Hey! I’m your host Neva Hidajat and I’m thrilled to begin creating season 2 of Alphabet Soup. If you follow me on Instagram, @alphabetsoup.podcast, you’ll know that the theme of this season will be Cancer. According to 2020 Global Cancer Statistics, the disease affects an estimated 19.3 million people worldwide. Of course, these numbers are devastating not only to the victims themselves but also to their loved ones. But amid the discouraging rates, there are also millions of people around the globe working for the cancer cause through research, care, advancing medical treatments, raising funds, and spreading awareness.
My goal for season 2 of the podcast is to join the cancer cause by using this platform to invite guests who have valuable information on cancer and stories about the disease, and to share these precious conversations with as many people as I can. If you remember from the trailer for season 1, in which my goal was for alphabet soup to be a gateway to discovery, that vision has not changed. By having a theme this season, I believe we can truly gain a deeper understanding of a subject.
You can look forward to these engaging episodes which are to come in the near future. But first, I hope you’ll join me as I kick off season 2 with an episode about growth, featuring a very special guest: the host of the podcast Let’s Talk About Mental Health. Because it’s always nice to start something new with a reminder that as long as you believe you can do it, you will!

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
