Host, Todd Corley sits down with Alana Jochum, Executive Director, Equality Ohio. In her role, she leads all aspects of management for the statewide education and advocacy organization on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community.
In this episode, we give context to why it is so important for all of us to acknowledge a persons pronoun. Using pronouns correctly, not only validates a persons identity, but it promotes dignity and respect for individuality. Parents of children, teachers, business owners, co-workers and people from all walks of life are beginning to understand the full weight of importance in doing something as simple as using a pronoun to create a sense of belonging.
Although there may be awkwardness across the generational spectrum, there are tips and tools on embracing this type of personal expression that are not as daunting as it may seem.
