Florida Broward County, notBrevard, not Brevard Yuck.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
From Broward County,
florida, which is way down in
South Florida, yep.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Also, I like Brevard
County, for the record.
I just don't want someone ifthey're listening from there,
yeah to be like they have a goodzoo, great.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Do you have any like?
So you lived near the placewhere that guy like consumed a
bunch of bath salts and atesomebody's face.
What do you remember that?
I don't that was.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
That was one of the
like all-timer florida man, that
just sounds like a normaltuesday in florida, so it
probably just flew right over myradar.
It's like the craziest floridaman story that you remember from
your time uh, I mean on, Idon't really have a Florida man
story, did anybody?
Speaker 1 (03:48):
ever in your church
just do something insane, that
you were like oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
I remember growing up
there was a kid who got in a
lot of trouble with the lawbecause he broke into a
construction site and wanted tolike drive the machinery him and
his buddy that seemed.
I don't know where he is now, what he's doing jail maybe
sounds like a florida man kindof like set up there.
But there was a story this ismore of a florida story when I
(04:13):
lived in south florida I had afriend who was walking his dog
at 5 am and a coyote came outand took his dog.
Never saw him again, rip.
I guess it's not really aflorida story, okay, but have
you ever heard of this thing?
We're gonna do it right now.
Okay.
Have you ever Took his dog?
Never saw him again, rip.
I guess it's not really aFlorida story, okay, but have
you?
Speaker 1 (04:26):
ever heard of this
thing?
We're going to do it right now.
Okay, have you ever heard ofthis thing where you Google like
Florida man and then yourbirthday?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
And then say what?
Speaker 1 (04:33):
What's your birthday?
Speaker 4 (04:34):
May 27th, florida man
, if it's a story about me, no,
it's not.
It's not going to.
Oh, okay, interesting.
What is it the first one thatcomes up?
Can you say it on air?
Yes, I'm nervous.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
The first one that
comes up is from Action News Jax
.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Jax in my hometown
Amazing.
Speaker 1 (04:53):

Speaker 4 (04:54):

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Go Jags From May 27,
2020.
It says Florida, man kickedchicken like a field goal.
Deputies say.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
That's in the middle
of COVID too.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
This guy was just
bored, get just out of here
punting chickens I wonder howfar it went.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Oh man, we can do it
now.
That's amazing.
When's your birthday?
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Brad, september the
29th.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Florida man,
September 29.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
If it's the same guy
punting another chicken.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
No, this is from
September 29, 29th of 2020, so
also covid just bored, boredflorida people, it's fine
florida man in his underwearhits deputy in the face with
bible wow, I love it oh, theseare the best florida.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
What part of florida
is that?
One from if it's alsojacksonville that's going to be.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Ocala.
Okay, predictable we're prettyclose.
Yeah, that's.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
We're all north of
I-4 here which is, I could have
guessed both of those for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
So Michael, what's
your birthday?
April 21st?
He was ready.
I already have one pulled up.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Oh, what is it?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
From Rock, florida.
I don't know what that is.
This headline says you're introuble.
Oh gosh, florida man takes leakin stores.
Beer cave $113.36 worth of beerdamaged.
Police say Damaged.
Wow.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Interesting word I
feel like contaminated would
have been the word.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Unless he just had a
jet stream going and was
wreaking havoc in the beer cave.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
It makes it sound
like they put it on a different
shelf and sold it on likeclearance.
You should just get rid of it.
Anyway, welcome to Joplin, where we don't have anybody.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
No one in Joplin has
ever hit someone in the face
with a Bible in their underwear.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
That you know of,
maybe they have.
Yeah, that's true.
It's great to be here.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
I'm super glad that
you're here, so it's been a long
time since we've had someone inyour position like kind of
leading out on move content thathas as much youth ministry
experience as you have which isso cool.
So, like not that long ago, youwere a youth pastor.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Like seven months ago
.
Yeah, you were a youth pastor, you were still rocking and
rolling there.
So when you got here and it'slike, okay, we're programming,
move for 2024.
We're ready, we're making ithappen.
What were you like excited tobring to move that?
(07:31):
It's like, man, I, I wish thatI had had this for my kids at an
event.
And now I'm excited to likemake it happen.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Yeah, for sure.
I mean the crazy thing is makeit even more of a cool
transition is, my last thing instudent ministry was attending a
week of move last summer as ayouth pastor.
Right, it's crazy, which issuper fun.
So obviously, the whole timeI'm there I'm thinking about the
event a little bit differently, through a different lens, you
know, because I knew that wewere moving the next month.
Yeah, I mean I wouldn't saythere's nothing, there's nothing
(07:57):
drastic Like, there's nothingthat I'm like this has to be
completely changed.
I mean move sucks.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
We got to read it.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Right, yeah, none of
that, none of that Move is
amazing.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
I went as a student
you know was a part of move
several summers in studentministry, even as an intern.
So there wasn't anythingdrastic.
I mean maybe some small thingsjust trying to think of, okay,
where does this go Sorry forusing your podcast name to talk
about this, but beyond the eventlike how does this take a
student?
Beyond this week of move, andthat's kind of framed a lot of
(08:29):
programming for this summer.
Again, nothing drastic, butsome small things that we're
deciding to do to maybe focusmore on what does this look like
for an everyday life of astudent as they follow Jesus?
So, again, nothing drastic, butthings like that.
I led a group of.
They were juniors at the timeand now they're seniors.
So, thinking about how can wemake this summer great for a
(08:52):
group leader and how can we makeit great for a student who
maybe is going to move for thefirst time, hearing about Jesus
for the first time?
A lot of those questions arewhat I'm asking, which I'm
really excited about.
So there's just some thingsthat I don't want to give away
too much, but there's just somethings that you'll notice will
be a little bit different.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Can we do?
Okay, we're kind of likedancing around what move is
actually about this summer.
So, do you want to talk alittle bit just about that?
Like, where are we headed?
Yeah for sure, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
This summer is really
unique in the sense that we're
focusing on more of maybe atopic right In that the word
rest is a big part of the summer.
So the rest of your life has adual meaning.
The rest of your life meaningthe rest that you need for your
soul Matthew 11, 20 through 30is what we're mainly focusing on
to kick things off, but thenalso we kind of end the week on
(09:42):
the other side of that, which isthe rest of your life meaning.
From this point moving forward, how are you going to live for
Jesus?
So kind of that dual meaning.
But we're focusing on Psalm 23in the mornings.
We're going to focus on Jesusas the good shepherd in the
evenings and how he embodieswhat we talk about in the
morning.
But all throughout that we'retalking about how do you
actually find rest?
(10:02):
And we know, even for adults welive in a generation of society
that I believe is really tiredand tries to do a lot of things
to find rest, when actuallywe're just making ourselves more
tired.
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Why are you looking
into my soul while you're saying
that?
Why are your eyes piercing?
Speaker 4 (10:18):
me.
I got the venti coffee thismorning, so I should be the one.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah Well, I mean, I
was literally just telling you
like I am having to literallypray for the energy to record
this podcast right now, becauseI'm just exhausted.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Yeah, I mean, there's
a, there's a phrase that I say
this all the time.
I don't know if everyone elsedoes, but I remember students
saying it where they say it'sjust a lot, it's just a lot,
it's just a lot man, and I thinkthat's become a really common
way to answer the question ofhow are you or how's life?
It's just a lot.
I think students, maybe morethan ever, are involved in more
activities, and social mediatricks our brains into thinking
(10:57):
that we constantly need more andmore and more and just makes us
more tired.
So, yeah, so this summer we'retalking about that.
Where do you find rest in Jesus?
Speaker 1 (11:05):
And how do you do
that?
So, and for adults and likepeople in ministry this is
another crazy thing too is Ifeel like we have almost
historically worn it as like abadge of honor yeah to be like
I'm busy, I've got a lot goingon you know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah, it's crazy, yeahand so we're kind of addressing
that which is going going to bea lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
So I know you said
you don't want to give too much
away.
I don't know anything that ishappening in the summer by the
way, I love that Listener.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
I have no clue.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Can you give us like
a tiny peek behind the curtain?
Can we know something that'syou know like something fun,
something cool, something we'retrying?
Yeah, is there anything we canknow?
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Yeah, for sure.
I will tell you about probablyone of the projects I'm most
excited about, because it's alittle bit different and it
affects some other pieces ofprogramming.
I won't go into full detail, butthere is going to be a series
of like a film project wherewe're going to follow the lives
of a handful of students thatare going to be trying this sort
of like.
(12:04):
I'm not going to say the nameof it, but it's going to be like
this challenge, this 21 daychallenge of living differently,
living a different way thanmaybe they're used to, and we
just kind of follow the progressof that and the stories that
have come from that, like justwithin those 21 days, of how
it's affected families, how it'saffected even their group
leaders, their church.
It blew me away.
(12:29):
We knew it was going to bereally cool, but it's blowing me
away in the sense of what Godhas already done through just
those students.
I think it was like fourstudents in 21 days, and
students that attend Move thisyear will have the opportunity
to also try this 21-daychallenge course, whatever you
call it, and I'm just excited tohear the stories that come from
that too.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
So that's one of
those like beyond the event
things.
We're challenging students likeokay, for the next 21 days, try
this out.
100%.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Oh, cool, and that's
going to be.
That's probably the biggestdifference this summer is the
way that we're ending is more sookay, how do you, practically
every day as a student, findthis rest and live this
different way of Jesus?
The last day we're talkingabout pace.
How do you live the pace ofJesus for the rest of your life?
And this project kind of comesalongside that idea and I'm
(13:13):
excited to see what happens withstudents and student ministries
through this and it's going tobe different.
But I think this generationreally desperately needs to
change some things practicallyto find that rest.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
And so do head Right.
How do I get out of this Right?
How do I?
I don't even know what it is,but it's like if it's designed
(13:50):
to make me slow down.
It's going to be uncomfortable.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
It's going to be hard
, yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Like it's going to.
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
I will say this.
I'm going to give a shout outto a book called the Common Rule
.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
I?
I can't remember his name.
Is Justin something?
Yeah, do you guys have shownotes?
Can we put it in the show notes?
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, we'll put it in
the show notes, man.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
I read this book
before, like right when I moved
here back in August, and itreally changed a lot of what I
do daily and that kind ofsparked this idea to create a 21
day challenge for students tobe able to do as well.
So that sparked it.
But also the ruthlesselimination of hurry was another
(14:29):
book that sparked some ideasand so, yeah, just great books,
great resources.
I will say this I am going tobe doing this 21 day challenge
in May, leading up to the summer.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
And I'm excited.
That's hard, oh for sure, yeah,it might be.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
April, but at some
point before the summer April or
May I'm going to do that andyeah.
So just a way to kind ofprepare my mind for what we're
going to be talking about thissummer for students.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Justin Whitmull Early
.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Yes, and it was a
three-parter.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
That's the guy
three-namer, Three-namer.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Three-namer.
So you know it's got to be good.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Yes, the only way it
could be better is if he was
just JW Early.
Yes, you know A couple ofinitials and the last name.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
That guy is studious,
yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, but when you
talk about pace, that's one of
the first books that actuallypopped into my mind as you were
talking about that.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
And it's not 21 days
of these completely drastic
crazy maybe for some at first, but a lot of it's just some
pretty simple steps that you cantake that'll keep you on that
pace with Jesus.
So it's exciting.
I can't wait, man.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah, okay, you are
fresh in your job at CIY, for
sure, you are just brand new.
Yep, tell me what you likeabout CIY the culture of being
here, the staff.
What do you love about it?
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Or, you know, make
something up if you don't love
it.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
No.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I do, I love it.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Yeah, man, it's
awesome and it's different.
Obviously, you know, for thosewho are in student ministry,
like you know, with that weeklygrind going back to that work,
you know what that's like andyou have something that you're
working towards every week, which would be Sunday or
Wednesday, right, you've alwaysgot something coming up.
So it's a little bit different,or both.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Right or both Exactly
yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Or both, probably
both, and multiple services on
sundays, you know, a lot oftimes.
But so it's very differentbecause we're working towards
something that happens, you know, one time in the summer and
that's what we're working for.
But, man, it's so cool to bewith people, collaborate with
people.
Um, the amount of creativitythat just comes from one meeting
with a group of five people isinsane to me on this team, like
(16:43):
just the capacity creativelythat people have here to just to
take an idea and make it evenbetter or to create a new idea
completely.
It's a very, very creativeenvironment in that sense,
collaborative, but also, youknow, a lot of people see what
we do every summer.
They come to our events, theylove it.
But to see people have the sameattention spiritually
(17:06):
throughout the year isincredible to me.
The amount of times that I'vehad conversations with people
that are really checking in onme like dude, how are you doing?
Can I pray for you right now?
Just yesterday, how can I prayfor you right now?
Cool, let me do that, let mepray for you.
So that's just kind of all.
Throughout the staff year it'sbeen super fun and then also
just all the fun that we have.
Like today we have Pi Day,there's pie that's going to be
(17:29):
served and it's going to begreat.
So just little things like that.
It's a really fun environmentand exactly what you see from
the outside is what you'regetting on the inside, and
that's really encouraging to me,right?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
I tell people that
all the time that I was almost
hesitant to work here because Ihad such a high view of CIY and
I was like, do I want to seebehind the curtain?
Here, Do I want to know?
Is this going to ruin thisthing that has played such a
pivotal role in my own spiritualdevelopment?
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Yep a million percent
.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
And nope, it did not.
Only more respect andadmiration for the people that
work here.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Absolutely.
It's a good crew.
I remember being in the truckdriving here and having that
thought of, like man, what ifit's?
Speaker 1 (18:13):
the worst.
What if it's not what I think?
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Yeah, but the
complete opposite.
Right, it's what you see, andmore.
Which has been great, it's thebest.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Yeah, it's the best.
Okay, mikey.
Yep, we, it's the best.
Okay, mikey.
We have a time-honoredtradition on this podcast.
Wonderful when CIY staffmembers come here and talk to
the people we do mailbagquestions.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
So we have questions
that youth pastors have asked
and you are going to answerthose questions.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Do we have an actual?
Speaker 4 (18:49):
physical mailbag.
No, okay, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
But if you can
imagine.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
I like your imaginary
mailbag Brad.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Me pulling.
We have had people send usphysical mail before and I'm
sure people get tired of meplugging this, but please send
us mail.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Please send us mail.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
I want pictures.
I I've never gotten picturesjust just questions.
Postcards, yeah uh, packages,at times even with family
christmas cards, uh, no, familychristmas cards.
See, these are.
These are the ideas we needthis is the kind of
collaboration that we need hereon beyond the event.
If you want to mail ussomething, po box b, joplin,
missouri, 64801.
(19:25):
We'll have Mikey back on.
He'll critique all of yourfamily photos.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
So can we get some
Christmas in July.
That's what we need.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
We are going to be
busy.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
That's true.
We won't even be here.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
They will too,
they're not going to be home.
We are not going to berecording this podcast in July.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Fine, we'll wait till
December.
We can do Christmas inSeptember.
Great, does that work for yourschedule?
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I will be here
waiting for you all to review
these family pictures.
I love it Okay, mailbag, allright, mailbag, michael.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Mikey, we have a
question from Tim Gray.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
I know him.
How so, Tim Gray?
He's a legend in the world ofyouth pastoring.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
He was the reason
that we moved to South Florida.
I interned with him in studentministry and then that
internship turned into afull-time job and then I stayed
there.
So I was there for eight and ahalf years because Tim was so
gracious to invite me to do aninternship with him and then he
started doing more of adultministry, small group stuff, um,
but I stayed obviously doingstudent ministry but played a
(20:32):
lot of disc golf with him.
Um, he's beat me a lot, uh, indisc golf, but he is a fantastic
human, the nicest person and uh, yeah, love Tim Gray.
He's awesome.
So Tim's question.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Oh yeah, sorry,
awesome.
So tim's question oh yeah, sorry, he has a question uh, he
wants to know what your favoritetype and shape of chip and why
my favorite type and shape ofchip your favorite type and
shape.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Okay, computer chip,
potato chip poker chip yes.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Sd cards no.
Um, I'm gonna go.
Okay, a new chip that I'vediscovered.
Um, tara is my wife and she'salways on the lookout for um,
like finding versions of foodthat we like that maybe aren't
as good for you, and findinglike the good version, like the
more organic version.
We have found a more organic, healthy version of Cool Ranch
(21:27):
Doritos.
It's like a chickpea chip whichsounds gross it does, but it's
fantastic.
Okay, packer protein it's atriangle, which that would be my
favorite shape, triangle chips.
And then, yeah, I love likeCool Ranch Ranch.
I mean, I'll still eat CoolRanch Doritos, don't get me
wrong, but now that we have thishealthier version, I can slam
(21:48):
some.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
It's pretty great.
So is it like you eat this chip?
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Yes, and it's like
okay.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
I can see the
resemblance, or is it like I am
eating a Cool Ranch Dorito?
Where is it at on that spectrum?
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Okay, I would say a
little less dust.
A little less dusty, a littleless dusty, okay, so maybe less
flavor.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
So less finger
licking.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
But not yeah, true,
which you shouldn't do anyway.
Well, then, no, you should Okay.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
My favorite chip is
Cheetos Puffs.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Oh, and that's like
definitely finger licking, I do
be licking my fingers.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
That's something that
happens.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
That's fun.
Yeah, can't wipe that on thecouch.
I would say, yeah, I would sayit's pretty similar.
I'm not going to sit here andsay it tastes exactly the same,
because people will bedisappointed.
But they sell them at Walmart.
They're in a obviously blue bagwith some yellow writing on it.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
It's like writing on
it um, it's great, yeah, so all
right, check it out.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Triangle ranch no, uh
, free association on this
podcast, so please don't say thebrand name there they can
contact us if they would likesponsorship opportunities.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Uh, pikel, do you
have a favorite chip?
It?
Speaker 2 (22:58):
might be.
It might be like dorito coolranch maybe, but but I hate.
I hate chips or other fingersnacks that leave residue on my
fingers okay um, because I wouldhate to be the guy that says,
hey, can you take a picture ofus and hand my like sticky phone
to someone.
Nobody wants to be that guy,you know.
(23:20):
So, uh, no, so it might beDoritos, but it also might just
be like normal potato chips.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Nice Great.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Love it.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
What are other shapes
?
I'm trying to figure that out.
Do you remember?
Speaker 1 (23:33):
3D Doritos yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Do you remember those
?
They were kind of puffy.
Yeah Right, yeah, those weregood.
It kind of looked like a cereal.
I mean, there's lots ofdifferent shapes, different
shapes.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
there's like ruffles,
oh, and then there's like the
regular things you saidtriangles, which is great,
kettle cooked.
Kettle cooked is like its ownkind of thing.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
They're like a weird
uh kind of uh amorphous yeah
blob, can I kind of change myanswer?
Speaker 4 (23:58):
can I give you my
second answer?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
we're spending a lot
of time on chips.
That's fine cape cod barbecue.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Thank you okay hey,
we have another question.
We have another question.
We have one from Luke Sayre.
He says what's a trend that yousee in youth ministry right now
that excites you?
And this is a two-parter.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
What's a trend you
see in youth ministry right now
that we would be wise to rethink?
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Ooh, my answer to the
first one is perfect for the
answer for the second one isthat, okay, they're the same
answer.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Yeah, that's what I
mean by that.
Sorry, it's like I'm excitedabout it but also we shouldn't.
Yes, well, it might be a weirdreason to be excited, but okay,
so here's.
As I was exiting studentministry in south florida, this
is what I noticed.
This is the trend that I saw,um or I should say we I worked
with a guy named alex weirdafantastic human as well and
great youth pastor and him and Ikind of noticed the same thing
where, at least in our groupcontext, our group became much
(24:51):
less interested in things thatrevolved around hype and they
wanted more just time to talkand community and like eating
together, um and the.
The way that we saw this wasvery interesting.
We had an event where we spent,um a good amount of the budget
for the event on, like, somearcade games that you could play
.
We kind of had them out in thecourtyard and, um, you could
(25:11):
come and play those games andthen we had pizza on the other
side of the courtyard and as welooked out at this crowd, there
were maybe two kids playingarcade games and everybody else
was just standing eating pizzaand talking and laughing and
having the best time, and I meanthat's just one example, but
there are many other examples inin that time where we just
realized, man, they just want toconnect, they want to talk,
(25:34):
they want to spend time witheach other.
And man, the fun hype, highenergy stuff is great.
But I think that shifting thefocus is something that is going
to have to happen and that'swhy it excites me, because I,
you know, we would all muchrather sit and talk and have
that, those good relationshipswith students, and have them
have those with each other, so Ifeel the same way about wedding
(25:55):
receptions.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Okay, yeah, I'm like
please don't, don't like, we
don't have to program the wholething.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
We don't need the
game with the shoes and the
things and we don't all need todo the whole thing.
Yeah, we don't need the gamewith the shoes and the things
and we don't all need to do thethe bouquet toss and the
whatever like, just let me sitand chat too much people.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I do like the dance
though, like where you get to
dance with your mom or dad.
Those are sweet, no, that'svery sweet.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Yeah, keep those.
Yeah, keep what?
Uh, what song did you dancewith your mom to at your wedding
?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
why would you do that
to me?
Oh man, it was probably RascalFlatts.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
I was going to say my
wish by Rascal Flatts.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
It has to be.
It wasn't.
It was a country song.
My mom will not listen.
Well, she might listen to this.
I don't remember.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Rip.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
I really don't
remember.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
I'm so sorry, mom.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
It was so sweet,
though it was a great moment.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Okay, so we could,
I'm sure it was.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
We did the thing
you're excited for.
part two Did we do that yet Well, it's just kind of an addition
to that thought is that shift atleast in our ministry that was
taking place and prettyobviously shifting, made us
excited because then we wereable to program things
differently.
It changed a lot of what we didand it kind of just simplified.
We spent less time maybethinking about the crazy high
energy, all that stuff, and itwas more like how do we just get
(27:15):
students to sit and put theirphones down and maybe not even
realize that they're doing it?
But they are, they're talking, they're connecting the questions
that they're asking?
It changed our group dynamics.
We're small groups and so howwe wrote questions and all that
so just kind of brought someenergy to that and it was.
But it was an obvious shift forus and I don't know if that's
(27:37):
true for other ministries, maybeit's not, but that's something
that we saw where we were inFlorida.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
And it excited me.
Yeah, luke, great question.
I will see you at Mix thissummer and I'm very excited for
that.
Speaking of which, where mightpeople run into you this summer,
mikey, if they want to shakeyour hand and look you in the
eyes and tell you that you did agreat job on the program?
I would love that.
Where could they do?
Speaker 4 (27:59):
that They'd probably
be like.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
You look so different
than what you sounded like I
just have a feeling that's goingto happen.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
Yeah, I'll be in
Michigan.
Okay For Move.
Am I allowed to say I think soI'm new to this.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
I can just say where
I'm going.
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Michigan one and two.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
I will be there, I
will be in Nebraska.
Great event, super fun, and Iwill be obviously Missouri one.
I'll be there for that.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
That's like our first
Joplin one.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
And I might be
popping in to check out some CCV
stuff.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
That's still a little
tentative, but that's kind of
out there as well, so that'swhere I'll be Awesome, awesome.
Well, I hope people get thechance to meet you.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
I love you.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
I'm so glad you're
here.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Oh my gosh, this is
so great for me.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Thanks for being here
, man, it was a good
conversation.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
It was a good
conversation.
Thanks for having me appreciateit.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Mallory, I love it
when you were on this podcast
well, thank you, brad.
I'm glad you're here.
Thank you glad we get to dothis again.
It's so much fun.
Mikey Sackrider was just onyour.
Your move.
Counterpart.
I love him and he's fromFlorida, you know that I do and
we did the florida man thingwith him oh have you ever done
(29:22):
the florida man thing?
Where you google like floridaman and your birthday yes well,
we have to include you so pleasegoogle what?
What's your birthday?
october 30th, I share oh, yeah, the day before.
Day before.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Halloween.
I share a birthday with HenryWinkler the Fonz.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Yeah, the best, okay,
okay.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
This is your Florida
man story.
Okay, florida man mauled afterpaying for quote unquote full
contact experience with a blackleopard at backyard zoo.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
I wasn't prepared for
the Florida man to not be the
one that did.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Did the mauling.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
No.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Like I wasn't
prepared for he didn't do
anything wrong.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
He paid for a full
contact experience with a black
leopard.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
I know, but there's a
company that offers that, so
they're in the wrong.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
It said a backyard
zoo.
I would just.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
I would just like to
point out I'm still shocked, but
completely unsurprised that ofthe four of us Mallory's had the
most wild Florida man and Iwant to stand by that man.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
I'm going to stand by
my man and I'm going to say
that he did nothing wrong.
He was just paying for what hegot and he got what he got and
it's very sad and he didn'tdeserve that.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
If you're out there,
Florida man, you can contact
Mallory Jenkins at CIYcom.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Well, I'm assuming he
died, Did he not?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
I don't know, I
didn't read the article Mal.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Do your research.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Do your research,
come on Come don't know, I
didn't read the article mal.
Do your research.
Do your research.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Come on, michael's
gonna look into that while we
have a conversation aboutsomething better thank you,
michael, um how you doing today?
I'm doing good.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Yeah, I'm doing great
you're here, it's pie day.
It's pie day.
Did you get some pie?
Speaker 3 (31:28):
yeah, I was a little
late to the podcast because I I
was eating pie yeah, what kinduh, I had a sliver of ore and a
sliver of peanut butter.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
I love peanut butter
pie.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Hey, did either of
those have cream cheese Because
they both sound delicious, butI'll pass if there's cream
cheese.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Oreo was a whip cream
base and then peanut butter.
Yeah, I think it was creamcheese.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Did you know that
Michael will not eat cream
cheese or sour cream?
Speaker 3 (31:54):
I won't eat sour
cream.
It's a cold on a hot and I hateit.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Why would?
Speaker 3 (31:59):
I cool down my hot
taco.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I love sour cream.
That's all I got.
Okay, let's talk about mix.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
All right.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Um mix.
How many?
So how many summers have youbeen like full-time staff member
programming for mix?
How many?
What summer is this?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
this is eight this is
eight this is eight summers
that's so fun total, this wouldbe 11 because you traveled with
mix for three summers, for threesummers beforehand.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Yeah, yeah yeah, so
um, I so I want to start by just
letting you kind of lay outwhat we're talking about at MIX
this summer, which people haveheard from Mikey so similar, but
I want to hear your perspectivefrom junior high world.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yes.
So we're really excited that weget to talk about rest this
summer.
When we met with youthministers last year and we were
just talking about what dostudents need?
What do you see in your youthministries?
Over and over it was just aneed to slow down, to find
margin, to find rhythm withJesus and find a good pace.
(33:10):
And so the idea of finding restfor the rest of their lives is
what came to mind.
And so getting to kind of campout in the Bible and finding
places where Jesus found rest iswhere we're going to be.
And so rest of your life is thetheme, and both Mikey and I
(33:33):
we've been working together, andboth Mikey and I we've been
working together.
And so Move and Mix have verydifferent looks, very different
feels because of age, intentional programming, and so
Move is very like their look andfeel.
It is so cool Like it is veryhigh school it is.
It's going to be so cool in theway that they are encountering
(33:57):
these stories and we do overlapwith some of our stories from
the Bible.
But something that really stoodout to me as I was kind of
reading through stories of restwas, you know, psalm 23.
And so, as we've been goingback and forth and discussing.
Mikey is going to use Psalm 23in the morning sessions and then
(34:22):
his night sessions he's goingto go elsewhere in the Bible and
so with MOVE, they have ninesessions.
That's a lot.
We have seven, which is onlyjust two less.
But we have this amazingability, which I love at CIY,
where we can say, hey, I thinkthis way, and I think this way,
(34:42):
and we can create thesedifferent experiences for
different age groups.
And so the MIX team is workingon this experience of starting
with Matthew 11, come to me allwho are weary and carry heavy
burdens and this first night, just saying you know, he is the
(35:05):
one that is willing to walkbeside us.
He is the one that came to thisearth.
We can rest because Jesus cameto teach us how to rest and he
has the authority to teach usbecause that is why he came.
He came for us and to walkbeside us.
(35:27):
And so let's listen this weekand let's learn this week, and
I'm going to learn beside you.
And then the next six sessions.
We are going to hang out allweek in the six verses of Psalm
23.
And so we're going to justbreak down Psalm 23,.
(35:47):
You know the Lord is myshepherd and I'm just so pumped
for students to just take amoment to rest and memorize, and
so something that we're goingto do this year I'm excited
about is we have an incredibledesign team and an incredible
interactive team and film teamthat they've all been working
(36:08):
together to create this bumper.
There's a lot of differenttypes of bumpers we have.
Typically, when you say bumper, you think butts in seats, you
know the fun razzmatazz that youknow plays between you know the
worship team going away andsomebody walking out and kids
can go back to their seats, orthe opposite.
(36:30):
You know it's playing while theband comes out and they all
rush to the stage.
Yeah, yeah, while the bandcomes out and they all rush to
the stage.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Getting people hyped
up.
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
But this year it was
like what if we used that
intentionally and said, hey, let's build a bumper that is
scripture-led, that is meant formemorization, so it builds off
of each other.
So we're going to take Psalm 23one step at a time, and so
we're going to learn the pasturepart.
(36:57):
So let's, let's learn onethrough three and let's just um
sessions, you know, on day twoand night two, let's see it
twice, and so students couldjust rest in that and say, okay,
what do these words mean?
And so our beautiful world, uh,from our design team, uh,
(37:18):
matthew Harris made thesegorgeous worlds for us.
I mean, he hand drew all ofthese designs, which is just
incredible and probably was alittle too like precocious.
It was like you did the poster,it's gorgeous, you want to make
more.
And he was like like yeah, Imean sure yeah, because he's
(37:38):
just so agreeable and wonderful, and so not that his voice
cracks, my voice just crackedbecause it was like, yeah,
because it was so, so much hardwork.
But he made us a location foreach day.
So you know we're going to talkabout the rest of your life,
but let's break this down forwhat it means for the week.
(37:59):
So let's start in the pasture.
So the Lord is my shepherd, Ihave all that I need.
He lets me lie down in greenpastures.
So that means a sheep doesn'twant for anything.
A sheep laying down in apasture means it has eaten its
fill, it can rest.
So we will be hanging out in abeautiful pasture, this
(38:20):
beautiful cartoon pasture, andso we can learn scripture that
way.
But then the scripture goes onto talk about dark valleys, and
so we can watch the pasturebumper and help students
memorize scripture, and then gopast the pasture into another
location, into the valley, andwe can keep playing this video
(38:44):
and it grows and it lengthens sothat students can learn
scripture.
And then eventually, our lastday, we get to the shore, and
the shore, surely your goodnessand your faithfulness will
pursue me the rest of my lifeand surely I will live in the
house of lord, forever, you know, and this shore, you know,
(39:04):
leads into this beautiful sunsetand saying, yeah, the earth is
round, or at least we hope it,we know it is, you know um do we
know?
he's like hot take In the year2024, I have a hot take, but
it's, you know, it's cylindricaland so it's like no, let's
(39:24):
repeat.
You know we're going to gothrough times of rich rest and
pasture and we have our fill, but we're going to go through
dark valleys, but the shore ison the other side, like we are
going through ups and downs, andthis scripture tells us that
the Lord is always there with us.
And so, students, hold on tothat truth that the Lord is your
(39:49):
shepherd and you shall not want, and even though you go through
dark valleys, he is there andyou can live with the Lord
forever.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
So here's a crazy
thing.
Yeah, this is a question I have.
You, even as you're describingthat are describing very
peaceful, beautiful, tranquilstate of being right.
Even your voice is like verysoothing, calming, whatever.
So I want to know how you aregoing to talk to middle school
(40:23):
students about this and stilllike, let them be, middle
schoolers you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Good question yeah
will have so many different
things for students, because webelieve it makes that students
need to pause and play and so,with this week of rest, our kind
of mission is is for studentsto think if I don't know where
to find rest now as a middleschooler, where will I find rest
(40:59):
the rest of my life?
And so we want them to pauseand play this week.
We want them to be kids and alot of times, with our grueling
daily schedules at home, whenwe're doing chores, when we are
going to extracurricularactivities, when we're going to
school, when we're doing allthese things, we lose that
(41:23):
pausing.
We lose that play.
We lose these moments thatreally make you a child.
And kids don't like to becalled kids or children, but
when you're a sixth, seventh andeighth grader, you are a child.
You just want to grow up, butyou are a child and that's why
we intentionally want to callthem students.
We in all of our you know all ofour printed material, but even
(41:48):
the things that no one sees, just our material the MCC or
speakers or hosts I make surethat we're always typing
students because we don't wantto call them kids, because we
know that that's a respect thing.
They don't want to be called it, but they should, they should
play and they should have fun.
So we're going to have thoseopportunities.
(42:11):
Outer Realm this year is wild.
It's going to be so fun in thefact that it is, uh, dinosaurs,
and so it is dinosaur doomsdaypreppers, okay amazing so.
So imagine, imagine the dorkiestlooking dinosaurs you can yeah
(42:32):
that they were prepping for themeteor.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
What if they'd been
prepared?
Speaker 3 (42:38):
Yeah, yeah, what if
they were?
Speaker 1 (42:39):
What if they?
Speaker 3 (42:40):
saw things flying in
the sky and they were like hey
guys, should we like I don'tknow what if?
And so we have one that hisname is Stash and so he has a
mustache, but also he's thecanner he's getting the cans,
he's getting the food he has alot of s also he's the canner.
Okay, he's getting the cans.
Yeah, he's getting the food.
He has a lot of satchels, yep, satchels.
(43:00):
Yes, see stashes in my head.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
Yeah, stash Statch
Statch yes.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
He has a lot of like
fanny packs a lot of things
strapped to him, so he is theone that has everything.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Now, then we got
boots you know, we got one that
he is the weather guy.
He's got the umbrella, he's gotthe boots, he's got the
forecast.
He knows what's coming.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
Very important, very
important, when a giant meteor
is coming towards the Earth.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Yes, yes, yes, and
then we have, you know, one that
can fly.
Yeah, I'm trying not to tellyou what they are, but you can
probably use your imagination.
But I want it to be a surprise.
So, one that can fly.
So he's got the bird's eye view, he can really keep a lay of
(43:53):
the land and he is the spy, heis keeping everything lay of the
land and he is, you know, he'sthe spy, he is keeping
everything, he's the messenger,he's communication, he's got it
all.
And then we got Tic Tac.
Tic Tac, he's the one that'sgot all of the technology.
Okay, so he's got like a radarthing on his tail, like one of
those dish you put on yourhouses Like he's got one on his
(44:15):
tail.
He's got tactical goggles, he'sjust you know night vision.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
He is ready if power
outage because they've got
electricity, you know, orsomething.
It reminds me of what's KiwiKwan's character from the
Goonies.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Yes, yeah, yes.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Yeah, what's his name
?
I don't know, oh dang it, butthat's Data.
He's Data from the Goonies.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
So all of our four
Outer Realm teams have been
preparing for the meteor tostrike.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Can I guess the
colors of all of those?
Speaker 3 (44:55):
Yes, you can guess
the four colors.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Stash is red, boots
is blue.
The one that flies you didn'ttell us the name I don't think
is yellow and Tic Tac is green.
Am I right on any of those?
You were right on one Dang it.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Boots is blue because
it's just over the plate.
Yeah, boots is blue, stash isgreen, boots is blue, tic Tac is
data.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Tic Tac is yellow,
and then I think we call him pt
because he's a pterodactyl niceum at one point his character
did have tp on his tail yeah, because he Because he had TP PT.
(45:46):
So, I'm confused on what weended up calling him Probably PT
, but I want to say it doesn'tmatter, it doesn't matter.
We'll see.
It might just be like bird.
Speaker 4 (46:00):
I don't know, I can't
remember.
Speaker 3 (46:02):
But it's really fun,
so it's going to be great.
I don't know, I can't remember,but it's really fun, so it's
going to be great.
And then the opposing sidewould be the cool dinosaurs.
So you always have kind of alittle bit of somebody's always
trying to take their supplies.
We had a dog catcher, our poundyear.
So, this year it's the coolkids in school, so imagine the
(46:24):
jocks.
These are the.
These are the dinosaurs thatdid not prepare.
Okay, they're the raptors andthe t-rex and we know how their
story ends.
Yeah, rip well, all of them, butbut rip um.
So the raptors and the t-rexes,they are not the mascots,
because we realized thateverybody would want to be a
(46:45):
raptor or a t-rex we realizedthat would be a fighting battle
all summer long, so we made themthe cool kids that they're,
kind of like the villains thatare coming in and being, like yo
, we weren't prepared because wewere just, you know, we were,
you know, picking up the chicks.
(47:07):
We did not get the cans, we didnot prepare at all.
So now they're coming in andtrying to like hey, share your
stuff, yeah, share your goodslet us live too let us live too,
and so that's kind of a littlebit of the conflict once
everything goes down that soundsso fun and I can't wait to see
how it all plays out.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
Um want to hear one
more thing about mix.
So been doing this for eightyears, mix, um kind of follows a
formula.
You know, when people come, they know what to expect what's
something new, what's somethingwe're throwing at the wall.
This year that's like going tobe fun and if you don't, you
don't have to give away too much, okay.
But if you could just give us alittle peek.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
So something we're
really excited about, because
it's theme specific is that onday three morning we are going
to have a very untraditional.
That's not a word.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
It is now.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
It is now A very
non-traditional.
Non-traditional unconventional.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
However you Let me
start it is now, it is still A
very non-traditional,Non-traditional, unconventional.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
However you want to
look at it, yes, yes,
unconventional, non-traditionalmorning session where our
heartbeat is to teach studentsthat Jesus went into the
wilderness to seek isolation andto seek being with God, and he
taught his disciples how to pray.
He taught so many people thatthey could go to God and they
(48:32):
could step outside of theiraverage schedule and their
normal rhythms to seek God.
And so what we want to do is wewant to practice that at Mix.
And so what we didn't want todo was say here are some tips
for how, when you get back toyour normal schedule, you can
introduce times with God and notpractice it at mix.
(48:54):
So we want to break our normalschedule of morning session
night session.
Morning session night sessionmorning session night session.
We wanted to do something nottraditional at campuses whether
it's rain or shine.
we are going to put on thisamazing experience for students
(49:28):
to go and experience God, and alot of them are most of them are
self-led.
And so you can do them in thedorms, but most of them they
have things all over campus thatyou can go and go to a station
and it's like, hey, this issomething you saw in our Kingdom
Worker videos.
(49:48):
Now let's break it down andlet's discover what we could do.
Or here is this activity, orlet's go do this sidewalk chalk
and explore rest in the Biblethe Bible and students could
(50:09):
kind of lean into the thingsthey're interested in and they
could discover.
Oh, that's rest that I wouldlike to.
I would like to lean into whenI get home.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
So it's not like
they're doing all 25.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
No.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
It's like oh, we can
pick 10 that are that really
resonate with our group and wecan go and do these things.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
Each experience could
range from five minutes to 20
minutes to 30 minutes, dependingon your group.
If you have a group that wantsto run through and wants to get
done as many as possible, youcould get done maybe 12, I think
, or go for it, try to get done25.
(50:47):
But please do not disrupt theothers.
But we do have some time slotswhere we're going to have
scripture being read over thestudents at the zone and we'll
have 15-minute worship slots ofacoustic worship and we'll have
prayers happening and we'll haveall these different things that
(51:11):
you can do as a small group tosee where, hey, worship can
happen with music, but it alsocan happen with me playing with
Legos, it can happen playingcard games and thinking through
the make and the model of a game.
(51:31):
And is this a game that is madefor me to look out for myself,
or is it a collaborative game?
And these little acts ofactivities together in
conversation, could really buildand bond groups together and
really it's up to the smallgroups what they get out of it,
(51:53):
and we hope that this is, andour desire is to set up groups
and set up the churches to havea wonderful experience where
this is something that theywould love.
But our hearts are to give anexperience that truly is restful
(52:14):
and is setting an example ofwhat students could do and see
what they love to do and howthey could see Jesus beyond this
week.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
Yeah, very cool.
I am.
I'm excited I didn't get to doa mix last year and I get to do
two this summer and I'm sopumped.
I'm so pumped to watch it playout.
I think it's going to be agreat, a great thing for our
churches and students toexperience.
So, bravo, brava, on all ofyour work with that.
So with that, mallory, it istime for the mailbag.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
So wonderful yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
I love that mailbag.
They brought some heavy hittersfor you.
Actually, I don't know ifthat's true.
I have not read the questionsMichael has.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
We have a question
from Michelle Cruz Fan favorite,
she always does.
And she's asking can I haveMallory or Caleb's job, pretty
please?
Speaker 3 (53:12):
Oh, Michelle.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
She can have Caleb's.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
Yeah, she can have
Caleb's.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
Great.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
I'll let her know,
not Mallory's.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
I really love it.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Yeah, I know it's so
hard for me to imagine literally
anybody but you doing that job.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
But we're all
replaceable, well sure but that
doesn't mean that we have to bereplaced, I know, but I was like
I don't know, I don't want towillingly give it up, but one of
our Kingdom Workers storiesthis year she's incredible this
(53:49):
year she's incredible.
And I don't know if it'll makethe cut of the video, but at the
very end I just very kind ofsolemnly, like you're gonna take
my job.
One way I was like just give me15 years.
Like, just give me 15 years.
You're 14, like I'm 31.
Now you'll become like.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
I will pass the baton
to you.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
Like become my age
and then I will be old.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
And you take, I won't
be old.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
But that person is
not Michelle Cruz.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
No, she's old too.
Yeah, she'll be 45 too.
Not saying you're too old, butsaying I will be on to the next
chapter.
Yeah, and she will be youngerwith the youths yeah, you know,
yeah, totally I gotcha hername's emmy, and so, michelle no
yes, caleb, no mallory yeah
Speaker 2 (54:38):
great, we'll set up a
meeting with caleb and michelle
and hash it out.
Yeah, um, hey, we have aquestion from our friend hayley
fouts.
Hayley fouts maury I think thisis a great question for you to
get to answer oh my gosh, I loveher so much hayley's asking
what does collaboration looklike in the office across staff?
Speaker 1 (54:59):
oh my gosh oh gosh
great question oh, I feel like
we could talk about that for anhour.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
Oh my gosh, we really
could.
It's really good.
And she probably asked thisquestion like weeks ago.
And then she actually camebecause she's one of our event
staff last year.
And then she came over herspring break she's a backstage
manager for Superstarts so shecame to the office and sat on my
(55:25):
couch in my office.
And then I never came to myoffice and really sat down but
like twice that day because itwas like hey, this thing changed
in about the mix set.
And then it was like okay, andthen I like left and then it was
like we have an idea aboutdesign.
And then I like left and shewas like helping me with our
(55:45):
wilderness experience.
She was helping me write somestuff.
And then I come back, I'm likehow do you feel about that?
And then somebody would be likeyoo-hoo over here.
And then I was like all right,I mean it is just chaos, but
it's great chaos because we havea lot of amazing people on our
team that have brilliant ideas.
(56:08):
And also, you don't have tohave brilliant ideas.
You can champion brilliantideas, they don't have to be
yours.
A film pitch this year isprobably going to be the best
ever.
It was Alex Christian's idea.
It is a clip game for ourstudent-only session and for our
(56:32):
morning show.
It's called Survival of theFittest, where we're going to
take our staff in dinosaurcostumes and we're going to put
them through conditioning, youknow know, to see if they would
survive right a disaster.
And then later in the weekwe're going to put them through
natural disasters, sure you know, mudslide, ice age, hurricane,
(56:56):
winds being hunted.
We're gonna put them through itand um who are these people?
um avery josh yeah cam, yeahmika checks out amy mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
Cory okay and alex.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
Yeah, so there's just
a lot of people yeah it's a lot
of.
We had to use our staff for aliability insurance.
Yeah, we had to use our stafffor liability insurance.
Speaker 1 (57:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
We can't just freeze
some contracted person footsie
pajamas on a skating rink that'sbeen freshly zambonied and let
you throw exercise balls at themas they try to make it to the
other side, right?
This is an email that I, anadult human, sent to many
skating rinks in the four statearea and was like hey, can we do
(58:00):
this?
And one was like heck, yes, baby.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
And I was like thank
you.
Speaker 3 (58:07):
And so it's amazing,
like collaboration is not just
having good ideas and pushingthem forward, it's championing
great ideas.
And so Alex had this amazingidea, and then it's my job to
champion that.
And so it's like I'll find anice rink, and so we have these
(58:29):
also amazing people on staff.
That's like, yeah, I will puton footsie pajamas and
yabba-dabba-doo across ice andtry to make students laugh by,
you know, standing up and sayingI think the teal dinosaur will
make it across all these things, you know.
(58:50):
And so it's so fun and it's sointeractive and it's so silly
and it's so meaningful.
And so, yeah, we're going to dosome really awesome rest
activities and have studentsthink through prayer and think
through times of I don't know, just pensive moments of thinking
(59:14):
about.
You know, what do I lack?
Speaker 4 (59:16):
What do?
Speaker 3 (59:17):
I need what don't I
have.
But we're also going to letthem just be wild and be like
yes, I am watching two dinosaursfight it out, white knuckle on
a tube being pulled by aspeedboat.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
Because that's
ministry.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
And I love it.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
Everything is kingdom
work.
That's what I learned atSuperstart this year.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
It really is?
It really is or not?
Speaker 1 (59:46):
everything is, but
everything can be.
Kingdom work, amen.
On that note, mallory, I thinkit's time for us to wrap up our
time together.
I'm so excited for Mix.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Hey, one last note
before we really wrap things up.
The Florida man lived.
He had to undergo multiplesurgeries.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
How old is he?
And is he single?
Oh my gosh, this is it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
I am not sure.
I don't see an age anywhere.
But I might be able to find out, but I don't know how quickly.
Speaker 1 (01:00:18):
Keep digging.
What's your range?
I'm 31.
Yeah, I don't know this is it?
Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
I'm getting excited?
I don't know.
This is it I'm getting excited?
I don't know, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
Like if he's 50,
you're still going to go for it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Okay, Brad, don't be
gross.
Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
I'm not, I'm asking a
question.
All right, we have to wrap thisup.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
I don't know, but is
he going to the Flora event?
I'll be there, we.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
I'll be there, we
should.
I'll try to.
I'll try to invite him.
I think we can find out.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
Oh my gosh invite him
and, just like I don't know,
see, vet him for me okay, I will.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
I will um stand by
your man do I have permission to
give him your number no okay,uh, michael, can, can we be done
?
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
yeah, okay, point him
to my Instagram.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
