In 1995, Queensbridge's finest — Nas and Mobb Deep — collabed with Raekwon to drop Eye for an Eye. The song is an exploration of a violent world, an oppressive place where people are forced to do what they can to survive: “I might crack a smile but ain't a damn thing funny, I'm caught up in the dirt where your hands get muddy.” Sadly, more than 25 years later, the lyrics still hold true. But now, in places like Buffalo, the threat isn’t coming from the next block over. The threat is coming from the outside. The threat is driving hundreds of miles to target a community because of their race. The threat is real. The threat is growing. The threat is imminent. Your hosts Don Elivert and Jehriko Turner dig in deep. They explore the pain and reflect on how the only response most people can muster at this point is just to laugh at the irony. Gallows humor. But don’t get it twisted. None of it is funny. Jokes mask the truth and sometimes — most times — that truth is fucking awful. But the answer isn’t to look away. The answer is to confront it. To name it. To call it out and to hold people accountable. It’s the most important thing we can do as individuals and it’s the most important thing our allies can do, especially when we’re not around. Especially when no one is looking. Change begins at home. And we need some damn change. Mass shootings are pure evil, but every single one of those people had people in their lives that never stepped up, never stepped in. Are you doing your part to help? Are you doing your part to stop the hatred? To stop it from spreading? We can all do better. We all have to do better.  And later in the pod, in true B Dorm fashion, they take the conversation where you don’t expect. Space. Who comes with and who gets left back? It’s a fun one and you will never guess who Don is taking with him and why. And who he isn’t. That’s what B Dorm is all about. A smart, fun, educated conversation that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is the B Dorm podcast.
