Have you ever heard someone say, “God will never give you more than you can handle” or “Good people go to heaven”? These common sayings sound Christian—but they aren’t biblical.

In this episode of Behind the Mike Podcast with Mike Stone, we uncover 5 myths Christians often believe (plus a bonus myth!) and replace them with God’s truth straight from Scripture.

Whether you’ve wrestled with doubts, struggled with suffering, or wondered what the Bible really says about faith and healing, this conversation will help you build your faith on a solid foundation of truth.

📖 Topics we cover:
😲 The truth behind “God will never give you more than you can handle”
😲 Why “Good people go to heaven” is misleading
😲 What the Bible really says about healing
😲 The danger of “name it and claim it” theology
😲 Why faith doesn’t mean the absence of doubt
😲 Bonus myth: Do all Christians have to speak in tongues?

💡 Takeaway: Don’t build your faith on half-truths. Test everything against God’s Word, because the truth sets us free.

(00:00):
Have you ever heard someonein church say, God will
never give you morethan you can handle?
Or maybe good peoplego to heaven.
These are phraseswe've all heard, maybe even
repeated ourselves.
They may sound nice, they sound Christian.
But here's the problem.
They're not true.

(00:20):
And when we build our faithon half truths, we end up
with a very shaky foundation.
Well, today on Behindthe Mike Podcast,
we're going to tackle five ofthe most common myths
that Christians believe.
Plus, a bonus one at the endand we'll discover together
what God's Word really says.

(00:42):
You might be surprisedwhich ones you've believed
and how freeing it isto replace them with truth.
Myth number one God will nevergive you more
than you can handle.

(01:02):
Sounds nice, encouraging, but it's not in the Bible.
People usually quote first

Corinthians 10 (01:08):
13, but that verse
is about temptation,not suffering.
In reality, God oftenallows things in our lives
that feel overwhelming.
Paul himself wrote in 2

Corinthians 1 (01:19):
8-9 that he was burdened
beyond strength,so that we would rely
not on ourselves, but on God.
Let me illustrate.
Think of Jobe or Gideonfacing the Midianites
with only 300 men.
Way more than they could handle.
Unless God showed up the truth.

(01:41):
God may allow morethan you can handle on your own,
but never morethan he can handle through you.
Myth number two good peoplego to heaven.
This is probably the most commoncultural belief.
The problem the Bible says

in Romans 3 (02:00):
10, there is no one righteous, not even one.
If heaven was about good people, how good would you have to be?
What's the cutoff?
51% good.
Truth is, heaven isn't aboutbeing good.

(02:21):
It's about being forgiven.
Picture a courtroom.
You've broken the law.
Being nice in other areasdoesn't erase the crime.
Someone has to pay.
Well, Jesuspaid it on the cross.
And the truth is,good people don't go to heaven.
Forgiven people do.

(02:41):
None of us are worthy.
It's only through Jesus Christ.
Myth number three God wantseveryone healthy.
This one hurts becauseit gets used against people
who are already hurting.
Yes, God can heal.
Yes he does heal.

(03:01):
But no, the Bible neversays he will heal
everyone on this side of heaven.
An example is Paul had a thornin the flesh.
Don't know what it is,but he prayed three times for it
to be removed.
And God said, my graceis sufficient for you.
Look that up in

2 Corinthians 12 (03:17):
9.
Timothy had stomach problems.
Elisha died of an illness.
The truth is, God does heal, but sometimes his plan is to use
our weakness to displayhis strength.
Now also remember,ultimate healing comes

(03:38):
not in this life, butin the resurrection.
Myth number four name it.
Claim it.
The idea that if youspeak something
with enough faith,God is obligated to give it.
This makes Goda vending machine,
not a sovereignking of the universe.

James 4 (03:58):
3 says, you ask and you do not receive
because you ask with the wrongmotives.
Look, Jesus in Gethsemane,he prayed, not my will, Lord,
but yours be done.

Luke 22 (04:14):
42.
Real prayer aligns our heartswith God's will.
It doesn't twist his arm.
We don't create realitywith our words.
God does.
Our role is to surrender, not control.
Myth number five faith meansno doubts.

(04:38):
Many believersfeel crushed by guilt
because they wrestlewith doubts.
Think of Thomas, the disciple.
He doubted.
But Jesus didn't reject him.
He invited himto see and believe.
John the Baptist, who baptizedJesus, later asked,
are you the one?
Or should we expect another?

That's in Luke 7 (04:58):
19.
Look, God is not intimidatedby our questions.
Faith isn'tthe absence of doubt.
It's trusting Godin the presence of doubt.
Strong faith isnot perfect faith.
Strong faith keeps clingingto Jesus even when it doesn't

(05:18):
have all the answers.
And our bonus myth.
Everyone shouldspeak in tongues.
Some teach that this is the signthat you're truly saved
or spirit filled.
But Paul wrote clearlyin 1 Corinthians

12 (05:35):
29-30 do all speak in tongues?
Do all interpretthe obvious answers?
No.
Tongues are a spiritual gift, not a universal requirement.
The real evidence of the spiritis the fruit of the spirit.

In Galatians 5 (05:53):
22-23, every believer is given gifts
as the spirit wills.
We shouldn't compare or forcea uniform experience.
All right, here's the takeaway.
Test everything you hearby the Word of God,
even if it comes from a pastor,a book, or a catchy

(06:16):
church saying.
Paul told the Bereans in Acts 17that they were noble
because they searchedthe scriptures
to see if what Paulpreached was true.
So let's be Bereans.
Let's filter everything.
Even the things that we'vealways assumed through
the Word of God.
That's our standard.

(06:37):
We can't let society or fads, orregardless of who it comes from,
establish the truth.
For us, it's got to comefrom the Word of God
because the truth sets us free.
But lies?
Even nice sounding oneswill keep us stuck.
And worse, could very easilyturn you off of the path

(06:58):
that God has for us.
