dr. Leslie is a 2009 graduate of NUNM, where she was a clinical educator for 14 years (involving 10 years of specific clinical Neurology Rotation, attending physician at Outside In, and working in a certified primary care home) and an assistant professor overseeing Neurology Curriculum. She teaches lab diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and pharmacology for the Doctorate of Chiropractor program, and teaches Nutrition for Neurologic Conditions in the Doctorate of Clinical Nutrition Program. During her time at UO, she worked for a nonprofit called World Wheelchair Sports where she worked with kids and families. It was there that she realized how poorly the medical system was set up to really help individuals with neurologic conditions or disabilities receive medical care that was specialized to them.
Areas of interest include brain injury, dysautonomia, Parkinson’s disease, cognitive impairment (including Alzheimer’s and mild cognitive impairment), multiple sclerosis, rare neurologic conditions, headache and migraine, peripheral neuropathy, and pain conditions (including fibromyalgia). Her patient base is currently mostly adults (over 16) with any of these conditions or more. Falling in love with the brain and spinal cord at 19, Dr. Leslie really deeply loves to learn about things that have a neurologic underpinning or connection!
