Speaker 2 (00:32):
Welcome to A Queen's Opinion.
My name is Queen, my voice, myopinion and your listening ears
this episode.
We are talking about overratedValentine's Day.
The holiday is approaching andI want to drop this opinion in
your ears before you go out andpurchase those flowers, hearts

(00:56):
and candy.
Why do we celebrate Valentine'sDay?
Do we even know where thisholiday stems from Day?
Do we even know where thisholiday stems from?
Do you really know whyValentine's Day was created?
Do you know Valentine's Day hasa dark meaning in history?
I always thought Valentine'sDay was overrated and I always

(01:19):
thought Valentine's Day was awaste of money.
So I started to dig into thisholiday and why we are so
excited for this one day of love.
I want to take just a moment toshare a little history with you
regarding Valentine's Day andhow we ended up with this
holiday.

(01:39):
It's based off a pagan festivalthat took place in February
called La Pachelia.
During the festival, animalswere killed and the blood was
thrown on the women to representfertility and easy childbirth.
Pagans really thought the bloodwould help women with their

(02:00):
fertility problem.
Now, this already sounds like ahot mess to me.
Why would women want animalblood thrown on them?
I guess.
Back in those days, doctorsreally didn't know what the hell
they were doing and women wereexpendable.
The internet had basically twostories as to how this holiday

(02:24):
came about and is celebratedtoday.
You see, historicallyValentine's or should I say St
Valentine's Day according toBritanniacom stated that a
bishop named St Valentine wrotea letter to a friend's daughter
and signed the letter from yourValentine.

(02:47):
Saint Valentine was a Christianman who died a martyr.
You see, the bishops and orbishops back in the early Roman
days were punished for marryingcouples after it was outlawed.
Yet Saint Valentine ministeredto the persecuted Christians and
defied orders of not marryingcouples, which spared the men

(03:12):
from going to war.
Now this doesn't sound like alove relationship, but an
understanding between two people.
Love may not have been part oftheir story, which is another
way.
Women were mistreated and notrespected even back in those
days.
So St Valentine was given aholiday for his work in the

(03:37):
church and helping persecutedChristians.
Somewhere down the line, afestival was created by the
Romans and it was called StValentine's Day or Festival of
Celebration.
And then the church justdeclared the festival would be
called St Valentine's Day,celebrated February the 14th,

(04:01):
because the bishop who sent.
He was a Christian man who dieda martyr.
He was a clergyman who waspersecuted by the Christians and
he died and was buried onFebruary the 14th.

(04:22):
You won't find St Valentine inthe Bible.
If you're looking for him, nope, you won't find him.
You will not find St Valentinein the Bible.
I thought that was odd.
He was a saint, don't you thinkJesus would have mentioned him

(04:43):
somewhere in the Bible?
But that's another episode, notthis one.
After I started looking intothis Valentine's Day, I realized
that my opinion may be closerto the right thinking that
Valentine's Day is overrated andwe don't need a holiday to

(05:05):
celebrate the people we love.
We have people going out herepurchasing love cards, candy and
flowers.
People going out herepurchasing love cards, candy and
flowers all sorts ofmaterialistic items to show the
world you love this person inyour life.
There is no amount of candythat can express my love for my
husband.

(05:25):
He can't buy enough candy forme to show me how he feels about
me.
Show me how he feels about me.
He doesn't need to spend moneylike that to buy me candy by the
pound to show me his love.
If you're going to give a card, speak your written words from
your heart or just tell me inperson, or even a phone call.

(05:51):
Let me hear your expressions, let me hear the words directly
from you.
Flowers well, flowers arebeautiful.
My husband knows I love flowers.
Flowers to me, are anexpression of something of

(06:11):
nature.
It shows life in a beautifulway.
Now, some people don't reallycare too much about flowers and
my husband is one of thosepeople.
He says he doesn't likepurchasing flowers because all
they're going to do is die in acouple of days and that is a
waste of money from hisperspective.

(06:32):
Yes, it's true, flowers willdie in a few days, and plants
would eventually as well, butthe point is that flowers and
plants are from Mother Nature'searth.
I look at a flower and I relatethem to a relationship.
When you first meet the person,it's like planting the seed.

(06:57):
As you get to know each other, the flowers begin to grow, and
how long it lives depends on thecare you give it.
It needs nutrients, water, theright environment and atmosphere
to grow, just like arelationship.
If you have taken good care ofthe flowers, they will last for

(07:19):
a lifetime, reproducing,regrowing and strengthening
their roots.
So, because of my connectionwith flowers and relationships.
That's why I love them.
Flowers and plants.
Just like most holidays in thiscommercialized world, flowers

(07:39):
are given a bad reputation.
For Valentine's Day, peoplegive candy cards and flowers.
Which flowers look pretty for afew days and it might go bad by
the end of the week and thecard is either trashed and
forgotten or put away as amemory or until next time.

(08:00):
Listen, if you're going toparticipate in this holiday, I
suggest you go all out for yourloved one.
If this is the only day of theyear that you show them you love
them, care for them, appreciatethem, then go all out for the
holiday.
Give them more than a dozen ofroses how about a dozen of roses

(08:27):
for 14 days, all the way uptill 14th of February.
Don't just buy a card.
Give her a card 14 days in arow, written by you, not
Hallmark.
Don't just give her candy forone day.
Give her Hershey kisses everyday and follow it up with a kiss

(08:51):
from you.
If you're going to participatein the overrated Valentine's Day
celebration, go big or go homeor just don't participate.
I'm going to upset a few people, but it's okay.
I'm sorry to all the peopleparticipating this holiday and

(09:14):
your loved one only shows youlove.
