So let me start here with alittle bit of tough love.
If you're still blaminggenetics, if you're still
blaming bad luck, your age forfeeling tired, slugg or out of
shape, you're living in a fixedmindset and it's holding you
(01:49):
back.
I say this with love now, because I've been there.
I used to believe that I wasstuck in a cycle of exhaustion
and decline until about 2014,when I read a life-changing book
called Mindset by Dr CarolDweck, and it completely shifted
(02:11):
how I saw not just my healthand my potential, but my entire
life.
It taught me that by adopting agrowth mindset that I could
take charge of my health, Icould take charge of my life, I
could create a better future formyself, and you can find the
link to Mindset in the shownotes.
(02:31):
I highly encourage that youcheck it out and read it for
yourself.
I remember I actually listenedto the audio book and it was
unbearable for me to get through.
I got through it, I got throughit, but sometimes I enjoy the
audiobook version of a book andsometimes I do not, and that one
(02:52):
was one that I enjoyed.
Reading it more than I enjoyedlistening to it, but I highly
encourage you to read it if youhaven't already, because if
you're ready to optimize yourhealth and reverse aging and
truly thrive, your mindset isthe first place to start, and
that's why we're starting heretoday.
(03:13):
I just got to take a sip of myuh, my ashwagandha and honey
lemon tea here.
Oh, that's so good.
So in our last episode, wereally set the stage for this
year, for 2025, if you'relistening to this currently
focusing on high-performancehealth strategies to live to 100
(03:35):
years old and beyond withvitality.
These are not just concepts.
These are proven strategiesfrom the latest science and from
decades of research and studyand clinical practice of what is
working today.
That I learned as a certifiedhigh-performance health coach
(03:55):
over at theintegrativehealthpractitionerorg
.
If you're interested inchecking out what that
curriculum looks like, you cancheck it out there, or there's a
link in the show notes.
There's a link in my socialbios for the IHPI.
You can check that out overthere.
So today we're diving deeperinto one of the most crucial
elements for achieving that goal, and that is your mindset when
(04:18):
it comes to optimizing forlongevity and anti-aging.
And I say that let me just diga little bit deeper into that,
because anytime a client comesto me over at
loveenergywellnesscom andthey're looking to make changes,
I always start with acomplimentary consultation for
them.
(04:39):
We always talk about theirchallenges, their health
challenges, their mindsetchallenges.
We talk about their goals andthen we talk about how I can
help.
However, the one question thatI always ask before we get
started is what are weoptimizing for?
Because if we're optimizing forbody transformation, if we're
optimizing for bodytransformation, if we're
(05:00):
optimizing for bodybuilding, ifwe're optimizing for weight loss
, if we're optimizing forthyroid dysfunction, if we're
optimizing for gut health, ifwe're optimizing for energy and
performance, if we're optimizingfor brain fog, if we're
optimizing for longevity, thoseare all completely different
strategies, completely differentconversations that we're having
(05:21):
there.
So when it comes to optimizingfor longevity and anti-aging,
many people unknowingly hold onto a fixed mindset.
Now, they can do that for anyof those topics, but this belief
system often sounds like well, aging just happens and there's
nothing that I can do about it.
And you know sometimes thatcomes from their primary care
(05:42):
physician and you know nothingagainst primary cares or nurse
practitioners or medical doctors.
I believe everybody should haveone and everybody should, um,
have a good one at that.
But sometimes doctors aredismissive and they say you know
, aging just happens and there'snothing you can do about it.
And then the person adopts thatas a belief system.
And we talked a little bitabout that in our most recent
(06:06):
from the heart newsletter thatwe put out.
That comes out on Sunday so itjust came out last Sunday and we
talked a little bit about that, that issue with primary cares,
and if you're on our email list, you know exactly what I'm
talking about.
Or they might say my geneticsdetermine my health.
Well, that's not entirely true, because you had the same genes
(06:29):
10 or 15 years ago but youdidn't have the same problem.
So what changed?
Your genetics didn't, didn'tchange.
You have the same genes.
So your genetics, you know theydon't necessarily determine
your health.
It's the regulation, theupregulation or the
downregulation, the epigenetics, the above genetics, that
changes your outcome.
(06:51):
So that comes to lifestyle, itcomes to environment.
I'm not going to go too deepinto that right now.
Or I hear a lot that you knowit's too late for me to make a
difference, like why bother now?
It's never too late.
It is never too late to turnyour health around.
I've had clients come to me intheir 70s and make profound
differences from discovering theunderlying root causes and
(07:15):
imbalances.
And yes, you know later in lifethat you start.
Sometimes there's more work tobe done because there's things
that have been, you know, toxicities that have been
brought onto the body over theyears.
Like it's much easier totransform somebody's health I
shouldn't say much easier whenthey're in their 20s than when
they're in their 70s, becauseyou know there's been less
(07:36):
oxidative stress, there's beenless cellular damage, so that
all makes a huge difference.
But it's never too late foranybody to make a difference in
their health.
And so these thoughts createinvisible barriers that prevent
progress and lock you into acycle of decline.
But here's the truth a growthmindset transforms possibilities
(07:56):
into realities.
Hit that, hit that rewindbutton.
You'll listen to that again.
I'll say it again a growthmindset transforms possibilities
into realities.
So let's talk a little bit abouthow a growth mindset empowers
you to break through boundariesand optimize your health for
longevity.
So a growth mindset says mychoices can positively influence
(08:20):
my biology and my aging process.
That's a true statement.
You can also say science andintegrative health strategies
give me the tools to change thetrajectory of my health Also a
true growth mindset statement.
Or, it's never too late to makea meaningful impact on my
(08:42):
well-being that is also a growthmindset statement.
So this mindset isn't justabout thinking positively, it's
about taking action.
And more so, it's aboutaligning your habits with the
latest science on anti-aging andhigh performance health.
And that's what we're bringingyou here in the Breaking
(09:02):
Boundaries podcast.
That's what we bring in ourOptimize program over at Love
Energy Wellness.
So let's talk about takingaction and I want to give you
some growth mindset strategies.
So number one we're gonnareframe aging as an opportunity.
Aging doesn't have to meandecline.
It can mean growth, it can meanevolution, it can mean
(09:24):
optimization, it can meansuccess later in life.
Research shows that when youview aging as a process you can
influence your you're morelikely to adopt healthy behavior
when you look at aging as aprocess that you can influence.
(09:45):
So next is set growth orientedgoals and ask yourself how do I
want to feel at age 70, 80, 90,100 years old?
Use that vision to createactionable goals like improving
(10:07):
mobility, enhancing cognitivefunction or reducing your
biological age.
So next number three leveragetools for growth.
So next number three leveragetools for growth.
Tools like the MyDNAge lab testhelp you to measure progress
(10:27):
and understand how your mindsetand habits are impacting your
biological age, metabolic healthand longevity as well.
So tests like APOE or MTHFR I'mgonna explain in a moment just
exactly what those mean butthese are analysis that provide
deeper insights into how tooptimize for the best outcomes.
(10:53):
And then, number four surroundyourself with possibility.
Connect with others who arecommitted to high performance
longevity.
When you surround yourself withpossibility, connect with
others who are committed to highperformance longevity.
When you surround yourself withpeople who believe in
optimization and growth, itreinforces your own belief
system.
And it brings me back to thestatement that I think maybe Jim
Rohn, who is kind of known asthe godfather of personal
(11:15):
development.
I think it was him that coinedthe phrase that you are the
average of the five people thatyou spend the most time with.
So surround yourself withpossibility.
So let's go back for a secondwhy APOE, a-p-o-e and M-T-H-F-R
matter for longevity.
One of the most powerful toolswe use to help you shift towards
(11:38):
a growth mindset is data, specifically the insights we get
from functional health testingand DNA testing, epigenetic
testing.
So we use a lab test in ourOptimize program.
It's called MyDNAge lab testand it doesn't just measure your
biological age age, which is agreat marker to track the
(12:00):
progress that you're actuallymaking.
It compares your biological agewith your chronological age and
we can literally get people toage backwards.
But but that's not all.
There's more.
This test.
It also evaluates criticalgenetic markers like apo, e and
mth, and this is why we use itand here's why these markers
(12:21):
matter for longevity.
So ApoE is short forapolipoprotein E, and this gene
is directly linked to your riskfor cardiovascular disease and
neurodegenerative conditionslike Alzheimer's disease and
(12:42):
neurodegenerative conditionslike Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
as well.
So understanding your ApoEstatus allows us to tailor a
plan to optimize not only yourbrain but your heart health as
well, proactively.
Very, very important marker tounderstand.
And the MTHFRfr?
You'll understand in a momentwhy we call it mthfr.
It stands for methylenetetrahydro tetrahydrofolate
(13:07):
reductase, so methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase.
That's why we say mthfr uh,it's just much easier.
So this gene affects how yourbody processes and uses folate
and B vitamins, which arecrucial for methylation.
Now why is that important?
Methylation is a process thatsupports detoxification.
(13:28):
That's right.
We got to make sure we'regetting the junk out of the body
.
So detoxification is importantand if we have a mthfr variant,
that tells us that we need totake these extra steps because
the body is not methylatingproperly.
It also is a good indicator forcellular repair.
So we want the cells to be ableto go through their apoptosis
(13:54):
process programmed cellulardeath.
We also want them to be able toregenerate as well.
And the healthy cells?
We want them to be able torepair themselves.
So these are all processes forhealthy aging, and if you have
MTHFR variants, then targetednutrition and supplementation
(14:14):
can make a dramatic differencein how your body functions.
By understanding these geneticfactors, we can take actionable
steps to optimize your healthand your longevity.
This is a perfect example ofhow shifting to a growth mindset
empowers you to use the data tomake informed, proactive
choices.
So growth in action.
(14:37):
What is next for you?
As you may be reflecting onyour current mindset, ask
yourself these two questions amI approaching my health with a
fixed mindset or a growthmindset?
