Ever found yourself in a cold sweat at the sight of a spider lurking in the corner? You're not alone. Join me as we unravel the tapestry of our deepest fears, from the eight-legged creatures that make our skin crawl to the daunting prospect of aging and the loss of self-reliance. With candid confessions and a splash of humor, we navigate through the peculiar and profound anxieties that bind us, sharing personal episodes that might just make you chuckle or nod in agreement. I'll even let you in on my newfound unease when peering down from great heights, illustrating how fears can evolve and surprise us over time.

But there's light in the darkness of our trepidations. This heart-to-heart isn't just about airing our fears; it’s about the strength we muster when we confront them. We'll discuss the sanctuary of self-care and the liberation found in leaning on faith or a friend's empathetic ear. I open up about the jarring moments of panic and the 'giants' of anxiety, while offering a gentle reminder that imperfection is part of the human condition. There's no quest for flawlessness here, just the raw courage to face what scares us, and the collective comfort in knowing we're not alone on this journey.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Well, hello everyone and how are you doing?
Well, welcome to anotherepisode of Be Real with Lab
Podcast on your host, lab, and Iwanted to just give you a quick
thank you for joining me heretoday on Be Real with Lab
Podcast.
Man, the weekend went by fast,eh, and it has been so cold, so

(00:23):
very cold, don't you think?
Sometimes, when it's too cold,it makes you feel extra tired.
That's what I feel, you know, especially traveling to work in
the mornings and it's so cold.
But you know where we live, right.
So that's life, so let's jumpright into it, guys.

(00:44):
Our episode today is what areyour fears?
What are your fears in life?
And I'm sure everyone, you know, for the most part, most human
beings, they have their ownfears.
You know what are your biggestfears, you know, and like what

(01:08):
seems scary to you that wouldput you into like a high anxiety
, you know, or what fears youwish you could conquer.
Well, for example, my daughteris terrified of spiders and
centipede.
You know, those things thathave like a hundred legs on them
.
You know, and for me, my fearin terms of what it comes to

(01:35):
animals are pit bulls.
You know, the little puppiesnot that much, but overall, pit
bulls and centipedes and mice orrats, you know those things is
like hell flipping now.

(01:55):
So you know this, this episodeI just wanted to, you know, just
have a little fun talking about.
You know what your, your fearsare.
Some of it can be a littlefunny, you know, you have some
people, they have weird fears, you know, and, like I said, mice
or rats, those big sewage rats.

(02:17):
I remember when I was workingout to the airport and they had,
they were doing someconstruction and we had you
would see rats, some bigblack-looking rats running
across, you know, and it was soit was just disgusting, right,

(02:39):
because I guess they pulled upwherever these sewage rats live.
You know, when they doconstruction sometimes they open
up those switchholes, right, and I'm telling you rats like
anything.
So you know it's, it'ssomething that sometimes some
people they have some seriousphobias about these things and

(03:01):
how to get over it.
I don't have too much of anidea of really how to get over
it.
Some people say, put them inthe same room with that person.
Hell, no, you know.
But you know, in like, what areways?
What like?
In what ways does fear motivateyou?

(03:21):
Then you know what I mean, sometimes you know you have no
choice but to face your fears.
Right, but to face it, and thattoo kind of helps, I was told.
You know, for you to see thatyou know what.

(03:41):
You're not going to lose yourlife over it.
It's just it's in the mind, youknow, and sometimes in our
anxiety, runs wild with us.
We think that something bad isreally really gonna happen.
Fear is a giant.
A fear is a giant and yes, there are ways.
I'm not a psychiatrist or apsychologist, but I remember I

(04:04):
was so fearful of, like all dogs, no matter how small the dog is
, and my son had bought a dog.
He was a baby, he was aDoverman pincher and he bought
him when he was just a littlebaby and as the dog was growing
like, he would come over to myhouse a lot with this puppy.

(04:25):
At the time he's a puppy andyou know what, after a while, as
the months go by and these dog, they grow fast.
Anytime he sees me, he wouldrun towards me and put his paw
up and I would think that he'sbeing, like you know, wants to
attack me or something.
And my son goes no, mom, calmdown, calm down.

(04:46):
No, it's because he's happy tosee you, you know.
And then he would start to like, have his tongue out and that
just gives me the creeps.
And I said, why does he do that?
He says because he's trying tobe lovable.
So, okay, but I'm not, you know, because I was always afraid of
dogs and that dog grew within ayear.
That dog, he was so territorialand I remember one time he

(05:07):
pulled up in the car, he came todrop something off to me and he
was in the car and that dogwould bark, he was going nuts in
the backseat of the car becausehe wanted to come out and greet
me.
So I kind of learn and he kindof kind of took away my fear a
little bit, you know, it kind oftook away my fear so, but I'm
still, because they don't havethat dog anymore.

(05:29):
So, but I'm, I still have thatkind of fear, right, but um,
yeah, to face your fear is a isa good thing, it is a healthy
thing.
Yep, so you know, some peoplethey're afraid to get old,
because when they get too oldthey have a hard time looking

(05:52):
after themselves.
They can't walk as fast, youknow, they can't basically do
anything the way they used to.
So, yeah, a lot of people feargetting old.
You know, sometimes I would seeelderly and they maybe they're
in their mall, in the mallsitting or in the park, and
they'll just stare at yousometimes.
I used to wonder sometimes, whyare they staring like that, you

(06:15):
know?
But I really do think it'sbecause they're remembering when
they were young.
You know, when they were youngonce upon a time and they could
move about.
So that's another fear.
You know, you can't helpyourself.
You know what I mean.
You got to depend on someone totake care of you, right?

(06:38):
So I mean, this episode wasjust to talk about.
These are just real life things.
This is an everyday thing.
But people go through silently, you know, and it could sound
simple some of it, but in alldue honesty to that individual
that is experiencing it, it'snot.
It's not simple to them, right?

(07:00):
Getting old, we all are gonnaget old.
At least we would like to thinkthat.
You know, some don't make itgetting old.
Some people die very young.
A lot of people, as human beings, they fear dying.
Do you guys fear dying, youknow?

(07:23):
Do you fear dying?
Are you afraid of dying?
You know what I mean.
Like people don't like to talkabout that because you know it's
a scary thing.
They say the worst part ofdeath is who you leave behind,
right, but I think it's a normalhuman behavior or action or

(07:44):
feeling to have, you know, especially when you got your
children and stuff like that, that's a big fear.
You know what I mean, especially when you're smiling
not big way.
They can handle themselvesright.
So it is something, and that'swhy I always say fear is a giant

(08:05):
.
It really is a giant.
So, guys, I just wanted to talkabout fear, your phobias and
your fears.
And, you know, just have thatfriendly conversation of
fulfilling what you're so afraidof.

(08:26):
You know, some people are evenafraid of talking in front of a
crowd, talking in front of acrowd, having a job interview
coming up, this job that you'reso interested in and you so want
, and it's like you're gonnahave the interview and you start
getting sweaty because nowyou're feeling like, oh my god,

(08:48):
like the questions you're gonnaask, am I gonna answer the
questions properly, you know?
Am I gonna give the rightanswers to their questions, you
know?
And then I'm gonna have a test.
What is the test gonna be about?
Am I gonna pass the test, youknow.
So those are just, those arenormal reaction.

(09:10):
You know Us as human being, right, and it is one of the most
nerve-wracking thing whenyou're gonna have this job
interview and you're wonderingabout all the questions and all
that.
You know it is so, so it'snerve-wracking, it really is not

(09:32):
nerve-wracking, so yeah, butthese are just more general
expressions, you know.
They can be followed by likecertain specific object or
situation too, you know.
And so it's always good to kindof take a step back and really

(09:53):
think about how to help yourselfconquer these kind of phobias.
And I think everybody, mostpeople, suffer from anxiety when
they're gonna have a jobinterview, you know, just asking
certain questions, you know howto answer it, but at that

(10:15):
moment it's like you'reparalyzed.
You're paralyzed because you'reso nervous and afraid that you
won't pass the interview.
You know what I mean.
So, yeah, it is something else.
Well, they say there are ways tofight your fear or to conquer

(10:37):
your fear.
Right, and for me it's justtake time out, right, just take
time out, because when you'rethinking about it too much, you
can't focus on anything.
It disrupts your whole focus, right, and your anxiety kicks in
.
Just breathe Anytime you feellike anxiety is coming on or

(11:01):
some sort of panic attack, it'salways good to just breathe,
just breathe slowly, you know, and face it.
You know what I mean.
Like, I for one know aboutanxiety and I have found ways in
order to control that anxiety.
And sometimes, you know, mysister once upon a time told me

(11:24):
long, long time ago, sometimesnot caring feels good.
And I would look, I go, whatwhat do you mean?
Sometimes not caring feels good.
She's my older sister.
She goes one day you willunderstand when you're going
through certain things in life, sometimes not caring feels good,
and I've experienced that.
And man does it feel good, youknow.

(11:48):
And it doesn't mean that you'renot caring about your life,
you're not caring about the onesthat are close to you and stuff
like that.
What it means is sometimesthings happen in life and when
you keep trying and you try andyou try and you see that things
are, just you know it's movingat a very slow pace or it's not

(12:10):
working out the way you want.
Sometimes just put your twohands at your side, take a deep
breath and walk away from it andjust just focus on you and your
well-being.
Right, and that feels good, because you know in your heart
that you've tried.
You know you face the fear, you've dealt with it, but for

(12:33):
some reason things are just notrolling the way how you believe
it should be rolling andsometimes you just stop, just
stop and walk away from that.
You know, don't try to beperfect Right and always think
about.
For me.
Sometimes I think about like, okay, it's time to just take a

(12:54):
break and take a vacation and goaway.
Right, you think about a happyplace right.
Right now I'm planning on goingaway, at least I'm trying to go
away Right For my, my, my,earth strong day.
Right, because I need to.
You know, that's something Itry to give myself because I

(13:15):
need to.
Right, and I think I'm deservedI do believe I shouldn't say I
think I do believe I'm deservingof it.
Right, and it's always good totalk, to talk.
You're not going to walk andtell everybody, but someone that
you're comfortable talking to,about your fears or your phobias
, how you feel about certainthings, right, especially with

(13:37):
anxiety.
You know, anxiety is a thing.
Where it's it's, it can get youreally good.
You know what I mean, and soit's so important to have ways,
you know solutions, in order tocontrol it and not let it rule
your life and control you, youknow.

(13:59):
So, yeah, it's, it's important,it is very important, and I
just think that in this day andage that we live in especially,
you know, there's so much thingsgoing on.
You know, the whole world,we've gone through so much the
last three, four years and youknow, sometimes we're, you know,

(14:22):
I think a lot of us still havethat, that kind of mindset in.
You know, I hope we never gothrough what we went through
from 2000,.
From 2020 or 2019, 2020, rightup until, like it was, for two,
three years.
You know.
So we're always mindful.
I think a lot of us had realizedthat some of what we were

(14:45):
fussing ourselves over wasn'teven worth it, comparing to what
a lot of people have lost, youknow, and still cannot even
recover fully from it.
A lot of us, you know.
So that fear, that fear is justit's crazy, it's really crazy.

(15:07):
Some people are afraid ofheights.
Right, I, growing up, I wasnever afraid of heights.
I used to love being way, wayup and looking all the way down,
especially if I'm in a tall, tall condo building and I go out
on the balcony and I would lookover.
Now I can't even do that much.
I can't even do that much.
I feel like I just it's a weirdfeeling.

(15:28):
I feel like I'm gonna, if Ilook too hard, I'm gonna fall
over, you know.
And looking all the way downthere, your picture, and what if
I fall all the way down, right?
So, guys, it's so much.
Eh, in this life, in this dayand age, there's so much things
going on.
Some of it may seem strange toyou because you're not going
through it.
You know, I mean me talking toyou about this.

(15:50):
Some of you listening might say, oh boy, like who cares about
that?
But you know what?
There's a lot of people who areseriously going through stuff
like that.
They're fears, they're phobias, whatever you want to call it,
you know.
And they suffer from anxietyand, as I told you, I know what
anxiety is all about.
You don't need to tell me thatone.
You know.
And, yes, I had a fear of dogsand the centipedes and all that,

(16:13):
and the rat or the mice orwhatever.
It's just gross, it grosses meout.
But you know, life is what it isand we got to face our own
challenges, our own fears, ourown phobias and, as I said, take
a step back, take a deep breath, talk about it, you know, have

(16:34):
your resources, tools to face itand stuff like that, because
today's society it is can bevery scary, especially when you
have kids, it can be reallyscary, you know.
But one thing you have to have, you should have, and if you
don't start practicing, is faithin God.
You know, because fear is agiant, but when you trust and

(16:57):
believe in God, it doessomething different to your
whole mindset and your wholebehavior of how you look at
things too, right.
And, as I said, I told you Igot tools, I got ways of dealing
with my anxiety right and howto control it.
So, being mindful of that also, because it is so important,

(17:18):
remember you know you areimportant and no one is perfect.
He that is without sin, let himcast the first stone.
There's no one without sin, guys, and you know what.
No one is perfect and we allhave our own little hang ups,
our phobias, our own littleanxiety, panic attacks, you name

(17:39):
it, you know.
But it's how to conquer it.
And, as I said, you talk aboutit to someone who you're
comfortable with.
Take a deep breath, breathingexercises, think positive, think
about a happy place you wouldlove to be, you know, think
about you, your whole being, andwhere you want to get in life,

(18:00):
you know, to help you conquerthat fear, because we all have a
fear, we all do, we all do.
We all have a fear in a sense, you know.
So, yeah, so I just wanted tojust, you know, talk about this
episode, this topic, with youall out there, and just to let

(18:20):
you know that be real with love.
We're always real in what wecome and bring to the table.
So thank you so much, that'sall, for this episode.
Thank you for joining me heretoday, guys, and have yourself a
