Jama Pantel (00:00):
If you've ever felt overlooked, even when you're
the most qualified person in theroom, this episode is for you.
Hey, y'all, it's your podcast,bestie Jama again.
And today we're digging intosomething that's hard to admit,
but so real.
You're smart, you're capable,you've done the work, you've got
the credentials, experience, and receipts to back it up, but

(00:23):
you still feel invisible.
You wonder why you're notgetting the recognition, the
opportunities or the platformyou deserve, despite being more
than qualified.
If you've ever looked aroundthe room and thought "why do I
still feel overlooked when I'vedone everything right?
Again, this one's for you.
Let's talk about the emotionaltoll of being overqualified but

(00:44):
still unseen, and what to doabout it.
Here's what I know fromexperience: being overqualified
doesn't always translate tobeing seen, heard or valued, and
that disconnect can feelpersonal, even when it's not.
You work hard to prove yourself.
You check every box, you showup prepared, reliable and often

(01:06):
better than expected, butinstead of respect or visibility
, you're met with silence or,worse, you're dismissed
altogether, and that hurts andit creates this quiet internal
conflict where you start towonder "am I doing something
wrong?
Is it just me?
Spoiler alert it's not you.

(01:27):
I've made mention of my start inpolitics before, and it's a
huge part of why I am the way Iam today.
So I often had a lot ofexperience in the room.
I did the prep work.
I anticipated needs, I followedthrough, and yet I'd watch them
get credit while I stayedbehind the scenes.
At first I told myself this isjust how it is.

(01:50):
Over time it chips away at yourconfidence.
You begin to wonder if yourpresence even matters, even
though you know what you bringto the table.
And that's when I realizedbeing overqualified doesn't
guarantee visibility, especiallyfor women who've been taught to
stay in the background, playnice and not rock the boat.

(02:10):
Here's the real issue.
Visibility isn't just aboutcompetence, it's about ownership
, it's about voice and it'sabout learning to step forward
instead of waiting to be invited.
And I know that can feel risky, especially if you've spent
years trying to prove yourselfwithout making waves.
But here's the truth, you don'thave to earn the right to be

(02:32):
seen.
You already have it.
So here are some actionabletakeaways for you.
If you feel overlooked, eventhough you're qualified, one
stop over explaining yourself.
You don't need to justify yourvalue.
Let your work speak and let youspeak.
Take up space on purpose, whether it's in your content,

(02:55):
your meetings or your personalbrand.
Lead, don't wait and also namewhat you bring.
Confidence grows when you ownyour role out loud, not just
behind the scenes.
You don't need to tone it down.
You don't need anothercertification.
You need to believe your voicebelongs in the spotlight now.

(03:16):
Being overqualified isn't theproblem.
Being overlooked is.
But you don't have to keepshrinking to stay likable.
You don't have to keep provingwhat you already know.
You're not invisible.
You're just in the process ofstepping out of the background
and into your power.
So if no one said it lately, let me say it now.
You've already earned yourplace.

(03:38):
Now it's time to show up likeit.
And that's all I've got fortoday.
If this episode hit home withyou, share it with a woman who's
done the work but still feelsunseen.
And if you haven't yet, pleaseleave me a quick review.
It helps the show reach morewomen who are ready to stop
waiting for permission and startshowing up like they belong.
Until next time, y'all keepliving the whole picture.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
