Speaker 2 (00:04):
Friends, welcome to
episode 283.
And today we are talking about2025 edibles trends.
Welcome to Bite Me, the showabout edibles, where I help you
take control of your high life.
I'm your host and certifiedgonger, margaret, and I love
helping cooks make safe andeffective edibles at home.
(00:26):
I'm so glad you're here andwelcome back, my friends.
We are going to be doinganother fantastic episode of
Bite Me Today and I'm reallylooking forward to this subject
matter because I think there'slots of things happening in the
cannabis industry that arereally exciting.
But don't take my word for it.
This episode is a compilationof thoughts and predictions from
(00:50):
folks who work every day in thecannabis industry, and they're
going to share their insightswith you.
Stay tuned for a really funepisode today.
If you have just discovered theshow for the first time, I'm
really excited to have you here.
How did you discover the show?
Let me know.
I love to hear from newlisteners and if you've been
(01:10):
around for a while, thank you.
Thank you for being here.
It's not easy creating a showfrom scratch which I did five
years ago, five and a half yearsago and I wouldn't be here
without the regular listenerswho support me each and every
week.
So thank you.
(01:33):
I'm here to ask you all as wellhow's your mental wealth going
so far this year?
Prioritizing sleep, diet, exercise, stress management I'm
working on all those aspects tohave the best year possible.
Now, of course, I've beenworking on some of these for a
number of years.
For me, one of the things Ireally have been working on more
as of late is trying to get tobed earlier, and I do go to bed
at a reasonable time, but I willoften find myself doom
(01:55):
scrolling.
I'm sure many of you arefamiliar with that mindless
habit that keeps us up farlonger than we were intending to
.
Or I'll stay up watching a showon my laptop, you know, with a
goal to get off my phonecompletely, but I'm not always
successful and I find myselfstaying up longer than I want to
, and then my sleep isn't asgood as it can be.
(02:16):
And sleep is so important.
The reason it's been listedfirst and all those five health
markers, is because it is soimportant.
The science behind it now isjust growing about how important
it is to get your sleep so youcan wake up feeling refreshed,
so you can heal, so you can feelbetter, like all these magical
things happen when you'resleeping.
While I often use cannabis inthe evenings to unwind and relax
(02:37):
and it does help me with somesleep I've also found that,
combined with Magic Mind Sleep,I get to sleep faster and I
enjoy a deeper sleep as well, which is pretty important, and I
often can check my scores on myOura Ring, because I have an
Oura Ring that will allow me tosee the kind of sleep that I'm
getting, because, as an adjunctto that, I can also tell when
I've had a drink.
(02:58):
If I've had a glass of beer ora wine later in the evening, it
will disrupt my sleep and I cansee that too.
And so I'm really working ongetting that better sleep,
because I just feel so muchbetter the following day and I
get so much more done.
Otherwise, I can sometimes findmyself really dragging my feet,
especially mid afternoon.
I'm sure many of you have thatsame feeling.
So I use Magic Mind when I'msitting down in the morning to
(03:20):
work, because it gives me thatfocus and clarity that I really
crave.
That helps me work withoutdistractions, and then magic
mind sleep when I go to bed, andthose two things have been
really helping me to prioritizemy health so far this year and
it's a wonderful tool.
In the toolkit that includes ahost of other things that I'm
using, like cannabis, meditation, exercise, keeping the sweets
(03:41):
to a minimum that's one reasonwhy I infuse my sweets, because
then I can only have so many.
So there's all kinds of thingsyou can do to sort of build that
toolkit so you can have abetter mental wealth and
resilience in 2025.
So why not join me in making2025 the year you build your
mental resilience?
You can improve your sleep andyour awake clarity with Magic
(04:03):
Mind.
It's doctor validated, backedby research, and you can get 45%
off the Magic Mind bundle withmy link.
It'll be in the show notes, butit's magicmindcom forward slash
.
Bite me, jan.
And with that let's get intothe trends in 2025.
(04:24):
Now, most of these are going tobe around edibles, but not
exclusively, and I got somereally interesting feedback from
folks who were willing to sharewhat they thought we were going
to see in 2025 as far ascannabis and edibles goes.
These are people who work everyday in the cannabis industry.
They have their ears to theground and I mean I do too to an
(04:44):
extent, but not the same waythat these folks do.
Let's start at the beginningwith Warren Bobrow.
Warren was a guest on my show,oh, probably five and a half
years ago.
He was one of the first not thefirst, but he was, at the
beginning, one of the firstguests that I ever had on my
show.
Warren is known as the cocktailwhisperer and he has also
(05:05):
created a beverage for thecannabis market in the US.
With that, I'll let him tellyou what he thinks is going to
be happening in 2025 withedibles, in particular,
beverages.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Hi, this is Warren
Bobrow and I think where drinks
should be going where I hopethat they're going is to make
well-prepared.
Where I hope that they're goingis to make well-prepared,
delicious, craft drinks usingthe best ingredients that money
can buy, that are not seltzers, that go beautifully with food
(05:35):
and complement your dinner andcomplement your lunch and
complement your lifestyle.
Not just get-high-qu quickproducts, but products that
speak clearly to the quality ofthe ingredients at hand, Using
hash rosin, live hash rosin fromsmall farms, preferably female
(06:01):
owned, like I do out in NewMexico with my craft cannabis.
Live hash rosin, frozen custard, the mesral recipe with Dutch
bliss, and I just hope thatpeople use better ingredients,
simply prepared with love.
That's it.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Next we have Jackie
Magaskill, and Jackie is the
author of Chill Wine Lover'sIntroduction to Cannabis, which
is a wonderful book If you'relooking to introduce cannabis to
any of the wine lovers in yourlife.
She is also the co-founder ofSheesh Hash Colas.
This is what Jackie had to sayabout cannabis trends in 2025.
So the first point she makes isthe expansion of cannabis
(06:41):
beverages.
This expansion is attributed toconsumers seeking alternatives
to alcohol and traditionaledibles.
As a result, we'll see more tea, cocktail flavors and sparkling
waters available.
This will continue tocontribute to a greater
normalization of cannabis andsocial settings.
She also points out that A risein female consumers point
(07:02):
number two Producers andretailers will increasingly
focus on edibles, tinctures andtopicals and beverages that
appeal to female consumers, whomake over 80% of the purchasing
decisions in the US and are afast-growing segment in cannabis
.
And number three an increase inlow-dose and minor-based
products.
This trend will reflect theshift towards health conscious
(07:24):
consumption and will supportproducts that are designed to
promote stress relief,relaxation and overall
well-being without the intensepsychoactive effects.
Next we have Kina Moffat, andshe has also been on the podcast
Flower and Foodie.
This is what she had to sayThank you for including me in
your upcoming episode.
I'm excited to share my thoughtsfor what's ahead in 2025 in the
(07:46):
cannabis ed, herbal infusedbeverages to take center stage.
(08:10):
These products have thepotential to redefine social
experiences, offering the samesophistication and ritual we
associate with bars or cocktailparties, just without the
alcohol.
What excites me most is howthis trend leaves the door wide
open for mixology innovation.
Cannabis infusion in adultbeverages is an untapped
frontier, blending herbalismwith the art of crafting flavors
that are both enjoyable andfunctional.
Think bespoke cannabismocktails featuring terpenes and
(08:34):
adaptogens designed to enhancemood, promote relaxation or
spark creativity.
The result a social experiencethat's elevated, mindful and
perfectly suited to the modernfoodie.
As someone passionate about theintersection of cannabis, food
evolution and creative culinaryexperiences, I see 2025 as the
(08:54):
year when infused beveragesbecome not only an alternative
but a mainstay in adult socialculture.
The potential to bring herbalwisdom and culinary artistry
into this space is trulyinspiring, and I can't wait to
see how it evolves.
Next we have Amanda Breeze, andshe and her co-host Ryan of the
(09:15):
Smoking Spot shared theirpredictions for 2025, focusing
more on flavor, hi.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I'm Amanda Breeze.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
And I'm Ryan Herron.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
And we're the hosts
of the Smoking Spot podcast.
These are our predictions forflavors in 2025.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
I think we're going
to see edible makers having more
fun.
They're getting bored of theold watermelon and mandarin
orange flavors.
I just picked up a bread andbutter pickle flavored 100
milligram edible last week and Ithink, as packaging costs have
come down a lot for these guys,it's really easy for them to
flex on a dime and drop newflavors.
(09:52):
So we're going to see weirdone-offs, chef collaborations
and more fruity combos that wehaven't seen until this year.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Okay, my prediction
for 2025 is that, as we're
seeing brands moving away fromrefined sugars but
simultaneously the rise of theluxury cookie companies, there's
going to be an influx of bakeryflavors that feature maple and
brown sugar, maybe combined withother warm ingredients like
vanilla or lychee.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
So true, we're
looking forward to hearing
everyone else's predictions anda lot more flavors, smells and
edibles in 2025.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Those are some
fantastic predictions, amanda
and Ryan, thank you for that.
And this really leads inbeautifully into this next
comment by Kelly Kreutzer.
She is the founder of KreutzerConfections and I hope I have
pronounced your last namecorrectly, kelly.
Apologies if I have not, andthis is what Kelly had to say.
In the US edible market, thereare so many brands out there
(10:50):
just pushing the same products.
I think it's crucial for thesebrands to raise the bar when it
comes to other ingredients andinfusion methods.
For my own creations, I go withsolventless cannabis, like hash
or rosin, along with freshingredients.
It really makes a difference inthe overall edible experience.
I'm hoping to see more brandsstepping up and improving the
(11:10):
quality of ingredients they useacross the board.
Next up, we have Chef AdamVandermeer of your Canna Chef
sharing his thoughts, hispredictions for 2025.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Hey, margaret, it's
Adam from your Canna Chef and
thank you for asking me to kindof put my two cents in as to
where I think the trends inedibles will go this year,
(11:48):
future for cannabis and, quitefrankly, I would love to see the
trend be that infusions becomepart of kitchen pantries, that
adding in cannabis into even aTuesday night meal becomes the
norm and that's how we get ourmedicine.
I know that's how I do, gettingthings into pantries.
I think that and normalizing itthat way, absolutely love
(12:10):
listening, and I'll put in aplug here for the Bite Me
Cannabis Club too, because ifany of the listeners there
haven't been there, go over, itis so awesome and we'll see you
there.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Love it and I
appreciate the plug, Adam, as
well.
Next we have the predictionsfrom Karen of Sense and Purpose
and she says in general, currentconsumers will look for even
more convenience and good value.
Smaller format flour willcontinue to decline.
Pre-rolls will continue to bethe fastest growing in
(12:45):
combustibles If, as a technologyimproves in the vape category,
this growth will also pick up.
Until then it will see steadybut slow growth.
Newer consumers, specificallywomen and people 55 years old
and up, will become more centralto category space allocation
and product assortment.
(13:06):
Relaxation, sleep, then anxiety, mental health, other primary
need states to address.
Edibles, specifically gummies, will see continued strong growth
due to variety and costeffectiveness.
We'll see a surge when theregulations are amended to allow
100 milligram THC per package, which would allow 10 milligrams
(13:27):
max per individual piece, whichis quite a bit more than what
we're allowed today in Canada.
Beverages will see exponentialgrowth as more and more
consumers move away from alcohol.
Wellness as a subcategory willoutpace the growth of the more
traditional high potency, lowprice offerings that dominate
(13:47):
the category today.
From an industry perspective,we will continue to see a
proliferation of bankruptciesdue to massive loans coming due
and or the inequity of thebalance of power between LPs,
licensed producers and brandsand the flow of cash.
This will most likely lead to asignificant increase in the
number of mergers andacquisitions.
That's a really insightfulpiece that hasn't been
(14:09):
considered yet, and I appreciatethat.
Karen, and last but not least,I have the take of Corinne of
the Wake and Bake podcast, andhere's what she had to say.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Oh girl, you know I'm
gonna do DIY because I don't
know anything that's going on inthe industry.
I was I don't know anythingthat's going on in the industry.
I was like, oh shit, do I haveto go to a dispenser and ask
somebody what the trends are?
No, I, I obviously always comeat things from a DIY angle and I
think that the biggest trend,at least for me and as I've been
developing for my book HighlyMedicinal has been the use of
(14:42):
concentrates and how.
I really don't want to do itany other way and I think that
concentrates are the easy button.
There are so many good, highquality products that are on the
market now, especially here inWashington.
You know we have access to RSOmade with food grade alcohol
that's ungrown, that's singlestrain, and a bunch of different
.
You know cannabinoid profilesand also, after talking to Dr
(15:06):
Joe, the guy who wrote theCannabis and Cancer Connection,
and talking about the differentthings that are extracted and
expressed with differentconcentrates, I'm much more just
interested in using them tomake medicine.
They taste better, they'reeasier, there's no cleanup,
they're really affordable whenyou think about it from a
milligram perspective and youcan get great deals on them.
Full spectrum concentrates, cooking with that for the win.
(15:30):
So that's my prediction in 2025that everyone is just going to
give up on flour, unless you'regrowing it and start cooking
with concentrates and enjoy yourlife and your time in your
cannabis kitchen so much more.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
And that's everyone,
and I think if we were to do a
wrap up, because there wasobviously a number of things
that stood out to me, there's anumber of things that a lot of
experts agreed on.
One is that we're going to seemore of a health focus around
cannabis usage, and maybe thatcomes with more consumers over
the age of 55, women who aregetting into cannabis, or more
(16:04):
cannabis.
Curious, it also sounds, then, that people are now that we have
legalization happening in moreand more jurisdictions, people
are becoming more curious.
The stigma is lessening, albeitslowly, but it's happening.
Of course, discovering cannabisthrough food is one of the most
beautiful ways to sort of startout with cannabis, because we
(16:25):
all have to eat and there's somany options.
But again, these options thatwe're finding on the legal
market, the ones that are reallyresonating with people, are the
ones that are using extractsinstead of a distillate, so more
of a full spectrum experience, like using hash or concentrates,
and whether that's in thecommercial market or whether
it's people who are makingedibles at home.
(16:46):
I have been having more andmore people asking me about
using concentrates to makeedibles, so that's something
I'll be looking at in this showfor 2025 as well, and perhaps
also the intention andmindfulness that goes along with
the cannabis consumption.
I'm also excited to hear aboutthe adoption of these
interesting new formats, likebeverages, with younger people
(17:06):
who are suddenly realizing thatalcohol, although it's
completely socially acceptable, the health implications aren't
always the greatest and theycertainly don't always make us
feel too good.
So they are really interestedin adopting some of these new
products and sort of moving awayfrom alcohol, and I think that
will really help us to see theintegration of of cannabis and
(17:33):
other like compounds in socialspaces.
And I'm excited for that aswell, because I there are many
times I would love to go out toa bar and be able to purchase
something other than analcoholic beverage, and if that
was an option open to me, Iwould be all over that.
Now, many of these folks dolive in the US, and so their
(17:53):
experience is going to be alittle bit different from what
we enjoy here in Canada, but Ithink the general trends it
seems like across either side ofthe border folks seem to agree
on many of these things, creating more fun flavors and
more interesting products for anincreasingly discerning group
of customers as well, so theseare all really exciting things
(18:14):
to see for 2025.
Like I mentioned, I aminterested in learning more
myself about using concentratesin making edibles, because I've
had numerous people tell me howthat is their preference for
infusing, whether it's at homeor when they're going out to a
dispensary, they want to buysomething that has been infused
with a hash or a live rosin orsomething like that, instead of
(18:36):
the distillate that you commonlysee, because the high is just
so much more robust when you'reenjoying it in a full spectrum
kind of infusion.
But I'm really excited about2025.
As far as these trends go, I'mI'll be very curious to see how
it shakes out, so when I'mrecording the episodes for
December, if a lot of theseshake out.
But I think it's going to be aninteresting year and I'm really
(18:57):
glad that you're all here forthe ride.
And next week I'm excited tohave Karen on the show from
Sense and Purpose.
She was mentioned earlier withsome of her predictions, and so
you can learn more about whatshe's doing in the cannabis
beverages space in Canada.
And, of course, don't forget tocheck out magicmindcom forward
slash.
Bite me, jan, to get 45% offyour Magic Mind bundle.
(19:18):
And I am looking forward to afabulous 2025.
There's going to be a lot offun things happening, so I'm
glad you're all here for it.
There's going to be a lot offun things happening, so I'm
glad you're all here for it.
Do check out the Bite MeCannabis Club, because there's
going to be a lot of fun thingshappening over there as well.
So until next week, my friends.
I'm your host, margaret.
Stay high.
