Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome back to Botox and Burpees.
I have with me my regular guest, sasha Rhee, my daughter 20, or
sorry, 19.
She's currently a sophomore incollege and this episode is
about skincare.
And the reason why I decided todo this episode was because we
have an Amazon account and Iwould notice that 90% of it were

(00:28):
these skincare products and Iwas like what is all this?
And obviously I think mydaughter has very nice skin and
she takes care of it.
I, as a plastic surgeon, knowthe basics of skincare and I do
some basic management, but notenough to really delve into the
little fine minutia of it, andso I thought it would be

(00:50):
interesting just to go backthrough all of these crazy
products that she orders andjust ask her like, why Crazy?
Yeah, well, all right, all ofthese diverse set of skincare
products and why she uses them.
So I'm gonna go through, and Iknow some of these diverse set
of skincare products and why sheuses them, so I'm going to go
through, and I know some ofthese are your mother's, so
we'll skip over those.
I just can't keep track of allof them, so let's see here.

(01:15):
The first one is how are you?
By the way, I'm good, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
I'm good.
Had a rough couple weeks of myskin actually, so we're back.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
All right, well, you know, with the end of-.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Vinyl season.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, it can be very stressful.
Stress is one of the big ones.
Lack of sleep, all right.
So I think you told me thatthis was this Dr Althea 345?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
345, yes, that's yours.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
That's my most recent moisturizer, okay so it's
called Dr Althea and if anyonewants to know what any of these
products are, let me know and Iwill DM me either on YouTube or
on Instagram at Botox andBurpees Podcast and I'll let you
know what it is.
On the details on Amazon, thisis called Dr Althea 345.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Relief Cream, daily Face Moisturizer, blemish relief
care, soothing recovery andmoisture with niacinamide,
panthenol, korean, veganskincare for all skin types so
don't know what half of thosethings are, but I recently
bought this is my most recentpurchase it's um, a moisturizer
that you put on at the end ofyour skincare routine, and every

(02:15):
korean person or person thatdoes korean skincare knows that
there's like a 10 step processyou're supposed to do 10 steps
yes, you gotta get in with theprogram.
So this is my question.
I actually was influenced ontiktok to buy this.
Which tiktok does influence mewith a lot of my korean skin
cares?
Because a lot of influencerswill say I've tried all these
different things.

(02:35):
I recommend this.
That one was really goodbecause I saw a lot of tiktoks
where it was like the before andafter of using it for like a
week and a half and it reallyhelped them and I like it, um,
so I decided to try it outbecause my old uh moisturizer
was from innisfree and I boughtit at the h mart in durham and
like carry, actually near durham.
Um, yeah, and I'm alwayslooking to change it up and I

(02:57):
like it.
Five stars out of five oh, allright.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
How about this milk makeup one?
Is that yours?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
yes, it's not mine, but yeah, so it's called milk
makeup one.
Is that yours?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yes, it's not mine, but yeah, so it's called Milk
Makeup.
Hydro Grip Primer Hydrates andgrips makeup for up to 12 hours.
All skin types, vegan, crueltyfree.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yes, that's actually mom's order, but she bought it
because I have it.
Basically, that is not like askincare product, but it's to
like protect not protect yourskin, but it's supposed to make
the makeup stick to your skin, like if you I've seen um like
gymnasts, for example on tiktokput that primer in their hands
and like it.
They use it as like the gripthat they need on the bar oh my

(03:34):
god, sticky.
So you could use that on likecrossfit for like I guess, yeah,
but it's supposed to like stickit to your face and it works
yes, it's because it's supposedto like, so your makeup doesn't
fall off your face or melt orwhatever.
If you're sweating and thingslike that, it's supposed to
really stick it because if youwear like foundation, that's
covering your whole skin so whendo you use it?
Before I put my makeup on everyday not all the time.

(03:56):
If I'm going out, for example, Ihave a long night or like a
long event ahead of me, I willokay, how about this?

Speaker 1 (04:02):
uh, skin gym ice, cool ice roller.
Is that yours?
No, I got that for katie.
Oh, okay, uh.
And then how about this tatcha?
Mom, okay, let's skip that onethen yeah, we want youthful
products here the MediCube DeepVita-C.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Those are moms, but I use them a lot actually.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Okay, so it's the MediCube Deep Vita-C facial pads
, vitamin C toner pads foruneven skin tone, 500,000 ppm of
vitamin water and three typesof vitamins hydrating and
resurfacing.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Is that the brown?
Yeah, with the gold?
Yeah.
So I have the other version ofit, but it's very similar.
Same brand, medikube, verypopular brand for korean
skincare.
Essentially, you know how, likesometimes you have toner,
you'll put it on the cotton padof course no, I have no idea
what you're talking about okay.
So a lot of people will usetoner and like they'll.
It's like a toner is like toprep your face after you wash it

(04:53):
okay and so a lot of peoplehave a thing and you pour it
into one of those calm pads andwipe it on your face, supposed
to get rid of all whatever'sleft over from like you washing
your face.
These are pads that are alreadypre-soaked in this like
chemical concoction and so what?
You just have to take out a pad, wipe it on your face.
You can leave it on your facefor a little bit and you throw
it out and that is supposed toget all like the rich vitamins

(05:15):
in and like those um pads Ithink have like a lot of pores
to really soak it up.
I love those.
Uh, that's the first step of myskin routine, morning and night
out of 10 yes, I don't know if Ihave a 10 step, but it's
typically supposed to be 10 okaykoreans know what's up all
right, uh metacube Collagen.
Also use those basically.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Okay, so it's Metacube Collagen.
Overnight Wrapping Peel OffFacial Mask Pack.
Elasticity and hydration carereduces sagging and dullness.
Hydrolyze collagen for glowingskin.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Already actually used this two days ago.
This is also mom's, but I useit a lot.
It's now.
This is an overnight mask, soit's full of collagen.
You take a spatula that theygive you with the thing, you
squeeze it on, you wipe it onyour face and it creates a thin
layer so when you sleep it likebecomes a mask and in the
morning you can just peel it off.
Collagen is a really popularthing now because you know I'm

(06:08):
sure you know that's supposed tomake your skin like youthful
bouncy.
You know all the things thatyou want a healthy skin, so it's
very like that's.
The collagen is like.
Everyone really usually has aproduct that has collagen in it
at some point in their skinroutine.
For me, I have that same thing, but it's um a serum and I use
that.
That's like step four, I think, maybe step five.

(06:31):
I have so many, so how do you?

Speaker 1 (06:34):
even keep track of all these.
I swear to god all importantfor different things.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Collagen making you look young, All right.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
How about the Celamax Jiwuge?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
That's mom.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Okay, how about the Face Shop?
Rice Water, bright Foaming.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Oh, the pink one.
Yeah, that's my new cleanser Irecently bought because I found
mold in my old cleanser.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Okay, so this is the Face Shop Rice Water.
Bright Foaming Facial Cleanserwith Ceramide.
Gentle Face Wash for hydratingand moisturizing.
Vegan face cleanser.
Makeup remover for all skintypes.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Yes, so that's step two of my skincare routine.
It's a cleanser.
You wash your face with it, youscrub it, whatever.
That's like a water-basedcleanser.
So that's the one that gets allfoamy.
Really, that's the one thatgets all foamy.
Um, really like it.
I got that one because I neededa new one because, like I said,
my other one like had mold init.
Um, cleansing is like aquintessential.
You need to at least be likewater cleansing.

(07:24):
I double cleanse, so I have twosteps for washing my face what
is the first step?
the first step which issomewhere in there, I was like a
long time ago is an oilcleanser.
I use the centella, onecentella that's essentially like
not it's like oil like in yourhands, but you use it to like
melt, because you know oilrepels oil, like melt everything
off, whether you're wearingmakeup or you have pores, and

(07:45):
then, because you don't wantthat oil to build up in your
pores, you then use, go in withthe water cleanser after and
that gets rid of everything.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
So you need to double cleanse I assume soap has never
actually touched your face inyour entire life.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Like regular soap.
Yeah, why would I do that?
These are made for your face.
I'm not putting body wash nearmy face.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Of course.
What was I thinking?
Mario Badescu drying lotion.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Yes, also bought that .

Speaker 1 (08:11):
Oh so Mario Badescu drying lotion for all skin types
, Fast, fast acting.
Blemish spot treatment withsalicylic acid, sulfur and zinc
oxide Dry surface blemishesovernight.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I have actually so many pictures of me wearing this
because I look I would pull itup, but I look so stupid because
it's a drying lotion.
This is also like, for example,a lot of these things are
overnight.
If you don't want to use thatMedi-Cube collagen mask that
dries on your face, you can usethis.
I use this when I have pimplesafter I'm doing my skincare and
I'm like, shoot, I need to getrid of them very quickly.
This you put a q-tip in it hasthis pink stuff, the bottom of

(08:44):
all, like the chemicals, and youdot it wherever there's a
pimple on your face.
You put it right on top, yousleep in it, wash it off the
next morning.
It's supposed to like calm thepimple.
Um, really good.
I bought that actually becauseI had a couple of late night
pimples I do.
I was like I need to get rid ofthese immediately.
But really good, and even someguys use it, like Nick uses that
, for example.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
No, I remember this has been around for a long time
and I know because I've seen itin our cabinet and I think the
two things anything like what Iusually do for plastic surgeons
is for like acute issues, if Ihave to manage something, the
biggest thing isn't just to getpeople not to touch.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
No picking, peeling, squeezing and if you make them
put stuff on their face thenthey're less likely to actually
touch it.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
This also soothes the pimples, usually like when I
put it on.
So I don't want to like touchanything and it dries very
quickly.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Right MediCube Triple Collagen Serum.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Oh, that's the pink one.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Oh, that's the one I bought that one.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
That's the one that I use.
Okay, very good Step five in myskincare routine.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
The Mighty Patch Original Patch.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Oh, pimple patches.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, so it's a Mighty Patch.
Original Patch from HeroCosmetics.
Hydrocolloid Acne Pimple Patchfor covering zits and blemishes
in face and skin.
Vegan friendly.
Not tested on animals.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Very popular as well for these pimple patches.
There's a bunch of differentbrands.
I like the clear ones becausethey kind of hide in your face.
This is like if you need adaytime or nighttime solution to
your pimples, you can wear them.
I wear them sometimes to class, where I have pimples on my face
.
You just cover them.
They don't work the best foryou.
I don't have that much likeactual, like zits per se.
I have like more whiteheads.
I have seen though a lot of thetime you wear them it really

(10:25):
sucks everything out of thepimples.
When you take it off it's muchmore like toned down.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Does more like toned down.
Does it have to be popped thepimple in order not?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
necessarily, these help pull it out, like pull out
all with the pus, whatever is inthere, so that you don't have
to pop it.
Um, these are very popular, Ithink.
I see so many kids wearingpimple patches now, even guys.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
I see a lot of guys wearing pimple patches now I
would approve because it justprevents them from or makes it
less likely for them to touch it.
Uh, and if it's somethingthat's a little bit soothing, so
be it.
That's great.
Moisturizing, that's great.
Medicube Zero Pore Pads is thatyou?

Speaker 2 (10:59):
That is that the white one.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
With a blue.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
That's the one that I actually use.
Yeah, like the other ones arewhat mom uses, I use those.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Oh, so this is a MediCube Zero Pore Pads 2.0,
dual texture facial toner pads, exfoliation pore care with 4.5%
AHA alpha hydroxy acid, lacticacid and 0.45% BHA beta hydroxy
acid.
I think Salicylic acid, idealfor all skin types.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah, those ones I really like because I've gone
through a lot of different tonerpads the Medi-Cube collagen
ones, the Medi-Cube Vita-C, andnow these, and this is my second
this was the second one that Ibought bought actually because I
went through my first one veryquickly these, like I said,
always the first step of mynight routine after a double
cleanse, so step three.
Really like them because thesepads have the pores but also one
side is like bumpy almost andthe other side is smooth.

(11:45):
So that's where the exfoliatingcomes in, because you can, like
you know, like the bumps kindof help you like exfoliate your
face.
Um, and all, obviously, all thetop skincare products.
These days everyone has somesort of acid in their skin,
whether it's salicylic whateverit's called salicylic or bha.
Some people do chemical peels,as you've seen, like we've seen
yeah, I used to do those forpatients, yeah and then also

(12:08):
it's just like.
Everyone, though, has some sortof serum or toner with that,
because that acid is supposed tobe good for you, apparently
yeah, it's uh, both uhantibacterial.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
A lot of the alpha hydroxies and the beta hydroxies
are like exfoliants as well, soit helps to just like clear off
all this gunk so it doesn'tclog and and cause uh breakouts.
All right, I can only gothrough like maybe two or three
more of these and then I'm sortof like up to here with skincare
.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
You don't want to hear my 10 steps.
I mean, I know every product.
Oh my God.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Let's see here how about this?
You don't use MadagascarCentella.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Oh okay, that's the Centella, okay, so yes, you went
deep into the order history.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yeah, that's yeah.
So Madagascar, centella LightCleansing Oil gentle oil
cleanser for face.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
That's the first step of my skincare routine that I
told you that bottle I don'teven know when I ordered that.
It's lasted me since then andI'm almost done with it.
But usually I'm like a consumerI mean I'm peak consumerism,
I'll buy something and then Iwon't finish it with it.
I'll buy a different onebecause 3talk influenced me to
cleansers.
I've stuck with the entire time.
This oil cleanser has been theonly one I've used and I this is

(13:24):
the first time probably in mylife that I've actually used a
product like in flex as someonewho's paying for your amazon uh
purchases, that makes me sad soum, top tier also was influenced
from this.
Through tiktok this one girlthat I really like, who is kind
of similar skin type to me, sheused it.

(13:44):
I will say also I am luckyenough and where.
A lot of these products.
They look great on tiktok andthe influencers love them.
But people don't realize if youhave sensitive skin a lot of
these are bad for you Like ifit's sensitive you don't want to
put like a lot of chemicals onit.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
As sensitive as your skin.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
I don't have sensitive skin.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
You do not.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
I was blessed with great genetics guys.
Neither of my parents had thatbad acne, so I have pretty like
durable skin.
I would say Like I can try abunch of new products, and some
people have to really give it atrial run or put it on their arm
or something because they'reworried they'll be allergic.
I don't think I've ever brokenout from a single product Very
lucky Purito Centella UnscentedCream.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
It's green.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Oh wait, Are you sure it's not a serum?

Speaker 1 (14:29):
It's a serum.
Yes, thank you yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
That's step.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Sorry, it's Purito Centella Unscented Serum.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
That's step seven.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Ampule Soothing, Calming Facial Serum for Face.
Vegan and cruelty-free.
Why is everything vegan?

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Because people like my aunt, for example, will not
buy it if it's sensitive onanimals.
My aunt, you know emo.
Her entire skincare and beautyroutine are all by products that
do not test on animals okayit's a big ethical concern,
apparently because also the themakeup industry has been doing
it for so long that noweveryone's pushing for them to
not, okay, love this serum.
Same girl on tiktok thatinfluenced me to buy that oil

(15:04):
cleanser also influenced me tobuy this.
This is kind of like I don'treally know this is helping my
skin that much, but it's coolingso essentially.
So essentially, you know, sometimes my face is red, you
know, like I have blemishes, whatever I put this on, and it's
just very cooling to my entireface.
So that's step seven or eightof my skincare routine.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
How long does your skincare routine take?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Not that long, Like with washing my face and
brushing my teeth like 10minutes.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Wait, you can do 10 steps in 10 minutes.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Well, because you're just putting it on your face.
Wow.
Do you want to hear my 10 steps?

Speaker 1 (15:37):
No, I don't, I don't.
If people want listen, if wewant to, if enough people want
to hear it, then we will do awhole episode about the 10 steps
of your skincare routine.
All right, last product here.
Wait, are you the Beauty ofJoseon?

Speaker 2 (15:54):
The eye cream.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yeah, is that you All ?
Right Beauty of Joseon.
Revive Eye Serum with RetinolNiacinamide Correction for Puffy
Eye Bags, fine Lines, darkCircles, wrinkles.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Wow, I forgot this was like.
This must have been in likeAugust or September.
This is my big skinnieroverhaul.
These are all staple pieces ofmy skincare routine.
This is my big skinnieroverhaul.
These are all staple pieces ofmy skincare routine.
This is step nine.
It's an eye cream.
Essentially, I liked gettinginto eye creams in high school
because you know, they get ridof bags.
I think I don't have that badbags.
Honestly, I think it's kudos tothis cream because it has a lot
of retinol.
When you're dealing with eyebags, you know retinol is all

(16:28):
the rage right now.
It gets rid of wrinkles, likeit says, fine lines.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah, but you're 19.
How many wrinkles in like bagsdo you really?

Speaker 2 (16:35):
have?
I don't know.
I'm an econ major.
Life's hard.
But I think it's just good, evenbecause like it helps, Because
I think eyes are a very centralpart and so if you can have a
light under eye section, it doeselevate your face.
I like it because I think it'sjust good to have something
focused on that area, Liketypical moisturizer is just to

(16:55):
keep your skin clear.
But you know, with eye bags andstuff like that, a lot of
products you see nowadays arelike, like, instead of just face
masks there's eye masks now, like just for your eyes.
It's a big thing in Koreaespecially.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
All right, okay Well.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Love that product, 10 out of 10.
I love Beauty of Joseon.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Would recommend.
Huh Well, thank you, sasha, forjust a little bit of a deep
dive into your Amazon orderinghistory on skincare.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Thank you for paying for those.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
I did not even realize I was to be honest.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Amazon is the life hack if you want to buy
something and your dad won'tknow until years after you
bought it.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
It just comes as like a bill.
I don't know until years afteryou bought it.
It just comes as like a bill, Idon't know, all right.
So anyway, if you would like toknow more about any of these
skincare products, let us know.
Hit us up on the YouTubechannel under comments, or DM me
