Rich, beautiful hair doesn't happen by chance – it happens by choice, especially when it comes to selecting the right hair oil. But with countless options flooding the market, how do you separate the truly nourishing oils from those that might be silently damaging your strands?

In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on the world of hair oils, sharing insider knowledge about which ingredients truly deliver results. You'll discover why certain oils like moringa, neem, and argan should be on your radar – and the science behind their effectiveness. More importantly, I reveal five popular oils (including some "trendy" options) that might actually be harming your hair rather than helping it. Did you know that castor oil can cause severe matting, or that mineral oil potentially leads to hair loss? These revelations might completely change your hair care routine.

For those with fine hair who've avoided oils entirely, I offer game-changing insights about lightweight formulations that won't weigh you down. I share my favorites from Eufora that have transformed both my hair and my clients' – oils that penetrate the hair shaft rather than merely coating it, providing deep nourishment rather than temporary shine.

Today, we're going to breakdown the truth about hair oils.
I'll share the best oils foryour hair, including some of my
personal favorites.
Plus, stick around to the endbecause I'm going to tell you
the five oils you should avoid.
That could be doing more harmto your hair than good.

(00:22):
That could be doing more harmto your hair than good.
Welcome to All About Hair and somuch more.
I'm your host, denise Kylitz, and I'm so excited to have you
here.
If you love hair, beauty andall the ways to feel amazing
inside and out, you're in theright place.
But here's the twist we're notjust talking hair anymore.

(00:45):
We'll dive into everything.
Life After 50 brings Health, hormones, relationships, fitness
and so much more.
This is a space for women whoare embracing change, building
confidence and living withcreativity and grace.

(01:05):
So let's get started.
You know what?
Lately I've been asking myguests if they use any products
on their hair, and you know whatI keep hearing is yeah, I use
oil.
Okay.
And then I asked them so whyare you using oil on your hair?
And most of the time, theydon't have an answer for that.

(01:30):
They are telling me that theydon't like the feel of product
on their hair.
They, um, you know, don't wantit stiff, but they don't know
why they're using oil on theirhair specifically.
My take on it is I think mostpeople use oil on their hair
because they're fighting thefrizz.
So today we're going to breakdown.

(01:52):
Why should you use oil on yourhair?
Why is it important?
Who shouldn't use oil on theirhair?
Do you even need to?
Oils are very good for your hair.
They're very nourishing, theyfight frizz.
They can make your hair shiny.
They can enhance your naturaltexture.
So there are actually reallygreat reasons to use an oil for

(02:16):
your hair.
However, you've got to pick theright oil.
So let's talk about some of thebest oils for your hair, what
to look for in the ingredientsso you can make the best
decision for you.
There's obsidian oil, and thatis for shine, strength and
hydration for your hair.
Next up is moringo oil.

(02:37):
I think I'm saying that right.
It actually contains omega-9and antioxidants in it.
It's great for oxidating stressand it controls frizz.
Then there's neem oil.
That is great for inflammationon your scalp.
It's wonderful for your scalp, helps with itching on the scalp.

(02:59):
So, if you can find an oil withneem oil in it, fabulous for
that.
Argan oil wonderful forprotecting your hair against UV
damage and the sunlight.
Yes, your hair does get exposedto that.
It could fade your hair color.
Cranberry oil improves theelasticity of your hair.
Kukui nut oil aids ininflammation and it adds

(03:21):
moisture to the hair.
Safflower oil protects fromenvironmental damages.
Olive oil now, don't use thison fine hair, but olive oil
helps protect against heatdamage.
Brazil nut oil is excellent UVprotection for your hair.
Shea butter sometimes we don'tthink of this as an oil, but

(03:43):
it's wonderful for shine andsoftness.
Avocado oil wonderful foromega-3s, vitamins A, d and E
and incredible shine.
Grape seed oil this is awonderful oil that helps to
unblock clogged pores, whichcould lead to the increase of

(04:03):
DHT, which could lead to hairloss.
So, with so many options outthere, I'm going to just give
you a couple of oils that Iparticularly love, and yes, it's
from my favorite brand, euphora.
I will leave a link in the shownotes that, if you wanted to
shop Euphora or to get moreinformation on some of their

(04:25):
oils, you can do so just byfollowing my link.
Yes, if you decide to buy oneof the oils.
I do get a little bit from that.
It really helps my channel, soI would appreciate that if you
did that.
But I want to tell you a littlebit about their oils.
Then I'll definitely give you afew more brands to to look at
as well.
But really, what this video isabout is why you should be using

(04:48):
oils.
Don't just stick any oil on yourhair and think it's going to do
something for you.
Remember the days when we usedto have the vo5 oils in the
little tiny container and we putit in the hot water and get it
warm.
Then we put it on our hair.
I know I'm dating myself.
However, this was really theonly oil that was available to

(05:10):
us and I remember it was almostlike a weekly ritual.
It would be deep conditioning,at least we thought so.
I have no idea if that VO5 oilworked or not, but that's the
introduction to oils.
So let's talk about three of myfavorite oils.
My very first and foremost oh mygoodness is the Euphora

(05:33):
Beautifying Serum.
This oil is so amazing.
You can use it on your hair.
You can use it on your skin.
You can use it on your face.
You can use it around your eyes.
It is so, so wonderful.
It's packed with neem oil, argan oil, cranberry oil and
kukui oil.

(05:53):
It smells fabulous.
It actually does penetrate thecuticle of the hair and actually
gets into the cortex and helpsprovide nourishment to the hair.
So it doesn't just lay on thesurface.
Some oils do just lay on thesurface and protect the hair.
That way, this one actuallygoes into the hair shaft itself.

(06:16):
It's non-greasy, lightweight,absorbs really fast.
If you put it on your skin, thebest way to do it is test it on
the back of your hand.
Oh my goodness, it feelsamazing.
You can mix it in with yourbody lotion.
Just an amazing, amazingproduct.
If you've never used it ortried it, I would highly highly

(06:38):
recommend clicking on that linkin my show notes and go check it
out.
You can order a small littlesize.
You'll love it.
You'll thank me later.
My next one is their smoothingoil therapy.
Now, this oil is a little bitthicker.
It's definitely not for finehair.
It is actually in their smoothline.
So if your hair is prone tofrizz or if you've got thick,

(07:01):
frizzy hair, this is the oilyou'd want to choose.
It's got a lot of moisture, shine, so you get a silky smooth
.
Especially if you've got thick, curly hair and you're blow
drying it out straight or flatironing it out straight, you
want to put an oil on there tohelp with that.
It seals in the moisture, addsshine.
It's got moringa, absinthe, safflower and olive oil in it

(07:27):
and it is wonderful for coarse, unruly hair.
The next oil in their lineup, which again an amazing oil and
and you're hearing from somebodywith really fine hair myself
that I used to be afraid to putoils in my hair because I
thought that it would just weighit down.

(07:47):
Well, it's not true if you'reusing the correct oil.
So Euphora's Pure Polish oh,this is the perfect finishing
gloss for your hairstyle.
However, you can also blow-drywith it because, lo and behold,
I don't really know the sciencebehind it, but what it does is

(08:10):
it helps push water out of yourhair and it actually, if you add
it to your styling product, itactually helps to blow dry your
hair faster, up to 50% faster.
Yes, yes, it's great for frizzand flyaways.
So if you just blow dry yourhair and you got a little frizz

(08:32):
to it, or throughout the day, later in the day, put a little
drop a little goes a long ways.
Put it in there and put it overyour blown out hair.
It's great for curly hair too.
Squeeze it into the curls.
This has got safflower, kakuioil and vitamin E.
Now, like I I said, these oilsdon't just sit on the surface

(08:53):
either.
They actually nourish andprotect the hair strands by
going into the cortex of thehair.
Now let's talk about the do'sand the don'ts of how to use a
hair oil.
You do want to choose the rightoil for your hair and your
scalp.
Again, look at the ingredientson the back of the hair oil, and

(09:15):
you actually do want to applyit to both your hair and your
scalp.
And then you want to leave iton for at least two to three
hours, and also do it atnighttime, so you can leave it
on overnight.
But the oils that I mentionedbefore, they actually absorb
into your hair, so you can leavethem on indefinitely.
I mean, you just put them onwith your styling products, you

(09:35):
don't have to worry about that.
But there are some oils outthere that are specifically just
created as a treatment, and sothose are the ones I'm talking
about.
Leave on for two to three hoursor overnight.
Okay, so some oils to avoid.
You don't want to put camphoroil on your hair.
There's actually no realevidence out there that states

(09:56):
that it's good for your hair andit's definitely not good for
your scalp.
You don't want to use castoroil.
This can actually cause hairfelting.
Have you heard of that before?
It's severe matting of the hair.
So there has been a big push onusing castor oil on your skin.
First of all, it's super, super, super heavy, so it'd be almost

(10:17):
too heavy for your hair.
I do not think it penetratesthe hair and it could cause
severe matting of the hair.
Lemon oil lemon oil actuallyshrinks the hair shaft and it
makes it appear thinner andbrittle.
And I don't know about you, butI don't think anybody out there
wants their hair to appearthinner and brittle.
And I don't know about you, butI don't think anybody out there
wants their hair to appearthinner or brittle.
Mineral oil Now, mineral oil.

(10:37):
You might see this in a lot ofthings.
Beware of mineral oil, becauseit actually clogs your hair
follicle and what happens then?
It could lead to scalpirritation or, even worse, hair
loss.
Olive oil we did mention oliveoil in our oils at the beginning
.
Olive oil is a wonderful oil,but not for fine hair.

(10:59):
It's a little too heavy forfine hair and it could weigh
your hair down and it couldactually clog your pores if your
hair is that fine.
So not all oils are createdequal, so make sure you're
always checking your ingredientsand talk to your stylist about
what oil they recommend.

(11:19):
So there you have it the bestand the worst oils for your hair
.
Now I want to hear from you, letme know, if you use an oil on
your hair and if it works or ifit didn't work.
As a community, we would alllove to know what's out there,
what's working for people orwhat's not working.
So just leave a comment below.
