If you reflect on some of the major adversities in life, who are the people who picked you up and encouraged you to carry on? Whether it is friends, family or significant other, having someone walk you through is critical for bouncing back.  But what if it isn’t easy to connect with others?

Amid the early challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Kierstead family, like many others, were simply trying to navigate these uncertain times. Little did they know that they were about to face a profound and life-altering tragedy that would test the very essence of their resilience.

Just a month into the pandemic in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada a lone man began a series of shootings and setting fires that would take the life of several community members.  On that fateful day the Kiersteads lost a very special family member, leaving them to pick up the pieces associate with complex trauma, grief and loss, at a time when communities were isolating.

In this inspiring episode we meet the remarkable mother-daughter duo, Jenny and Sophia Kierstead. Jenny, a somatic therapist, author, and leader in yoga and mindfulness, stands as a beacon of strength and wisdom.  Alongside her is Sophia, a high school student and Co-CEO of Girl on Fire Empowerment, whose courage and resilience shine as brightly as her mother.

Together, they offer profound insights into recovering from trauma, the power of self-care, and the resilience practices that have guided them through the darkest of days.
