Ready to challenge your youth ministry assumptions? Season 5 of Beyond the Event returns with a fresh format designed to make you think deeply about practices you might have packed away in the attic of your brain.

This season introduces paired episodes presenting both sides of common youth ministry debates. Each debate features experienced youth ministers who've previously appeared on our podcast, ensuring authentic perspectives from people currently in the trenches. We're starting with one of ministry's fundamental questions: topical versus exegetical teaching, with the first episode dropping September 8th.

Whether you've never given these issues much thought, you're firmly committed to one approach, or you're thoughtfully weighing different perspectives, this season speaks directly to you. Our goal isn't to change your mind or declare debate winners—it's to create space for genuine reflection. When was the last time you reconsidered your teaching approach? Have your ministry methods become automatic rather than intentional?

Don't miss our season premiere on September 8th as we dive into the case for topical teaching, followed by the arguments for exegetical teaching on September 22nd. Subscribe now, and join us as we maintain momentum between the mountaintops of youth ministry.

And with the advent of ourfifth season, we are excited
about what's coming down thepike.
Here's what's going to happenon every episode of season.
Five Episodes are going to bein pairs that will reflect

(00:29):
either side of a common debate.
In youth ministry, for example, our first debate will be
between topical and exegeticalteaching.
The first episode will coverthe arguments for topical
teaching.
The second will be thearguments for exegetical
teaching.
You are going to hear frompeople who meet two requirements
A they're in youth ministry andB they're a voice.

(00:51):
You have already heard beforeon this podcast.
Here's the deal.
My goal is not to make anyonechange their mind or to declare
a winner after each debate.
My goal is simply this that youspend some time thinking deeply
about these issues.
If you're in youth ministry, you fall into one of three
categories.
One you've never thought deeplyabout these issues because

(01:13):
either you haven't needed to orbecause you've been flying by
the seat of your pants.
If that's you, this season isfor you.
We want to help you give theseissues the consideration they
deserve.
Two you are rock solid on oneside or the other.
If that's you, this season isfor you.
We want you to take issues thatyou may have packed into a box

(01:34):
and put in the attic of yourbrain and invite you to
challenge your own assumptions.
Will you change your mind?
Maybe, maybe not, but it'sprobably time to reconsider some
of the things that, if you'relike me, you haven't considered
in a long time.
Three, you do think deeplyabout these issues, but you're
not sure where you stand.
If that's you, this season isfor you.

(01:55):
We're happy to provide voiceson both sides to help you ask
the right questions and navigatethese complicated aspects of
youth ministry.
So, basically, if you're ayouth pastor, this season is for
you and we're pumped about it.
So up first, topical versusexegetical teaching.
September 8th is the day We'llsee you then.
