her modern witchcraft series, the modern witchcraft book of
new magic.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Hi Julia, hi Gia Yay.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
We are so excited to
have you back.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Yeah, thank you for
having me again.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
I always love
chatting with you ladies and
listening to your podcast too,so I'm excited Just this time
this time I feel a little sadbecause I don't have my
witchcraft cocktail at nineo'clock in the morning on
Daylight Savings Day.
I think I need that right now.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Yeah, I was going to.
I actually have my Pisces MoonPotion from the Real because I
make a lot of drinks so I can'tdrink that much, so like I put
them in bottles, Sometimes Ifreeze them.
If they're going to freeze, OK,and so I'm like planning to, I
could probably go grab that.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Not that I can pour
it.
For you, geez, I'm jealous, Iwant, I want I did think about
making one.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I was like I wonder
probably the ingredients.
I could, totally, I'm like, butit's like nine, like eight.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I was like I don't
know if I can handle that.
We're not in Vegas, you know,it's just I am.
I'm in.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Vegas.
I mean, I'm at my house, butI'm in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
It's a whole vibe
thing.
So, julia, you have a new bookout, and so why don't you tell
us a little bit about your book?
I'm excited for it.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, I have to say,
because I was like I loved that
podcast that you had with Ithink it was Kristen Leo or
something, yes, and I was like,oh my God, now I'm going to talk
, Like she's saying suchwonderful stuff, like what in
the world am I going to say thatpeople haven't heard before?
Speaker 3 (02:13):
But you know, what I
think is amazing is, you know we
have people come on the showand they have very similar
outlooks, but one person can saysomething that really resonates
more with a listener than saythe other person did, and so you
know, I never have an issuewith bringing on similar guests,
and you know our guestsabsolutely loved you in the past
(02:36):
, so I love it.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
We can always talk
about like mixology too, you
know, and also like I've beenhere before, so you know I love
talking about like just beingthe author experience because
it's very interesting this timearound.
But yeah, my new book, theModern Witchcraft Book of Moon
Magic I don't know if you guyshave my Moon Mixology, moon
Magic Mixology book or not.
(03:00):
Ok, so I know, like WitchcraftCocktail for sure.
But yeah, adam's Media wantedto put out another of their
Modern Witch series, just kindof like Llewelyn has their books
for the Sabbaths and theholidays, adam's has their
Modern Witchcraft series and Ialready did, I mean, magic
Mixology with them, and so theyreached out to me about writing
(03:20):
this book.
And obviously, yes, because Ilove Moon Magic.
You know that's the whole likebehind.
What I do with WitchcraftCocktails is doing drinks for
the moon and everything likethat, and so there's so many
good Moon Magic books out thereand so obviously I try and add
something to it if I can andprovide enough information that
(03:42):
people can adapt it to tothemselves.
So I'm really excited about it.
I was just actually readinggood read reviews on the book
last night slash this morning.
I know it's not even the booksare out yet, because coming out
right on the solstice or theequinox sorry, but they like
team up with our copydistributors like Net Galley or
(04:05):
something, and there's likeapproved pre-readers.
I'm so like wow, it was justexciting to read it before it
comes out.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Because, like someone
other than myself, Well, I did
pre-order your book, so I amreally excited about that.
One thing I love about yourbooks because I have some of the
modern witchcraft or I thinkthere's two of them, because you
did one on astrology as well, correct?
(04:32):
Yes, I did the astrology one,and so I have that one as well.
And I love how you put thingsin simple terms because, like,
when it comes to astrology, Iget super confused and so I'm
just wondering if it really justdoesn't resonate with me.
But that's a whole, nothersubject.
But you put things in simpleterms and I love that, because
(04:56):
then it's easier for me orbeginners to understand.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Yeah, yeah.
There's so much with astrologyLike it's really just you got to
take it bite size.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
There's a reason why
it's a whole other profession,
you know right.
So, yeah, it's just, and Ithink the moon is actually a
great place to start with thathonestly, because it's like a
great way that look at thezodiac signs and the moon and
how that interacts, you know, the new moon versus the full
moon so I think that's a nice, you know, simple place to start
for learning those kinds ofthings.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Yeah, awesome, so oh,
go ahead.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Christy Go ahead Well
, so as a recording.
Today we're in a new moon, so,and we were kind of talking in
the pre recording before you goton about the different
conflicting messages out there.
But you know, like on the newmoon is new beginnings and full
moon is released right or viceversa.
So I've heard both and I wantedto get your take on on that.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yeah, and that's the
thing is like I love about like
witchcraft or magical practicesis we can improvise and make
them work for how we're feeling, and I think it's kind of both.
You know it's both.
It's really a matter of youpersonally.
I think at different seasons ofyour life you're also going to
feel differently.
You know we all have differentastrological birth charts so you
(06:18):
know different new moon or fullmoon might feel differently for
us.
It's funny because I was likestarting YouTube.
It's like one of the excitingthings I'm really excited about
now and I was just recording anew moon magic video and how I
kind of look at it is more likewaxing cycle versus the way
cycle, and the new moon and thefull moon are on the cusp of
(06:39):
both of those kinds of energiesand so for some people they
prefer to to rest and cleanseand tune in at the new moon and
some people prefer to setintentions to grow with the
waxing light, and then somepeople with full moon it's more
about like a celebration or likejust the mood and it's full
beauty and power.
(06:59):
Some witches will castmanifestation and spells around
then and other people feel theneed to release.
So I think it's just also beingin tune with yourself, and
that's kind of what the moon isall about, you know, is your own
intuitive feeling.
But yeah, I mean to dive intolike more of like the full moon
thing.
Although I can talk forever,it's like I don't want to keep
(07:20):
going, so please go, I'm like.
I'm going, I can feel a tangentcoming.
I don't want to like, you know,um, yeah, but like.
So, specifically with the newmoon, the new moon is always
going to be in the same signthat the sun is in, so if it's
tourist season, the new moon isgoing to be in tourists.
(07:42):
You guys already obviously knowthat, but anyway.
And so the thing about that is,I do really see the new moon as
this really potent time ofdivine alignment.
You know, you think of the sunas like, you know your conscious
awareness, you know wakingreality, your creative life
force, you know ego, identityand the moon being, you know,
reflecting back right the soul, our sense of feeling or
(08:06):
emotional landscape, thatintuitive aspect that provides
insight into our waking reality.
And so the alignment of the newmoon and the sun is just like
this divine alignment of themeeting of those forces in our
lives and within ourselves, andnot just in our perspective from
Earth.
So it is a great time forsetting intentions.
(08:28):
But also the waxing crescent, when you begin to see the moon,
still has that rush of renewaland hope.
So for people who prefer torest at the new moon, they might
like work with the waxingcrescent moon instead.
The only thing about that isthen you have to like reference.
What sign the waxing crescent is, you don't know, is easily, and
(08:48):
the full moon, in comparison,is opposite, where it's always
going to be the opposite sign, right.
And so the thing there is thatit can be like a confliction of
energies, but if you can findbalance between them, that's
where great things arise.
And so for some people, thatbalance between them can be
releasing as things areilluminated, but also can be
super powerful.
I mean there's like full moonrituals and manifestation and
(09:13):
leaning into that, for you knowa lot of witches, and I think
there's a reason.
It is a powerful moment ofwhere the moon is in contrast to
the sun and holding its powerand space and full illumination.
So different cycles are justgoing to feel differently.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
That's interesting.
So because you do hear so muchinformation out there, so it's
kind of hard to pull.
I should be doing this, Ishould be doing that.
But I like that relation ofwhat feels good for you.
What feels right for you Is ita intention setting,
manifestation, is it a release.
I kind of like the idea of rest.
(09:50):
That's a good one.
I can do some rest, so it mightbe a rest day today, yeah, but
I do.
I like that because it can bevery overwhelming and you never
know what's right, becausethere's so much information now,
so much.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yeah, probably the
worst person to talk to about
that, because I'm always likewell, it's like, what is it that
you feel you know?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Well, no, I think
that's important, though.
Yeah, you know it's what you'refeeling, what feels good to you
, and yeah, so I think you'rethe best person.
I think you're the best person.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yeah, I can say for
myself too.
Like you know, I think it'sjust really the season of life
that you live in, because I'mlike in this interesting space
where, like there's like thereal in depth of cold witchcraft
, you know, aspect, and thenthere's like the more you know
magic, and then also like thenew age, like they're all kind
of like different categories ofpeople, and I feel like I kind
of like in the middle of allthose things and like there can
(10:50):
be a lot about talking aboutdiscipline and your spiritual or
magic or witchcraft practice, and I think that is really
important.
But also like life's freakingcomplicated and I I know for
myself like I've just been ingoing through so many changes
and shifts.
You know, moving to Arizona, Ican settled here, my dad dying,
and I'm just like you know, you've you've got to learn to
(11:13):
tune into yourself a little bitand just like what's most
approachable for you and what doyou need in your life right now
, cause it's otherwise.
You just can't maintain it ifit's not adaptable.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Yeah, agreed, tell us
a little more about your book.
Yeah, that's what I was goingto ask you.
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Okay, I'll tell you
what I'm most excited.
I'll give you guys like I'll gothrough the contents and I hope
that they sent you the bookcopies.
I have to double check.
I know I sent them yourinformation, but oh, I haven't
received them yet.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Okay, hopefully
they're coming, but, like I said
, I also pre-ordered your book,so so I'm going to have multiple
copies and I don't.
I don't hate that.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
And then I wanted to
say too like this is so, like I,
even before I became like awitchcraft author, I wanted to
be like a fantasy or fictionauthor as a kid and so I'd smell
books and like, when you get it, just smell it, because like it
smells like like a garden herbfor some reason.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Oh, I'm so excited to
smell this book.
I'm so excited it's a scratchysniff.
I love it.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
It's like, it's like
interesting.
I know, like I'm like mypartner he he's a chef, so he
loves to cook and he likes itand I'm kind of like, wait, he's
like, what herbs is that?
You know, like I like herbs too, but like this is like more
like a cilantro, or like it'snot like rosemary, you know.
So I'm just like.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
I like smelling books
too, so this will be.
I'm very excited to smell yourbook, that's how I smell your
book.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah, yeah, I'm so
excited to smell your book.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Yeah, I know it's so
funny to say it and, like
through some, I'm alsomentioning that cause I wasn't
sure.
I'm like meeting with localindie fiction fantasy authors
and I'm like, wow, mind-bogglingexperience, I love them out
here, and so they.
They're like it might just bethe package you got, but then we
went to like our local Barnesand Noble the other day and it
was so funny because my book'snot out yet, but I'm doing a
(13:00):
launch event there and so theyalready had it on the show, oh
no, no.
Yeah, it was totally fine though, but like we went and smelled
it and we're like, oh, it smellsjust like it, so it's just
whatever they use.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
That's awesome though
.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Sorry for that
tangent, but yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
I'll just no.
But I'm sitting here wondering.
I'm like okay, I have awitchcraft section on my
bookshelf, so now I'm gonna goand smell every single one of
them.
And be like is because I'mwondering if it's something with
regards to the energy of thebook yeah, oh, I'm not like that
(13:38):
.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Yeah, that's a good
thing.
Yes, I have to say like.
The other thing too is like Ilove about smelling books.
When you like, go to like alocal metaphysical shop.
It depends on the location, buta lot of them smell like
incense and then you just takeon the book and it's just like
it is amazing, a wholeexperience.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Anyway, not to like
talk on it all, so all of our
listeners.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Smell your books.
Make sure you smell your books.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
It's not weird, it's
normal.
Okay, oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Yeah, but anyway,
I'll just go to the table of
contents and then talk aboutlike a couple things that I'm
really excited about with thebook and so we talk about.
We start with a little bit oflike witchcraft and the moon,
just basics, history, a littlebit of science.
There was some really cool newresearch which I'm probably
going to talk about, that I wasexcited to include in there.
But the whole basis of thatchapter is just like to kind of
(14:26):
just remind you that everysingle moment of every single
day you're connected to the moon, like there's never a
separation of not beingconnected versus being connected
.
At play of partner evolution, the moon studied our experience
of the seasons, our length ofday.
So it's just, you know like weevolved in tune with that.
Then, of course, the moon phases.
(14:48):
You know the energy of the moonphases and you know from
general energy perspective andastrology there, but also just
magically how to use it,different things that you can
take the messages, and then alsospecial lunar occasions,
eclipses, blue, black moons, allthose things.
Then we go into the seasonalspell casting, so working with
(15:10):
the moon through the seasons.
I can talk so much.
I'm sorry I need to work on myelevator pitch.
I'm so sorry, I'm like how do I?
Speaker 1 (15:18):
You don't want your
elevator pitch, I know.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
I know, I know, I'm
like oh my god, I'm dragging on.
I was going to say like I writetoo much and like, in the
editing process they're likesomehow you managed to add even
more words and now we have tocut out 10,000 words, so we had
to go through.
Oh my god, we had to cut outAnyway.
So that's just like mean andnot shallow stress.
(15:41):
I need to like learn to cutdown.
Then moon sign magic.
So what does the moon mean Ineach sign?
Just general energy, kind of togive the bits and pieces of
each aspect they can take andmix and match what works for
them.
Lunar correspondences they'retalking about lunar deities,
ingredients, minerals, all thosethings.
(16:03):
Then just general lunar spellcasting for people that are
beginners, things of likeworking their relationship with
the moon, keeping a lunargrimoire, integrating the moon
into your altar, working withenergy.
So if someone brand new tomagic, they can, like you know,
understand the basics in orderto do the spells.
Then there's spells for thespell section, for you know the
(16:25):
moon phases, so specifically howeach moon can benefit your
magic or your intentions thatyou set.
Then special occasion moonspells and rituals, seasonal
moon spells, moon sign spellsand then moon deity spells.
So I tried to put as much aspossible, but probably not when
(16:47):
you spread yourself thin ortrying to do too much.
I just hope I gauge section.
You know it's proper do, butyeah, yeah, I'm sure you did.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I'm so excited for
this.
Yay, I know, I went topre-order it last night and then
I got distracted.
I'm like, oh, I need topre-order this.
So I'm very excited for yournew book.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Don't pre-order it,
because it's coming in, yeah,
yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Or pre-order it if
you want multiple copies.
That's true, that's true, yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
And I think those
sections that I'm sorry, I'm so
excited, the sections that I'mmost excited about, are also
talking about the first chapterand also the seasonal.
Obviously I love all of it, youknow, but I'm really excited
about the first chapter becauseI think there's just a lot of I
was an anthropology degree, Itook astronomy and stuff, not
like a strommer, so like not to.
(17:38):
You know, people always talkabout like things like I'm not
in college but I'm like alsolike, keep it grounded.
I'm not like a professional inthat respect, but you know just
certain facts about, like youknow, the moon and how we
involved in tune with it.
Because I think it's so easywhen your, you know your sky is
crowded and you can't see themoon, to kind of forget your
(17:59):
inherent connection to it atevery single moment of every
single day and just realizing, like our experience of life has
been entirely defined by themoon.
And I love that part of the bookfor that reason, because it's
just reminding you of thatintrinsic connection.
It's not just the new or thefull moon, it's a part of your
every single day, every singlemoment.
(18:20):
And then I love talking aboutthe seasonal aspect because we
all hear about things like thestrawberry, you know, the pink
moon and it's so easy to getcaught into, like the monthly
moon names, which I do talkabout that, but more through,
the lens of the moon isintertwined with the seasons,
right, talking about how themoon has helped or, you know,
(18:42):
kind of evolved your experienceof life and how that's in tune
with our experience of theseasons, you know, with
harvesting and plant life.
And so that way, likeregardless of what name a moon
is called, which is also goingto depend on your locality,
right, that comes from you know, indigenous traditions to the
location that you're at, butjust the general seasonal energy
(19:03):
.
So if there's someone who likesworking with the seasonal chefs
, you know, or like a greenwitch in that aspect it's
blending those things together, like the moon is a seasonal
practice too.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I love it.
I know I love talking about themoon I like, and the guests
we've had on recently and nowthis I'm like, oh, the moon is
really screaming at me.
I mean, this is it's yeah, lotsof moon stuff and I just I
think it's fantastic that welearn to appreciate it for
everything it has done and doesfor us and the energy that we
(19:37):
can use from it to cultivate, and just it's just beautiful.
I love all the conversationsright now with the moon, so
thank you.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Yeah, of course.
So what was your experience inwriting this book?
Because this is now your fourthbook.
So what was your experiencewriting this one compared to,
say, the one just before that?
The astrology?
Speaker 4 (20:02):
I actually so excited
to talk about it because I feel
like this book there's justlike, obviously, every book is
an experience writing that it'stransitional and transformation.
I'm really excited about thisone.
It's just so funny because, like, this is something else in
the other podcast she talkedabout.
But you know just how the moonconnects us all, but also her
time, you know, and connectingto our ancestors or a child of
(20:25):
the moon.
I don't want to like trauma dump, so, but my dad died while I
was writing this book and so, orlike during the editing process
and the things, adams mediaspecifically, they give me, like
you know, the initialmanuscript.
You have two months to write andthen there's a whole editing
process.
So it's just like you know youcan't do anything else but that
(20:48):
and then, like, right afterturning in the manuscript and
beginning the editing process,my dad passing away and going
back to my childhood home andI'm like what a great literal
metaphor for what the moonrepresents.
You know, an astrology, butalso just the experience of.
You know, I worked in ametaphysical shop for years and
(21:08):
people would come in and ask anddo moon rituals and things like
that and guiding people as towhat spells to do or how to work
with them in their practice andso kind of bringing that energy
back, of just being able todump all the knowledge that I
love to talk about, and andhaving a book agent this time
around definitely changed theexperience to where now I'm
(21:32):
feeling much more prepared forthe launch of this book than I
ever have.
So I'm excited, yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
That's amazing.
What are you hoping that thereaders of your book get out of
it in the end?
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Yeah, I think, just
finding a way to work with the
moon that works for them.
You know, with all of my spellwork I try and like give things
that people can change orimprovise according to them.
So there's appendix in the back.
Appendix in the back.
Yeah, it's like you know whatI'd like to use the excuse of
the time zone, even though inArizona we don't change times.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
I'm just going to say
We'll give that to you.
Okay, we'll give it to you.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Yeah, fair.
But you know, just reference interms of just energetically,
what kinds of crystals or herbsmight relate to the moon in a
certain sign.
There's a lot of differentbeliefs on those kinds of things
, so I'm just kind of giving mysuggestions there.
But that way, if someone likewants to change a certain spell
around to match whatever signthe moon is in, they can do that
(22:33):
.
So, yeah, I just I think ifpeople can walk away with
remembering their intrinsicconnection to the moon, feeling
more naturally in tune with itrather than feeling it so
separate from themselves, andbeing able to take the things
that work for them to anadoptable, sustainable practice
we don't have to also talk justabout this, but like honestly,
(22:54):
Well, I was going to go
Speaker 3 (22:56):
into something else
now but you know, I'm really
excited that you're starting aYouTube channel, but I watch
your TikToks and I love thedrinks that you make and you
know your creativity with makingthose TikToks Just absolutely
amazing but also the creativityand of the drinks that you make
(23:16):
and your potions and just thebeauty of it.
And then I also saw HillaryBurton Morgan, because you did a
drink for her book when thatcame out and so she reposted
your TikTok or your Instagram atthat time, which I thought was
amazing too.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
And I was so excited
for you.
Yeah, that was like anunbelievable moment for me, so
funny.
So yesterday I went to likeanother author Q&A because for
the first time I feel like doingbook launch stuff now, which
I've never done before, right.
And so I went to another authorQ&A and like one question, they
asked like if a famous authorcould mention you, who would it
(23:53):
be?
And like in my cause I'm liketrying to write down like
questions, so like for my Q&A wecan think about those kinds of
things, and I'm like, oh well, that already happened for me
because that was freakingawesome.
But yeah, she actually, like Inoticed her follow me at some
point, like like a year and ahalf, two years ago I don't know
how long it's been and I waslike, is this real, you know?
(24:15):
And then, yeah, and so thenlike when I saw that she was
coming out with her grandma girlbook and I know she also has
her like her company MFLibations with her husband, and
so I like I was like, oh well, you know she follows my work,
let me just reach out and see ifyou want me to create a
cocktail for her release.
(24:36):
Oh my God, and I love that youbrought that up because the
intertwines just with everythinghere.
Because it was, I was like yes, yes, and you know she was
interested and so, like you know, coordinating with her team to
make that recipe.
And it was crazy because, likeyou know, right in the middle of
this my dad passed away.
So I was like flying toCalifornia and like trying to
(24:57):
take some like demo pictures andwork on the recipe so I could
share with them when I wasmaking.
So it was like this whole crazytimeline but it was I loved.
Like her spirit was reallysurprising, because when you
hear Blockberry Gin, you're like, oh, is this going to be like
Blackberry, brandy or Blackberrybefore, but no, it's like
(25:18):
really and truly a gin.
You know that herbal and ginsare all different.
I should say that you know, because there's a lot of
different.
There's London Dry, you know, versus Warman, you know herbal
gin and it like it has that,it's like gin, but it has a back
note of just the essence ofBlackberry, which is what I love
about.
You know, if you do drinkalcohol although now there's
(25:39):
zero proof spirits so you cancome up with equivalent versions
now is just kind of gettingthat essence of an ingredient.
You know the spirits of it.
So yeah, it was so cool makingthat recipe.
Do you have any specificquestions about that?
Speaker 3 (25:55):
No, I mean, I didn't
actually make it so, but I know,
I know that you had posted therecipe and everything as well,
but I was just I just remember,I was watching it and I was like
, oh my God, that's so beautiful.
And then she, then she repostedit.
I was like, yes, julia, I wasso excited for you and also I'm
(26:15):
a huge one tree fan, so she waslike, not that, I'm like, you
know, it's not like we talk alot or anything.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
You know, we just
kind of had that interaction
around her book, but like she'slike in my interactions with her
she's like really awesome, justthe energy and authenticity is
just amazing.
But yeah, like when shereposted that, I got like 2k
followers from that and I'm like, oh my God, because it's like
so hard to like, the thing thatpeople do like to draw on these
(26:43):
platforms is just post, post, post, post.
I'm like I have to actuallymake some fucking recipes, you
know like it takes time and soI'm so slow on my posting
schedule.
And so when that happened I waslike, oh my God, like finally
some growth.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Yeah, yeah.
Now, I totally get that when itcomes to growth on social media
and I'm horrible at it.
Like on my own personal one,I'm like you know, here's my kid
, here's my husband, here are mydogs on the Witch Mystic
Feminist social media platforms.
I'm so busy with work right nowthat I'm like I'm lucky if I
(27:18):
even get the post for the newepisode that comes out.
So you know, our growth hasbeen stagnant for a long time,
but you have like that's mydoing.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
You've had, like you
know, the experience of winning
awards.
I know you guys were all likewell, we don't like to.
You know, talk about it youknow from that point.
But seriously though, like thisand accomplish my.
I was listening to that podcastepisode so.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
And so that's why I
did that one mini episode of you
know, because part of me waslike, well, spiritually, you
know, like this is a big egothing and I was like, but you
know, I'm also a human.
And you know, I'm myself on theback like kind of thing, you
know, me and my girls did thedamn thing, and so actually I
woke up this morning to find outwe won another award, so our
(28:00):
first award in 2024.
So really excited about that, you know, because, if nothing
else, you know we're doingsomething right, you know, and
we're resonating with people,we're bringing on excellent
guests like yourself and youknow.
So, really, just, you know, having fun with it.
So yeah, Congratulations.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
What award is it?
Speaker 3 (28:21):
So it's the American
Writing Awards, their podcast of
the year for the religion andspiritual category.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
That's so cool.
Yeah, pretty exciting stuff,yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
So you know it's
exciting and yeah, while I feel
like there's partially ego, youknow, included in that, I don't
know if, as a human, you cancompletely kill off your ego,
you know, and so I don't thinkyou should.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
You know right,
because, honestly, that's where
you get to a point, too, whereyou get taken advantage of.
Like that's been a wholelearning experience for me.
You know, like I'm doing likethis mixology stuff and then
going back to the time that Idid when I moved to Arizona,
bartending jobs and just likeyou know people paying you
minimum wage, you know it's notlike there's nothing wrong with
(29:07):
you know, whatever lifestyle youlive in, making minimum wage
and just getting by.
But it's just like I'm notbeing paid my value and in order
to do that, you have to knowyour value, which does take that
balance of that ego.
It's part of the experience onearth, obviously always in
balance, but I think it's veryhealthy to like lean into that,
to know to honor the experiencesyou've had and know your value.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
So yeah, Just got to
keep it in check and that's
something that I know.
Yeah, I know that somethingI've been working on is knowing
my worth and standing firm withthat.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
It's so hard to do
it's difficult.
Yeah, especially when you justwant to help and connect with
people I don't know for me.
And then I'm like, oh, that'sright, like some people are,
like I hate knowing that,because I don't believe people
are authentically like that.
But also like some people arejust kind of out there for
themselves, and then you're likewanting to like help, and then
(30:03):
you're like, oh, this is notfeeling so great.
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Yeah, so we're coming
up on time.
I hate having to wrap things up, especially with you, but I
would.
So one of the things I wouldlove to do is, once we have the
book and have gone through it,bring you back.
I know we've done that with oneof our other guests, jamie
Della, with her book so, and Ihad a great time doing that,
because I was able to read thebook and then we discussed it
(30:29):
with her, and so I'd love to dothat with you as well.
And then when you come back,we'll do a book giveaway.
So we'll plan that within thenext same month or so and we'll
read your book, do a bookgiveaway and be able to discuss
your book in depth.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Yeah, I'm so sorry
for not like carrying the.
I don't know, I just feelawkward talking about my work
sometimes I'm like please don'tfeel awkward about that.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
I love your work and
I always have like I think that
you do just an amazing job and Ithink you're an amazing author
and so I'm really excited and Iget really into when listening
to you talk about your work.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
And you know that's
something that should be
celebrated so please don't feelweird about that with us and I'm
sure, coming back to it, youknow like there's going to be
like the lunar eclipse and solareclipse and stuff, so we'll
have a lot more to talk about.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Exactly and because I
you know, at that point we can
go through and be like okay, youknow, you just got this in your
book, you know, and be, able togo into that a little bit more,
so I'm really excited aboutthat yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
I'll just follow up
with my publisher to make sure.
People only just got like onthe East Coast, I should say
their books like on Friday soand I don't think anyone on the
West Coast has gotten it yet.
So I'll just double check withthem to make sure.
But just let me know, like someof the message, when you get it
.
It's that way, I know it wentthrough, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
So before we go, I
know that you have a new Patreon
group, so please start pluggingyourself.
I'd love for everybody to youknow.
Jump in on that, but pleasetell us a little bit about that.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
Yeah, I'm like super
excited again because of this
book release.
I'm feeling prepared, and evenjust connecting with local
authors where I am in differentcategories is really cool, and
so just leaning in and beinginto that space.
So I'm creating a Patreon.
I mean, most of the work I do,you know, is just self-funded.
Obviously, I write my books andget paid to write books, you
(32:29):
know, but otherwise, on my blog, creating drinks, like that, all
comes from me, out of my pocket, and I wanted to create a way
that's more sustainable.
Especially social media is justlike so much to manage and I'm
like what's the way that I canreally connect with people
because I love connecting witheveryone, but in a sustainable
way that also continues tosupport the creation of these
(32:50):
recipes or spells or sharinginformation, like on YouTube,
which I'm so excited aboutbecause I love talking about
magical shit.
And so, yeah, I created aPatreon.
It's just starting, just brandnew, and I'm kind of like
letting people kind of tell mewhat areas of my work they want
me to lean into more and sharewith them behind the scenes.
So super excited about that.
(33:12):
And then also just creatingthis YouTube where I can just
talk about things like New MoonMagic or Eclipses and also
magical mixology.
So yeah, Beautiful, beautiful.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
So for everyone out
there, please, if you don't
already follow her, go followJulia on her Instagram, tiktoks

She is amazing.
